This is a subseries close to my heart. The original Dragon Warrior Monsters was my first time touching a Dragon Quest game, even if I was too young to appreciate it. Then, after playing Dragon Quest Swords on the Wii, I got into Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on the DS, and I was enthralled, so much so that, when Joker 2 came out, I descended on it like a hawk and never looked back. I was pretty heartbroken about so many later entries in the series being stuck in Japan. But then, in came Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. Oh man, that game is amazing, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone who enjoys monster taming games. Consider this comment a glowing endorsement of this underappreciated subseries.
I think my favorite part of your reviews is the "sketches" that dont overstay their welcome in the review. I think a hole alot of people fall into is balancing the funny with the serious and you have a pretty solid ability to do it. and i forone appreciate it

If you don't know audio, this is the equivalent of having a bowl of pancake batter and a preheated stove, but choosing to eat cereal straight out of the box because you did that once as a kid.
It's great to see a balanced comparison of the remake! I totally agree it's weird it had even less variety to the areas than the GBC game. And the loss of following monsters always hurts! But damn, the huge amount of monsters, the great visuals, more fleshed out lil story sequences of cameo monsters from all the future games. It's got so much good, and I just wish they hadn't sacrificed the good from the original in the process.
Amazing game and amazing video. The sprites of your team following you was such an amazing touch. Back when I emulated this, I went through the effort to get DivineGon and Gemslime. I do not blame you at all for using fast forwarding. Old sprite games are so slow compared to today. Terry's Wonderland 3D is so gorgeous to me because I am so used to playing ugly recent Pokemon games. Yo-Kai Watch on 3DS is certainly better visually. I like how you brought up even Digimon had following too.

I remember being a kid and playing the shit out of Digimon World DS and then subsequently both Dawn and Dusk. During that time i played Pokemon Emerald and then Diamond + Platinum but my monster catching ass wanted more so i went to Gamestop with my Dad and found Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on the shelf but it was in one of those cases that was white with the default gamestop logo and the game written on it in Sharpie. I played it, didn't understand anything about it and quit halfway through because i got to a Green Dragon in a castle that I killed without being able to scout it and i got super upset. I came back to it recently on an Emulator but even then i still couldn't finish it. Something about fusing and losing Monsters i liked, alongside not having interest in the barebones barely existing story made me unable to finish it. Glad to see a new Skele vid up about the series though, i heard the Monsters series got a new game on the switch but i never looked into it. My ass is still waiting for a Dawn/Dusk sequel that i don't have to shove through an emulator and fan translation for. I loved those damn games. Great vid, Skele! edit: Also could you elaborate on why you hate Cyber Sleuth? I thought it was pretty fun although i didn't finish it, i got pretty close.
The classic problem with these kinds of games having awesome soundtracks but you only ever hear the first 10 seconds haha. Also bring back Slime next time or I will commit crime.
I don't get the critisism about repetative layouts. I got this in year 2000 as a 10 year old. The random generation was amazing for the time it came out.
@@ASkeleton FF typically has a lot of variety in its OST’s - multiple battle themes, multiple area themes, etc. Torneko the Last Hope does soundtrack variety fairly well, even if it is just re-using the core idea of Torneko’s theme for the whole soundtrack, there’s plenty of iteration and different takes on his theme. Dragon Quest should try to do something similar to that, I think.
