Man, that Sega trash-talk to Nintendo reminds me of how fierce the console wars were back then. There was slandering and all that stuff, but now it's much more tame. Just imagine if Iwata, at the end of a Nintendo Direct, just said, "Now we would like to *directly* say to Sony to suck on our handheld sales". I would love that.
Nintendo's never really had a grudge with sony though. I heard the president (or someone else in sony correct me if I'm wrong) loves Nintendo & has a Wii U
Zephyare Not quite. It helps keep game developers in check with their content. They REALLY want to avoid that MA rating due to so many game sellers refusing to sell MA titles, so as bloody and adult-ish today's games have progressed, they aren't going as far as I'm sure they could thanks to this ratings gig.
lunayoshi I think where it's ignored is primarily parents and media. Remember the shit that always pops up about kids playing adult games? The games all clearly show what age they're appropriate for but parents/the media always kick up a fucking stink.
BlazinVoid I suppose your right. I saw a Japanese commercial that involved a man, a women, red and white paint, a strange sex position, and it turned out to be a commercial on Salmon(?) Nigiri Sushi; pretty strange but pretty subtle, I guess.
OOOOOH Sega Channel!! That takes me back, man. I was introduced to Gun Star Heroes, Shining Force, General Chaos, and Streets of Rage, thanks to that wonderful service. I absolutely LOVED the fact that I got to play games that you couldn't find in store (in America) like Pulseman, The Wily Wars, and Golden Axe 3. I kept playing Sega Channel, even when the next gen of consoles were out, and owned, until that dreaded day...turned on the Sega...watched Sonic start up the service...then nothing :'( That was actually the last time I played the Genesis.
I actually remember having the Sega channel. It's amazing how far ahead of its time it was. And I do wonder what Sega would be up to right now if they were still in the console races.
To be fair Sonic 3 was about the same price on release day. Both games are from 1994. But I think generally both the Megadrive/Genesis and it's games were cheaper.
Joey JoJo I instantly thought of Phantasy Star 4 as well. Otherwise I only recall FFIII (VI) and Chrono Trigger being $70. I would have remembered if DKC cost that much.
It's also important to note that the bias in this is incredibly strong. A faster/stronger processor was incredibly crucial in those days and allowed the Genesis to do stuff the SNES simply had no chance of doing.

Yeah, it wasn't worth it either. Yoshi's Island came out so much better, and stuff like Chrono Trigger was well worth $85. Phantasy Star IV retailed for $99 at most places that actually stocked it.
SotNist ...I had no idea SNES games were so much money back then. Shucks, they would have come out waaaay more expensive than today's titles, especially if you account inflation in! And my family has a huge cardboard box full of them back home!
ClefairyRox most of the early first party Nintendo stuff was around $50. The more megabytes on a cartridge (or if it required a special chip), the more it would cost. The RPG's were usually most expensive, being the biggest games. Some stuff like Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest was only $30 at release, though. N64 games had similar pricing at $60-75. NeoGeo AES games were up to $300 since the arcade-perfect cartridges were hundreds of megabytes (compared to 32MB for Chrono Trigger on SNES, 48MB for Super Street Fighter 2 on Genesis)
HalfmoonHex To be fair, those commercials didn't actually tell you anything about the Saturn. You'd just apparently get your ass kicked if you didn't play one. :-P
***** They are subtle. Just because the commercials can be insane doesn't mean they aren't subtle. Most commercials won't tell you what the product is until the very end. They probably do this because that holds your attention.
That rivalry between Nintendo and Sega eventually led to the creation of the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series, as well as Sonic appearing in the SSB games
Dragonova - Meanwhile in Japan's past, where Sega's commercials _there_ had Segata Sanshiro, the only known counter to Chuck Norris, who would go around and beat people up if they weren't playing on a Sega Saturn...
Dragonova - Subtle as in it doesn't explicitly tell you why their console is better, instead preferring to show you through staged skits and such like the above mentioned Segata Sanshiro.
