I would disagree with Megalon he was trash, you could easily avoid his digging even without monsters that couldn't fly, Orga, Destroyah, and MechaGodzilla 3 were the best, but I liked Gigan he was really good if you knew how to use him, and I did all to well

The challenge stages are MUCH easier if you use the lock-on feature. On the PS2 it was pressing the right analog stick to lock/unlock targets.
