if you are breaking strings like that, you have a problem with your saddles. a very common issue.
Yeah I used to break 2 strings a gig, changed to graph tech saddles, no more problems.

Interested to see how this works out, as i don't even gig, but in the UK summer if a set strings lasts a week without going black, inspite of cleaning after each session it's a miracle (using bulk buy nickel ddario's).
The marketing department at EB has probably worked out that the majority of guitarists theses days just sit watching RUclips videos with their guitar collection hanging on the wall behind them. They don't actually play any of them more than 30 minutes in 90 days so 98% of the strings they sell will be pure profit. To me it seems like the people who worked out the wording on the guarantee didn't think about it very much ......... or did they! :0 As long as they honour their guarantee with the guitarists that actually play and break strings it's all okay I suppose. So if you gigged 4 times a week between the two bands and broke strings ever 2 gigs you should be up to receive about (90 days divided by 7 = 9 weeks x 2 = 18) 18 sets of strings to keep you happy for each purchase. Then it all starts again of course if you buy more of them with your own money :0 :0 :0 They also might just ask which strings you broke and send you single strings. It might be worthwhile to hire a secretary to keep track of all receipts, emails, photo's, packaging, filing and mailing duties involved though Dave. :0

Stirling Archer when strings break like that, it is not the fault of the string but the saddles on the guitar.
I just ordered a set of these myself. Personally I don't care much one way or the other about the claims for strength and longevity. For me the price is about 2 bucks more than any other basic set of strings so if they are great quality aside from the claims made and they also come with 90 days free replacement I'm still sold. But mostly I just wanted a set to see what they are all about first hand. If I like them though I will keep buying them given the price not being such a big deal here.
Wow! in the UK a pack of Paradigm strings costs 3xtimes more than a standard pack of EB's
You should review the NYXL's from everything I have heard they are basically the same concept as paradigm only the d'addario version and way better than the paradigms. Are they way better? only one way to find out I say. Still the same price only I found a package that comes in a tin and you get not only the NYXL string set but 3 sets of the normal XL strings and an assortment of picks in a pick holder so I think I might grab one of those. Can't go wrong since the package gives you 4 sets and the end cost makes the NYXL set the same price as the normal ones. Basically like buying 3 normal sets of slinkys and getting a set of paradigms at the same price with extra goodies.
This video is bullshit. i am a huge string breaker. Nothing last me more than 8 hours of playing before breaking strings. BUT i have had the Paradigms on now for months, two rehearsals per week of playing full speed Thrash Metal, I am a heavy hitter on the string, and the Paradigms are still going, still sounding fresh, the string are NOT even kinking over my tunomatic bridge saddles, they are defying my disbelief. I have used both ZMACK and TITANIUM saddles and they still going, intonation is great, tuning stability hardly an issue, as I expect when strings age and are played and fucked up. They are still going, the tone is clear and fine. I still prefer GHS tensility and feel, but with GHS i always have tuning sabilty and the snap after two to three rehersals. The Paradigms sound better than slinkys and are still going. Into my second month now... So we'll see
Oxidation never bothered me if strings still sounded good, stayed in tune, and lasted. I've been using Cobalts for about eight years now in 9-42 and 10-46 and haven't broken a string since. They last a very long time and sound great. They also stay in tune better than D'Addarios and Elixirs. I find that D'Addario's do not sound as good as they did in the 80s. They're bright, but it's a harsh brightness.
Cobalts lasted me for a week before rusting, even the wound strings lol
I'll stick to my elixirs. What point is there to buy strings that die instandly after playing for a hour...or 15 min depending on individual accidic levels.v'-'v i mean we are not slash we dony get free strings to string new ones after every 2 songs .

I Beta Tested The Paradigm But In 9-42 They Tuned Really Quickly When I Restringed But When Played They Didn't Stay Much In Tune ,The D String Didn't Break On The Paradigm But On Elixir's They Did Which Is Why I'm Not A Huge Fan Of Coated Strings \m/
try stretching the strings out if you dont about 2 or 3 times before playing, they will stay in tune better

