Dredd remains one of the biggest surprises I’ve ever experienced as a movie-goer. Perfectly cast and does not let up for one second. Despite a modest budget it still looks fantastic, and I think it’s one of the most underrated action flicks around. Also an excellent entry in the Cyberpunk genre if that’s your thing. Wish enough people had seen it - it really deserved (and was set up for) a sequel.
@@Heimdall6581 I hadn't heard that, but if it could keep up with the film, I'd be excited. The film's Dredd and Anderson were so excellent together, might be a letdown assuming there'd be new cast.
Omg THANK YOU! I've been waiting for years for anyone to recognize Spectral. It's a decent story that's well acted and cried for another film. Not a continuation of the same story but another story involving the main character.
Agree with Dune...my fave on this list. I've read all the books---more than once---and you are correct: to get THAT much information on screen in a relatively short time was an incredible feat, and that makes it worthy of #1, not to mention just the INCREDIBLE production. I too cannot wait for Part 2 (and Messiah---that is THE one that will put this trilogy up there with LoTR and Star Wars).
I am a huge Dune book fan as well, but I think if they do Dune Messiah they will have to do at least children of Dune as well since it really wraps up the story of many characters. I doubt someone will ever adapt God Emperor of Dune but I still hope since it is my favorite book in the saga
L.A. Confidential is not talked about enough. Easily in my top 3 of all time ! Thanks for mentioning Love and Monsters. I had the chance to work on it (leading the whole animation team) and nice to see somebody acknowledging its existence. It kinda flew under the radar...
I couldn’t agree with you more regarding the majority of these films…I absolutely ❤ Love and Monsters and The Suicide Squad. Your reviews are always spot on.
Had no idea opinions were so mixed about Black Swan! I've only ever heard people gush about it, and I absolutely love it. If I made a list of my all time favorites, it would probably be on there. I have no idea how long the list would be, or where Black Swan would land... But dammit, I just love that movie.
It’s an amazing film with a lot of layers. Aronofsky is not capable of making “bad” movies - weird, yes. Philosophically and intellectually challenging, yes. Opinions are opinions, but this guy calling the story and concepts of Black Swan “MST3K level” was really baffling.
Prometheus is one of the best looking, most breathtaking movies ever made. It really is incredible, and the storyline is actually much better than it's sometimes given credit for.
Wow what a list. I have never seen Cinderella Man so that may be my first watch tonight. And then I have marked many more for some re-watches. RRR (mind blowing), Dune, Gladiator, The Bad Batch, Love and Monsters, and a few more (possibly Spinderman Across etc. (which is what I call a "cartoon"), as your review has me intrigued).. Thanks DVD, my week is full.
Hey Darren. I was watching your video this morning, planning out my weekend viewing, and it dawned on me how much I appreciate your suggestions and have for ?? years. Thought I’d send a quick “thanks” for your well produced videos suggestions. Like you say, “Not all of these are for everyone” but you do help me stretch my viewing experience. Anyway, thanks.
Hat tip for including Love & Monsters, our family is all about the teen sci-fi flicks, and this one the whole family loved enough to watch and rewatch during lockdown.
You called it so right on Elysian and Lucy. I enjoyed them both, but felt the story, character, and film had so much more potential. Spider-Man, Prometheus, and Gladiator are so great they earned the right to be bought in UHD and are in my permanent collection. Thanks for the list, found some new movies to check out.
Much love brother: thought I was the a-hole for not loving Black Swan as much as I should. Thanks for paying love to Prometheus, which besides the fact that lateral movement is a thing, is a great "non-Alien" reflection of post humanism (though ex-machina is still top dog). Minor gripe, though I understand why it must be done: Dredd vs. The Raid? Ya, both cop vs. tower movies but then let's add Die Hard (which in that criteria trumps both, though open to debate).
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. All Quiet on the Western Front and L.A. Confidential are my favourites. Your presentation was fantastic. Peanut is looking great. Merry Christmas to you and family 🎄🎄🎄
I LOVE Darren's recommendations! I've found so many movies I love through this channel. I haven't missed an episode since I joined probably at least a year and half ago now.
Ha! I just did a rewatch of Gladiator and L.A. Confidential before this list. Both excellent. Really pleasantly surprised how good the latter is and has held up. Hadn't seen it since it first came out on VHS!
Did Darren say he got an early Christmas gift? If you wanna test out your new system probably my favorite to watch on my 13 channel 77 oled is Tron Legacy. The daft punk sound track is second to none. Outstanding. Nit sure if you even had Tron on any of your lists.
I really loved The Bad Batch when I saw it a few years ago, based on the director's previous film "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night". One of those movies where the advice is to just go in with no knowledge and let it blossom before you.
Still waiting for someone to explain what's so bad about Prometheus. Nobody can because there's nothing wrong with it. You can disagree all you want but this movie is almost as good as Alien and way better than Aliens!
Hello there. Newer subscriber. Have watched a few of your recommendations over recent weeks with good results I like your taste/take on films. This list is solid, but if I can have an opinion, I would have put Lucy higher on the list. The ending was weird but the ride was so damn good.

