I would just like to say I appreciate the fact you use different settings and places. It's more time consuming and needs more editing. I appreciate your efforts!
Unpaste is now available in the US. They now make a fluoride version. They are tabs, but at least it's packaged in a cornstarch bag and has fluoride. You probably have to buy them online, though.
Bite toothpaste now has a “fluoride” option. It’s NHAP and it acts like fluoride, but it’s a non-toxic alternative. Edit: I just remembered you don’t like toothpaste bits! Sorry!!!
Glad to hear that there’s a nontoxic alternative to fluoride! Fluoride is actually controversial and has been banned in some countries. Though it can provide some good, it can also be toxic! Thank you so much for letting us know!
A glowing angel of sustainability!👼🌎 Thank you for the info on secondhand tech. I always hear you say you get things second hand but had no idea where to turn. Now I do... and I can finally get rid of some of my older tech that is in good condition but I just don't use anymore. ❤
There is a brand called unpaste, which makes both non-fluoride and fluoride toothpaste tablets. I have never tried them, but I've heard some really good things about them!
So glad you talked about sunscreen. I used to work in dermatology and all the patients with skin cancer never wore a drop of it. There's so much waste involved with skin cancer removal!
Hey, Shelbi! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I just have to say- I love your content! I am learning so much from you and your videos, and it brings so much joy to my life! I have also been sharing the things that I learn with friends and helping to guide them to more eco-friendly, sustainable, and/or zero waste options. Thank you for what you do and I cannot wait to learn more from you!
I use my shampoo bar, conditioner bar, reusable dishes / to-go ware, tote bags for groceries/shopping, shipping mailers or plastic bags from reduced price produce for trash bags (essentially anything mixed material or non recyclable that can hold trash), old eyeshadow palettes I am using up before buying anything new, my compost bin, and so many more items! I am not perfect and have a long way to go but all of these sustainable swaps contribute to more contentment and peace in my life through the mindfulness aspect of it.
If you're looking for a fluorite toothpaste, look into the brand Ben & Anna. They come in glass jars and have plenty of flavours to choose from, with or without fluorite 🥰
I've been waiting for the update on those pots and pans! Glad to hear that they've held up, especially after seeing so many bad reviews. Logically, I know that people are more likely to leave reviews on a site when they're either really happy or really disappointed with something, so it's hard to sift through. I totally agree with cast iron being a Lifestyle Choice lol.
yes please part two! I'm finally at the point of using up all the unsustainable things in my life and learning where to purchase new things so I'm loving this!
For some reason, this video made so much more sense than other "swaps" videos from you and others. I think presenting it as you went about your day helped! This was great and I could see myself making those switches so much more--and it's even better that they are every day items, not something I'd only use every once in a while. Please make this a series!!!! I really want a rain barrel for my collection of ~50 plants, but living in Minnesota, I'd have to make sure it's empty before winter!
I really liked this video, as a reminder of all the swaps I've made that I unconsciously use now. Bamboo toothbrush, solid soap/shampoo/conditioner, compostable dish scrubber, refillable dish soap etc. Sometimes it feels like you're not doing enough, I still struggle with plastic free veg shopping, but it's helpful and encouraging to have a reminder of how far you've come. Cheers for the inspo!
I'm an environmental educator at a recycling and waste facility, so I preach why recycling is important (and buying things made out recycled materials is important) everyday. So thank you for also spreading that message on your platform!! We get questions on why all recyclables go into landfills waaaaay too often.
i use david’s toothpaste and i love it so much!!!!!❤️ and my dad put installed a rain barrel for our garden last year. we use it all the time and we love it!! stay safe😘
Video idea possibly... I am a single mom with a very low income. Ive always tried to be more sustainable but I'm really trying to step up my game. But alot of the things you recommend are very high priced. I understand this can be pricey but worth it long term. But some things are hard for me like $30 for a bottle of lotion and $22 for a small bottle of sunscreen. It would be so amazing if you could do a video for cheaper options. I try to research as much as I can on my own. But I do get so many of my advise from you!!! Thank you. One other thing is that I just moved to a city and live in an apartment and they do not have recycling. I have found drop off locations but from what I can see they don't take boxes with wax which are almost all food boxes( I have a huge pile of them I dont know what to do with☺) I just really struggle with what can and cannot be recycled. I have googled this time and time again and I just can't get clear on it. Any help would be great!! Thank you for being you!!
