Everyone commenting about this car lacking a 2.0T- They used to offer one, but none of you bought it. They discontinued it because a majority of buyers chose the 1.5T. They also offered a Diesel- which, once again, none of you bought. Buyers that want the 2.0T can step up to a Buick Envision, which is a member of the GM family. It would make no sense for the Equinox and Envision to be the same car- the powertrain differentiates them. Compact SUV buyers don't care about power, they care about fuel economy and MSRP. For those that want power, they must step up to a premium brand. This isn't unique to GM- Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc. only have one NA powertrain. The sales speak for themselves- GM used to offer an engine upgrade, as did every other manufacturer, but very few paid for the engine upgrade and instead went to premium/luxury marques for power. An Equinox with a 2.0T (or laughably a 2.7T like some commenters are suggesting) would easily be nearing $50k. At that point, just get a BMW or a Benz! Who wants to spend $50k for an Equinox??
Make it a hybrid then. Will make it very quick off the line, like the Tucson and Sportage, not to mention better mpg.
@ I agree, a hybrid option would be perfect for this. I remember reading somewhere that GM is working to reintroduce hybrid technology, but they’re now behind since they put 100% of their effort into EVs too early.
They could tune the 1.5T to make more power if they wanted to sacrifice fuel mileage or reliability. A mild hybrid system makes more sense. Most manufacturers don't want to put anything more into the ICE platforms as they are going away. GM would much rather sell an Equinox EV at this point.
My 2.5 litre Mazda with a 6 speed transmission gets over 30 mpg and 190 hp to boot. Never been back for any recalls or repairs in over 80,000 miles. Used to be a GM buyer but their quality, engineering, piss poor service departments and overall reliability has sent me to Toyota and Mazda and I will never go back!! … sad 😢
Stop trying to defend crap. Too many better alternatives out there than this DOA garbage. CRV, RAV4, CX5, Tuscan, Sportage, Forrester, Escape to name a few. Maybe it's me because I had a POS Impala that should be in the Smithsonian for the worst car ever built
Chevy Equinox vs the Class President Toyota Rav4 (Base 4-cylinder)
HP: 175 vs 203.
0-60: 8.9 vs 7.6
MPG 24/29 vs 27/35.
Cargo Capacity: 29.8/63.5 vs 37.6/69.8
Price: $29995 vs $28675
You forgot one major point. My local Toyota dealer won't sell you one at MSRP. They want to mark it up and charge even MORE if you don't have a trade or won't finance with them. My local Chevy dealer will DISCOUNT the price of an Equinox. Toyotas have become FUGLY as sin and I HATE just talking to any of their salespeople. Same goes for my local Honda dealer.
@@tedunguent156 It pays to buy the best.
@@InvestBetter. LOL Fan-boi. I've had two Toyotas and I've had a LOT of GM cars and trucks. There is nothing that you can tell me. So-called "resale value" is the biggest come on in the auto business.
@@tedunguent156 Thanks for the ignorance, but I don';t own any Toyotas. I just showed you how GM's new 2025 stacks up against a 5 year old Toyota. Deal with it.
@@InvestBetter. "Deal with it." Can't act like an adult, huh? Typical.
A small displacement V6 would have been a better choice.
Just about anything else in the engine dept would have been better. If GM only wants to offer a single powertrain option, it should at least be a decent one.
Seats are adequate which means not very comfortable.
It's such a shame that they don't put a 2 L turbo for in this vehicle. That 1.5 is a joke, I would much rather have a Toyota RAV4 with the naturally aspirated 2.5 L that gets much better gas, mileage, and performance.
It is a shame. But I get it. Chevy has not made a good decision in a while. Too worried about the vette.
The 'old' 2.0 turbo was the way to go for the Equinox and the Malibu, the '20 Equinox 0-60 was over 2 seconds quicker than the '25.
They used to. Nobody bought it.
Why do you need do much HP. Need to spin the tires.
You'd have to give me this thing. Better have a full tank of fuel too
100k miles then throw it away....
If you’re lucky enough to make it to 100k miles without it falling apart.
Our 2015 Escape made it to 80k before the turbo went.
@@rossw5576 that’s not what I would call an accomplishment.
It's a Ford. We are happy it still runs. Just have to lower the standards like they did.
You'll never get to 100k
GM has been making the best cars these days. Cars from Chevy, Buick, GMC and Cadillac are all fantastic in terms of comfort, style and reliability.
