In hindsight, Mantilla's whole character encapsulates the entire show's whole thing; a super-intelligent, capable person who spent so much time and resources on an overly-complicated plan for such a simple end-goal that she winds up getting anyway, fully aware of how crazy it looks like to an outsider, and while it fundamentally effects a lot of people's lives along the way, the ending is ultimately of little consequence. That's not me bashing her; I think it's genius.
Personally, I think it is essentially the same thing explained back when talking about the existence of The Guild in the first place. The Guild is in place in the first place to keep Villains in line. Without order, every mad scientist would just create a doomsday weapon and instantly kill every person in their way. Arch is essentially that exact thing The Guild tried to avoid, but the mad scientist pretty much made a entire organization for the exact thing they were trying to prevent.
And this is how we know she is indeed the boys mother. Hank has her can do attitude and ability to make overly complicated elaborate plan that work out in the end. Reminds me of one of Hank’s business venture, HankCo. Except all grown up.
I so wish we'd had a season 8. Don't get me wrong, the film's good (if you haven't watched it yet go do it! It's worth it), but I feel like Arch would have been fleshed out and explored more across a season's worth of content rather than an hour and twenty minutes.
