The MAC gets the guys who don't match the usual laundry list of traits that bigger conference schools demand. It was just a matter of size. If he was maybe 2 inches taller (and assuming he'd be heavier, naturally) we probably wouldn't have had a chance at getting him. If you watch clips from the Orange Bowl the size difference between conferences just slaps you in the face... NIU's guys looked like kids compared to FSU's.
Pac 12 defenses lol give me a break. MAC had three teams in top 50 total defenses, PAC 12 had four. Rush defenses in the top 50 Pac 12 had three, MAC had three. And what does that have to do with anything when we're talking individual performances? I'm not discussing Kent St versus whoever, i'm discussing Dri Archer vs and DAT versus. I'm not saying DAT is bad because I think he's a beast, but what that guy said didn't make a bit of sense.
Recruiting is heavily based off of rankings, and as a 2-star recruit he's lucky to have been offered a scholarship especially since he's undersized. I'm not a fan of Rivals rankings, but it wasn't really his decision. I'm sure he wanted to go to a better school, but he chose Kent State because they were the best team out of the other teams that offered him a scholarship.
Lol at 4.21 in the 40. Maybe if it was hand held timing and a coach was quick on the trigger, but he's not a 4.21 guy. If anybody wants to debate, then I'm up for making a very hefty wager when he runs in the combine. Anyway, nice player either way. Those really fast, quick, smaller guys are a pain in the arse to track down!
Not to be that guy, don't get me wrong the kid looks incredible and has great speed and agility, but, i would like to see how he does against a team from the B1G or at least the ACC if not the SEC. It could be a lower grade team at least like Iowa or Indiana. But i would like to see what he could do with the big boys.
he's not that much slower tavon is faster but by like a second and his stats i would say were a bit explosive 1,429 rushing yards 16 rushing touchdowns 561 receiving yards 4 receiving touchdowns and so that equals 1990 total yards and lets not forget his 3 kickoff returns which equals to 23 total touchdowns thats 138 points so you go look at film
He's good but you have to consider the competition when you compare him to guys like thomas and austin. I know when tavon played against JMU it looked like a college kid playing against high schoolers. So archer can make towson look bad but what about oklahoma, texas, USC, stanford, kansas state, the teams austin and thomas played against?
He is just another Jeff Demps but outside of the SEC. I love his speed but as an overall NFL player I don't see him going earlier than the 3rd round at most. Between his size, unpolished talent, and level of competition people need to understand that an NFL scout will look at him and Jahvid Best and will just have to agree the risks outweigh the rewards.
He might be a Day 2 steal. I don't see him being drafted early. Some team will probably take a flyer on him in the 4th or 5th round. SF has a lot of late-round draft picks and Ted Ginn Jr. likely won't be returning to SF, so they might use a pick on Archer, although I would rather see him in Gold & Blue and burning up the turf in STL.
Well we have no good KR/PR .. And the way we use Reggie I could see us using him .. Slot type of WR ... And with the new play calling style he would be a great speed threat .. That being said Ryan Broyles is out on injury so we don't kn ow if they don't have a good WR other then Calvin
If I was a GM in the NFL, I'd get him AND De'Anthony Thomas and play them both together at once in a variety of packages. Depending on the talent around them, it could be the greatest offensive attack in NFL history. Plus having them both deep to return kicks would be dynamic as well.
Its also one game against an average team. He is overrated, they dont play anybody with a notable defense. And he is not the most exciting player. he is basically a wanna be Tavion Austin. But with worst stats, slower, and not as explosive, go look a the tape.
Call me the next time Dat and Tavon put up better stats than this guy. DAT hasn't come near 1000 yards rushing nor double digit rushing TDs. Go look at the rush defense ranking of the teams Archer faced to what DAT did.
everything enjoyed a healthy ats record betting on this kid & kent state last year. He may have had a rough game against N.Illinois but he had a few good receptions and Kent State still covered the spread :)
Oh watch his high school tape, it's almost like he was trolling college coaches or sandbagging. The dude looks a million times better in college it's to the point where it's almost laughable how good he has become.
its sad that this guy went to such a small school, and if you watch his highschool highlights you'd see why, but if this guy was playing for a bigger school oregon he probably would have won the heisman
De'anthony is rated in the 30's on most NFL boards and will probably will not go top 10 because no one needs a running back. No one is going to take him over guys like Bridgewater, Lee, Watkins, and so on
While I agree Dri Archer is good he is also doing this against SOFT teams. Imagine De'Anthony Thomas going against this talent crop? He does the same type of stuff except against the Pac-12.
For a player to be tagged "The most exciting player in college football" i would expect them to have a big impact in big games like the one i referenced. Regardless if it was one game buddy.
deanthony Thomas is preseason #1 running back, he's rated #3 overall player, probably going top 10. I agree with the comments about archer though. he got shut down with any team playing D.
So you are saying that Mid-American conference teams' defenses are better than PAC-12 defense? Kent State would not even be able to win 1 game against any PAC-12 team except Colorado.
lol, he still had 81 yards receiving on 5 catches and a rushing TD. 96 total yards and a TD is the worse effort of his whole season. I didn't even add in his all purpose yards.
let me guess 4th round pick, he'll struggle to get on the field, then he'll get put on special teams, be largely ineffective and be out of the league in a year or two
titans should take him next year to show CJ that you have to be fast AND actually look around the field to see where you are supposed to run to be a good running back.
oh and tavon scored 29 touchdowns in his career archer scored 23 in 1 season and don't give me that whole tougher defense crap because stedman bailey scored 41 touchdowns
Look at the end of the day this guy is good. His game is smooth, and exciting. I agree he is not as good as Tavon Austin and DAT but he isnt that far behind them.
this nigga nice af yoo he goin to the league i predict him in the 3rd round doe bcuzz kent state a small skool but he gunnashock the world and be a great nfl star
4.21 is fast, i don't care if it's SEC, big 12, pac 12, etc. but speed kills no matter where you play. he will be atleast a 3rd round pick in my opinion
Welcome to the steelers!
