They did a great job with that too. Looking back the only characters we see with that shade of red hair are always members of the Venture family.
Especially if you think about the theory that Rusty and Malcolm are failed clones of Jonas. So if they are technically the same person or almost the same person. You always see the worst of yourself in that person. So maybe that's why?

Yeah, then there’s the whole thing about Malcom’s (the monarchs) mom was inseminated by Jonas Venture in a weird, possibly rapey type way. He might not know about it, but it would definitely throw a can of gas to the fire

I think the best thing about this show is that who the title "Venture Brothers" is referring to changes multiple times over the series.

T Bone the time between seasons and the ability of the writers to keep continuity is amazing. There are shows that come out with a new season each year that have harder times keeping things straight.

The Venture Bros is like when you were a kid and made a long-term plot with all your toys alongside your friends, and you keep adding and adding lore and characters until you've made a whole mythology.
What I love about this show is that it starts out being satirical and ends up being really creative and epic

I honestly don’t know how this show doesn’t have more recognition than it has. I’ve been watching AS for decades and never really paid this show much attention until this past year or so and am completely obsessed!! The creativity, consistency with storylines, and humor is phenomenal!
The problem is that it got stucked only in adult swim. Not sure if it was on netflix on US, but Rick and Morty got there and lots of people watched it, also on some countries Adult Swim wasn't available, in my country they only dubbed 2 seasons and after that the show was lost forever until they got it to HBO max
I still remember when we all thought the show wouldn't be renewed after season 4 but it survived. Now, it has been cancelled. This show formed a big part of my life and i'm so sad to see it go but i'll always remember as one of the best animated shows ever.

This show really fucked me up. Not that it was emotional or anything, just there were so few voice actors that after watching it for long periods of time, whenever I heard someone irl who sounded like someone else I knew, I'd just think "oh, they have the same voice actor"
That was, uh, intense. Intensely recollective. I feel like I just crammed for a test, but I'm all ready now.
Unlike any show I've watched, I love every character on this one.
Seasons 1-3 grew to become the best written show on TV. Season 4 felt like it got a little bogged down in the complexity of three seasons of details piling up, but they may have shed some of that baggage, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with season 5.

& Archie comic's, The whole style of the flashbacks & the way they dress is old school....
Nothing directly but it's the perfect twist. Rusty and the Monarch have the same hair and nose. Rusty's mother was never mentioned, and I just feel that's the way the series will wrap up.
Damn I know these tropes so well. Grew up with Johnny Quest as a child But this is done JUST RIGHT.
Years later and I was expecting a half assed recap that just takes random clips and hopes that you seen the show or you can understand what is going on just from the scenes alone. Instead I got a original Voice Over from the 21 actually explaining things. Good on you guys

I'm ANGRY. Angry until they bring this show back. It was BY FAR the BEST cartoon for adults, EVER! It makes the Simpsons and Family Guy like, worthless.
+Bee ToTheRii the Simpsons made the Simpsons worthless. but i agree when it comes to adult cartoons i think this is the only one produced that as well as keeping constant joke quality up, has a continuity that makes sense with little to no plot holes at all. the closest to this i think is futurama which has continuity just not brought up as much.

Funny how they always show Jonas Venture as the perfect scientist when in reality he was a negligent, childish, selfish megalomaniac who quickly lost interest in anything. Turned his friend into a cyborg who saved his life but dumped him in a dumpster when he quickly lost interest in the project. Also he cared little for his son obviously.
Not to mention the friend who he turned into a cyborg (the blue morpho) yeah he was having fertility problems so he offered to make it so his wife could get pregnant and so he had an affair with her and that friend ended up being The Monarchs Dad so The Monarch is Rusty's half brother. God I wish the venture Bros could continued
Hank and Dean aren't the only Venture Bros. You could count Rusty, JJ, and the Monarch as also Venture Bros.
I doubt it. The photograph showed the Monarch's parents being there too. I'm not sure what the picture means, but its too soon to guess they're brothers.
However, one question I've been asking lately which may shed light on the whole deal--who is Rusty's mother?

thanks for the recap [AS] - been a fan since 2003-2004 back when I was a senior in High School, seems like yesterday. Unfortunately due to the seasons being so spaced out over the 2000's much of season 3/4 I have missed - although I would catch episodes here and there (Fortunately more of the major plot-lines) there is a fair amount I did not know about/missed, hopefully I won't have to wait until 2016 for season 6
I just had a thought. Is there any evidence to who killed 24, because I just had a weird idea. Could it have been killinger? He may have seen 21’s full potential, and knew 24 was the only thing keeping him from making it. It’s not like it’s unfounded for killinger to do stuff like that

This is the smartest, funniest, most convoluted show on television. It's all about epic failure, and how the underdog will ultimately get squashed unless he is incredibly stupid. Which applies to most everyone in the show. It's about the triumph of epic failure.
Basically it's about real life.