Cinderella Man is my favourite movie, my Son turned 15 this year I wanted to watch this movie with my Son and we did he liked it but I will make him watch this movie after 5 years few more times till he turn 40 so he feels the depth in the Boxer played by Russell Crowe. Fighter But still humble poor from pockets but Super Rich In character Emotional Father but Honest Man. That’s I learned from this movie. This movie have always been with me someway or other. It’s a good movie must watch once. 🙏🏽

This list is a great combination of different styles and types and it works. It's obviously not going to appeal to everyone, but pretty much every film has the right stuff in its own way. I will be watching Dune in about 30 seconds, lol.
As a guy with zero interest in marvel/ dc/ comic book movies I gave the suicide squad a chance on dvds recommendation and what a treat! Also, would be interested in some details on your home theater setup
Appreciate your opinions, breathtaking? Nope. Papillon was memorable and worth re-watching. Only 2 of these 20 have storylines that are worth re-watching, in my op. Thanks man
You lost me at Prometheus: 1. As Tarantino said: they gets uh uh what tiny beautiful: IT IS A SPACE COBRA! 2. They run from the crashing ship trying to OUTRUN IT with a plenty of space to run perpendicular to it and get out of its path. Prometheus is a complete train wreck that is not believable not by a 13 year old. It is the prime example of a series that passed its expiration day, it is a monument to the lack of creativity in Hollywood and the need for executives to milk franchises dry until the public begin to puke only by hearing. It makes Jar Jar Binks look awesome.
Length was my only problem with across the Spiderverse. Outside of that it was the closest thing to a perfect movie ive seen in years. Really wish it was 15 minutes shorter and wouldve been a chefs kiss.

Wow a very good list, but I’m not so sure about Super Mario Brothers and Spider-man: across. I find multiverse movies annoying.
Suggestion: Next time segment out your video cause a lot of people don’t sit here and watch a whole 20 min video. Would rather have bookmarks so I can skip through it. Thanks!
No love for Nimona?