When I read the title I was like "...Feat. Boku No.." "...please no Pico, please no Pico". Thank goodness, it wasn't Pico, only Eruption. However, "Boku no Pico no Eruption" would have been even worse. You don't want to know what that would mean xD
This is a little biased. The SVP chip was released in one game and the processor speed of the Sega Genesis meant that the Genesis could do 3D polygons on the processor without additional chips. That was what Sega was getting at.
Fun fact, the person regarded as the 'grip' for the film sequences in Night Trap was a certain Jim Moriarty. Yup, the grip, one of the more background jobs, of a game that would change gaming forever. Jim Moriarty.
3:15 where's that info from, that the svp chip wasn't profitable for them? 4:17 but things like max resolution there is misleading, since that mode on SNES was limiting to the palette and very few games used it during gameplay. Looking at multiplatform games, they were pretty much always higher resolution on the genesis/mega drive. Max sprites as well since there was generally more slowdown on SNES when you had a bunch of sprites on screen.
Alianger Yeah, people like to say that sonic could easily run on the snes, but there's a reason Sega takes so much care in keeping sonic games running at a consistently high frame rate: do you really want ANY sort of significant frame drop from multiple sprites loading when you're playing a game about lightning quick reflexes?
It was a good decision to keep the "SEGA!" slogan. Of all the gaming system, or gaming related catchphrases at all, that one I remember the most throughout the years.
VerdantAssassin The first game I ever played was Sonic, in 2001. All I'd played before that were point and click edutainment games. I mean, they weren't AWFUL, but they still weren't exactly games in the sense that I'd call gaming.
Guys, both the Sega Meganet and Sega Channel launched YEARS before the SNES Satellaview. I don't know why there's always this huge Nintendo bias Give me more info about Sega that isn't super common like the commercials. Don't do what you did in this episode and constantly mention Nintendo. Leave that for a DYKG Console wars episode. Be more like Daniel Ibbertson and strafefox give me some information that isn't common knowledge. These guys really do their research and both deserve more attention
Marcel Weber Why are all the big RUclipsrs always so damn Nintendo focused? The older I get, the more I notice. There's nothing wrong with not playing games from other companies due to time or money reasons, but if you're going to provide info on things then don't have such a clear bias on which one you like more.
funny how we have the esrb rating made for parents but they still don't look at it and will still buy mature games for there 10 year olds. then complain about how video games are too violent.
I'm just getting into this channel, but I was instantly won over by the Shinobi tune in the opening. I used to love it!...more than the game, actually.
Jeez, looking at the specs at 4:20, its like the SNES was a Miata (a sports car with everything going for it, but a comparatively undersized engine, though true sports cars are about the handling, not the speed) and the Genesis is a Pinto that someone though they should turbocharge.
awesomecat Yeah. I mean, I'm biased since it was my first console (...in 2004, a hand me down from my parents), but even if sound quality and graphics were limited, the Genesis had one heck of a bass selection, and their flagship series put that to incredible use (probably why those songs are so popular in mashups). Also, while people try and point out that you could still run Sonic on a Snes with just a bit of frame drop when multiple sprites are loaded on screen, remember what game you're playing: SONIC. Aka, you are moving incredibly fast (loading many sprites very quickly), and then you deal with the dropped frames (in a game that already gives you precious few frames to pull off your speedrunning tactics. No really, that was the design principle of the game. Already knowing the early levels, and using that to find shortcuts and all around pull of awesome moves)
4:16 Did You Know Gaming is *biased ?* The SNES' CPU makes two of those advantages completely useless. The SNES has more hardware sprites, but due to the CPU it cannot move as nearly as much sprites as the MegaDrive. The SNES' max resolution is completely useless as well, too slow for fast graphics and only 16 colors, infact the SNES was almost always locked in 256x224 while the MegaDrive was almost always at *320x240*. This is a huge difference with platformers, as the SNES had to move the view constantly ahead were the character was moving, so you always were blind behind you and had a more spastic view in general.