The thing that pisses me off about this show is that *IT'S SO FUCKING UNDERRATED AS FUCKING HELL!!!* This show is so good on SO MANY FUCKING LEVELS: brilliant humor, well-written characters, strong continuity, yet it gets almost no recognition as shows like Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, Futurama, South Park, Archer, Bob's Burgers, Bojack Horseman, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Steven Universe, it *PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF!!!* Don't take me for a cancerous fanboy like MLP brony, Undertale, or FNAF, I just ranting how I feel about the low appreciation for this amazing show.
I've been mad at the world since I found out it hadn't shown me this show yet.
It's Adult Swim's best and least known show, ever since it came out. Didn't understand the genius of the world they have set until season3 started airing. The show has this defense mech that wards off stupid people.
I have all these friends who think Archer is the first ever cool animated TV show. Venture brothers is far cooler. And a 6th Season is in production. Due Fall 2014
TexMex Frisky Dingo and Sealab are far better than Archer. I still think the pilot ep. of Archer is show's finest moment. After that I've tuned in and out. Venture Bros never gets old and season 6 will begin with the true finale to season 5. Can't wait.

The episode is from the new season, "SPHINX Rising." I figured you were referencing that.
In it, the Monarch discovers that in one of Rusty's old photo albums is a picture of him and the Monarch as toddlers (obviously Rusty doesn't realize that's the same guy) playing on a picnic blanket in front of compound. In the background are Jonas Venture, Sr., talking happily with the Monarch's parents. The Monarch claims not to remember that scene at all. Naturally it freaked him out.

They also forgot Dr. Henry Killinger, the Pirate Captain, Henchman 1, the ORB, General Treister launching himself into space and a bunch of other stuff, but they got the essentials down. They packed a huge amount of stuff into just 55 episodes.

This is definitely one of the top 5 animated shows produced this side of the Pacific. The depth given to even minor characters is staggering, dialogue is generally superb, and the relationships are well fleshed out and constantly evolving. The plot may be a bit disjointed at times, and they have had to do some patchwork to repair certain continuity issues. But these hiccups are easily forgivable.
When I was a kid there was a toon named Johnny quest I think that's the name, this reminds me of that, I think he traveled with his father on missions, I may be wrong but it reminds me of that. This shows funny, I love 24.
Honestly I just needed like the past 2 minutes. Season 4 had a whoooole lot I couldn't remember.
Certainly covered the main stuff, though obviously lots has to be skipped to fit 8 minutes (like the whole OSI arc and anything with side-villains). What a friggin' amazing series.

so, because I saw so many people ask what the music in the recap is, I looked it up. It's in the Volume 2 Soundtrack, named "Plucked". But it's not on RUclips, neither is any of the volume 2 soundtrack.

There is a character named, "Dickens", who was a reporter working with Jonas Venture. He looks, and sounds like Dean venture. There were a hanky panky going around in the Jonas group at the time. Is Dean the son on Dickens? You have to wonder, and they do stuff like that in the show. You only see, "Dickens" for three seconds in the Museum episode. You have to watch for it.

That's on purpose. TV shows have seasons split up among the dozen different sites that stream these shows, often at a membership price. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon... the seasons are distributed to prevent one from having a monopoly on a license at a time, and to promote the show more - it creates incentive to sign up to these other sites to watch season two or to get the second half of season three.
Or something like that, anyways.
The original Hank and Dean have a mother. She was put in the nut house sometime after the boys were born. She was a very capable bodyguard and I believe she had assassin training so its anyones guess when she'll break out again and between her obsession with Rusty and the possible knowledge of her childrens deaths and cloning makes her seem even crazier than she actually is.
