This was released in 1993 with no internet to give a walkthrough. I can't imagine the amount of time 90s kids spent trying to figure out how to beat this level.
Ok, hear me out, maybe, possible, don't hold me up on in, he... did some practice runs before recording a walk through... Just a theory... I totally could be wrong...
This map was interesting, but it was too annoying with all the switches and burning ground, one can easily get lost and die because of burning all the way. At least I am already familiar with it so I know where to go every time I play.
It's true though this map was confusing as hell literally it took me so long just to find the yellow key bunch of random doors leading to random places I just kept going through the same teleporters over and over again hoping for a different outcome.
Looove this walkthrough series. Just started playing Ultimate Doom recently and every time I beat a level, I come here to watch how you did it quicker and better to inspire my approach to the next level. I only played Doom briefly as a kid and now that I'm finally playing it seriously, I cannot believe how much I've missed out on!
Excellent, detailed walkthrough; thank you! I had no problem with this game E1M1 through E3M6. Got to E3M7, finally collected all the keys, but couldn’t figure out how to extend the platform to reach the exit. 🤦🏻♂️
I ran around and fixed this map first try, I thought. I've activated the switches and the bridge to the exit has been lifted. But I can't remember the way there... It's extra frustrating because I've been there! Like 3 or 4 times and now I can't remember. I have cleaned out most medpacs because of the lava floors so now I'm here. I like the map but my memory fails me. EDIT:Haha skipped to the last part. Thx. Saved this soul some pain and retrys. Great videos. Very easy to follow. You are good at giving directions. Most youtube guides is like "Go here" and then they just run through 3 rooms. You actually explain and pinpoint items and landmarks. And you describe it at a pleasant speed and with clarity. My hat is off to you, sir.
These videos are evergreen. Someone will always be playing Doom for the first time, and always need a walk through. Id forgotten so much about this game since i first played it 30 years ago
This was probably the craziest Doom level I played, the endless pools of killer blood will leave you clinging dearly for life and the many many Cacodemons will put you on edge. Not the hardest level, but you really had to use your head, use items sparingly including radiation suits. I was stuck on this one for a while.
Such a brilliant walk-through and only 9 minutes! A few weeks ago I was stuck on this level for hours: I managed to collect all the keys BUT that final bridge to the EXIT door was not there, I was 99% certain I found a BUG (or rather a Bug found me). ...but after more aimless and endless roaming I finally found that switch and progressed to the final level. I DO remember seeing that poor rabbit's head on a stake, I must have completed DOOM in my childhood - unlike Duke Nukem 3D which I never did because I was stuck at Toxic Dump for decades until you I saw a walk through recently in your videos ;-)
It took me FOREVER to find the blue key. I was searching for it but couldn't find it, then it was behind one wall in a red room with the chaingun and rocket launcher. The reason I couldn't find it was the area was hidden because it blended in with the wall, and I had to resort to a walkthrough to find that out. So yeah, the game's good, but Inferno is frustrating as hell itself to figure out
I love doom but I also hate it ...because I'm crap at it. I keep trying to complete the levels getting pissed off and coming to these videos to find out where I'm lost. you make it look very Easy!
Just imagine us poor sods who first encountered this map on PSX. Much creepier, with a hellish burning sky instead of a random blue roof, but no ability to save during the level and a layout that is confusing and unfriendly. It isn't a hard map as such, but you need to know where you're going, as the lava floors can lead to you starting from the beginning. This map and Unholy Cathedral are Ultimate Doom's "The Citadel". EDIT: It's also just called Limbo on PSX.
Hey BMD thanks for all these videos they are great. I was playing this map recently and discovered it is possible to get the yellow key without hitting the switch to trigger the bridge. If you do a full on sprint from a good enough distance you can get enough speed to use the stairs as a ramp and launch over to the platform. Much easier to hit the switch but I could not find it for some reason so kept trying this method which took a couple tries but is feasible.
@@BigMacDavis It is amazing how much creativity the player is given with how they choose to approach a level. Who would think to grab an invincibilty sphere then use blast damage from a rocket to fly through the air haha
I also like playing this map, for me it was very well concepted. Each key has a definite task: the blue one gives access to the maze that leads to the red one, which opens all the teleporters in the islands requiring you to go through all of them to sort out that kind of puzzle in order to get to the yellow key and the final area to finish the level. One weird thing with my ZDoom is that unlike BigMacDavis' walkthroughs, I have to get all radiation suits to get 100% items. Found out by finishing E3M6 (Mt. Erebus) and realising that was missing items, then replayed the map to get all of them. Same happened here.
