thank God for the thief on the cross. and the paralytic on the mat. It says Jesus literally "saw their faith, and said 'your sins are forgiven you." These were people who were both paralyzed. Couldn't move. Couldn't work. couldn't twitch for salvation. They simply believed.

I think about it according to the parable of the workers in the vineyard regarding salvation from hell. One works the whole day and gets the reward. One works 2 minutes and gets the reward.
If you were to look for justification in this context it would say it's accepting the offer of employment. You don't have to submit a resume or do something to get in. Once you accept, you are considered worthy of receiving the reward given you remain the eentire work day.
Now the thief bearing the reproach of the Lord can be considered a good work arising out of faith. All his previous sins were not accounted against him, and he could receive the reward by finishing out the work day no matter how little was left. He did not have to continue on with things of the Christian life like living by the spirit, confession of sins, charity, etc. I would say we are NEVER justified BY these works. But I would say our justification gives us the standing to be rewarded FOR these works, even with eternal life.
I stand acceptable to God (present tense) based on my justification by faith alone. In the end, when I stand before His judgment seat, He will say well done (implying work) because my sin will have been dealt with by His grace and my good works will have been enabled by His grace to be exceedingly pleasing (Ephesians 2:8-10).

your confusion is totally understandable Jen, it's what happens when we hear sermons from "teachers" who practice double-speech. I pray for John Piper and hope he is just a very confused saved person, but the man is a walking contradiction. Jesus either 100% saves you through His death, burial, and resurrection like Paul says in 1 Corinthians chapter 15 or He doesn't save you at all. We play NO part in our own salvation except to trust the Savior! as Jesus said, "IT IS FINISHED!"

Hi Jennifer. If you believe in Faith Alone, then you are standing along side every heretic that has ever lived.
JAMES 2:14 ASKS "Can faith alone save you?"
That answer is unequivocally given in James 2:24:
      James 2:24 NASB
You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
That is the only answer given by the Holy Spirit thru James. And that is also substantiated by Paul in 1 Cor 13:1-3.
Here is the ancient Catholic doctrine of Justification:

I think Piper ties himself in knots here and fails to express a very simple idea, which is that we are saved by faith alone, provided that this faith is the right kind of faith, that is, a faith accompanied by repentance. Such a faith will always produce good works because the Holy Spirit, which indwells us as soon as we receive such a faith as a gift from God, will inexorably lead us to please our Heavenly Father.

They put heavy burdens on people. The whole package is a gift, so that no man can boast. After you have received the free gift, then you start living the Christian life through the power of the holy spirit that lives in you. That is the new life. The new life you live has nothing to do with getting saved, but has everything to do with the fact that you are saved. Pray for John piper that the Lord gives him clarity so that he can make it more clear. As the holy spirit dwells in you, you will produce fruit because that is what the holy spirit does in a believers life not to mention that you don't belong to yourself any more you were bought with the precious blood of Jesus so he has every right to produce fruit in your life for his glory and for your gain. This is the heart of the gospel which we must protect and share. Work out you salvation means to work out the power of the holy spirit that is in you ( don't hide your light) let it shine. He paid it all.

You are contradicting Scripture when you make such a statement: James 2:24

    • @Marinanor
      @Marinanor 6 лет назад +8

23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
In other words, you can be a hooker and as long as you have trusting faith, you can be saved. (Keep in mind, there are consequences for sin).
The Bible's talking about getting saved and staying saved in God's way. In the Old Testament it was more through ways of the Old Covenant, and some sort of faith that you had to fulfill through sacrifice.
Jesus is using the Old Testament in a way that proves someone has the spirit of God. But you get that spirit of God in trust alone. If you die without having done anything right it doesn't matter as far as Salvation's concerned. Salvation is what God does right, not what you or I can do right. "Lest any man can boast".

I live in South Carolina where there is are around 200 different Protestants Churches. I have been to them. They were like an Ozzy Osborne concert. Lasers smoke machines electric guitars and a 80 piece drum kit. They all have Bibles and the handle them like a child with a comic book. The pastors are entertainers and the ALWAYS take the talking points of the mainstream media and connect them to the END TIMES, It is quite a shock to this Polish Catholic. There is no way to debate these people. They believe in faith alone and Bible alone, They refuse to accept that the New Testament is actually Catholic. That the Catholic Bishops had no part in determining what books were divinely inspired. They refuse to accept the teachings of the Church Fathers, Their doctrines are always changing. They believe when you read the Bible the Holy Spirit enters into you and will reveal the truth as you read. So a verse in the Bible can have different meanings to different people and truth changes over time. It is really insane to watch and listen to these people. They dance with arm in the air and stare at the ceiling and get worked up into a hysterical state. I would advise every Catholic to go to one of these churches. It will make you very grateful to be Catholic

There are too many different answers for me to believe God is giving everyone a different way to obtain salvation.. the sure way is to get in the word of God and obey his WORDS. No. As romantic as that sounds, it is incorrect. Ephesians 2:10 refers to "good works" that are for us to do and contrast with the "works" that can lead to boasting in Ephesians 2:9. The difference is that in v. 9 these originate with our plans for governing our actions. In v. 10 those are works from God's plan for governing our actions. They are called "good" because as Jesus said, "God alone is good" and James said "Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of heavenly lights who does not change like shifting shadows." Our own plan of works are filthy rags. God's works for us are not filthy, because they are made good by the one governing them.

Right, because of His good work and because He “fulfilled all righteousness”. What you said is true in a loose sense but I believe it is sort of a simplistic understanding. Maybe some people don’t struggle with this seeming paradoxical dynamic between faith and works (the holiness we must strive for in order to see the Lord), maybe because they’re more naturally virtuous and well behaved because of their upbringing or maybe just a more radical transformation… but for depraved scumbags like me who have a really pronounced and wicked “old man” to bury and move forward from, this question is more important. Here’s my take if you’d like to read :) The good works that Jesus did also include giving us His Word; sending out the apostles; sending the Holy Spirit in His Name who would give them (and us) “power from on high” and would bring all things to their remembrance and who would guide us into all truth (“us” meaning us people who would later believe on Jesus because of their word… John 17:20); would dwell in us and seal us and work in us to will and to work according to His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13); to lay aside sin and to bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians ch 5), demonstrating through our works that our faith is alive and not dead (James); which will lead to the holiness necessary to see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). Not a perfect Holiness, but a life that bears at least some fruit, submissive and available for discipline and pruning, and is continually penitent for where we fall short, continually confessing and trusting Christ to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We think too narrowly about things. Salvation, as Piper said, is a GRAND, OVERARCHING lifelong process and ultimately, an act of God and His Spirit dwelling within us… which is where our security comes from and which is why we can say the only thing we need to contribute is faith… because, even the holiness required that we need to strive for is something that God “works in us… to will and to work”. It is true that it does always circle back to Him. The justification, which is indeed by faith alone and itself is righteousness, does not remain alone if it is real. (I’m saying this as a markedly imperfect and struggling Christian… no superiority here).
What John Piper gets and what we have to understand is that, because God is infinite and sovereign and because we are created in His image with wills of our own too… that this is very complicated. So much of what is true about what God is doing is “yes-and”; not “either-or”. So many people struggle with that because of the seeming contradictions there and so it’s understandable… but when you take a systematic look at the Bible like Piper does you find paradoxes as well as opposite ends of an undefinable spectrum of reality between God and us somehow meeting in the middle. That’s the reality with His sovereignty and our “free” will, as well. I think John was spot on with this as he usually is with most topics he undertakes. It is correct that our justification is indeed free and is obtained apart from works of the law or of our own righteousness; but also that our believing in Him is the very thing that anchors and secures and guarantees all the future work of God to makes sure that we are holy enough to “get in” (to put it crudely).

