Southwest is awesome! I haven't flown on them since around '07. I'll be flying Southwest to go up to Portland in June. I'll be happy to fly Southwest again!
@DailYxDosE: you might feel a slight drop for a second or two just as the plane begins to descend, but nothing close to a roller coaster hill. When the wheels touch the ground, there's a descent jerking motion. The most extreme feature, IMHO, is the reverse thrust which throws you forward just as takeoff throws you backward.
Cell phones are really the main concern cause of RF waves they emit. However cell phones don't always cause interference with pilot communications to the tower. If they did allow most electronics just imagine what rules would be broken on flights.
The rule exists to all electronics because it eliminates any chance of interference with critical flight instruments, electronics as a precaution. Video photography won't interfere with anything Randall. But the rule exists for a reason just like other rules. Some flight crews enforce it and others not so much.
From all the flying I have done, and thats quiet a bit, the attendents and pilot tell you to power off completely! Not sleeep mode, airplane mode etc............Completely OFF means completley OFF.
Yes that's exatly what it is but honestly in a crash I don't think taking a video with a phone is going to distract anyone. So therefor I have no problem with it.

Isn't the main logic behind it that if there is an emergency you aren't distracted?

Randall from a pilot to you, i don't really give a shit if somebody is filming a takeoff or landing, it's not going to do anything to an aircraft.
