I can't disagree with Buju's comments about modern Afro beats. However, I will say the lack of content and meaningful lyrics is not restricted to Afro beats alone, rather it's a sign of the time we are in. I am sure that if u look around the African continent, you will still find artists who are keeping it real by composing songs of substance but often times, their efforts are overlooked because the taste of this generation is not about contextual substance or something with lyrical strength, it's all about gyrations. Some of these artists actually have content especially those who grew up in poverty and on d Street but d bigger question is what does the global musical audience want...😢
I totally agree with Buju Banton, he said the truth. Afro beats back in the days where manly to correct social consciousness, patriotism, admonish and revolutionary to free Africa. But this era of Afro beats focus on fuckery and vanity.

It seems that many people didn’t fully grasp what Buju was trying to say. First, let’s talk about the slackness and violence that often accompany dancehall, hip hop, and other genres-not just dancehall music. Yes, I understand that our Melanated people are harming each other at an alarming rate, and this has to stop. To slow down this process, artists need to start changing their messages and taking control of their own agendas because sometimes they don’t have full control over their content. I also understand that artists often need to build an audience before they can introduce more positive messages that people will actually listen to. We’ve seen this transformation firsthand with legends like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and others who spoke up, not just in the islands but in Mama Africa as well. While a few artists across different genres have been singing about the struggles of Melanated people and our fight for freedom, this has inspired others to follow that path. Buju Banton was saying that now, with Afrobeat gaining so much attention, it’s the perfect time to focus on the freedom of Africa and its people. While some artists are already doing this, more need to join in. Buju was simply calling for more artists to use their platforms to address these critical issues.
They just wanna dance well let them keep on dancing and don’t watch their back until the evil white men them snuck up on them and start slavery again don’t get off guard they can dance but also be conscious. That’s what Buju is really saying. But I guess some people who aren’t conscious will never get it until it’s too late smh.❤️🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲😊
So if Afrobeats is “crap” when why are African, Caribbean, and American artists collaborating? So the collaborations shouldn’t happen? Why do we have to tear each other down about this?
You clearly don’t understand smh…. Buju is saying that afrobeats music is not a genre to help black people fight the oppression the songs they’re making have no message towards the governments and world leaders. They only making music to party while people are suffering
@@clipmotiontv No I do smh...Just as there are Afrobeats songs for partying there are Afrobeats songs that have a message and that address local issues. They are often sung in continental African languages which is why Buju is probably not aware of them. Several other RUclips commentators have explained what they are. Buju is overgeneralizing. Not to say that there shouldn't be more music to fight oppression, but you can say that for other contemporary Black genres as well. Currently lots of musical content is too focused on sex and drugs... don't single out Afrobeats
@charlmoncharlemagne5209 He made a valid point, but it came across as pure jealousy because of how he said it. He insulted the music by calling it Fu-kry and the artists by calling them mother fu-kers. MY BIG QUESTION IS, WHAT HAS THE BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD ACCORDING TO JAMAICANS DONE FOR THE MINDSET OF ITS PEOPLE? JAMAICA HAS NOW BECOME a SLAUGHTER HOUSE. THE MUSIC IS NOT HELPING JAMAICA. STOP ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO FOCUS ON THAT TYPE OF MUSIC ALONE. ALLOW THEM TO CONTINUE DOING WHAT IS WORKING FOR THEM.
I'm Nigerian, but I call everyone my brother, where ever you come from Jamaica, St Lucia, all over Africa. I totally agree to what Buju, I'm sure a lot of Africans agree with that. But the question I ask is, why are we not coming together to make good music? What if buju or any artists from the Caribbean come together with burna or whatever artists from anywhere in Africa work together to bring something powerful? I just think we need to put out differences aside and bring love and peace ✌️ as the great Bob marley and so many more wonderful legends once preached. I come in peace. Bless 🙌🏿

I understand both sides but at then end of the day Afrobeats is more of a jump up, happy vibes type of music that people rather hear than being sad and depress, its more of a melody type of music. They can still sing about life and struggles but not a lot of people want to hear that in the world. In any genre of music singing about that nowadays doesn't sell. So I guess you just got to go with the flow and when the flow changes you change with it too. If Afrobeats was just about struggles, then I don't think it would have been so successful because it isn't relating to many people, just certain people. Africans are just showing the happy side of them and it's making them money globally, so you can't knock that, you have to be happy for them. As black people worldwide, our lives are full of struggles, but when we have other people listening to our stuff, appreciate it and stop putting each other down.