Are our works done in vain? See, when you add to the gospel, you begin to doubt your own salvation, unless you are prideful, and then you’re in even more danger. Faith comes by hearing the gospel and believing it. You are trying to redefine what believe means, and redefine what faith means.

Wrong. Jesus was referring to the commandments given in 1st John 3:22-
1 John 3:22-23 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave [a]us commandment.
This harmonizes perfectly with the rest of scripture, especially when we see what God says in Galatians 3:19-25....
Galatians 3:19-25 New King James Version (NKJV)
      Purpose of the Law
19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, [a]kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our [b]tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
It is clear that the law(Old testament Commandment keeping) has absolutely nothing to do with a born again believer having already been justified before God, because God says that the believer is NO LONGER UNDER the law after already receiving Christ and eternal life. In other words, the law (Old testament commands ) was only purposed to bring one to an understanding that they have sin and that they are guilty before God, in need of a savior. The law is the mirror which reveals your face is dirty, yet you do not wash your face with the mirror but with the WATER ( Jesus' payment for sins, the gospel, 1st corinthians 15:1-4). To say one needs to be obedient after being justified , born again, is to say one needs to use the law for which it was not made, which also is made clear here regarding the law and it's inability to give LIFE. How much clearer do the scriptures need to be? This heretic is causing so many issues within the body of Christ and while also giving assurance to those who trust in a works based salvation/ false gospel message. Same as MacArthur and his horrid missuses of scripture. This is the exact type of person who truly PRACTICES LAWLESSNESS . Everyone thinks Matthew 7:21-23 is referring to sins regarding the normal lists like sexual sins, liars, thieves, etc.... when it is not. Jesus' issue is these people point to their works just as John piper and MacArthur do rather than the blood of Christ and His sufficient atonement/payment for their sins. They rely on behavior modification rather than the perfect righteousness of Christ. They are attempting to use the law in a manner which God does not permit ( which is in itself lawlessness) and for this reason, Jesus condemns them as those who practice lawlessness. Everytime they give a false gospel, it is lawlessness. Everytime they use the law unlawfully, it is LAWLESSNESS. This is further confirmed by Jesus' statement that those who do the Father's will will enter into heaven. Jesus' reveals the Fathers will in John 6:36-40.
John 6:36-40 New King James Version (NKJV)
36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will [a]by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Piper and Macarthurs' teachings do NOT agree with God's prescription on how to be saved. Their teachings are not the will of the Father. Believe and be saved, period. These false teachers know nothing about God's grace and as Peter said, they " Speak evil of things they do not understand and will utterly perish in their own corruption".....

Hi. It's been 3 months, and I wonder if you will see this. But by faith, I pray you will. I have been blessed with a mind that understands John Piper (maybe because we think a-like, not really sure), so I will try to say something similar, in a more personal way.
We receive salvation by believing that Jesus Christ died for us and so, by His blood, I can therefore walk before God in boldness/freedom and confidence ( Eph. 3:11-12). So now we are saved and will receive eternal life when we die, but what about the time we wait for our death or the return of Jesus?
That is where works is relevant. In the letter of James, you can read more about it in-depth (I highly recommend). Works is: reading your Bible daily, praying daily, practicing love and mercy towards your enemies, practicing discernment, dying to yourself daily, being selfless and humble, exalting others above yourself, worshipping and praising God for everything, leaning on Jesus in times of trouble, going into an unsure situation on the grounds of 'Jesus is my shepherd; I shall not want' (Ps. 23:1), denouncing everything in this world to exalt God to His rightful place, and much much more.
Some of the things I mentioned is a natural growth through the Holy Spirit, but others you have to sacrifice time and yourself to do (even when you don't 'feel like it'). When you are saved, you will still be tempted into doing the things you "loved" in your old life, so what will keep you away from these desires? Faith: acting on a belief or a promise - which you cannot see - based on good reason that it will be so. (This explains it well: ruclips.net/video/A-zK3Uy-QcY/видео.html&ab_channel=TimMackieArchives)
I will give you an example from my own life:
Before I was saved, I played a lot of video games, read tons of fantasy books and listened to epic soundtrack from the games and films I loved.
Today I have to deny myself all of these things, which means: no gaming, no reading books that is not the Bible or my studies, very limited amount of music I can listen to (when you add all the secular sexual songs) and lots of films I cannot watch.
I am not denying myself these things, because Christ will take away my salvation; I am denying myself these things, because the chance of me (eventually) loving them more than Christ is high and that would create such conflict in me, it would stop my growth in Christ until I leave those earthly things again. (I am killing my desires, by denying them space in my heart. That can be tiresome work, but by the grace of Jesus, He will help me succeed. It is my works, but it's a victory by Jesus - a victory I cannot boast about.)
Why did I deny myself all these things? By faith in Jesus Christ, from the Word and from spiritual experiences when I was born again. I have a really good reason to chose to do these things (being: eternal life is real and will be so much better), which might seem absurd to others, but makes sense to me.
So, by faith you act with good reason: you will be doing some work, but by Jesus you succeed and win. When you are tired from that work, it's by Jesus you get rest. It's your work that you open your Bible and sacrifice time to read and study, but it's by Jesus and the Holy Spirit that you gain knowledge and wisdom in the Word. It's your work that you disciple a new child of Christ, but it's by Jesus and the Holy Spirit that you guide them on the road of truth. Everything you do in the name of Jesus is work, but you cannot boast of your victories, because Jesus is the victorious One - always.
These victories by Christ, however, require that you humble yourself before the Lord. God cannot work with prideful Christians, so it's by your work that you pursue to humble yourself, but again (say it with me), by Jesus you will be humbled and then by the grace of Jesus, He will exalt you. James 4:6, 10 '6 But He gives more grace. Therefore is says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."... 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.'
I hope it makes sense what I wrote. And I pray you will find peace in understanding the relationship between being saved without works, but by Jesus alone, and then acting on your faith by doing good works, because you have a good reason. Pray to Jesus about this, because this is the first solid foundation a Christian needs to stand firmly on. To know that you are saved, even when someone talks about this in a confusing manner :) I recommend doing a study on faith and works. God bless you friend. Please write if you have more questions and I will do my best to guide you along, in the name of Jesus. :)