i enjoyed this episode. there has a lot of back and forth going on but once you reach the exit you get that satisfying feeling which i thought i few episodes, mainly the short and easy ones lacked. i like that id put more of the challenge in the puzzle, not the enemy's or their placement.
Bro thank you very much, I was stuck in this map & your video helped me to complete it & go to the last map & finish the game, which I was waiting for this moment since the year 1997 (when I first had this game on PC MS-Windows 3.1 on DOS) well I couldn't end the game at that time when I was a kid :) it was difficult for me, I was maybe 11 years old at that time & today I am 37 & finally I ended the game =) its like an achievement for me, however the ending was rubbish Bwahahahaha. ((Greetings from Dubai, United Arab Emirates).
At first I felt apprehensive of the lava floor maze, but they actually give enough suits - and some saving before exploring a potential dead end helps as well. And the maze trick of 'go left (or right) every time until you can go left no further - then take the next left' works really well. Eventually you'll get everywhere.
Hmm, I never thought of using the chainsaw for a good portion of this map. But ya know what they say, the chainsaw is always 20% Cooler. In all honesty, I'm glad you're back. I've missed seeing your new videos each day. But still, it's good to know that you've gotten everything sorted out. =D
Nice job with using the Chainsaw against the Demons and Shotgunners. I do like the Bloodring, and I know you like it for certain because it's red, and looks like Hell. Energy Pell, lol I know what you ment by that. Cacademons, your favorite enemy, that's cool. I think I keep misspelling Cacademon, I guess it's just something natural with me. Good job with the map BMD, and welcome back man. I managed to finish off Escapism and Super Mario Land 2 when you were gone.
This map frustrated me so much I actually drew a simplified map with these circles with numbers in them to indicate the order of doing things in. It worked.
You know what you missed here? Right as you're ending this level and you open the final yellow door, you're very eager to just go for the exit, but if you turned around you'd find 2 energy cell boxes that you just went past. Then you grab the single "energy pell" in the exit room, but you could have had three times that. :P
Thank you so much ! I was completly stuck, I forgot to take a teleporter to flip the swith wich created a brigde to open a door, to flip another switch... My time was 31:42:23, countless of saves and countless times did I died ! , the total amount of time must have been well over 2 hours. , so yes, 'great map' lol
As demanding as this map is in regard to teleports and switches, it's a piece of cake compared to The Abyss from DN3D. Looking for the switches and obscured teleports across a vast map with lots of enemies and dangerous spots was immensely frustrating (when I played it back in 1996 I gave up and use a no-clip to get to the boss). In comparison, Gate To Limbo was just challenging and demanding enough to be fun.
Trying to remember... This might be in my top 5, but certainly my favorite map in all of Ultimate Doom would probably go to E1M4. Fast paced music, the "swastika" room, all the barrels, yep. :)
what's moreso, was how I survived the Energy Leech fight (on the 1st Insane Difficulty run, I might add) using both the RPG and the Enforcer Gun together on it, as the 3-shot burst from the latter weapon deals heavy damage on him and destroys its electrical projectiles at the same time.
F this map, thanks for the walk-through . I had it pretty much all done but kept missing the switch right behind me that lifted up the bridge to the orange key :/
I like this level because of having to solve the puzzle, also because overtime you will forget wich teleport you have to take in wich order once you haven’t played (ultimate) doom for a while, also i cannot imagine why doomguy would die from the blood rich(wich to me looks more like lava) unless there’re some coronavirusses hiding there😁

No kidding. All the teleporting really confuses me today, and I've been playing Doom since I was 12, almost ten years.
It’s called old gaming magazine guides lol

i love this map but yeah... i can see this frustrating the helllll outta people. id take away some of the damaging floors
Yep, I really got lost when I played through all of the original Doom one time
Same. I was actually able to leap to one of the yellow doors without hitting the switch for the bridge. Still don’t know how I did that lol.
Cry more?
It's true though this map was confusing as hell literally it took me so long just to find the yellow key bunch of random doors leading to random places I just kept going through the same teleporters over and over again hoping for a different outcome.
This is the most confusing map, thank u, and never again am I playing this map

Eh, it's quite easy once you memorize how to do it. Try IDDQD and practice the puzzle.
Great walkthrough dude I was just stuck on this level, but thanks to you im not anymore, much appreciated!!
Word of advice use ur radiation suits wisely
Ya definitely.
Lol
I learned that in the hard way lol

Omg yes it took me a while to figure that one out too. It had something to do with that eerie sound that was like a teleporter key or something.