Only had 2 games on the Genesis at my house while my half-brother had like 20+ games on his Super Nintendo. I was only 3-4 years old but those games were the greatest thing ever
Sega Channel was so awesome, didn't have to bother going to Blockbuster or other places to look for games to rent, SC always had a good selection of games to play.
So as long as you are telling the truth, you can use other companies names in your ads. It may put the other company down, but really they are giving them free advertising when they throw their name in there. There are sometimes some legal stuff mixed in there but it's a little complicated.
BigDippas yep. They tried to team up with Nintendo to make what would have been a defacto standard pre-ESRB but Nintendo said no. They basically threw Sega under the bus during the whole video game witch hunt in congress at the time and said unlike Sega, Nintendo has standards and would never release such a deplorable game. So since only Sega was on board it failed and eventually the ESRB was formed instead to head off Congress forming a government ratings board.
Steve Rogers it's so great to learn all this stuff haha good for sega and I guess nintendo as well for making this part of gaming history pretty damn interesting. Imagine if we had a government ratings board, fuck we would be like Australia.
BigDippas It's actually a repeat of history because the exact same thing happened to movies and that's why we have the MPAA. Though the MPAA is almost as bad as a government board since it is a wholly private and unaccountable entity, the studios, despite being members, have zero control over how it makes decisions. Fun fact if a director contests the rating they get, the review board for some unexplainable reason will have a catholic and protestant priest on it. There is a good docu about them called 'this film not yet rated'.
The spec list showed isn't correct. The CPU speed, max colors, and on screen colors are correct, but the resolution, sprites and sprite size isn't entirely true, and a bit complicated. The max resolution for the Genesis is 320x448, and SNES is 512x448. The default resolution however, for the Genesis is 320x224, and SNES is 256x224. This is important, because the SNES could not use it's high res mode without major problems. For example, when the SNES is in hi res mode, it can only have 16 colors onscreen, and the sprites are stretched, since this mode only affects the backgrounds, plus, the SNES chugs hard when in this mode (only one game, RPM racing fully used this mode). The CPU just can't handle it well. The Genesis actually can use it's high res mode fine, as seen in Sonic 2's 2 player mode. The topic of sprites now. The Genesis can go up to 80, but the SNES again, can't handle 128 because of the CPU. Technically, it can go that high, if you basically have nothing going on, and have really small sprites though. Sprite size on the Genesis is actually 32x32, and can stack to make bigger sprites, such as 64x64, and bigger still. The SNES can indeed do 64x64 by default, but keep in mind that the SNES can use only 2 sprite sizes at a time, so if there is a 16x16 and a 32x32 sprite, it will have to wait to be able to initiate a new sprite size, so, if you absolutely need a 64x64 size while the 16x16 and 32x32 is initiated for example, you would have to stack 32x32 sprites to make that size, and this is something the SNES can't handle well at all. See, very complicated stuff. It's important to note the things that are reasonable instead. I would think a better list would look like this: Speed: Genesis - 7.6MHz SNES - 3.6MHz Max colors: Genesis - 512 SNES - 32,768 On screen colors: Genesis - 64 (+ more with shadow/highlight mode) SNES - 256 Resolution: Genesis - 320x224 SNES - 256x224 Sprites on screen: Genesis - 80 SNES 128 (around 32-48 seems more reasonable for SNES) Sprite Size: Genesis - 32x32 SNES - 64x64
As a Genesis owner and one who's played a fair amount of SNES games growing up, who also are a huge Sonic fan, I'm gonna have to say that Sega back then only won the HYPE whereas Nintendo did win with overall quality - that was Sega's peak. Sega opened a lot of doors for us. Some may feel Sega didn't get the credit it deserved for it, but that's mostly their own fault. Sometimes they were ahead of their time but Sega REALLY wouldn't have earned the credibility had it not been trying to compete with Nintendo. Sony pretty much replaced Sega after the PS1, and then Sega tried to take the Nintendo route with even less 3rd party support than they had before and focusing on making new IPs rather than the ones they already had all with no money. The industry has changed. I think a fair amount of Sega fans are just waiting for the day Nintendo buys their company, but I think Nintendo's secretly thinking about it in their minds about what they'd do with all of those IP's and goes, "I don't want that shit. *picks up Sonic* ... but you're coming with me."