And that's exactly where the forces of evil want you -- worrying & confused, instead of trusting fully in the Savior, glorifying Him. Piper destroys the idea of imputed righteousness. Do you want God looking at your works? or the works of Christ? when your time has come...I choose to be covered fully by Christ, for Him to take my place as my savior, paying for my sins & living the perfect righteous life I have not. All glory be to God! You either enter through the door as a sheep, or you won't enter at all. On that day many will say to Him "Did we not do this and that and that and this!" They are not trusting in Christ, but are focused or their works, and are turned away. BTW You do show PEOPLE! your faith by your works... not GOD, HE IS THE ONE WHO GAVE IT TO YOU! This is not Calvinism, it seems closer to roman Catholicism. What Piper's doing is no new thing, the wolves have been after the sheep for a long time, but we the sheep will not listen to a stranger, rather, we will follow the Good Shepard into heaven.

Jesus said in Matthew 25 41:46 - 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' 44 Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' 45 Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
    Mathew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you;
but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I guess the believers in the Corinthian church who were judged to death by the Lord for their grievous sin of drinking the Lord's supper in an improper manner are going to hell? Strange. That's not what Paul says about them. "For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world." 1 Corinthians 11

      Also regarding eternal life,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
      - Jude 1:21
How to love God (and keep it) so we can receive the promise of eternal life?
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
      - 1 John 5:3
11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
      - 1 John 5:11-12
      But, ...
5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-unless indeed you fail the test?
      - 2 Corinthians 13:5
How to examine ourselves if Christ is in us?
5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, FOR APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING.
      - John 15:5
      Do what?
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
      - Ephesians 2:10
      What is good?
So then, the LAW is holy, and the COMMANDMENT is holy and righteous and GOOD.
      - Romans 7:12
Can we lose that promise of eternal life?
      15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
16 that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.
17 For you know that even afterwards, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought for it with tears.
      - Hebrews 12:15-17
26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.

Okay I'm going to make a bit of a long comment here so here we go, Calvinism is a cult it was made by John Calvin who was an ex-catholic, Calvinism believes that unless you're one of the elect you were not saved but if you're one of the elect you have eternal security this is what people love to call faith alone that don't understand faith alone Calvinists believe in John Calvin's Doctrine unless you're one of the elect you're not saved but you can't know if you're one of the elect, it's a maddening Doctrine and this is only one aspect of it but most people who don't understand the gospel will get Calvinism confused with Christianity which again their ignorance is the only reason why but for him that worketh not but believeth on him who justifies the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness that is from the Epistles of Paul the problem with most people today is they don't study the Bible, instead they're willing to only listen to a so-called holy man which Paul has said many times in his Epistles there are none righteous no not one if you read Galatians 2 Paul went to the Gentiles only and Peter James and John went to the Jews only because the gospel that Paul was given was a mystery hidden in God since before the foundation of the world but was given unto Paul I've heard from other people who have mentioned will the thief on the cross went to heaven and he didn't do any works that's true he didn't do any Works he believed on Jesus Christ and the Lord honored his face just like the woman who was not Jew who came before Jesus, and because of her faith he blessed her you see there was a secret hidden in God most people today don't realize that there was a middle wall of partition between us and the Jews this middle wall of partition is talked about in the Epistles of Paul but what most people today love to do is they go to Matthew Mark Luke and John for their gospel not realizing that Jesus came on to the lost sheep of the House of Israel, and Paul makes it very clear that those of us who are Gentiles we're strangers from the covenants of promise and without hope, what I am doing is called rightly dividing the word of Truth we read the Bible according to the context it is written to meaning who is that verse written to what time it was written in we read the book according to its context you know like everybody on planet Earth reads books it is the most simplistic way of reading the Bible because that's the way it's supposed to be red, today we have issues with the Mormons Jehovah's Witness Seventh-Day Adventists these groups are all cults started by the millerite movement the millerite movement started by trying to date set the time of Christ's return most people go to Matthew or Mark and use verses where Jesus mentioned the end of the world but that is talking about his return at the end of the world in the time of Jacob's trouble switch is revelation, but the catching away of the body of Christ according to the Epistles of Paul was a mystery that was hidden in God since before the foundation of the world the Bible is talking about two separate groups the body of Christ was a mystery not known well as the Jews who were promised a kingdom on Earth haven't gotten their Kingdom yet this is the reality we're living in people don't rightly divide the word of Truth according to its context and so they create their own pretext finding this out maybe she talking to all of you when I found out I was jumping up and down in Joy because it meant that I'm not under the law Paul says that the law was Israel's Schoolmaster to bring them to Christ the Schoolmaster was needed because of Israel's offences towards the Lord it was designed to show them that they were not all that because they thought of themselves as above the Gentiles this is the problem with what we are looking at today most people don't read the Bible according to its context and they ignore 2nd Timothy 2:15 and they would rather believe their cult whether you are Seventh-day Adventist Jehovah's Witness Mormon independent fundamental Baptist which by the way was started in the 1980s it wasn't really much of a movement most people don't realize how young the Baptist movement really is and yet they're always saying we have the true gospel when in reality they don't trying to push people into the law will only get them further away from God it's not about law it's a heart issue people need to understand it's a heart issue between you and God you have to go through a relationship with the Lord can you lose your salvation I've already mentioned you don't have to do any Works to keep your salvation and even if you could the fact of the matter is is that you can't do any Works to attain salvation Paul is very clear in his Epistles about this please look up a pastor by the name of Rodney Boyer from Grace Bible Community Church and stop listening to these crazy religious fools who worship their own good works and ignore the work of Jesus Christ.

Maybe you should get informed on what Calvinism is before you come on her and barf out a bunch of strawmen. Utterly ridiculous, you should be ashamed of yourself. Also, John Piper does not represent the majority of Calvinist or the reformed tradition. He is not even confessional. Grow up. You are likely one of those people too that thinks salvation is based on a decision you made at some point. How is that not works? Also, if you made the decision to be saved, why do you then lose the "free will" you idolize so much and not have the ability to be lost again? For a biblical definition of free will, see Romans 3. Grace and salvation is 100% from God, that is why is cannot be lost.

