I trained at Gabe's gym for a little over two years - this guy is a monster. I came in as a fresh black belt, and maybe once in 2+ years of rolling with him did I threaten an actual submission. Don't feel bad about getting ragrolled by him, he's the real deal.
Braa I love it. The fact that you challenge yourself The fact that you're willing to travel and put yourself out there losing. That's what makes you a black belt. The white belt that never gave up.
I have so much respect for you bro you don’t just show all the times you win you show one of the few times you lose. And that’s the name of the game. Let the best athlete win total respect that you showed how good this guy was, and if he can handle you like that, he’s top of the food chain
So i know him as the ref on WNO, and hes a fantastic ref. Pretty awesome to see him roll and i love this series your doing tyler. U got me hooked watching it all!
Your roll with Kody Steele was incredibly entertaining! Shows how good of a black belt you really are, despite getting your ass handed to you by that first guy
I trained at gabes for 1.5 year, got by bluebelt from him. Don't feel bad at all mate, I am 6'5 200 pounds and he ankle picked me and arm-barr'ed me all day. He had a D1 guy teach there for awhile so the wrestling level there is high. Gabe is the man,
I just recently discovered your videos and I have to say that although I enjoy seeing you test your skills in all these different gyms it’s the witty and often time’s hilarious commentary that keeps me coming back to watch, keep the up the good work and keep those elbows close.😉
Really nice of you to go so easy on Gabriel :D Really though, it messes with you when you go into a roll expecting one thing and quickly realize the person is way way better than you thought. You feel a step or two behind the whole roll.
Nice ankle pic on that blue belt! He was a lot stronger before his leukemia diagnosis but he’s fighting it like a champ and is definitely still a handful. 😅
I respect you and your going with so many. This guy had a quiet look and very calm but….it seemed like absolutely nothing worked. The boss was a true master, no doubt. Just a complete domination and I say that respectfully. The guy was just crazy good.
gym owner had great control looked like fun lol I'm a big chrisbrennan guy, kimura and guilotine as well but when you run into one of those old school position before submission blackbelts they really make you have to go an extra step
I know there are a million different variables on any given day, but Gabriel looked to be the most impressive fighter in your (relative) weight class we've seen you against.
Yeah he was way better than I thought lol. I had no info going into it, but I have a lot of new knowledge on his experience thanks to editing and whatnot.
Yeah dude, I immediately recognized that first guy. Ain't no shame in that! Talk about a back take expert. 😂 And fun roll with Kody Steele dude, that was really good to watch. I'll have to take notes on that crucifix escape he did.
OMG- watched it a second time with audio. flash back when our local world class guy pops into our gym to beat us up like a teen rolling in the 5-7 year old class. On the plus side- he did not knee on belly you into tapping for being gassed.
Great content man. You getting dogged by that guy reminded me of what happened today…I learned a guy who tapped me 2-3 times and dominated the roll is a 3 year black belt. I was thinking he was purple and was messing me up. I was getting discouraged and then I happened upon his FB profile today and whatdayouknow? Haha no wonder he wrecked me
He is one of the main refs for FloGrapplings WNO and other superfights and grappling events. Like Ruotolo vs Galvao! Hes an insanely good ref. Had no idea he was such a talented grappler. And give yourself some credit Tyler youre amazing!
To me a good evening is finishing training after setting up people in my buggy choke traps then go home have a nice shower then have dinner while watching Tyler Spangler get flipped like a tortilla 😂😂 jk Tyler I love your videos man and huge fan of you
So I'm actually the step son of the co-owner of the gym, who is a longtime friend of Gabriel. This is the gym where I earned my blue belt so it warms my heart seeing the gym where I really got started on here.
@@TylerSpangler Now i feel bad for such a shitty comment haha, i was just making fun of your bad pronounce and spelling of "integração", but please, keep the good work! i just love it!!! i am a brazilian shite belt living in the UK, i am learning from you way more than you can imagine

Glad that you can see the journey!

I attended gabe’s gym for awhile, in Austin, Tx.
He’s a small dude but he feels like 300 lbs when he’s on you.
Really awesome dude.
4:22 very funny
I keep watching your videos to learn and laugh at your over voice
Greetings from Iraq
So i know him as the ref on WNO, and hes a fantastic ref. Pretty awesome to see him roll and i love this series your doing tyler. U got me hooked watching it all!
Love hearing you describe the details of the roll. Helps me connect all the missing pieces I wouldn't have while watching(which would be alot lol)
Glad you appreciate the rolling commentary amigo!
When someone is better you learn so much more
Respect for showing that round. Real black belt shit.
That toe hold almost didn’t make the cut, but gotta show all my weaknesses!
Getting tapped out is a good thing. Teaches us where we are content when we shouldn't be, and our shortfalls.
Your roll with Kody Steele was incredibly entertaining! Shows how good of a black belt you really are, despite getting your ass handed to you by that first guy
It is surprising how badly that roll went for me compared to these other guys 😕
The Riley Reid comment was outta pocket, and I love it.
Bruh i am dead ☠️ had to pause the video and everything 🤣
What are you doing step bro!
@@TylerSpangler see, this is why I follow you. That, and the jits.
the fact that Gabriel casually did a rolling back take on you nogi kinda blew my mind.
Gabe is my professor. And yea this is par for the course rolling with him haha. I love it though! He's always teaching us really solid technique.
I'm kind of new to jujitsu.. How good is he compared to say an Eddie Bravo type..
Wow, he cut through you so calmly and what seemed effortlessly, bravo!
In the last clip, the guy was so smooth, I love training with such partners. You know we both can go 100% but choose to keep it playful and creative
Love your humor Tyler! Not taking yourself too seriously is what makes you unique as a bjj youtuber! Keep going!
I see this guy reffing on WNO all the time, cool to get to see him in action.
No fucking way, it's that guy lol? I would have never imagined that guy is animal lol
Off course! It was a very familiar face!

The owner of the gym was at one time a ref for many world competitions that included being the ref while Marcelo Garcia competed.
Sometimes we're the hammer, sometimes the nail. Props for challenging yourself and for your humility.
Great job Tyler ! I know that one has to be rough to share lol but now you know how all your opponents feel.
He was smooth and patient. clearly just a lot of experience here. Awesome video man.

It’s such a pleasure seeing people testing themselves. In my opinion it builds character, authenticity and integrity. All that good stuff.
The roll with Cody steel looked so fluent Like it was really intense but at the same time really Controlled Amazing
ive had the pleasure of training under gabriel in his gym once , he opened the doors for me and everyone was very nice, good to see them doing good 👍
Really nice of you to go so easy on Gabriel :D Really though, it messes with you when you go into a roll expecting one thing and quickly realize the person is way way better than you thought. You feel a step or two behind the whole roll.
You can say that again. I was quite surprised about…. 10 seconds into the round.
I love that youre humble enough to show your weakness.
Gabriel is the guy that referees at Flograppling most of the time right ?
Yes. His place is on Stassney Lane. I go there for open mat sometimes.
Nice ankle pic on that blue belt! He was a lot stronger before his leukemia diagnosis but he’s fighting it like a champ and is definitely still a handful. 😅
Dude this type of content is very nice I literally tap on the video the moment I see a new one,

Isn’t that dude one of the referees for the WNO tournaments???? He looks familiar. What a beast ! Great work to you as well man excellent video
Yes he is

I just realized that’s the ref on Who’s Number 1! I’ve always wondered, “if he’s the ref, he must be really good.”
I’ll be back from the gas station next week to toss your salad, son