Do the Sega Saturn and explain how the CEO of Sega America didn't bring Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to America because he believed Americans would have no interest in the game.
BlazeHeatnix - Definitive Dubs Really? But even still dumb move SEGA look just because the majority like one thing doesn't mean all like the same thing I hate that when Japanese companies think we all like FPS's when in fact I think of them as one of my least favorite genres
Personally, I think the SNES and the Genesis (along with the Turbograx-16 and Neo Geo) are both great consoles. But with the Genesis, I have a much more nostalgic connection to and it has more of the types of games that I want to play (beat-em-ups, run 'n gun shooters, and shmups. Not to mention of quirky, off-beat titles like Toejam & Earl and Haunting: Starring Polterguy)
4:18 Surprised the sound chips aren't listed, since it's another area the SNES was superior, along with having more layers they could work with, including the famous mode 7. Besides that, it should be pointed out that comparing the numbers like that is misleading. The SNES rarely used that max resolution beyond title screens and credit scrolls. In game, the Genesis was higher (see Mortal Kombat 1 for comparison). The SNES could scale sprites which allowed it to have a 64x64 sprite size, but the Genesis could handle a wider variety of sprite sizes. Lastly, the max sprite count on SNES is limited by the speed. Genesis could usually handle more sprites on screen with less slow down.
Not quite true. They worked completely different, and neither could replicate the other. The Mega Drives chip had a really harsh and pitched sound wich was bad for ambient music, but rock and metal like tracks were great - just listen to Thunderforce 4. The SNES on the other hand sounded muffled and like a bathroom in comparrison, but it was more pleasing to the ear on ambient soundtracks with melodic parts. So, both had their advantages - neither of them was able to generate "realistic sound" though...
It sucks that I was born just slightly after the Genesis' heyday. I missed out on alot of good games aswell as some even on the SNES (though I had a SNES in my household when I was born.)
Man that rating system SURE helps huh? There totally arent stupid parents who dont look at what they are buying for there children. It never happens anymore.
I love this, great work on the video. When I was younger I didn't know any of this stuff. Back then I was more about the games then the gaming news but now I'm finding this info to be fascinating.
Mega Drive is the best Sega goddess. Now I had both a Super Nintendo and a Genesis, but I clearly spent hell of a lot more time on on the Genesis. Sega knew how to advertise their games back in the day.. If only Phantasy Star Online 2 could get the fudge over to the west, dammit all, that was the one Sega game I wanted to play the most for a long time, but that sure as hell ain't happening,
Nintendo at least in terms of console was always a United States item, most of Europe & the UK in the 90's were Sega. Interesting to look at these facts years on.
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!! 1:51 So the Genesis was the first console to feature online connectivity, even though the service was taken out a year later? Please, someone help me with this info, I have a research project to do about video games, and I need someone to clarify me about this. Thank you
Sega Saturn also had netplay. NetLink was the cartridge that allowed it. Virtual On, Daytona Championship Edition, and Bomberman where the titles that I know off the top of my head that used the service.
Quote actually snes since A. it came out first and B. according to the video the snes is better in every way except for storage. so in conclusion snesis what genesisn't.
0:22 That always bothers me a lot "Mega Drive outside North America" whenever I see someone talking about the name "Sega Genesis" they're always like "Yeah, the console was called Mega Drive everywhere except North America" well what about Central and South America?? The console was called Genesis in there too you know (Except Brazil) so why it's always just North America? I guess the reason is "who cares about shitty Central and South America" right?? After all USA is the only important part of America right?? I bet Canada and Mexico are just mentioned as part of "North America" just because they're "lucky enough" to be neighbours of USA, so USA can't ignore them like they do with the rest of the countries.
