- In this video we will explore and compare two cult wines of Napa Valley, Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle. We will discuss the world of winery allocation, and learn about the history of these two wines and how they developed their cult status. We will also be opening a 2012 vintage of each bottle and put them against each other to find the ultimate cult cabernet.

That wine room looks incredible
Thank you for making videos like this! I love the perspectives of a wine beginner, wine collector who loves to learn, and a sommelier. As a sommelier myself this makes me so happy to see, thank you and I wish you continued success and growth!
That comment made me so happy. - Pops
Have been on the waiting list for screaming eagle for 8 years now. Finally got my scarecrow 2 years ago.
Thanks for this showing, loved it !!
Great show! Thanks for sharing these great wines with us!
You probably already know this but if you like Screaming Eagle, I'd recommend Favia run by one of Screaming Eagle's old winemakers (Andy Erickson) and Heidi Barrett's Barrett & Barrett. Heidi did Screaming Eagle's first vintage.
I really enjoyed your review of these two iconic wines. Beautiful wine cellar. Thank you 🍷
Can't wait for my delivery of '19 Harlan end of June. I'm a seller though so won't be tasting myself unfortunately.
Glad i found this channel. Loving the videos, can't wait to see you grow. From Australia
Hope to do some of the Australian legends at some point. I have a few bottles of '08 Grange in my cellar but that about it for Australian wines. Any suggestions?
Amazing videos guys, mega quality channel so far! Congratulations and keep it up 👏👏
Great little show.
Enjoyed the vid and review. Have had Harlan a few times and amazed every time. Hope to one day have a crack at a Screaming Eagle. On yeah, I subbed! Salud!
Great video! Loved the history and your personal story. We are huge Caymus and Repris fans…this is another level.
Funny that you mentioned Repris - I love their wines and had a chance to visit the winery. First got to know them when they were Audelssa many years ago. Their Left Bank is sublime. So happy you enjoyed the video.
This was an awesome tasting!
Another great video! I have just spotted a major problem though… what’s Caymus doing in your cellar?!?!? Dump it.
LOL - too funny. Caymus is my brother's favorite wine. When he visits from Norway, or when I travel there, I make sure to give him plenty of Caymus SS. It's like liquid candy - sweet and syrupy - and he loves it.
Just bought 2 3 cases of Harlan 12. 6 bottles total. I may say i am glad i did!
Btw
Is that a personal cellar?! I love it.
Really curious if you’ve had Rudd wine. They are neighbors with screaming eagle and the story is so beautiful and the vineyard/garden is top tier amazing
I have a case of '15 Rudd Oakville Estate Proprietary Red in the cellar. Bought it upon release but have tried it yet. Looking forward to it now!
@@OurPourDecisions I had a 2014 Oakville red which was drinking beautifully at this time but could definitely sit for years to come
1994 Harlan, if you can find it is over $1000. What an experience Marius and B! Parker gave that vintage 100pt!
parker giving wine 100 points should be you first question mark😅
@Ruirspirul ;) he was exuberant about the wines he liked and had a huge affect on what was produced in Napa for years, so to ignore him and any wine he liked would be a mistake. Our palates may differ, but his remarks and reviews do give us a peak into a history of Napa wines.
Love the channel name!! Cheers
Me too. But probably for a completely different reason. They describe the channel itself. It's a poor decision to watch this crap. If you are serious then watch Mathew Horkey and Konstantin Baum instead. They know what they talk about and describe the wines. Blind. Not just talk talk talk that are supposed to sound fancy.
@@nikolajkrarup-os9gn lmao what a wine snob
I love how the young lady is keeping it real. No doubt her wine journey will be an impressive one.
Thank you for the kind words! 😊
There is no comparison between Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle other than rarity and demand. My opinion, of course.
I always thought Screaming Eagle to be a course wine.
That was not our experience at all. Beautiful wine.
Of course, coarse is what I meant. Your very description sounded as if you agreed.
It was Pops' favorite and very balanced. The Harlan had more fruit upfront.
Who is Pop?
The 1994 vintage from Napa is the greatest vintage I have seen. The only other vintage comparable, to me, is 1999. Wine Spectator noticed this too and compared the two vintages by taking the scores they had given to 20 or 30 or more wines that they had tasted from both vintages and then adding them up and dividing. 1999 "won" by 0.1 points. But there were stylistic differences. The 1999 vintage happened after the huge and super delicious 1997 vintage that lead to the big alcohol wines of the first decade of the new century. The 1999s did not have the big alcohol but were brilliant. The 1994s could do anything. With or without food, drink now or cellar. The 1999s could do those things too and seemed to have a bit more fruit and a bit more structure on a slightly lighter frame. Of course, these are my opinions and I'm sure someone would disagree. That's fine as no one can drink the wine for you.
That's amazing - thank you so much for sharing. The '94 Harlan was such a special wine and I'll remember it forever.
Can we please see a tour of the wine room 🔥🔥
Great idea!! We will definitely be filming that video very soon so stay tuned
Do “cult” wines use any additives like color, oak essence, etc., or do they rely 100% on the grape juice for flavor?
100% grape juice. It's the wood and the winemaking techniques that will impart those secondary aromas/flavours.
That Harlan cork shows questionable storage. "Dusty tannins"(astringent?), "more approachable", "garnet"(more bottle age for the same year). I liked the video.
It’s not from his cellar! Tough about auctions …
@@froth7133--That was his comment earlier in the video("most cults are obtained from the secondary market")
original screaming eagle are only up to the vintage 2009, as long as jean phillips making the wines there. in this time there is guaranteed that the number of bottles from only one vineyard is really limited.
What glasses are you all using?
They are the William Sonoma long stemmed glasses!
@@OurPourDecisions With a collection like that, you need better stemware
Yeah, I've tried a lot of high end glasses over the years. Most of them are super fragile and high maintenance . So many people have commented on the glasses that maybe I need to give it another try...

Bee’s vocal fry is annoying. It would sound much better if you spoke naturally without so much affectation.
Hey - that's my lovely daughter you're talking about! :-)
@@OurPourDecisionsThat was a bit rude. She just sounded enthusiastic to me, and otherwise completely normal. I know I would have been excited being able to try both wines.
Also, your wine cellar is amazing and I’m jealous. I have some great wines in my collection, but it’s just a small fraction of what you have. I could spend a few hours looking over it.