The Law is still binding today - binding for ALL who deny Jesus Christ, as it convicts all men of sin and shows us all the need for us to place our faith in what Christ did on the cross to remove our sins for salvation. But for those of us who walk by faith and are washed by His shed blood, we are no longer under the law but have been made partakers of the promises given to Abraham which is given to us through faith in what Christ did alone, apart from the works of the law. 🙌🏻 Through walking in this faith daily, we will be changed internally through the spirit of God working in our lives. Changing us into the image of Christ, being circumcised in the heart allowing us to lead with love in all we do. Saved by faith, sanctified by faith, good works manifested by faith and faith alone!
Galatians 3:22-29 King James Version (KJV)
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

John Piper NEVER mentions at all the Biblical reality of ETERNAL REWARDS. Good works which are done or not done in this life will determine the granting or denial of ETERNAL REWARDS for saved people at the Judgment Seat of Christ - 2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15.
All saved Christians works in this life will be evaluated and assessed at the Judgment Seat of Christ to determine the gain or loss of ETERNAL REWARDS, not eternal life which is free. The Judgment Seat of Christ is reserved for SAVED PEOPLE ONLY - 2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. It is separate from the Great White Throne Judgment reserved exclusively for the UNSAVED ONLY - Revelation 20:11-15.
    1) FAITHFUL CHRISTIANS in this life that lived obediently, and faithfully and did things that have eternal value will be granted with eternal rewards, and for some, the earned privilege of reigning with Christ in the Millennium is granted - 2 Timothy 2:12, Revelation 3:21, and Revelation 2:26. Their lives will be tested with fire (Christ's fiery scrutiny) and WILL PASS THE TEST and be granted eternal rewards and some will reign with Christ.
    2) UNFAITHFUL CHRISTIANS in this life that lived disobediently, and carnally will have their works tested with the fire of Christ's scrutiny at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Their lives, that is, their works had no eternal value and WILL FAIL THE TEST and be denied eternal rewards, BUT are still saved because eternal life is a free gift apart from works - Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:20, Romans 3:28, Romans 4:2-6, Romans 9:32, Romans 11:6, Galatians 2:16, Galatians 2:21, Gal ch. 3, Galatians 5:4, Titus 3:5. If we Christians deny Christ in this life by living unfaithfully, disobediently, or carnally in this life, then Christ will DENY us ETERNAL REWARDS (latter half of 2 Timothy 2:12), but our eternal salvation remains intact and untouched as 2 Timothy 2:13 clearly states.
God sometimes punishes unfaithful Christians who are saved with SICKNESS and premature PHYSICAL DEATH who are living in willful sin which is in essence defiling themselves - 1 Corinthians 3:17, 1 John 5:16-17, but they are still saved. The Christians in the Corinthian church who were eating selfishly and getting drunk at the Lord's Supper are a classic example - 1 Corinthians 11:20-22, 1 Corinthians 11:29-30.
Eternal life is FREE, and eternal rewards are EARNED. There is a big difference.
This is what 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 is talking about:
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder WILL SUFFER LOSS, but YET WILL BE SAVED-even though only as one escaping through the flames.
The "gold", "silver", and "costly stones" represents faithful Christian's works in this life that had eternal value and will STAND UP to the fire used to test it, but the "wood", "hay", and "straw" represents unfaithful Christian's works in this life that had no eternal value, but will BURN UP in the fire used to test it. The "gold, "silver", and "costly stones" symbolize a life of obedience, commitment, perseverance, faithfulness, endurance under trial, etc. but the "wood", "hay", and "straw" symbolizes a life of unfaithfulness, disobedience, carnality, laziness, etc.
Again, the "burned up" and "flames" in verse 15 is not referring to the flames of hell, but is referring to the works of the carnal, unfaithful, and disobedient Christians in this life that had no eternal value that is BURNED UP when tested with Christ's fiery scrutiny. Their eternal salvation remains intact and untouched, for eternal life is a free gift apart from works - Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23.
In conclusion, UNFAITHFUL Christians in this life who lived disobediently and carnally will experience chastisement in this life from God including SICKNESS and premature PHYSICAL DEATH for some - 1 John 5:16-17, Proverbs 15:10, Hebrews 12:5-11, Jeremiah 2:19, 1 Corinthians 11:29-30, Acts 5:1-10, and a forfeiture of ETERNAL REWARDS at the Judgment Seat of Christ, but loss of eternal life is NEVER one of the consequences - 1 Corinthians 3:15, 2 Timothy 2:13.

I believe that many Christians have misunderstood the verses Ephesians 2:8-10 - that God's grace alone can save you. No.
The "work" that these verses are referring to is man's self-rightousness and pride in their own work -- that's why it said "lest any man should boast". Meaning, we should not work on our own and be prideful of what we accomplished without God..because all our abilities, intelligence, and talents have all been bestowed to us by God.
We are still required to do good works - with God as our guide...as it is said in Ephesians 2:10
Dictionary says "unto" is another form of the word "to".
And so, in Ephesians 2:10 where it says"For we are his (God's) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto (to) good works..." this means we are created to do good works in the name of Jesus and as guided by God.
And what are those good works?? Didnt Jesus say (i forgot which part in the bible He said these): "for when I am hungry, you fed me, when Im naked you clothed me (im paraphrasing)....when you do these to one of my brothers, you do it to Me (or something to these effects).
Meaning, our good works should be done unto (to) others by loving our enemies, feeding the hungry, clothing and sheltering the poor, and not being judgemental of others (lest we be judged).
Without good works, your faith is dead and has no meaning -- and so you will not be worthy to receive God's grace.

Matthew 7:21 - "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven."
the term "doeth" is an old English version of the verb "do"
-- this means there's something that we must do before we can enter heaven
-- and what is it that we must do? why, the will of God of course
-- and what is the will of God? why, to do and follow all of His Commandments and rules of course. one of which is to love thy neighbor like we love ourselves
-- and who is your neighbor? why, that's someone who does not live in your own house of course
-- that means you must love each and every person all over the world

My simple thought, faith alone saves us. If works were necessary to get into heaven then Jesus’ sacrifice isn’t sufficient for our salvation, which is against biblical doctrine. God sent Jesus to be the atonement for our sins...
WITH THAT BEING SAID, do not use this to justify living in sin. Continuing to live in sin even after the repentance of your sins calls into question whether your repentance was genuine or not. The Bible says “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:9-10‬ ‭
When we confess our sins with our hearts and our mouth, the Holy Spirit enters us. We then begin to grow in our walk with God. If you use Jesus as a get out of jail free card, either u are misinterpreting the message or your confession wasn’t genuine. Yes sin doesn’t go away right away and certain sin takes time. A solid test is if certain things you did before now seem like sin, the Holy Spirit might be working in you.
What I’m saying is... if you genuinely confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior, DONT WORRY ABOUT WORKS. Your works happen naturally. I remember thinking I wasn’t doing enough, instead now I recognize that I’m saved by faith in Jesus and that works will come naturally through reading and praying. Hopes this made sense

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” I rest in that. Piper’s assertion that faith only gets God “on our side” and that works (how many? How pure?) are required to get us into Heaven is nothing but Roman Catholicism without the hope of purgatory.