Jacktrack 7 Central and south america get the exports from the US, so technically, in the realm of videogames, they are considered NA, as that was the intended target, They all use NTSC
The focus on North America probably has to do with the fact that Sega of America was based in the USA, and the decisions they made for that region (to rename the console Genesis) were followed by other localizers.
Jacktrack 7 I'm pretty sure unless we suddenly split nintendo/Sega of America into North and South America, i'm pretty sure all americas are included in there. Plus, I think that may or may not lead to some really interesting shit to be pulled... Probably like South America getting Mother 3 in English while we in north america have to deal with Reggie (i think thats his name?) who seems against the idea like America was against Russia in the cold war.
Spencer Durette Now that you mention it, i would be really cool if NOA split into North and South America. It's unfair that Mexico has eShop and we don't
Man, that Sega trash-talk to Nintendo reminds me of how fierce the console wars were back then. There was slandering and all that stuff, but now it's much more tame. Nintendo's never really had a grudge with sony though. I heard the president (or someone else in sony correct me if I'm wrong) loves Nintendo & has a Wii U
TheAlexJ Yeah the president has stated he has like 3 Wii Us because he wants Nintendo to succeed. The console wars nowadays are more created by fans.
Iwata would look like a damn fool because the PS4 is currently the best selling console now.
TheAlexJ Sony Fired Kevin Butler fot playing a Wii in a bridge stone commercial. I think most people didn't even know it was him.
Haedox I think its also the companies specially when sony did the presentation of how to play used games on the PS4
Awesome episode! Looking forward to doing an episode soon, keep it up! :)

Whoops, that's what I meant, yep.
lunayoshi I think where it's ignored is primarily parents and media. Remember the shit that always pops up about kids playing adult games? The games all clearly show what age they're appropriate for but parents/the media always kick up a fucking stink.
Zephyare Good news is that means parents only have themselves to blame when they get their kids GTA
5:12 "More SUBTLE advertisment"!? The man is swimming in air! SWIMMING in AIR!!!
Tyler Pierce Japan commercials don't involve yelling or (Micheal Bay level) explosions or things going fast.

Nintendo may have revived the video game industry, but it seems that Sega helped push it forward.
Well the Dreamcast did help create the Xbox we know today
Way to go Boku! Great job!
$69.99 for a game! Man, I'm never complaining about the modern video game industry again!
With inflation, that would be about $120.
Daniel Meagher Phantasy Star 4 was 100 dollars at launch

It's also important to note that the bias in this is incredibly strong. A faster/stronger processor was incredibly crucial in those days and allowed the Genesis to do stuff the SNES simply had no chance of doing.
Nintendo fanboys say what you will about the Genesis, but their marketing strategy was absolutely brilliant.
noisyturtle Of course, I mean Japanese Chuck Norris beating up people for not playing on a Sega console
noisyturtle Slinging dirt at Nintendo was a dick move though. As far as I know, Nintendo never shot back.
As much as I love their adverts I have to agree
nico641 They did indirectly in their games at times.

Yeah, I paid 90 bucks for MKIII Ultimate at Toys R Us on SNES. Wild.
Makes sense, a cd/dvd/bluray is nothing. Direct Download is nothing. Cartridge is quite a bit of hardware.
70 bucks isnt shit...try 250 for a neo geo game.
japander Please tell me, you're fucking joking. They could not have sold Neo Geo games for $250!
Did you just say that Japanese advertisements are subtle?
***** Tell that To Segata Shanshiro

This is a little biased. The SVP chip was released in one game and the processor speed of the Sega Genesis meant that the Genesis could do 3D polygons on the processor without additional chips. That was what Sega was getting at.

Alianger
Yeah, people like to say that sonic could easily run on the snes, but there's a reason Sega takes so much care in keeping sonic games running at a consistently high frame rate: do you really want ANY sort of significant frame drop from multiple sprites loading when you're playing a game about lightning quick reflexes?
