this is why i strictly collect 9s lol. you’re getting cards that are still ultra minty, for a fraction of the price. the premiums that 10s carry are silly to me
Likewise, I don't see why you should only buy 10s even when you are investing. 9s are also appreciating quite nicely and you can still buy them at your budget and not eat cardboard until your next paycheck
Great video and a really helpful perspective. I think PSA 10s for me are about the Pop report. I recently got a PSA 10 Unlimited Dark Alakazam from rocket. They are a pop 53 which is 3% of all graded. PSA 9 pop is 452 so it’s hard to get the 10. Needless to say with the old set I think the 10s will get harder and harder to grade so it seemed worth it to me. However this is really interesting to think through because I’m interested in collecting the alt arts from sword and shield, I think the whole era was printed so much to meet demand and almost every alt art will be sent to PSA. Most are already in the hundreds if not thousands PSA 10, these sets are still being printed, there’s a huge backlog at PSA and they’re grading so many more for the years to come. In this case I’m tempted to collect the cheaper 9s because there will be so many 9s and 10s anyways
I like PSA slabs because the label doesn't take away from the card. There isn't a giant number on it making u feel some type of way before looking at the card itself. I generally like looking for 9's that look like 10's. Unless I'm submitting cards myself then of course I want 10's lol
I collect mostly 10, some 9 and few 8. Honestly 9and 10 is not much different, but the price is different. Recently Got a 9 Mario Pikachu, For about $3K, but it has much better centering in front then some 10 in ebay. You may get 10 but not all 10 is good in centering. To me the front condition and the front center is more important then the grading number.
PSA 10's are not worth double the 9's especially for newer cards which are all pack fresh straight into a sleeve. The differences are usually centering or print lines nothing about the card is actually damaged.
Thanks for the kind words! Id love to make more videos. I have a few coming down the pipeline but if you have any suggestions be sure to let me know and I'll give you a shoutout!
I bought a first edition shadowless Raichu psa 9 a few years back. I was so pissed when it arrived with 4 print lines on the Holo. Two vertical & two horizontal. I get why some PSA 10’s command a premium. Some times it’s worth it for certain collectors.
Great video that I’ve come across at a great time for me in terms of getting back into Pokémon collecting. Quick back story: A bout a year before Covid I started buying vintage PSA slabs and raw vintage and grading them. Even though I’m in the U.K. I was paying a low grading price and getting cards back to me in 6-8 weeks!! Fast forward a year or so and I began selling my cards at a healthy profit to fund a big family holiday (which ended up being cancelled anyway due to Covid). Now I’ve looked into getting back in the game and the 9s and 10s I previously owned are selling at astronomical levels compared to what I was buying them at. Needless to say I’m priced out and I’ve been thinking about focusing on 8s instead. I’m looking into making my first re-entry purchase a Shadowless Alakazam at PSA 8, which gives me a balance of cost and card quality. I was tempted to look at 7s and lower too, but something is telling me to focus on 8s.
I have a pop 1 psa 10 of an nba players rookie auto card, the specific set is notorious for white corners and edges. The pop 1 I have shouldn’t be a 10. It’s clearly a 9 (edge wear) maybe even a 8 from a harsh critic. But this specific grader gave it a 10. You see this with a lot of sports cards (imo it’s hard to grade sports cards because of how different the designs are depending on the set).

Exactly. Paying 3x for one less white dot seems crazy to me. If i need a magnifying glass to see the damage im not going to care.
Even 8s are nice imo
@@joelh90 I completely agree!

yeah I always try my best to look at the card not the grade, but emotion often gets in the way.
I wish it wasn’t true, but customers typically buy numbers instead of actual cards
For sure, I've been guilty of it too, but its happening more and more with uneducated buyers
Time to buy up 1999 charizard unlimited psa 9

Yeah I try not to buy 10s for that reason. If I grade a card myself at a 10 I usually keep it, but when buying already graded I just go for 8s and 9s.
Fire channel bro, could you make a video on how to start collecting sports cards?
Yeah I'll add it to my list!
Ur video of alternate options for alternate art cards was awesome. U should really post more videos, your content is really good and honest

Yeah definitely depends on the card and the collector

Nothing wrong with 8s! my rule is if I can't see the damage at arms length its good enough for me.
Watching this after murdering a psa case was almost sad lol
Great video again my bro 😎 love all these cards but the Coro the SI mew and the reverse zard is so fire 🔥

I agree! sometimes the grader just has a good day haha
"Why grading is a scam and PSA controls the lobby", with extra steps.
I love this vid! I collect 8's cuz they are still near mint and a great deal compared to higher grades. It is also my lucky number as well.