That's a fair policy. If you keep buying a product that doesn't do what it claims for you, it's on you after a point.
I’ve never liked Ernie ball strings. They’re overpriced garbage. If I buy cheap garbage I buy Dunlop heavy core strings. They’re usually $3.25 on sale I buy a couple of pairs. But on m fancy guitars I buy elixer strings. I’ve had a guitar with a Floyd Rose and some elixer strings since 2012. I’m never going to restring it lol
I can’t tell you how much I can’t stand Ernie Ball strings. I do kinda like the Cobalts though. They feel totally different and take some getting used to. All of the big name artists that used their strings get them changed before every gig by their techs so longevity won’t be an issue anyway and they will always sound and feel fresh anyway. So far I have to say my favorite strings have been the D’Addario NYXL’s.
Ernie Ball are the worst oxidizing strings I've ever encountered. Put them on and 10 minutes of playing they start to turn black. I haven't used them in years and probably never will again.
Glad its not just me having issues, but i thought that they solved the issue with paradigm strings, hence the massive cost of them.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the update, informative as usual. I just thought I'd let you and the viewers know, I recently changed strings on two guitars and as I had never tried Ernie Balls I decided to try the hybrid Slinky's . I was impressed by the duality ( 10 e-d, 9 g-e ) giving thicker bass but with more ease of bend. However, I also fitted elixir nano webs to a similar guitar the same evening, two weeks later having played both guitars a few times, the elixir one more, oxidation on the EB's on all the most played fret positions and the thinner strings feel weak even though I am not a heavy player and use medium thick picks. The elixirs are still like new and have a real smoothness of playability and on the ebony fretboard play like finger skating!! Twice the price but twice as nice and they last!! Going to swap the EB's for cheap Adagio's with long last coating, I will let you know how how they go.
I had the same problem with Super Slinky set from them for years. They played great, but would break and oxidize quick. I just switched to XL’s and no issues. I always wash my hands before I play which has always helped.
Strings are important, especially if you want to keep a pretty simple signal chain as I do. Just an amp, a few pedals, and my guitar. So pickups, strings, and even picks and cables make a big difference to me. You can use whatever stings you want. To each their own. But the reason I like Ernie Ball is that they were the first company to really make proper strings for electric guitars. So they know a thing or two out the subject. D'Addario, Dunlop and Dean Markley make fine strings. I just find Slinkys are more comfortable, bright without being harsh, and break in pretty fast. D'Addario's take forever to break in. GHS only start to stablizine once they are structurally compromised from extensive use. I'll stick with Slinkys.
Rotosound were making guitar strings in the late 50's, Ernie ball started in 62. Just for the record :)
@@DaveBarlowGuitar I know, but Ernie Ball was the first company to include an unwound G string. That's why I say Ernie Ball was the first company to make "proper strings for electric guitar. Rotosound have since developed a very strong rep for their bass strings. Another thing about bass strings that make them different from guitar strings is they are not only much more expensive on average but changed a lot less frequently. I knew bassists who changed strings maybe twice a year, and some were professionals. Most used Rotos. Ernie Ball made a concerted effort to make the kind of strings guitarists were asking for. He made a name in the L.A. music scene, as did Seymour Duncan with his pickups, Leo Fender and his guitars, amps, etc.
thanks for the follow up dave. i guess they will say 90 days from the date of original purchase, so in theory you need to buy 4 sets a year.
If you read the fine print. You only get 3 replacements per year. It’s a complete gimmick.
i got a set of paradigm for my acoustic , gauge 11 , and it didn't broke but 3th string got worn after a few bending , then i changed my G string to previous one , very low life
I've bought a set and not fitted them yet. Usually use the slinky 9's and wanted a set to feel newer for longer.
Never broke a string in 20 years as I'm a light twiddly picker (faster playing that way).

In the USA I have had some very good feedback about D'Addario and you can buy them in boxes of 25 so makes them very affordable. In the UK I use Legacy strings, if I cant get them I now use Rotosound.

I've been using D'Addario for years now. They're cheaper and they sound brighter and last longer than Ernie Ball, at least in my experience.
Are Legacy really Rotosounds? I was told that recently by one of my clients...
I have not yet tried ernie ball on electric guitars but I use gauge 10 earthwound strings on my acoustic.
Lasts lretty well as long as you wipe it after use. (I'm sweaty af btw)

well I have a bad experience with erine ball, I bought 2 sets of 11s, which was good at first, then starts tuning after like a week past by one of the string pop while I was tuning. then I put on the other set and few days later the same string pop, and I wasn't going to spend money with them anymore, and now i use D'addario strings. D'addario fits me the best, love there strings and the strings last a long time. So I am never going other buy erine ball strings again

Has anyone used GHS boomers? I've been using them quite a while and they are great. Sound great,last a long time and relatively cheap.
I'm currently using the D'Addario long lasting ones. Sounded good at the start, starting to dull a bit now (I've had them on for 2 months now). Not sure whether they are really worth it.
i only change string if im gonna play live or break a single.14$ per set im not seeing the value for me.