Hm, I think the fruit is either present or it is not, not so much a matter of how much we need to meet a quota. I also think that producing fruit/works/sanctification IS necessary for salvation, but remembering the fruit "that we produce" is not actually our own (as Piper says) but a result of abiding in Jesus/being justified/having saving faith.
Could be totally wrong though, but I think that's what the bible says

The problem with saying not faith alone is someone might say “I don’t have enough works or fruit” and look to something else than putting FAITH in Jesus and walking in the spirit to have and bear works. But it’s through him in your faith in him alone. This is dangerous for certain believers such as new ones because they will simply hear the words not faith alone and could possible force works, and have them be unfruitful and doubt there faith making harder for them to grow. Doubt John Piper will see this. hope he does so he can respond because he lays out saved by faith alone, but does not call it that, and uses language that acts like it adds to faith but it doesn’t and that alone is dangerous.

9not by works, so that no one can boast.
Our works we've done regardless of how noble or much (Outside of Christ) are as filthy rags in God's eyes.
Paul makes clear that we are to do works in Christ Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

James 2:14 What doth it profit,my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
      James 2:17-19
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Repentance is believing. The Greek word metanoia. It means to change your mind and believe John 6:47. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH EVERLASTING LIFE. Do you believe God is a liar? If you say you do not believe John 6:47, then you are calling God a liar. John 3:18. Believes can no longer be condemned, but unbelievers are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. First John 2:2. Since Jesus paid my sin debt in full, past, present, and future sins I have not even thought of yet. (Romans 4:7-8), I can not go to hell because I have no sins to pay for. You follow
The new age so-called free grace movement that started in the 1980's by Charles Ryrie and Zane Hodges, along with Hank Lindstrom and Curtis Hutson they "rewrote" in essence much of scripture that, completely moved away from repenting of sin, the teaching priority of Jesus,John the Baptist Peter and Paul in essence creating a license to sin with the promise of simply believing at one point, and the promise of eternal life regardless of how you live.
The perfect laws of God that we couldn't keep so Jesus died and rose again as our sacrifice. Now suddenly we're told we must not change our mind about our sinful life's (Repent) because doing so is adding works to be under Grace, we don't even have to obey God's law, being carnal may only cause a loss of rewards. No need to even walk in Holiness.
This demonic deception doctrine will cause countless people eternal separation in the lake of fire.

There are three kinds of people!! One is charge with the crimes of breaking God laws!! He is escorted into the presence of God , the Judge!! The Judge ask him whether he has a lawyer to represent him!! But he doesn’t need one !! He cares nothing about his crimes nor did he feel any guilt !! He doesn’t care about sins in his life nor did he care about anything of God!! The judge found him guilty for breaking God’s laws and sentence him to eternal separation!! The second kind came before the God and told God, Lord I have made many mistakes in life and I have done many wrongs BUT ever since I try my best to live right for you !! I try to do good!! I attended church !! I became a member!! I took my children to Sunday schools and I try my best to keep your laws! By my conscience of right and wrong, I depend and trust in my work to do good and receive forgiveness from you!! I believe that based on my performance in life of good things, you would accept me and pardon my past and future sins! God ask , did you seek a lawyer to represent you ?? The man say no God, I figure I represent myself because I have change and started to live right!! God reply ... As much as I would like to pardon you , I cannot!! You have broken my laws and is guilty !! You have no one to represent you !! No matter how good you change , you cannot undo the laws you have broken nor can you be pardon!! Only through the shredding of innocent blood 🩸 can I pardon you !! You are wrong in believing and trusting in your own goodness to be pardon!! You have not received and trust my offer of grace to saved you !! You are still guilty and I sentence you to eternal separation!! The Third kind came before the Judge !! He would not look upon the judge face!! God say ... I see you have someone to represent you as your lawyer!! The man say yes ... your honor!! I am guilty for breaking your laws in life and I deserve my punishment!! But I have heard of a lawyer name Jesus that could represent me and offer me a plea bargain and pardon my crimes!! Your Honor, you have made a time period of your mercy and grace , and provided forgiveness to all criminals to want pardon!! The Judge reply ... yes I have!! I gave the nation a grace period to have a lawyer name Jesus that can plea on their behalf for pardon!! God say .. I have see you have taken and received my offer !! Jesus the lawyer approach the Judge and say.. yes this man had come to me for forgiveness and pardon for his crimes!! The Judge to Jesus can you explain why he will be pardon!! Jesus Turns to the man and say... I have took the punishment for you breaking God laws !! I became the criminal and took your spot !! I was punished for your crimes and sins !! My plea bargain is my blood 🩸!! Only through the shedding of my blood can you be forgiven for breaking God laws! I die in your place for you and I was resurrected to give you eternal life as oppose to eternal separation ! My blood is more than enough to forgive and pardon you !! You are not guilty nor is you condemn by my laws!! God say... I am a Just and Holy God!! I must punish sin and crimes for breaking my laws!! But I am also Gracious and merciful!! I have given the nation a grace period to be forgiven to all who accept and receive my Grace!! I am a Just Judge!! At the same time I justified those that receive my offer through Jesus!! You are pardon by my mercy and grace !! You believe in my Goodness that I have offer the nation and you believe and receive Jesus to represent you and give you a plea bargain of forgiveness!! You are forgiven Because you have believe and trusted in my Grace and Mercy for your life!! I find you not guilty in my courtroom!! We as true believers saved by the grace of our Lord Jesus , knows that we are children adopted into the family of a God!! The Holy Spirit sealed us unto the day of redemption!! We are already redeemed in our spirit by his blood 🩸!! Only through blood 🩸 can sins be forgiven!! The gospel is... that Christ die for our sins according to scripture and that he rose on the third day!! His death and blood is our forgiveness!! His resurrection is our eternal life!! We are baptized into his death , burial and resurrection!! We are united in Him, by Him, and through Him!! We are in Christ!! Christ in you , the hope of glory!! The mystery of the body of Christ and the mystery of godliness!! We as believers are under a law!! But it is not the same law that false teachers and pastors are teaching now a day!! They are not teachers of the gospel of Jesus Christ reveal to Paul!! They are teaching another gospel!! Let them be cursed!! We as believers are still under a LAW!! But it is the LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS!! The law of faith ! The law of grace!! The law of the spirit of life has set me FREE from the law of sin and death!! Millions do not know the Word of God and cannot RIGHTLY DIVIDE the words of God !! Why??? Because they don’t have the Holy Spirit of Truth!! Satan transform himself into an angel of light ( God) it would be normals that he would have used people as minsters ( teachers or pastors) of unrighteousness teaching false doctrines!! Seducing doctrine mix with a little truth and error!! Many denomination coming in the name of Jesus are teaching another gospel and doctrine of demons and traditions of men!! Be careful of false doctrines and apostasy!! Apostasy is the falling away from the the message of the Gospel of Grace !! It is teaching and believing ANOTHER GOSPEL other than the only Gospel of Jesus which is Salvation by Faith alone!! Believing in the finished Work of Jesus!! Without the Holy Spirit man is deceived !! No matter how intelligent or wise they think, they will be deceived and confused ! We do good works because the Holy Spirit lives in us!! He produces desires and fruits of his Spirit!! It is the fruits of the Spirit not our fruits!! The Holy Spirit heart ❤️ and our hearts become one united together by Love!! Jesus blood 🩸 mad that unity possible in our spirit!! The Bible say if we believe, we have the witness of the Spirit in our hearts!! This means there are three life changing principles in the Christian life!! First is God FACTS ! Secondly is our FAITH and Third is our FEELINGS!! God Words are FACTS!! 1) God Promises = This is my FACTS! 2) I believe = This is my faith 3) God fullfilled it and I ENJOY it= This is my FEELINGS. God order is always 1) FACTS. 2) FAITH. 3) FEELINGS. FACTS forms the foundation; faith rest on it; feeling comes last!! Most of us put FEELINGS FIRST!! God salvation is here!! But because we have free will , God cannot force us to believe in His Gospel!! When we BELIEVE what God say, we get SAVED by God!! Faith is not what saved us!! It is the means by which God save us!! When we believe , we have the witness of the Holy Spirit within us of what God say!! If God say by believing and receiving Jesus we becomes the sons of God, then it is 100 % a Facts!! We believe that and our feeling of Joy is experience in our hearts!! We at times may not FEEL saved but we are not saved by our feeling but by God FACTS!! We believe and trust what God say we are!! God Facts are God words!! His words are truth !! So We are saved by believing in what God say in the Gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If you confessed the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead to forgive your sins and give you eternal life, then you are SAVED!! Do you believe what God say??? Is God a liar??? Salvation is the greatest and most joyful gifts and experience a person can have but they must understand these life changing orders God gives!! 1) Facts 2 ) faith) 3)feelings!! They comes in those EXACT ORDER! a) God say it b) I believe it c) I then experience it in my heart! When God sealed us with the Holy Spirit, He produces news desires and love for Jesus! We want to please God!! And if we sin, our heart doesn’t feel right because the Holy Spirit lives in us!! So he prompt us to confess those sins because His blood 🩸 covers all sins for all times!! But here is the kicker!! We don’t desires to live a sinful life!! The attraction to live a life of sin is diminishing little by little!! Another Word , without Believing the gospel of Jesus Christ, we will not be given the Holy Spirit!! Then we won’t desire the things of God!! So believe in the good news ❤️😊!! We are saved to do good works!! We do not do good works to be saved independently from Jesus !! But that we produce fruits of the Spirit because the Holy Spirit reside in us!! The most liberating message for those that are saved is SONSHIP!! This is your standing and status !! Your new IDENTITY in CHRIST!! You have die with Christ!! All your sins are forgiven and all legal obligations to the law has been canceled by your death!! You have been crucified with Christ!! Now you are marry to a NEW LAW!! It is the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus!! You are still under a law!! But a new law!! The law of faith! The law of grace!! The law of the spirit of life!! When you realize who you are in Christ Jesus, your whole life will change!! Your self image and self worth and how you see yourself will be given a new set of eyes!! You are the Righteousness of God!! But you must receive this status with HUMILITY!! You cannot become spiritually PRIDEFUL and ARROGANT!! You must receive Grace with Humility!Amen