As of now Afrobeat has taken over the world and thats what the whole world want to listen to right now nothing else. And this new commercial AFROBEAT AFRICAN new generation has taking it to the world, is just like Jamaican DANCEHALL fall of slackness which the Jamaican ladies do dance on it almost necked, on the stage, along the streets, in a party, in the night clubs, on live concert or in a sound system with their known and unknown ARTISTS.they disrespecting their ladies while dancing also lyrically and what kind of message are they sending to their youths to liberate their mind and soul from their political problem and national poverty going on in Jamaican society, gun and drugs trafficking, gang cartels, rappe, killings among their selves ETC. Buju said he went to AFRICA 1991 that was almost 40 years a go and he said he stayed for 3 weeks is that enough for BUJU to really discover all AFRICAN CONTENT and to estimate what is really going on in Africa,,,that's not enough to know African CULTURE, NO!!!!! is not enough.. then it become so easy for Buju to jump into conclusions with unnecessary critics,, where by buju, spend 15 years in jail for drug trafficking and he was just coming out of it, is just like they say, do what I say but don't do what do, or do what I do but don't do what I said???? Africa is massive is not like small pieces of island like Jamaica Africa is huge to talk about Africa Buju you most know Africa don't talk for your personal gains, cheap criticisms can't help to promote reggae right now, we all know that, as Afrobeat is leading, Buju all you gat do is to support them.... commercial reggae DANCEHALL is lyrically full of slackness just like commercial AFROBEAT...but the commercial reggae dancehall is hardcore, slackness but commercial AFROBEAT is more melodic soft love songs.

Please dont believe nobody is beating Down afro beat it's a wonderful music n we jamaicans all love it because we are one but the fact is we as Africans need to do more powerful conscious music that can heal d soul n mind of a suffering brother n people are suffering all over d world I don't want nobody get it wrong about wat buju is saying it's all about black people struggles in Africa n across the world.
We need more songs like Melanin, and Stand Strong from Afrobeats fr. Nothing wrong with this criticism.
When he called them mother fu-kers and rubbished their music by calling it Fu-kry. He disrespected big time. It's not what you say, but how you say it. He could have said the same thing differently, but he chose to be selfish, bitter, envious, venomous, and ignorant. HE IS COMPLETELY FORGETTING THAT HIS MUSIC IS DOING NOTHING FOR THE JAMAICA. THE MURDER RATE IS GETTING HIGHER AND HIGHER. WHERE IS THE LOVE.
THE FUNERAL DIRECTORS ARE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.
I am wondering if Buju knows what West Africa have done for Jamaica , when The British and Scottish had them enslaved ? What does he have to say about dancehall music that describe every part of women bodies ? Is He jealous about the fact that African music is taking its place on the world stage? Those are my questions to Mr. Banton and I have every list of his compact discs he have been making since the 90ish. I just have to teh him si grow up and Big up . Onelove and OneBlessing

U should. B asking. What. Does. The global continent. NeEED

I totally agree with Buju Banton, he said the truth. Afro beats back in the days where manly to correct social consciousness, patriotism, admonish and revolutionary to free Africa. But this era of Afro beats focus on fuckery and vanity.
i totally disagree with you and Buju... in all music there are times its not just about words and lyrics... it about the tune, the rhythm and the vibes and energy the song or music brings at the time... Burna Boy has some very mind stimulating and historical songs that makes you think about Black history and Slavery... it was through on of his songs i learnt about (Uniliver)

@@SpiritualVibesGM you miss the point and talking from limited knowledge. Afro beats of today lacks the depth and consciousness of their roots. Afro beats of years before you were born was based on inspiration, stories, advice etc while you dance along.
A good example is the trending song of Mike Ejeagha’s Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo. Research the songs of Nigerian musicians of his era, Fela, Oriental Brothers, Sunny Okosun, Majek Fashek, Rasky Mono etc.

Legend said they true Afro beat is all of full of hype
They are so many acrobat with powerful message. For example listen to 2face, sunny najii and so many of them
It seems that many people didn’t fully grasp what Buju was trying to say.
Buju banton raised a valid point and that is that!
He NEEEED 👀 ti speak on VIBEZ CARTEL 👀

When has Buju started singing uplifting songs. Buju, don't be jealous, ok. Do you remember the song you removed from your catalogue?
Why ?

They just wanna dance well let them keep on dancing and don’t watch their back until the evil white men them snuck up on them and start slavery again don’t get off guard they can dance but also be conscious.
You clearly miss his point.
@@clipmotiontvmusic is not about politics, music is about love good vibe
I'm an African but what Banton said true.
I know this went over many heads but he made a valid point
Bless 🙌🏿

@coleenlyons1630 are you talking about Lucky Dube, who was gunned down in front of his children?.
His life came to a sad end when his music became too political.
@@hv7894 Yes I'm talking about Lucky Dube, he was for equal rights and justice like Tosh and was kill in the same way. If one does not stand for something he will fall for anything. RIP LuckyDube and PeterTosh.
If it’s not derogatory it’s by contrast uplifting!

Africans learn to defend your self stop following everywhere no matter what so ever. Don't allow who so ever it might be to walk on your foot. Africans have other kinds of afrobeat,, traditional, national, and international , in Africa is not only commercial afrobeat we have we have a lot's of cultural music,, more than every other country on this planet we have musics for different occasions in African continent. but Jamaica has only reggae music then in reggae music you fined dancehall, ska ,rock steady even one drop, that's all and this is all reggae music as one, but African continent gat more and more deep multy cultural music, SO YOU AS A TRUE BORN AFRICAN YOU CAN'T BE SUPPORTING SUCH LAZY CRITIC AS IF IS AFROBEAT THE ONLY MUSIC IN AFRICA THAT IS UPLIFTMENT,,,,learn to defend and protect your own no matter the time, no matter where you come from or you are staying as a black person you are an African.
