Good review mate. I picked these up with lidl app for £2.29 yesterday.. also got Monsooned Malabar Indian beans on clearance from Waitrose for £3 ..reduced from £6 ..so i look forward to trying both of them
Hi, thanks for the review, I had this one bought for me as a gift and I have to say i found it far nicer than a Lavazza one I had just used. I make my coffee in a Moka pot . Thanks again for all your reviews.
I'm not the biggest Lavazza coffee fan so I would agree with you especially with the price difference... I've been saying for years I need to get a moka pot...its probably the only brewing method I haven't tried.
Lavazza make many different coffees and I've never found one I've liked - in fact, I've hated them all. Illy are better and their illy Intenso Bold Roast Coffee is lovely (proper Italian)
Hi DMC - I just thought id drop you a little suggestion... If youre feeling a little adventurous I have discovered that TK Max sells a lot of random coffee beans and pre-ground coffees. I dont think anyone knows this as I have seem many many bags discounted to £3-4 per 227g or 500g at my local. They'll also have bags from Bialetti (the moka pot maker) and a load of other random brands as well. You'll normally find them in the homewares department near all the cups, kettles and other such things. The packaging on them can be really really random and shouty which can be rather off putting if you've never tried any of them before but they are there. Id pick up some of them myself to try but im currently sitting on 3kg's worth of lavazza that i bought on sale.
I was about to suggest exactly this too. My local TK Maxx has a great range of coffee beans and pods too. Not sure how fresh they are but I've not had a bad experience yet.
@@meme4one thats another thing that worries me as well. I see so many discounted bags of coffee at my local TK Maxx and I have no idea how long they've been there.
I have reviewed a few coffees from tk-maxx but they have always been really poor quality which disappointed me no end so I stopped looking there.. but thanks for the tip I'll take another look as it's been a while since I went in there to check on the coffees and there is a tk-maxx 10 mins away from me.
Never seen these either - only the Columbian aswell which is £2.79. Will keep an eye out to give a try...can't beat Aldi House beans for the price though
Thanks for the price check...the Aldi House blend beans are still my go to but Asda have a great deal on Taylor's of Harrogate's Italian blend beans, an 800g bag for £6.75 seems like a steal to me and have been stocking up in case it's some sort of pricing error haha.
Bought yesterday [10 May 2024] for 2.69 in Lidl. Date was Sept 2025 so for supermarket beans pretty fresh. Beans as you described; will be oily as its a strong roast. Brewed a 1:20 freshly ground French press [16g/320ml H2O] as per James Hoffman protocol [see his youtube site]. Initial impressions: Rich, sweet followed by bitter finish, slight smoky, but didn't get chocolate. Brewed freshly ground Espresso 16g in, 32g out, 28 secs on Delonghi Stilosa machine with IBS competition unpressurized basket. Initial impressions as above but this time I got the initial chocolate and less bitter. Being so fresh I was surprised not to get much crema; perhaps they degass it as part of the production process, but this is not the 'be all and and all' as it only impacts the mouth feel rather than the flavour. Better as an Espresso than French press. Overall, OK for the price but feel that there are better i.e. Waitrose Italian style [£2.50-£3 for 227g], or my current favourite Lofbergs Single Estate Brasilian in a Purple/Yellow bag [£11-£12 for 1kg]. I think the latter give the best 'Bang for the buck', and is suitable for all protocols [vary grind], and both black and milky drinks.
I haven't seen this one around my local Lidls (they're also usually mostly the Colombian ones), but I am currently working my way through a 1.2kg bag of coffee beans I got from Lidl for £6.25 in the famous Middle of Lidl (in a little clearance crate). I'm quite enjoying it, the beans look a bit uneven but it plays nicely with my usual cafetiere black coffee, and with milk for those I make it for.
They maybe don't sell them elsewhere in the UK, but in stores at least that are local to me in Northern Ireland we can get slumberjack both in ground (coarse) and beans, as well as Bravo Tango, same again albeit fine espresso grind. Both seem to be locally produced coffee's, they come out quite good taste wise, the Bravo Tango especially, so much so I realised its actually what is supplied to a neat little italian restaurant and cafe (made for a great cappucino) and that is what prompted me to go buy some grinds the next time lidl had it on offer. Just using the grinds in a moka pot for now, hardly optimal but despite the gospel of best practice, i've been able to master making imperfect grind sizes work and routinely get good enough brews from it.

I enjoyed the Waitrose Monsooned Malabar...this one too especially if you like a dark roast.
I've tried them all in lidl and this one is certainly the best , never goes too bitter with a pleasent chocolate slight fudgey/nutty taste, passable

Can the ground ones be used in French press or only the machine?
The ground coffees in Lidl are mostly for french press as they are too coarse for espresso machine.
@@dmcerrrmmmm You can regrind in one of those blade grinders but it's trial and error. A connoisseur would have me hung for that comment 😜

I'd like to know what gives lidl its signature plastic flavour. Are they coating them all in something? Poor quality bags?

They mostly look like artisan or small batch coffees and I was very disappointed with the ones I tried but I'll take another look...thanks.

Thanks for reposting that review...sorry you lost it the first time that was some good work.

Glad you like it... I'm reluctant to buy large bags just on case they are not to my taste.

Glad you get good results... hopefully they'll show up at a Lidl by me.
Why has the comment/review that I posted yesterday been removed?
Sorry bout that but I can't find any previous comment by you in my notifications.