It was a good decision to keep the "SEGA!" slogan. Of all the gaming system, or gaming related catchphrases at all, that one I remember the most throughout the years.
My first pet was a Sega Genesis.
VerdantAssassin
The first game I ever played was Sonic, in 2001. All I'd played before that were point and click edutainment games. I mean, they weren't AWFUL, but they still weren't exactly games in the sense that I'd call gaming.
spindash64 First game I played was Mortal Kombat for the Genesis.
Guys, both the Sega Meganet and Sega Channel launched YEARS before the SNES Satellaview. I don't know why there's always this huge Nintendo bias
Give me more info about Sega that isn't super common like the commercials. Don't do what you did in this episode and constantly mention Nintendo. Leave that for a DYKG Console wars episode.
Be more like Daniel Ibbertson and strafefox give me some information that isn't common knowledge. These guys really do their research and both deserve more attention
MattTheCompletionist They are too lazy for that, everything they did in this damn video was compare the genesis to their beloved nintendwhatever.
Marcel Weber Why are all the big RUclipsrs always so damn Nintendo focused? The older I get, the more I notice. There's nothing wrong with not playing games from other companies due to time or money reasons, but if you're going to provide info on things then don't have such a clear bias on which one you like more.

"Japan prefers more subtle marketing?"
Tell that to the flying-banana-hands guy.
*SEGA!!!*
GENESIS DOES!
Twero Produções What nintendoesbetter.
Garen Crownguard Except for the sweet, sweet bass in the music. :-D
Twero Produções Genesis does no more.
What nintendercules!
Axle Royal U WOT
So basically, the Sega Mega Drive had an online platform (and wireless controllers) three generations before they became mainstream.
Nice.
funny how we have the esrb rating made for parents but they still don't look at it and will still buy mature games for there 10 year olds. then complain about how video games are too violent.
I know Right? I've seen 7 year old kids playing GTA V! Freakin' GTA V!
CameraRecordPlay With all do respect,GTA V isn't all that bad compare to other games that are out there
atomic747 Well, lets change it for Manhunt? Does it sound better?
Daniel Norman That's the beauty of the ESRB, it makes overprotective parents and moral guardians look like morons
***** lol so true so true.
I'm just getting into this channel, but I was instantly won over by the Shinobi tune in the opening. I used to love it!...more than the game, actually.
GOTTA GO BLAST!
"Sega Trusting there western branch" Not a phrase yo hear everyday...
Ah, no wonder most of my LPs are of Sega games.
Jeez, looking at the specs at 4:20, its like the SNES was a Miata (a sports car with everything going for it, but a comparatively undersized engine, though true sports cars are about the handling, not the speed) and the Genesis is a Pinto that someone though they should turbocharge.
i consider myself a nintendo guy, but i gotta admit, the megadrive is the shit when it comes to 16 bit consoles.
awesomecat
Yeah. Already knowing the early levels, and using that to find shortcuts and all around pull of awesome moves)
spindash64 too much word!!! just too much...
No it isnt
You had me at "I love you", Boku no Eruption.
4:16
Did You Know Gaming is *biased ?*
The SNES' CPU makes two of those advantages completely useless.
Genesis does what Nintendon't.
+Evan Johnson They sure do. Failing out of console hardware entirely.
Wii U? lol just joking
Nintendo is what genesisn't a good company
Sega Channel was so awesome, didn't have to bother going to Blockbuster or other places to look for games to rent, SC always had a good selection of games to play.
Is it legal to say other brands are worse in ads?
In America, yes.
Pointblankmos dat pic do
Julia Binarystar As long as you aren't saying out right lies, probably.
So as long as you are telling the truth, you can use other companies names in your ads. It may put the other company down, but really they are giving them free advertising when they throw their name in there. There are sometimes some legal stuff mixed in there but it's a little complicated.
Julia Binarystar Here, not anymore
Some great pelvis thrusting music at the start of this video.