Brother I've been in the same boat as you. Eventually it became plain to me that those I listened to claimed they were Christians when in fact they were not. Living a Holy life is not required for salvation, but our reasonable service for all Jesus has done for us. The works Christians SHOULD (not must) walk in were preset by God. We still live in the flesh, we still sin daily, we don't always do what we should, but we rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ who gives us HIS righteousness, by faith through God's grace. Our faith was not produced by ourselves but given to us by God. When we believe on Jesus our faith is more than sufficient to eternally secure us in Jesus Christ. Trust Jesus not yourself. That's what I needed to learn. God bless.

No it doesn't make sense I've asked for answers For long time very long I've received nothing I tried to be a Christian and it doesn't work I didn't add up to all the good works like going to daily churches and reading the Bible daily and fasting and praying till my knees are numb now all I ever do is pray but only to ask for forgiveness and I'm tired of asking apologies to things u do over and over again and change is not something I know how to do because I know being a Christian is not "not doing the things you know u love and doing the things you know you hate" I don't understand

Romans 4:5-8 But to him that worketh not, but believe on Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Faith alone in Christ alone plus nothing. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputeth righteousness without works, Blessed is the man whose sins are covered, Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, and we all die, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Faith alone in Christ alone.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace ye are saved, through FAITH, and that not of yourselves, It is the GIFT of God, NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast. Faith alone in Christ alone.
John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day. Faith alone in Christ alone.
Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after ye heard the word if truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed by that Holy Spirit of promise. Who is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory. Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Sprit in whom ye are SEALED, UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION.
Romans 3:23 All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. ALL, not some, but ALL. Romans 3:10 There is none righteous, no not one. We are all sinners, justified by faith alone in Jesus finished work on the cross ALONE.
We are no longer under the law, but under grace. If we were still under the law, we would have something to boast in. Under grace, we have nothing to boast in.
Jesus fulfilled the law for us so that we can be justified through Him.
First John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God, doeth not commit sin, for HIS SEED, (the Holy Spirit ) remaineth in him, and HE can not sin, for HE is born of God. The Holy Spirit that lives in the born again believer can not sin.
But we still do, First John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Salvation is a free gift from God by faith alone in Christ alone plus nothing. No works. It is a Spiritual birth, not a physical birth. John 6:37 He will never cast us out. Hebrews 13:5 He will never leave us or forsake us. John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. And my Father, who is greater than all, no one can pluck them out of His hand.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE. Present tense. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, THAT YE MAY KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Jesus paid for it with His own blood sacrifice for all sin forever. ROMANS 11:6 AMAZING GRACE, JESUS PAID IT ALL AND WE PAID 0. IT IS FREE, or not at all. No man can earn it. A one time faith alone in Christ's finished work on the cross alone plus nothing. I have nothing to boast in but the cross.

