    It’s a shame they spent so much making the client and learning section better than made so many steps back by not licensing tracks people actually want to play. For the vast majority of players, I think they’ll be happier with Rocksmith 2014

      @AnthonyGarlanger I feared that would be the case. I've played Rocksmith since the original and was waiting for an updated version after 2014.
      When they announced RS+, I was skeptical but hopeful. I know there's a bunch of legal stuff needed to acquire these songs. But something seemed off from the new business model they chose for this version.

  • @teknonmy7210
    @teknonmy7210 Год назад +30

    the problem with the licensing model is, the R+ library is about 8x the size of my CustomsForge library. I only have maybe 50 songs out of that CF library on regular rotation. The R+ library is missing almost all of them. The 8000 tracks sounds impressive, but Songsterr has 800k and GuitarPro has over a million.
    We know Rocksmith songs are just GP5 tabs plus the audio zipped into a single file. The tabs aren't copyright infringement, so really what we need is a streaming-service type deal with the major labels.

    I played RS+ during the beta. Realised it was no improvement over RS 2014, and the song catalogue, especially for bass, was pathetic, and it wasn't worth a subscription, so I went back to 2014. My son subbed for 12 months, and tells me the song content has not got much better. If you could have simply bought the game it may have been ok, but as a sub model it's definitely too expensive.

    Rocksmith 2014 is literally how I learned how to play guitar. I'm by no means what I would call "good", but I can play nearly every song I enjoy now, after having utilized ONLY this for the last 9 years. I ended up going with a somewhat crazy setup with a splitter to a real amp so there's zero latency with my tone, and it just sounds so much better. Rocksmith 2014 also lets you "hack" it so you can add user created custom songs. Some of which are surprisingly accurate. I imagine that having played the guitar as long as you have would make this difficult since you have to learn how to translate the information from the screen to your hands, but once you get used to it, Rocksmith, imo, is one of the greatest tools to learn how to play guitar, and it REALLY nails the single most important thing about learning guitar. Keeping things fun and entertaining so you keep picking your guitar back up, regardless of your skill level.

      I was an experienced musician for years before rocksmith and never had any issues with it. I love using it to just practice playing songs and styles of music I would never otherwise hear or play.
      Sometimes people are not used to reading tabs or can't process the visual information quickly enough. My dad who grew up learning everything by ear with no visual input has trouble with it.
      The biggest mistake experienced musicians make IMO is setting the difficulty too high when they aren't used to the interface yet and don't know the songs. RS is about precision and is great for practicing timing. The dynamic difficulty level will add more note information as needed, it's great.

      @DerTiger 9 месяцев назад +1

      sorry if i have to say this but: you probably did it wrong. I was having the same problem with rocksmith. couldn't play shit without it. but at some point there is the "master" mode where the notes are hidden. Also you can also go for highscore in master mode and such. And THAT way i learned to memorize the song, because i couldn't see the notes. Only when i made a mistake. And that's how you really learn with rocksmith.

    • @Traumglanz
      @Traumglanz Месяц назад

      @@DerTiger They removed master mode in RS+ :D
      But to be fair, nothing is stopping you from not watching the screen and learning each section in rift repeater to memorize them. It's still something that a lot of people struggle it, as the need to memorize songs rarely comes up within rocksmith itself. You get the muscle memory, but you do not get automatically stored the correct order to play the whole song from memory, you have to make an active effort for that.

    The note highway in Rocksmith has always been so confusing to me. Tabs and sheet music is all horizontal scroll but for this they want you to sight-read vertically and on an angle? It just seems counterintuitive and backwards in my mind and it's no wonder experienced guitarists struggle to adapt to it. Good for beginners I guess just starting, but you're better off just learning how to read tabs and playing along to those online. It's the same thing except for free, it's easier and there's way more songs to choose from.
    I did love Rock Band and Guitar Hero back in the day though. Those were fun even if you already knew how to play guitar.

  • @jannik19191
    @jannik19191 Год назад

    I played a bit of Rocksmith 2014 in the past, and I never understood the way they try to teach songs. I really don't see the value in teaching 'easier' versions of riffs, where basically just some notes are left out. Every note added back in basically requires the player to re-learn the riff entirely. There's not much point in developing muscle memory for a dumbed-down version of a riff you want to play.
    The way I usually learn by tabs is by playing the notes slowly to get used to the fingerings and remember what to play. Then I try to play in somewhat correct rhythm and tempo, until I get to the point where I can actually play to the song. The riff repeater in Rocksmith is a great tool for this approach, but only if I have the tabs available to me at the same time
    I also think the stream of notes is a lot harder to read than traditional tabs, but maybe that's only a matter of getting used to it.
    All in all, not the tool for me.

    I don’t think I would ever get used to that display, I am just a bit older than you and I learned 80% by ear 15% tan and like 5% from actual “how to play” books. My first band covered more than a feeling but honestly even knowing the song I couldn’t follow what the screen was saying and I learned seven nation years ago because I wanted my kids to think I was cool and that one I could track on the screen a bit better but I think to be truly effective for me would be to spend a few days just getting familiar with the interface and disobey then learning some songs. I think for players not set in their ways and much more accustomed to the way the “game” is displayed it would be a great tool for learning. I don’t think it would be a great tool for me personally to learn songs it’s just too foreign for an ok’d guy like me.

    I feel like if you’re just starting out, this line of games is great, but I found it unintuitive for learning songs cause they don’t divide the songs based on how the artists play the songs. Like for instance, in “Ties That Bind” by Alter Bridge, if you select the lead guitar part, you are playing Myles Kennedy’s part in the second verse and bridge, but then Mark Tremonti’s parts for the last chorus and solo. I wish that could’ve been an option

    playing this on a iPad seems like the worst way to play this. Put that shit on a TV so you can see it
    Don't feel bad about failing at this. i tried playing the OG Rocksmith but couldn't do it due to how the notes come at you. My old brain is too used to how you read tabs lol.
    Maybe if you're brand new to guitar it's fine, but for someone that played for many years prior, i found rocksmith to be impossible for me

    shame that the 7 day free trial is forced only if you accept being on a 12 month plan, thats a big risk

    Use your ears man, you're struggling to play a simple power chord riff just because the notes moving on the screen look foreign to you?

    The idea of watching a screen and playing along is completely foreign to an old ear player like me. When learning or improvising to new songs, I focus on listening and almost turn off other senses. The idea of using my eyes to give me ques instead of my ears seems counterintuitive to me and frankly hurts my head thinking about it. You young guys can do that. This old dog can't.