There's a limit of 3 replacements a year. That being said I completely agree with everything you said as I have had the same exact experience with my Gibson SG and ESP viper

Even their normal slinky strings don't last me a day. I just restrung my electric and acoustic with ernie ball strings and already the area where I play the most has started to blacken. Great tone, great tuning stability. But not a long life span
I stopped drinking coffee/caffeine about 7 months ago and my strings seem to be holding up for a bit longer and less oxidation, not sure if its connected or not.
Mine lasted a full year! No rust and played ok too.

I know this is an older vid. However. I hope you got your guitar fixed.
I have used Paradigm and pulled 10 plus gigs along with jamming at home, out of one set. There are also plenty of non-sponsored honest long-term reviews on the paradigms. Looking at all the honest feedback. There is only one conclusion you can come to. They are a better string for the longevity period. If you are Breaking Paradigm after two gigs there is something wrong with your guitar (fact). Or you are two plus step bending every not every time. as for rust same thing, the evidence and personal experience show they will get plenty dirty if not cleaned but show rust color on white rag does not seem to be an issue. I personally have a very heavy bending hand & play a lot of blues and I was breaking 9's high E strings to the point of going back and trying to learn a lighter technique but now with the Paradigm, I can play with my personal style for months before I choose to change them. I have not broken a string yet. I did one on my strat but that was because I had a bur on my saddle and that is the only time I broke a Paradigm.

Can get packs of like 25 d'addario 10-48 too, works out to be like £2.70 p/set

On the 4th 5 th 6th strings around ends of the strings.And some in middle not as much as the ends,
I did like Ernie ball but that put me off,So thats why i use now D'addario.

No they only replace the string, you need to keep the packaging and proof or prchase. The replacement string has no warranty so if that breaks within 90 days thats it.
I watch your channel quite a bit. Just my opinion... I prefer a string that is not too hard on my frets or my wallet. I've been playing Gibson Les Pauls since 1989. I am sold on ghs Boomers for the simple fact that they'll last two to three sometimes four gigs and they will not where your Frets down like the D'Addario paradigm will.
I only use Sfarzo SFT screamers or Rotosound now.
Dave Barlow .... well my white American ass will have to give them a try. I did order the blues engine and dirty torque set. For an old Epiphone I had lying around. I think I will try the Tesla sharks now anyway you're doing good things for the guitar player my brother in Rock!

I'm not sure how you break strings so quickly. I pick and play quite hard and I don't break strings. I also play usually an hour to 4 hours a day. My strings last around a month before I change them.

My low E has been broken after 14 Days with round about 10h of playing. Filled the "warranty" online, got an adress where to send them back. Sended them back with the "warranty.pdf" on paper. Now three Weeks later still heared nothing about my Strings.
After two weeks i ask them on Twitter and a guy answerd me "pls send me an email". I sended him an email with my string product code an the adress where ive had to send it. He answerd to me "i ckeck out whats going on."
That was on Monday and still know nothing whats next. Just using DÁddario NYXL again, they rust but they dont break
Still not received my replacements, I have given up.
I contacted the Ernie Ball partner where i send my Strings. I will write here if something is happening
I got an answer from the Email adress they gave me on Twitter. They wanted some information about what strings exactly i used. How they broke, date of order/geting them on, if i tryed to contact the partner ect. Now im waiting and report again if something happening
I got new ones Today :-D But i think i dont put them on and still use Elixir because they didnt rust or break

No such string exists! You should be changing them after every gig for best playability and tone.

Haha played like 2-4 times a week sets of 4 hours and mostly changed them once a year. And if one broke most of the time you could reuse them because of the briliance of the floyd rose system
Elixir
Have a look at a set of elixirs. I used to use power slinkys then I tried elixirs as a longer lasting option and man was I blown away they don't rust in 3 days like other strings they're awesome.
check out my video on Elixirs, yes agreed they do not oxidise but sadly I was breaking them the same as my normal strings.
