It’s no wonder that some presidential historians have called President Carter the most intelligent U.S. president in history. Thanks for making us aware of this story, Rachel. ✌🏼
But Reagan filmed with a monkey! And did tax cuts for the rich
HISTORY OH LORD must make sure not in a book
👍🇺🇸👍
In real time, he took a beating with the public. You don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone-human nature.
And the most decent human being who ever held that office. OK, maybe Lincoln tied with him.
What an amazing man. A lifetime of service to humanity.
Just think hundreds of years from now some of those homes will still be around. With gold placks signifying Jimmy Carter President of the United States helped built it.

Some people enter politics for power and fame. A few enter to try and help the world. It's pretty clear Jimmy Carter was not in politics for power and fame. I'm a life-long atheist, but I hope that I'm wrong and President Carter gets his richly deserved time in heaven. Or perhaps he can be reincarnated many times over -- the world desperately needs more people like Jimmy Carter.
Carter didn't even take a limo to the Inauguration.. he walked.. he said the president is a servant: not a king
I Agree with you 100%
I think and feel the same way

I remember watching a TV show back in the 80's, where Jimmy Carter was wearing a tool belt, with a hammer in his hand, building houses for homeless people. Actually building the houses with his own hands, along with a crew of other volunteers. He will always be remembered for his humanity.
Habitat for Humanity.
actually building it not just holding a hammer for the cameras. you get a Warrick Dunn because of men like President Jimmy Carter.
He is still a vocal supporter of Habitat even though he can no longer help build homes.
He was hands on in building the humanity homes into his nineties. He was a quite speaker but a relentless doer.
Among numerous talents, Jimmy Carter is especially known as a talented carpenter. He's also a gifted painter (received a painting in the mail from President Carter as a gift for being a Habitat for Humanity supporter).
This man has served this country all his life. He has earned his peace eternally. ✌

As a Canadian who didn't know this story, thank you. As a young person I loved him as a leader and didn't understand why the US did not appreciate him. Know I feel even more strongly that he is one of the best men you have ever elected.
Well, Jimmie Carter was an honest man who cared about everybody no matter their race, socioeconomic statis or age. Or country. I always have thought there was something really strange about the Iranian hostages being released as soon as Reagan was sworn in. That stunk to high heaven.
Because we want Presidents who will bomb people or send troops into conflict when something bad happens. Even though it seems Jimmy was applying peace through defense and strength while trying to fix the economic and fuel shortage crisis.
And that's why the Republican Party didn't like him is for the people
Fellow cdn here. I agree with your comment. My cousin from England went to the US with her school while Carter was president. She got to meet him and her class spent all afternoon with him. She said how down to earth and how incredibly nice he was.
@@dotmurphy7279 It has been proven that an emissary for Reagan went to Iran and made a deal-- it was a deal made by a USA civilian, not the government, and as such was and is completely illegal. It is remarkably parallel to the same type of move made by Nixon's campaign in 1968, as civilians they approached South Vietnam and convinced them to reject the Paris Peace Accords, in order to secure Nixon's election, which it did. Neither of these crimes have ever been punished, and in fact the Republicans have become more and more emboldened because they've never been held accountable.
Even when Jimmy Carter was held in a measure of disdain, he was my hero! Times have been mean for quite a while, and Jimmy's kindness, goodness, decency and good will to all are shining examples for everyone!
Being a Carter fan was, for a long time, a very lonely place but I was there and knew in my heart that Jimmy was a top drawer human being.

As a resident of Ontario, who was 3 at the time, Thank you, Mr. Carter, and God bless.
🇨🇦 agreed. Thank you Sir.
I had a roommate in college, 1976-1980, UVA, from Plains. She proudly framed her GA driver’s license with Carters signature from when he was Governor. During those years, I began to admire Carter. Still do.
I still have my first Georgia driver's license issued in 1973, because it has Carter's signature.
It feels fortunate that Carter was President during the accident at three mile island. Our house was inside the ten mile radius & it was a very scary time. He was a calming voice in the midst of uncertainty & it was comforting to have a leader who understood the science of what was happening.
They did an snl sketch just after Three Mile Island. Jimmy comes to visit and goes into the reactor room where he absorbs enough radiation to cause him to grow to a height of 50 ft. They called it The Amazing Collosal President.
@@olivegreenpants7153 i remember that. They also did one called “the Pepsi syndrome” - referencing the film the China syndrome- where a nuclear accident was caused by someone spilling a soda on the control panel.

Intelligence and integrity. A well lived life.
A truly Great human. I think Patriots are those who give of themselves to their country. To their people. Carter gave of himself. A lesson, that patriotism isn't waving flags and singing songs. It's doing good things for your fellow man. He taught me this.

When I mentioned to a person last week that Jimmy Carter had gone home and is now receiving hospice care, that person said, "Really? He was so stupid!" I was too young to remember much of Carter's presidency, so I spent the weekend reading up on James Carter of Plains, GA, the longest living former president of the United States. What I learned blew me away! Jimmy Carter may not have been the most successful president during his tenure in the WH, but his naval career, moral strength, and lifelong humanitarian accomplishments puts most to shame, particularly those entitled politicians who only think of themselves. Could you imagine Trump with a shovel in hand to help dig out homes after a hurricane?! Stupid?! Define stupid! ... The only day I ever skipped out of school was to go down the street to a friend's house to watch the Carter inauguration. There were probably a dozen or so of us there, and I'm sure the teachers all knew where we were. Jimmy Carter had a difficult presidency, but, in my opinion, is the best ex-president we have ever had. Carter and his crew were heroic, but he wasn't "in charge".
The Americans requested from the Canadians to help to gain experience and knowledge.
150 Americans helped 170 Canadian troops and 867 reactor personel.

Not to demean his heroism in the least, but President Carter was not "in charge".
When the accident occurred, the American government offered Canada to help to gain knowledge and experience which was welcomed by the Canadians.
Carter was one of 150 Americans who joined 170 Canadian personel and 870 reactor staff in the clean up.

What a wonderful tribute. Thanks so much.
I remember touring the reactor at Chalk River in the late sixties and we were shown how they shielded the floor under the base of the reactor by pouring several feet of concrete onto it. We were also told that US Navy personnel cleaned up the site. The re-built reactor served for many years and not only was part of a research lab but also supplied a large proportion of the world’s medical isotopes.