I'm sorry, if he played at OSU he would have won the heisman by a landslide. Its criminal how underrated he is
Kent State's version of Tavon Austin
They have another RB Forgot his name but he Ran way more than him. It should've been the opposite
He doesn't even need a car he can just run wherever he needs to go
You Deserve Top Comment.

He looks like Rocket!

The title didn't lie, he's the most Exciting college football player, don't act like anyone said he was the best or anything, just watch and enjoy.
Hopefully a future Green Bay Packer!
sorry to burst your little WV stained bubble, but Tavon Austin is 5' 9" 174 De'Anthony Thomas is 5' 9" 178 Dri Archer is 5' 8" 175
but it was arguably his toughest comp. Not trying to discredit him, but ya gotta step up in those games. Still a smooth palyer tho.
Doubt it
Detroit would do wonders with this kid ... Archer .. Bush.. Calvin Johnson .. Broyles .. Bell.. Wow id cry for other teams
screw the NFL you'll make it but they wont play you look into sevens rugby you can definitely use your speed better in rugby
I was there when he ran his 4.21. It was legit, held at Dix Stadium here in Kent Ohio. So if you want to make that wager.....
I wish this kid was on a team with a lot more talent. Then he'd be put right in the mix with players like Deanthony, Tavon, etc.
this dude is great faster than many players at bigger schools is this his last year if so he should look to transfer somewhere
why fast guys only run with the ball on their right hand ?? Austin, Archer, Thomas and many other.. watch out for fumbles !!
Tavon Austin and De'anthony Thomas are more exciting but i would put him 3rd. (Yes i know Tavon is in the NFL right now)
Doesn't matter who you're playing, 9.0 YPC on rush attempts is just insane for a guy who had over 150 rushing attempts.
hes good, and fast, and whats crazy is that he is 5'8.. everyone else is at least over 6 foot. and he is killing them!!
not if he is going to be a senior if last season was his junior season he will get to play immediately if he is a seinor
I just read that Archer is going to return to Kent State for his Senior Season, so he won't be in the 2013 NFL Draft.
OW just like Tavon and Percy and all the other little fast guys in the league. He would be better than tavon
speed kills! doesnt matter how strong you are, you gotta catch the player first before you use your strength
That's like saying someone like Barry Sanders isn't good just because one game he didn't have 100 yards.
Berry Sanders playoff game vs Green Bay had 13 attempts for -1 yards.. He is also overrated (sarcasm)
No ones gonna take Bridgewater, hes gonna end up in the CFL like the rest of the one-game-wonders
Anyone know how many rushing yards he had against NIU ? 12 attempts for 15 yards....(over rated)
Wish he would transfer to a big team like Ohio State. He would be deadly in that spread attack.
how durable is he? dont mean shit if he gets hurt often.. dont know much about him fill me in fans
God damn he's so fast 1:57 really proves it the guy has a great angle on him and he burns him
What if he played for Ohio State in Urban Myers spread offense, this guy would be a beast!!!"
or danny woodhead for that matter. I think patriots will draft this guy but in the 5-6 rounds
He is every bit as fast as Austin and Thomas; they just go to more prestigious schools.
still wouldn't have an actual #2 receiver.... the depth sucks other than Calvin Johnson
Dont get me wrong he's a good player and all but they play anyone good. No competition
He's good don't get me wrong, but look at the teams and defense he's going against .-.
your right they should be friends but their not go OREGON!!!!!!!!!!!#MARCUSFORHEISAM.
Chiefs... would be sick with him and Charles on the field at the same time... my god
Thomas and Austin are the same size. Actually, Thomas is probably a little heavier.
It's amazing how him and josh cribbs two electric players are both from Kent state
Nothing. He may be good but his line won't be big enough to open holes for him.
Secret to his speed......stride length. He has long stride for a guy thats 5'8
i was at the game when he played army i got a picture with him after the game
@5:01 What is this trickery? Just damn.. He deserves a chance! The Bucs baby!!
Bill Belicheck coaching up Dri Archer and Jeff Demps? Fucking unstoppable.
hes playing Kentucky in the Video. And you are right, that would be nice.
What if St.Louis picks Dri Archer! Tavon Austin + Dri Archer =Dream Team
Michael turner had similar game not to long ago, hes not overrated....
When he gets drafted he might just get moved to reciever...just sayin.
Dayuuum check out that QB block #3 at 1:15 thats some real shit there
Because Kent State was the only D1 school that tried to recruit him.
he has sec athletism and pac 12 speed
he is just as fast as cj2k he will break that record at da combine
Bo'y aiiin't even 5'8 🎉
Watch "Lenard "Flash" Covington Jr 2013 Highlights" on RUclips
Lenard "Flash" Covington Jr 2013 Highlights
tavon austin runs a 4.25 forty yard dash, dri archer runs a 4.37
Browns should draft him and team him up with Benjamin and they would have twin speed demons, speed kills!!!
No offense but why did this freak take his talents to kent...
every player has bad games. that doesnt make him over rated.
hey what are the names of the songs on this video?
thank you!
Dri Archer,De'Anthony Thomas,Tavon Austin........nuff said
It looks like he has really long legs for only being 5'8
He works out and what not but that speed is GOD given!
austin in the nfl now but yeah this guy is just as fast
Imagine falling while running that fast... you're dead.
id like to see what he could do against better defenses
We got Linebackers as fast as him in Bama Roll Tide.
still think tavon is the best of the three thus far
De'Anthony Thomas and Dri Archer should be friends