I’m proud to say that I actually supported Dredd by going to the theater to see it rather than waiting for it to be sent by Netflix.
Agreed. I still think Dredd, is fantastic.
Check out Raid Redemption * very, very similar...but both good
Wasn’t there a suggestion that the sequel to Dredd would now be a tv series?
@@Heimdall6581 I hadn't heard that, but if it could keep up with the film, I'd be excited. The film's Dredd and Anderson were so excellent together, might be a letdown assuming there'd be new cast.
L. A. Confidential is such a good watch. Killer cast, and pretty cool window into the good, bad and ugly of early 50’s Hollywood.
Omg THANK YOU! I've been waiting for years for anyone to recognize Spectral. It's a decent story that's well acted and cried for another film. Not a continuation of the same story but another story involving the main character.
Spot on with the lists, man! "Love and Monsters" is so fun. And "Bad Batch" is CRAZY (in a good way).
Dune is such an amazing story, and the latest cinematic adaptation is the first to approach the visuals in my head from reading the book three times
Sucker Punch is also a dazzling visual feast. Some hate the movie, some love it. I'm a fan.
I was stoked for that movie until the very end. I was disappointed.
Black Swan will always be one of my favorite films because of Mathew Libatiques cinematography
L.A. Confidential is not talked about enough. Easily in my top 3 of all time !
Thanks for mentioning Love and Monsters. I had the chance to work on it (leading the whole animation team) and nice to see somebody acknowledging its existence. It kinda flew under the radar...
I thought Lucy was a great movie! One of Scarletts' finest!
I watched Love and Monsters last week. I absolutely loved and have recommended it to all my friends
I couldn’t agree with you more regarding the majority of these films…I absolutely ❤ Love and Monsters and The Suicide Squad. Your reviews are always spot on.
I missed the alert, but not the video!!! 👍 thanks again!! :)
Thanks for the List and the Video 😀
Had no idea opinions were so mixed about Black Swan! I've only ever heard people gush about it, and I absolutely love it. If I made a list of my all time favorites, it would probably be on there. Cinderella man is truly one of the best sports movies ever, but "Mystery, Alaska" is the BEST...and both have Russell Crowe. Can't go wrong!
Prometheus is one of the best looking, most breathtaking movies ever made. It really is incredible, and the storyline is actually much better than it's sometimes given credit for.
but---- it is not really an Alien movie

Classic.
The Bad Batch is a fantastic movie. Patient, intense, weird, captivating. It was a surprise.
You give your dog human meat ?!
Kidding. Great vid as always. I might even go back to Netflix for a month or so...
For anyone who liked RRR, check out Baahubali and Baahubali 2 from the same director.
The production values are top-notch.
I m frm india, I agree, babhubali 2 is much better then rrr
Hey, Darren! I loved Spectral and wish they made a sequel to it as well. It reminds me of "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within."
Much love brother: thought I was the a-hole for not loving Black Swan as much as I should.

The actors in RRR worked their asses off. It has EVERYTHING. Awesome movie.
Its not really a teen movie more like a movie for young adults because it's 7 yrs after it all started. #10 is in my top 5, I LOVE THIS MOVIE 🤗 💯
This is a wonderful list! I also can’t give enough votes to watch RRR…visually stunning and a fun watch 😏
RRR is easily the most surprising, outrageous, and entertaining movies I’ve seen recently. Seriously.
India will rise again as the golden bird like in the past
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. All Quiet on the Western Front and L.A. Confidential are my favourites. Your presentation was fantastic. Peanut is looking great. Merry Christmas to you and family 🎄🎄🎄
Thanks! I did not watch many of these movies for one reason or another, but you have convinced me to see them.
great video and no complaints on your selections, can't wait for the next list.

Nice shirt!!! Im guessing that you are Dude abides customer?? Lol I love that place!! 💨💨
"...a mix between Black Hawk Down, and...Scooby Doo!"...lol. I don't know that such words have ever been spoken together. Great list here!
Always get a lot out of your recommendations. Happy subscriber!
I thought Lucy was top shelf good!
i appreciate when reviewers are honest about some films not being for everyone
TY for your posts! Thrilled I "found you" b/c we must have similar taste in films & I have a hard time finding good things to watch.