I am on the look for a toothpaste with fluoride but plastic-free! Please keep us posted, Shelby! Your videos bring me back in alignment with my goals which are to be more respectful to Mother Earth. Thank you for reminding me always, after so much exhaustion with the way the world is, that the world needs all the good we can do! Much love to you, for all you do always! Finding a LGBTQIA+ friendly and inclusive sustainable channel is so dear to my heart as a struggling gay pagan little weirdo. I don't have any friends who care about causes - so thank you for always bringing me back to center. I love your passion! so does my cat who is trying to type on the laptop right now and say hey!
I really loved this. I feel like I'm some cases it's hard to imagine how to work in using more sustainable things instead of what we're used to. It's helpful to see what you actually use consistently.
I never realized I’ve been using secondhand phones for the past 3 years. I always get my moms old phone when she gets a new one, I’m actually about to get her phone in a few weeks
@@eilis5341 she doesn’t buy new phones every year I would say she gets a new one like every 2-3 years. I messed up the time I meant to say for the past 4 years. I’ve tried to talk to her about buying new ones and she thinks because a phone is secondhand it won’t work properly
A lot of people don't know that you can re-season ceramic pans if things start sticking to them. It's the same basic process as re-seasoning cast iron -- coat the cooking surface with a very thin layer of oil, heat it on the stove to cure the oil, then let it cool. I see so many people complain about ceramic losing it's non-stick surface after awhile.
Really?? Had no idea! I've had a Green Pan wok and a Tefal ceramic pan and they both lost their non-stick properties after a while. Actually, the Green Pan was never truly non-stick, you still had to use oil in it. The Tefal one was, though, which makes me think it was actually coated with something? I'll try to recondition my Tefal pan, although I'm afraid it's too far gone, I've scrubbed it too much because it kept getting food stuck :D The Green wok is long gone, it also miraculously chipped although I've never dropped it or used metal utensils in it, and I was afraid to use it after that. I didn't know what was the white material underneath.
I am using a shampoo that comes in a stick, in a cardboard box; at first the sensation in my hair was different, but we're getting used to it (I mean, my hair and I). I'm happy to have made this change and looking for many more.
You’ve really inspired me to be more cautious and careful about what I’m buying, how I’m recycling products and how I can reuse things once they’re done! I’ve just invested in some period underwear and I’m excited to see what 2021 brings! Can’t wait to see more of your videos, love from Ireland ☺️
I love green pans! I did see on a video by the brand that they do not recommend putting the pans in the dishwasher. Most negative reviews say they turned sticky over time, but my bet is that is due to the dishwasher. I've had mine for almost 2 years an only hand wash and no issues here!
I started using David’s toothpaste because of you and I’m OBSESSED WITH IT. “Normal” toothpaste tastes so weird to me now. I also got my boyfriend that wireless charging pad and we use it all the time in our living room!
Thank you!!! I'm def gonna check out trade more I still have the original SE 😂 works very well now but I am so happy for a secondhand tech recommendation
I’d love to see how you sustainably grocery shop during COVID! I’ve tried pickup and they won’t not basically triple wrap stuff in plastic. Also, the store I shop bulk at now portions the bulk items in plastic bags. Also, my city back tracked on the plastic bag ban they had just adopted, because of COVID. COVID seems to have been a huge hit not only obviously to humanity but also the the environment. I’d love to know your thoughts!