One of the most misunderstood verses in the BIBLE: Ephesians 2:8-9 is being read as being saved by grace, YES but what is this salvation that does not require works? Is this eternal life already? This is NOT! (2Peter 15-16) This is the folly of the Baptists and most born again groups. That verse says it's the start of salvation because you still need to do good works, walk in the path that God has set forth after believing in Jesus. The next verse is always being cut off:
10 For we are His workmanship, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand SO THAT WE WOULD WALK IN THEM.
      - Ephesians 2:10
The salvation or redemption in Ephesians 2:8-9 is in context with:
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
      - Colossians 1:13-14
The forgiveness of sins! We were forgiven of our sins and has been transferred from darkness into Christ's kingdom. That is the grace because how are you able to do good works in Ephesians 2:10 (above) if you were still separated from Christ?
5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can DO NOTHING.
      - John 15:5
You need to abide in Christ and Christ abides in you.
You are sealed by the Holy Spirit for redemption. But what if you grieve the Holy Spirit?
30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, [w]by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
      -Ephesians 4:30
*** THE WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE WHETHER YOU ARE A BELIEVER OR NOT ***
13 The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, for THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN.
14 For God will bring EVERY DEED INTO JUDGEMENT, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
      - Ecclesiastes @-14 (Proverbs 8:13, Romans 13:8-11)
      - Galatians 5:14
NOTE: Even those who have not heard of the gospel and Christ's commandments are not exempt from the Law. There is a law in their hearts that God has put in, which we call CONSCIENCE.
12 For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; 13 for not the hearers of the Law are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having [o]the Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, 16 on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
      - Romans 2:12-16
*** FOR BELIEVERS THIS IS WHAT"S REQUIRED ***
6 He will render to each one ACCORDING TO HIS WORKS:
      7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
      - Romans 2:6-7
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one WHO DOES the will of my Father who is in heaven.
      - Matthew 7:21
Whoever has my commandments AND KEEPS THEM, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
      - John 14:21 (Jn 13:34-35, Romans 13:8-11)
And being made perfect, he became the source of ETERNAL SALVATION TO ALL WHO OBEY him,
      - Hebrews 5:9
6 If anyone DOES NOT ABIDE IN ME he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
10 If you KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
      - John 15:6 and 10
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
      - John 14:23
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand, THAT WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM.
      - Ephesians 2:10
17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, WHAT WILL BE THE OUTCOME FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT OBEY THE GOSPEL OF GOD?
18 And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator WHILE DOING GOOD.
      - 1 Peter 4:17-19
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING,
      - Philippians 2:12
      AND IN CONCLUSION:
36 Then He left the crowds and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.” 37 And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 38 and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil ; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels. 40 So just as the tares are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and THOSE WHO COMMIT LAWLESSNESS, 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.- Matthew 13:36-42

      How to be born again;
When God's Holy Spirit nudges you ( to come to Him)
You simply say Jesus I am sorry for how I've been living, I know I'm a sinner, I believe You died for my sins and rose again I ask you from my heart to forgive my past sins (Repent) and I ask you to be my Lord and Savior.
From this moment on I will serve you. Thank you Jesus.
      Romans 10:9-10
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Our life will now start going in the opposite direction.
We will at times sin but it won't be a continual thing if we are walking with Him in the Spirit.
      If we sin 1John1:9
(If) we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We are forgiven (if) we confess to Him and ask for forgiveness.
If we don't ask for forgiveness we won't be.

You have twisted the word repent to mean turn from sin. It is the Greek word, metanoia. Change your mind and believe on Jesus for the free gift of eternal life. Acts 16:31. John 6:47. John 6:40.
Romans 6:23 For the penalty for sin is death, and we all sin, First John 1:8, and we all die, But the GIFT of God is eternal life.
A gift is paid in full by the giver. A reward is something you earn or work for. The GIFT of God is eternal life. Once you accept the GIFT you have everlasting life. Gods word. John 3:18. You either believe it or you don't.
John 3:16. Jesus said it, we believe it and that settles it. I have eternal life now. I cannot lose it because it is eternal life. John 10:28-29. Gods word again. Romans 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, First Corinthians 15:3-4, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVETH, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 4:5-8. He has imputed His perfect righteousness to me and will no more impute sin to my account. Romans 3:26-28. Jesus paid it all and I paid 0. You cannot boast in 0.

New Testament is Greek and Repent means change your mind.
Old Testament is Hebrew and Repent means turn away from.
Therefore Repent means change your mind and turn away from.
I know Yankeeism teaches you don't repent of your sins but scripture is clear even in KJV. Luke 15:7
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”
      Mark 1:15 KJV
15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Change your mind and turn away from (sin ) and believe. Jesus never said believe only. Psalms 32:5 KJV
I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
      2 Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance
      2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
I hope this makes it clear that KJV also says we must repent of our sins regardless of what Yankeeism teaches..

If turning from sin would save you, you have made the cross of Christ of no effect. The word is repent. It is never found in the gospel of John one time. It was for the Jews who rejected Jesus as their savior. They needed to repent, change their mind and accept Him as their Messiah. But they would not.
Acts 16:31. Romans 6:23 For the penalty of sin is death, And we all sin, First John 1:8, and we all die, but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. A GIFT is paid in full by the giver. A reward is something you earn or work for. No one can earn heaven. Romans 11:6. Romans 4:5.
First John 2:2 And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world. John 3:16. Once we believe it we are saved forever. John 1:12. Gods word and He cannot lie. John 10:28-29. Gods word. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. We have it now. We cannot lose it because it is eternal life.
You either are or you are not saved. John 3:18. Bottom line. Believers are no longer condemned to hell. We can be chastened by the Lord even to losing our life, but we can not lose eternal life or that would make God a liar. And God cannot lie. John 6:47. Acts 16:31. Colossians 2:13. Colossians 3:1-3. Chastening for the children of God who are living in sin but still saved. Colossians 3:5-6 The wrath of God comes on the SONS of disobedience. Believers. John 6:47. Unbelievers are condemned already.

Sanctification drags us into good works

  • @Mimu1983
    @Mimu1983 6 лет назад +3

How are we saved? By the grace alone and by faith alone. The grace of God enables us to believe, and faith is the work of God. This is of Reformed theology, not a reduced gospel which one parrots Sola Fide without understanding. Our WORKS, the fruits, never are ours but of the works of God through us; sanctification is of God's grace conforming us to the likeness of Christ. Salvation is the work of God and we bear fruits because our Almighty Father re-created us and through the Holy Spirit only can we bear the fruits of obedience and holiness.