Love and Monsters! The movie you didn't know you needed. Loved it.
Spectral had a great narrative and concept for a movie. Well directed and executed. Great to watch.
Always good reviews and recommendations. Thanks.
I really loved The Bad Batch when I saw it a few years ago, based on the director's previous film "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night". One of those movies where the advice is to just go in with no knowledge and let it blossom before you.
Agreed ❤️ "A girl ... at night" gets 👍👍 from me as well.
Same! Definitely wastes no time grabbing you and pulling you all the way in.
The Bad Batch and Dune are AWESOME! Also really like Elysium, Lucy, Columbiana, Dredd, Catch Me If You Can, L.A. Confidential, Gladiator,
The fight scenes in Cinderella Man are epic.
Lucy is great if you only use 10% of your brain to watch it
Now I want to know about Darren's home theater setup, so I can know how jealous I should be.
Still waiting for someone to explain what's so bad about Prometheus. Nobody can because there's nothing wrong with it. You can disagree all you want but this movie is almost as good as Alien and way better than Aliens!
The Oh Yeah, That Was A Good Movie podcast did a fun episode where they battled out The Raid vs Dredd. Both excellent movies.
Great channel and great t-shirt...
Hello there. Newer subscriber. Have watched a few of your recommendations over recent weeks with good results I like your taste/take on films. This list is solid, but if I can have an opinion, I would have put Lucy higher on the list. The ending was weird but the ride was so damn good.
I would have put Gunpowder Milkshake on the list, but nice list nonetheless.
You caught a cold dude? Get well soon and keep these quality vids coming.
I watched Gran Turismo last night , it was good.
(In the Extreme Minority but) I'll go Columbiana and Dredd for Favourites out of this list. Also while all have been around for quite some time Polar, Get In (Not a typo; also called Furie), Living, and Lady Chatterley's Lover are also 👍👏.
Definitely.✌️
Polar. Which lady, the original French version.
@Maya_Pinion
Fair Enough. Good Question.
If understanding correctly am thinking of a (made for) Netflix film with aforementioned tilte. Came Out in 2022; one of that years (Underrated) BEST. Ironically though; while it seems there's been multiple depictions of this Story - 2022's is Directed by a Mrs/Madam from France (Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre). And It Shows 🤌🎨👙🎨 👏👏👏
(I Don't believe it's the original version though. However it's a Gorgeous, Beautiful (re)telling of said story.)
Cinderella Man is top tier. One of my favorite movies ever.
It flopped at the box office so badly, I recall they had an official nationwide marketing campaign offering your money back if you didn't like it.
Arcane. I just got hip to it and it blows my mind with the visual art. If you haven't seen it you need to check it.
I've seen about half the movies on your list, all good picks. Haven't seen Love and Monsters so am pulling that up now - who can resist big bugs?
where'd you get that tee from....niice :)

This list is a great combination of different styles and types and it works. It's obviously not going to appeal to everyone, but pretty much every film has the right stuff in its own way. I will be watching Dune in about 30 seconds, lol.
The Darkest Hour 2011 is one of my favorite visual movies.
Another visually appealing Indian film is Tummbad. Really impressive that film.
what is the name of the last soundtrack?
i'm truing to find for some time now lol
I really enjoyed The Bad Batch and Lucy and would highly recommend.
SPECTRAL is a KICKASS movie! I don't like foreign movies but this one is GOOD!
All Quite on the Western Front - deserves 7 Oscars
Colombiana was supposed to be the story for Mathilda in Leon the Professional.
Sounds like someone was up all night watching movies. A little lower on usual energy ;) Still my go to for cable shows! Going after Elysium and RRR.
RRR just didn't care about the characters, couldn't get thru Act 1. Felt redundant
As for Love & Monsters Vol. 1, absolutely wonderful! 💯
"Spectral" was intended as a theatrical release but was bought by Netflix instead.
5:00, Colombiana is a kickass movie!
I liked the Mario Brothers movie with Bob Hoskins. Great, fun film.
nice list
spectral has definate shades of Final Fantasy:The spirit within - specially the protaganists ripping the "spirits" out of the soldiers.
T.E.A.M … together enjoy a movie
Spectral is one of my favorites
I'd love to hear what you think about the new Godzilla movie out.
Dune deserves the top spot. Fantastic film.
Spectral was indeed really great!
The Director of Spectral has not made another film film either, which is a shame because it’s a great action film.