Yeah, tell that to Pontiac and Oldsmobile.
@@cobracharmer6178 Pointless comment. Where do you people come from? LMAO
Now, the front end looks like the rest of the lineup
It’s a nice looking suv but that engine would be a deal breaker for me. Go to Mazda and you will get a 2.5 4cyl that will be much more reliable in the future.
that 2.5 motor from mazda is a dog w o turbo test drove the mazda 6 and the cx50 both sucked and so underpowered went with jeep Cherokee v6 night and day of a drive
The prior model was rated one of the most reliable SUV's in its category. Many miss this point. This appears to be a modern tech SUV with, rugged great looks and great price that leverages that prior reliable engine / tranny combo, this looks like a good formula for success for GM.
That drivetrain is quite a disappointment. Poor performance while not offering all that great economy. I guess it looks nice, but I don't see much reason to buy it.
Hate the rear side windows. Can't understand why they'd do that rather than have the rear A pillar showing like they used to.
Are they fake? I didn't see a single shot with light coming through.
Looks like exterior glass but not inside from what I can see.
Couldn’t agree more, just like the Traverse
27 mpg from a 1.5 turbo? That's terrible, I have a 2019 Chrysler pacifica with 3.6 v6 and that's the same mileage I get
I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention the thing is a dog off the line.
At the end of the day you still have a Chrysler tho. So you haven’t won…
While I agree that isn't great for a vehicle this size, here are the Pacifica AWD EPA ratings: 17 city, 25 highway, 20 combined. That's quite a bit worse.
@plmn93 well my real world results are better I can usually get as much as 30 highway and 22-24 combined, and keep in mind the engine is over twice the size plus a heavier vehicle. And mine isn't awd
@@Estes316 Yet you assume you wouldn't do better than the rating with the Equinox. Because then you wouldn't have a point.
Sure looks a lot better! Not impressed with only 1.5 liters up front. Needs at least the 2.5 turbo if not offering a nice V6
💯
They used to offer a 2.0T and a V6. Nobody bought them. Buyers in this class care about MSRP and fuel economy. If you want more power, buy a Buick Envision or step up to a luxury marque.
"transmission selector on the steering column, like many European cars"...............or...........like almost every American car since the beginning of American car manufacturing until the last Lincoln Town Car rolled off the line in 2011, and a design that never stopped being used in large trucks
If they price it aggressively, they will sell it, even if it's underpowered and boring to drive. The Equinox EV on the other hand is the best in it's class, nice to drive, super quiet with enough power and very good range.
Looks great, nice interior. Powertrain is a major letdown. No option for an engine upgrade is a big no from me
1.5 L Weakquinox
You want a racing car???...
Make an Equinox SS with the Silverado's 2.7 turbo. If I want good gas mileage, I'll buy a prius.
Who makes the CVTs for these?
Likely Daewoo or some Chinese company. The engine will fail before the CVT tho, if that’s anyone’s concern…
@@foxtrot685 if the CVT is made by any of them it will all fail together
Looks great! 1.5L is perfect… drive conservative! It just saves more $ in the long run
There's no way that 1.5 is going to last 😂
Along with the CVT transmission.
It will for all the moms and grandmas that aren't lead footed that buy them. Equinoxes are literally everywhere, and I see all model years everyday. If you want power and like to race strangers to the next red light, then you don't buy these cars.
Not with YOU at the wheel. A man who knows what he's doing won't have any problem with it.
@@crazyone1067 That's the front wheel drive. The AWD has an 8 speed.
Nice review.
the honda approach: just enough hp, but never enough....
It's too slow.
I’m going to hold on to my 2018 Premier with the 2.0 turbo. This would be a downgrade. Those are 1970s performance numbers.
Typical GM, make it look good but make everything else shitty. Weak engine and powertrain per usual.
It’s NOT vastly different, there’s only so much you can do to a box on wheels.
that new Equinox, is evolutionary. but i know people have been complaining about the 1.5 engine. but not a fan of those awful CVTs. that's why i will stick with AWD, with that 8 speed. but i hope to see the Equinox EV road test soon though.
The previous Equinox only had a 6-speed transmission. That was the issue. The GMC terrain had the same engine with a 9-speed. It was much better.
@@tedunguent156 that's what that video said, by the looks of it. i mean on the 6 speed part, well unfortunately, the Terrain is gonna get the same things as the Equinox.
I would have thought the RS badge and blacked out Chevy logo would have given it at least 32 more horsepower. But I guess the outside piano black and floating roof drag it back down.