I would love to try pela but I've been able to find a second hand case for my phone whenever i end up getting a "new" phone and i drop my phones constantly so it's nice to have something more heavy duty even if it is plastic
I've had a Pela case for ages now. I dropped my phone down the stairs once accidentally (I'm not even joking) and my phone has never broken. I haven't even put a screen protector on it. I highly recommend Pela. Dropping shouldn't be a worry when purchasing from them.
I got a pela phone case per shelbi's recommendation for not only me but also my husband and they're awesome! We've been using them for over a year now and we drop our phones all the time yet they are still good as new! Highly recommend 👍
Btw you can also get the most recent phones second hand if you are into that! I usually use Rebuy (I live in germany) where you can just set an alarm for whichever item/version you want and they'll send you an e-mail as soon as it's available (sooo helpful for buying second hand tech)
You can attach another rain barrel to the one you have now and then you won't run out of water near as fast! Also in school for environmental science and love your videos over here :)
I am a uni/college student and so many of your tips help me save the planet and save my bank account. Just about to subscribe to who gives a crap and I adore your plant collection! Thanks for being so amazing
THANK YOU for talking about wanting tube toothpaste with fluoride!!!!! I’m completely with you! I recently bought Unpaste toothpaste tabs with fluoride from Well Earth Goods (but if I remember correctly, you’re not a fan of the tabs). Looks like others have mentioned Unpaste as well, so I’d recommend others look into this option, and I think I like them better than Bite! (Granted, it’s been a few years since I tried Bite since I decided to not support them until they came out with a fluoride option)
I’m soooo glad you mentioned Trademore! I need a new (used) phone and am planning on purchasing one with my tax return. Gazelle and Amazon refurbished make me nervous. Like you said, “shouldn’t they all be great condition?!” Lol
I love the reusable notebooks! I need things on paper for school because that’s how I understand things best. I wish the refills weren’t in a thin plastic wrapping though :(
Love to see more love for Disc Bound planners! There are tons available - even at Walmart! Happy Planner, Levinger, TUL, ARC.... there are tons and tons, and only getting more popular. They're great
What if you made a little shade stand for your water barrel during the days it isn't raining? Keeping it cooler could help keep less water from evaporating.

So I’ve done planners like that for a while but do you use stickers and if so, are those eco-friendly and if not, what are some sustainable replacements for them?
phonewise I can highly recommend the FAIRPHONE. it's as ethically sourced as possible, the gold is second hand for example and its MODULAR, meaning if your camera chip breaks or you want a better camera, you open the phone and switch components for a few bucks!!! it's how tech was intended, right? switch, mix and match. just my 2 cents, love you!
hi shelbi! i have a question about the plaine lotion (& about refillable products in general) since you said you send it back to the company for them to refill it once you run out, i was curious as to what you do/use during the time that the bottle is being returned and refilled? i know the mail can sometimes take a while to get things sent to and from a company and for refillable products like shampoo or lotion i couldnt imagine going a week (or more) without them while i wait to get the refill back
I discovered you about 2 months ago and I have literally watched all of your videos! I always talk about you 🤣 I'll be like "yeah, Shelbi was talking about an alternative for that" probably having people think that we actually know each other lmaooooo
I really love this kind of video. Please make more of them! Do you recommend any place that we can buy second-hand computers/laptops? The one you mentioned only sells phones. Thanks so much! -Erica
Question: how sustainable is cast iron? I’ve had cast iron pans and enameled cast iron pots/Dutch ovens for a while now and they’re all I use. I’ve heard that they can last 100+ years if you care for them well. Not looking to get new cookware unless these break, but just curious what their carbon footprint is like?
there is a toothpaste tabs and paste brand called Ben and Anna (Ben & Anna?) here in europe that has a fluoride option as far as im aware! though, that does make it harder for you over on the other side of the water haha
Maybe you could check out Tom’s of Maine for fluoride toothpaste! They have a totally recyclable tube now, and they’re a certified B Corp and do a lot of donating to sustainability projects
I don’t know how you feel about toothpaste tablets, but I found the brand UnPaste through mightynest and they offer a fluoride version! They sell the tablets separate in a paper packet and you can store them in a glass jar. They seem to be much more affordable cost/use than some of the other brands out there.