So was Sega's rating system the start point to the ESRB?
BigDippas yes.
***** that's pretty damn cool haha
BigDippas
It's actually a repeat of history because the exact same thing happened to movies and that's why we have the MPAA.
5:54 It was the Sega CD port of Mortal Kombat that Congress mentioned, not the Sega Genesis port.
At first i saw Boku No Pico....
Hi gamefox!!
hey
2 million subs!? Great job DYKG!
I would think a better list would look like this:
Speed: Genesis - 7.6MHz SNES - 3.6MHz
Max colors: Genesis - 512 SNES - 32,768
On screen colors: Genesis - 64 (+ more with shadow/highlight mode) SNES - 256
Resolution: Genesis - 320x224 SNES - 256x224
Sprites on screen: Genesis - 80 SNES 128 (around 32-48 seems more reasonable for SNES)
Sprite Size: Genesis - 32x32 SNES - 64x64
The Genesis was really revolutionary, but it was all downhill from there...
I love all of these first comments. It's like the Minecraft six year olds are expecting praise. I bet they haven't even played on an actual Genesis...
I still have my ol' good sega genesis model 3, with mortal kombat 1 and Aladdin, i like soo much the mortal kombat game :D
What was the music in the intro?
*Turns on Genesis with Sonic 2 cartridge inside* SEGAAAAAA!!!!
I remember that tune more than Sonic 2 itself. lol
Happy Birthday Genesis? Or Mega drive idk....
I LOVED the SEGA Channel!
I had it from like 1996 until they closed it down in 1999.
The Mega Drive is 90's as hell.
I loved it.
Do the Sega Saturn and explain how the CEO of Sega America didn't bring Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to America because he believed Americans would have no interest in the game.
The Boulder And he was wrong because it is now to the American audience one of the best games of all time damn Sega you're a moron
Super Gamer61499 In all fairness, the Saturn version sucks.
BlazeHeatnix - Definitive Dubs Really? But even still dumb move SEGA look just because the majority like one thing doesn't mean all like the same thing I hate that when Japanese companies think we all like FPS's when in fact I think of them as one of my least favorite genres
The Boulder That's easy, Sega of Japan never understood the American market. Every time Sega of Japan over ruled Sega of America it was a disaster.
Steve Rogers And that's why it's a dumb ass move to not release the game to the U.S on the Sega Saturn.
I dont think the Snes could scale sprites in hardware. Both machines could do it in software though.
It sucks that I was born just slightly after the Genesis' heyday.
I missed out on alot of good games aswell as some even on the SNES (though I had a SNES in my household when I was born.)
Still waiting for the Persona DYKG
I found another persona fan!
Salvador Rodríguez Zender Naw, it should be a SMT DYKG.
Minato Togami Way better idea, that would cover enough for up to 3 parts.
ForeRunnerODST at least. main games, persona games, devil summoner, devil survivor.....
This feud between Sega(Genesis) vs Nintendo(snes) remind me the old times of the monday night wars of WWF vs WCW, hironically in the same time
shout out to boku no pico, the hidden gem of anime
Please no.
Leonardo Silva I dont know its sequel Boku no Pico to Chico is even better.
Fuck you. Just fuck you...
lewis beechey What about the second sequel Pico x CoCo x Chico?
mattbenz99 Theres a third one, better get the lube.
Awesome they finally got Eruption on here, great now let's get Super Game Eskimo on here
Man that rating system SURE helps huh? There totally arent stupid parents who dont look at what they are buying for there children. It never happens anymore.
4:16
You could say that...
Nintendoes what Genensis don't
I'm more of a SEGA fan.