While I think the package is compelling for its tech, general features, room, style... $37K for RS+AWD sans big options, coupled with 8.9 seconds to 60 and only
I can’t believe how underpowered this vehicle is
"Underpowered?" So, driving the speed limit and getting decent fuel economy isn't good enough for you? Sounds childish to me. No wonder more and more pedestrians and cyclists are getting run over by you people.
@ the Nissan Rouge, Honda CRV, Ford Escape, and Hyundai Tucson all offer more engine power.
Vehicle powertrain and engineering shouldn’t have to be sacrificed in order to ensure driver safety and responsibility. If people make the choice to drive like reckless then they’ll have consequences.
I'll keep my mazda cx50
20 years and you still have to push a button for AWD
So when will it start consuming oil? Key piece of missing information
This thing is SLOW IN IRL , especially with 4 adults
John sounds tired/has a cold
I can get over 30 mpg with my 5.7L Challenger
Yeah, on the highway. Not overall. The Equinox AWD they drove AVERAGED almost 28 mpg.
If you want the 2.0, buy a Buick Envision
The price of the 2025 Buick Envision starts at $37,895 and goes up to $47,595 depending on the trim and options.
27 mpg.. how do small CUVs compare to cars. in fuel economy and handling again? But we have more room for crap , except that a station wagon would offer more. At least its nice looking. but that 1.5 probably needs a few more ponies to up the power to rate ratio.
It appears that GM borrowed some Camaro interior bits and tried to make it look more expensive than it is.
So, is that a bad thing? Or a good thing?
Umm no premium sound system
chevy casually copy and pasting their lineup exterior designs
This is a great car if you're really bad at making decisions
4g equinox more modern than previous generations
Plenty of power for us good car
With reports these things don't even last 60-100k miles, this one will NEVER make it and talk about HORRIBLE exceleration/performance.
At least put the 2.0t in this as an option
Stop complaining. The 2.0 was offered originally but was discontinued because nobody bought it.
Will you pay an extra 3-5 thousand for it?
@ personally….yes I would. I like a vehicle that has a bit more power
@@allroadsawesome step up to something higher end then, like an envision.
GM lost my interest with the tiny engine.
So GM is back to an 8 speed again. Up to 2016 it was a 6 speed, some ‘17 Malibus had an Aisin 8 speed, then in ‘18 they released a 9 speed, then a CVT. The “heart of the vehicle” will suffer cardiac arrest well before 90k miles, and for John (who is notoriously kind) to say adequately comfortable, that means you will have a backache on long trips. Oh, and 29 MPG but can’t hit a mid 16 second 1/4 mile? The VW Tiguan AWD can hit 34 on the highway and runs high 15s.
Looks like a burban on 24s with those tiny brake rotors
Chevy designs are getting worse recently. The new equinox looking similar to the new mitsubishi outlander.
How old is Mr. Davis?
102
@dforrest4503 102 you say, well alright.
@dforrest4503 😂 (76)
Such a nice SUV 🚙 but it’s slow, everything else in the class is faster than this by 2-4 seconds!
Wouldn’t but it for two reason. 1, that engine is a joke. 2, GM has the flimsiest interiors on the market that feel like they’re made out of milk jugs and bubble gum.
NOPE !!!
Who keeps telling GM these front ends look good? Ugly as sin. Junk drivetrain, junk appearance, junk build quality.
Like your mom
The koreans
Yes the vehicle is a pos. 60,000 miles the engine blows up. Go ahead spend you money on polished shit.
WHAT a joke GM!! First, get that 1.5L the hell out right now. This needs the 2.0 at a minimum. Secondly don't even consider the base FWD with a CVT. The AWD with the 8 speed is the only way to go. However, I would not even consider this over any CX-50, Tiguan, CRV etc. No contest
Chevy! What a joke! People spend hard earned money on a vehicle and all you give them is 175hp and crappy gas milage?
bloody CVT
Sooooo slow and terrible mileage. Yawn.
These engines are such a joke for SUV’s with all the weight of the vehicle itself and add in passengers, pathetic.
19s on an Equinox? Rather have 20s. And the V6.
how far we fallen....an ugly, little plastic box, with a wheezy 4 cylinder engine, available in black or white, with black plasticky interior, about the size of my bathtub, all for over $25k...no thanks on any of these crappy suvs..ill keep my 10 year old CTS
Squeak-quinox with that 1.5L
