I have always thought this had a different sound to their earlier albums. And the Neil Finn Riffs tend to start coming more to the forefront. Definitely the proto Crowded House sound.
In my view, this opening track to Split Enz’s final album clearly shows the band is Neil’s now. Alas, I suppose to get away further from Tim’s shadow, Neil had to end it and start from scratch the Mullanes (which had a guitar-oriented sound) n/k/a Crowded House.
That's how I'm doing it. I guess the first 5 tracks were originally planned as an EP but the label said no. It's cool to listen to the song Recurring Dream from Crowded House because that's the gap from this to Crowded House. That song was recorded before their first album. I've been on a Neil Finn kick the last few weeks so I've been doing some deep diving.
a little bit more of electric guitar punch through the entire tune wouldn't hurt, CH did this one better live if you ask me! Still a good tune though...

Brilliant album. I went to their last 3 live concerts in Sydney when they first broke up.
Fantastic music and much regrettably ignored at the time.
Classic Nigel bassline in this one. Love it.
Thankyou for posting this. I don't know why this album flew under the radar - I reckon it's one of their best, if not THE best.

I’m starting to listen to this as a proto-Crowded House album instead of the death throes of Split Enz, and it sounds much better now!

Awesome tune.