The snes might have the 3d fx chip but the 3d are just a bunch of polygons.... It's as impressive as the Atari jaguar
(Burn)
The one thing I may love more about DYKG than DYKG itself is the variety of great gaming channels I get introduced to thanks to this channel
Sega really needs to make more than just sonic
***** They have, just no-one's ever heard of those games.
I'm talking Ri star, vector man, nights, jet set radio, Shenmue the list goes on
I don like sega or jrpgs but skies of arcadia and valkyrian chronicles were fun
***** weren't they making Rodea the Skysoldier for wii u?
***** Do you really want them to screw up more franchises?
I love this, great work on the video. When I was younger I didn't know any of this stuff. Back then I was more about the games then the gaming news but now I'm finding this info to be fascinating.
*Tales - Did You Know Gaming?*
Mega Drive is the best Sega goddess.
Now I had both a Super Nintendo and a Genesis, but I clearly spent hell of a lot more time on on the Genesis. Sega knew how to advertise their games back in the day..
If only Phantasy Star Online 2 could get the fudge over to the west, dammit all, that was the one Sega game I wanted to play the most for a long time, but that sure as hell ain't happening,
DMD00 yup
Nintendo at least in terms of console was always a United States item, most of Europe & the UK in the 90's were Sega. Interesting to look at these facts years on.
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!! 1:51 So the Genesis was the first console to feature online connectivity, even though the service was taken out a year later?
Please, someone help me with this info, I have a research project to do about video games, and I need someone to clarify me about this.
Thank you
So the XBOX was not the first console to feature online connectivity, or even the Dreamcast... Ok.
Thanx for the cheerings man!
even the Nintendo 64 had online connectivity only in Japan
Technically then, it was the super nintendo the first one, chech their super nintendo DYKG
Sega Saturn also had netplay. NetLink was the cartridge that allowed it. Virtual On, Daytona Championship Edition, and Bomberman where the titles that I know off the top of my head that used the service.
Grandpa Likeey
Then the Saturn made it a bigger thing, and the Dreamcast even had DLC!!! It was so young, taken in its prime
Did you know? The Sega Genesis was built in with a FM Synthesizer! albeit a slightly modified version.
A new DYKG video? YAY! I'm so excited I could piss my panties!
*piss*
Oh no...I'm so embarrassed! I gotta get outta here!
*cries*
***** B-but...
***** I'm sorry!
*cries*
Comment wasn't funny or clever, try again.
***** I don't wanna! I give up!
*cries*
ワイズ Pantsu.
6:16 Just look what you've done, Sega.
Obaaaaa, adorei seu canal amigo, já tem meu like e minha inscrição, show de bola.
I love the Genesis. It was my first system.
the sega genesis is the definitive 16-bit game console
Wrong!
Captain America Hydra Agent actually I'm right
Quote
No, you're left.
Captain America Hydra Agent nope
Quote actually snes since A. it came out first and B. according to the video the snes is better in every way except for storage. so in conclusion snesis what genesisn't.
Genesis Does What Nintendercules™
Bring a beer to this guy. North American people thinks that they're the center of the world
Jacktrack 7 Central and south america get the exports from the US, so technically, in the realm of videogames, they are considered NA, as that was the intended target, They all use NTSC
This was awesome! I recently made a fanmade video and I feel I did a pretty good job but I can't stand up to the editing skills of Shane ;_;
All consoles are beautiful ❤️😍 stop unrealistic console standards. Real consoles have pixels
Does the nintendo 64 count?
+Apple News IMO, it does.
+2001WindowsXP yay
Evret console has pixels. Pixels are what make the 2d and 3d models.
Man dude its a joke
You missed one crucial detail: the Genesis has Truxton.
Nintendo is what Genesisn't.
Yeah.... not as catchy
Grimrapings
Check your privilege
Jk
Dead
OH SHOTS FIRED!!!
r0AsTeD!!!!!
Indeed, Sega tried to do what only SNK Playmore finally succeeded at doing a few years later with the Neo Geo.
You people need to stop using the term 'killer app'. The Genesis is not an iPhone.
Moku killer app is actually an older term used before smart phones
ohh... well, that wasn't obvious at first.
The arcade vs Genesis clock speed probably didn't have nearly as much to do with arcade ports to the system as much as system ram and ROM space did.