Hi, haven't tried them yet but I just came across non plastic beach toothpaste tabs. It's a tab, but they have fluoride. I'm excited to see that other people have added some in the comments. I need a new toothpaste and I'm currently shopping.
Okay I have a dumb question that you may have addressed buuuuut how can you determine if a compostable material is suitable for home compost vs only suitable for commercial compost?
I'm watching this from my cracked phone so I really need to check out TradeMore! Do you have to talk to your phone provider to make sure you don't mess up your phone plan before buying secondhand?
i hope your phone cases sell well. i have iphone 8 plus too, and would love for you to be able to expand the range. ps i really want to try plaine lotion, i can’t stand lotion bars
I would just like to say I appreciate the fact you use different settings and places. It's more time consuming and needs more editing. I appreciate your efforts!
I agree, this video was both educatively entertaining and pleasing cinematography-wise

You probably have to buy them online, though.
You can get these through The Good FIll or Marley's Monsters. I would prefer a paste as well though
I loved this because its not just the "hyped up" eco stuff but things that most people would use daily

I LOVE the way you film. Very cool and different to everyone else. ☺️🧡
not sure how i missed this video but i loved it
Thanks for all of your wonderful ideas!!! I have one question, aren’t you afraid of your phone battery durability long term as it’s second hand??
No, I've only ever purchased second hand phones and have never had an issue. And if I ever did, I would just have the battery replaced.
@@Shelbizleee thanks for your answer!!
Do you prefer them to stainless steel pots and pans
Question: how sustainable is cast iron? I’ve had cast iron pans and enameled cast iron pots/Dutch ovens for a while now and they’re all I use. I’ve heard that they can last 100+ years if you care for them well. Not looking to get new cookware unless these break, but just curious what their carbon footprint is like?
there is a toothpaste tabs and paste brand called Ben and Anna (Ben & Anna?) here in europe that has a fluoride option as far as im aware! though, that does make it harder for you over on the other side of the water haha
Thank you for educating Shelbie!
Maybe you could check out Tom’s of Maine for fluoride toothpaste! They have a totally recyclable tube now, and they’re a certified B Corp and do a lot of donating to sustainability projects
Tom's is owned by colgate
@@mistycrocker8793 ugh seriously? That’s annoying. I didn’t look that far into it yet, I’m currently using something else.
I don’t know how you feel about toothpaste tablets, but I found the brand UnPaste through mightynest and they offer a fluoride version! They sell the tablets separate in a paper packet and you can store them in a glass jar. They seem to be much more affordable cost/use than some of the other brands out there.
Thanks for this video!! Love what you do and your channel
everything about your channel is helpful and interesting et cetera !!
and yes swayze unnatural vegan is fabulous you guys should collab on a video
Hi, haven't tried them yet but I just came across non plastic beach toothpaste tabs. It's a tab, but they have fluoride. I'm excited to see that other people have added some in the comments. I need a new toothpaste and I'm currently shopping.
Okay I have a dumb question that you may have addressed buuuuut how can you determine if a compostable material is suitable for home compost vs only suitable for commercial compost?
I freakin love you dude. This was such a chill video thanks for sharing!
what do you suggest I use for wall shelves?
I just came across your channel and I absolutely love your channel!!
I'm watching this from my cracked phone so I really need to check out TradeMore!
Do you have to talk to your phone provider to make sure you don't mess up your phone plan before buying secondhand?
I’ve realized I’m slowly becoming Shelby 😂
Bite has a fluoride alternative and I really like them
i hope your phone cases sell well. i have iphone 8 plus too, and would love for you to be able to expand the range.
ps i really want to try plaine lotion, i can’t stand lotion bars

How about a video about sustainable plant care (pest management, repotting etc.)? :)