Mimu1983... So is it it by Gods grace we have faith or our own doing, This is pretty long but is right out of the Catholic Catechism let me know what you think. CHAPTER THREE
      GOD'S SALVATION: LAW AND GRACE
      ARTICLE 2
      GRACE AND JUSTIFICATION
      I. JUSTIFICATION
1987 The grace of the Holy Spirit has the power to justify us, that is, to cleanse us from our sins and to communicate to us "the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ" and through Baptism:34
But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. The death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves as dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.35
1988 Through the power of the Holy Spirit we take part in Christ's Passion by dying to sin, and in his Resurrection by being born to a new life; we are members of his Body which is the Church, branches grafted onto the vine which is himself:36
[God] gave himself to us through his Spirit. By the participation of the Spirit, we become communicants in the divine nature. . . . For this reason, those in whom the Spirit dwells are divinized.37
1989 The first work of the grace of the Holy Spirit is conversion, effecting justification in accordance with Jesus' proclamation at the beginning of the Gospel: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."38 Moved by grace, man turns toward God and away from sin, thus accepting forgiveness and righteousness from on high. "Justification is not only the remission of sins, but also the sanctification and renewal of the interior man.39
1990 Justification detaches man from sin which contradicts the love of God, and purifies his heart of sin. Justification follows upon God's merciful initiative of offering forgiveness. It reconciles man with God. It frees from the enslavement to sin, and it heals.
1991 Justification is at the same time the acceptance of God's righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ. Righteousness (or "justice") here means the rectitude of divine love. With justification, faith, hope, and charity are poured into our hearts, and obedience to the divine will is granted us.
1992 Justification has been merited for us by the Passion of Christ who offered himself on the cross as a living victim, holy and pleasing to God, and whose blood has become the instrument of atonement for the sins of all men. Justification is conferred in Baptism, the sacrament of faith. It conforms us to the righteousness of God, who makes us inwardly just by the power of his mercy. Its purpose is the glory of God and of Christ, and the gift of eternal life:40
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins; it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies him who has faith in Jesus.41
1993 Justification establishes cooperation between God's grace and man's freedom. On man's part it is expressed by the assent of faith to the Word of God, which invites him to conversion, and in the cooperation of charity with the prompting of the Holy Spirit who precedes and preserves his assent:
When God touches man's heart through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, man himself is not inactive while receiving that inspiration, since he could reject it; and yet, without God's grace, he cannot by his own free will move himself toward justice in God's sight.42
1994 Justification is the most excellent work of God's love made manifest in Christ Jesus and granted by the Holy Spirit. It is the opinion of St. Augustine that "the justification of the wicked is a greater work than the creation of heaven and earth," because "heaven and earth will pass away but the salvation and justification of the elect . . . will not pass away."43 He holds also that the justification of sinners surpasses the creation of the angels in justice, in that it bears witness to a greater mercy.
1995 The Holy Spirit is the master of the interior life. By giving birth to the "inner man,"44 justification entails the sanctification of his whole being:
Just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield your members to righteousness for sanctification. . . . But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is sanctification and its end, eternal life.45
      II. GRACE
1996 Our justification comes from the grace of God. Grace is favor, the free and undeserved help that God gives us to respond to his call to become children of God, adoptive sons, partakers of the divine nature and of eternal life.46
1997 Grace is a participation in the life of God. It introduces us into the intimacy of Trinitarian life: by Baptism the Christian participates in the grace of Christ, the Head of his Body. As an "adopted son" he can henceforth call God "Father," in union with the only Son. He receives the life of the Spirit who breathes charity into him and who forms the Church.
1998 This vocation to eternal life is supernatural. It depends entirely on God's gratuitous initiative, for he alone can reveal and give himself. It surpasses the power of human intellect and will, as that of every other creature.47
1999 The grace of Christ is the gratuitous gift that God makes to us of his own life, infused by the Holy Spirit into our soul to heal it of sin and to sanctify it. It is the sanctifying or deifying grace received in Baptism. It is in us the source of the work of sanctification:48
Therefore if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself.49
2000 Sanctifying grace is an habitual gift, a stable and supernatural disposition that perfects the soul itself to enable it to live with God, to act by his love. Habitual grace, the permanent disposition to live and act in keeping with God's call, is distinguished from actual graces which refer to God's interventions, whether at the beginning of conversion or in the course of the work of sanctification.
2001 The preparation of man for the reception of grace is already a work of grace. This latter is needed to arouse and sustain our collaboration in justification through faith, and in sanctification through charity. God brings to completion in us what he has begun, "since he who completes his work by cooperating with our will began by working so that we might will it:"50
Indeed we also work, but we are only collaborating with God who works, for his mercy has gone before us. It has gone before us so that we may be healed, and follows us so that once healed, we may be given life; it goes before us so that we may be called, and follows us so that we may be glorified; it goes before us so that we may live devoutly, and follows us so that we may always live with God: for without him we can do nothing.51
2002 God's free initiative demands man's free response, for God has created man in his image by conferring on him, along with freedom, the power to know him and love him. The soul only enters freely into the communion of love. God immediately touches and directly moves the heart of man. He has placed in man a longing for truth and goodness that only he can satisfy. The promises of "eternal life" respond, beyond all hope, to this desire:
If at the end of your very good works . . ., you rested on the seventh day, it was to foretell by the voice of your book that at the end of our works, which are indeed "very good" since you have given them to us, we shall also rest in you on the sabbath of eternal life.52
2003 Grace is first and foremost the gift of the Spirit who justifies and sanctifies us. But grace also includes the gifts that the Spirit grants us to associate us with his work, to enable us to collaborate in the salvation of others and in the growth of the Body of Christ, the Church. There are sacramental graces, gifts proper to the different sacraments. There are furthermore special graces, also called charisms after the Greek term used by St. Paul and meaning "favor," "gratuitous gift," "benefit."53 Whatever their character - sometimes it is extraordinary, such as the gift of miracles or of tongues - charisms are oriented toward sanctifying grace and are intended for the common good of the Church. They are at the service of charity which builds up the Church.54
2004 Among the special graces ought to be mentioned the graces of state that accompany the exercise of the responsibilities of the Christian life and of the ministries within the Church:
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.55
2005 Since it belongs to the supernatural order, grace escapes our experience and cannot be known except by faith. We cannot therefore rely on our feelings or our works to conclude that we are justified and saved.56 However, according to the Lord's words "Thus you will know them by their fruits"57 - reflection on God's blessings in our life and in the lives of the saints offers us a guarantee that grace is at work in us and spurs us on to an ever greater faith and an attitude of trustful poverty.

One day those who do not want to obey Jesus and want to be ok by doing evil, will stand before Jesus and says Lord Lord did we not have faith in you,did we not get baptized, did we not do miracles, prophecy in your name, did we not manifest gifts of the spirit and zero fruits of Spirit? Then the Lord says depart from me you EVILDOERS. In other translation it says depart from me you who are lawless. Then the people will say Lord we thought even though we do evil,we are saved by faith and you reject us based on evil works? Then Jesus says Have you not read Parable on ten virgins where all the 10 virgins are born again but only 5 have oil in their lamps.Only 5 prepared themselves. Then the people will say Lord do we need oil/preparation to be saved we thought we are justified by faith alone no matter what we do or we don't do we will go to heaven.Jesus says because you didn't care about the oil and preparation, depart from me i never know you.
Paul scriptures are totally misunderstood by many..Many misunderstood. This prophecy is already told by peter in his second letter 3:16 he says unstable, unlearned people will misinterpret his scriptures.
First of all salvation is given only to those who are truly repented at heart and who have genuine faith in Jesus who produces the fruits of repentance(good works).I recommend everyone read all the new testament letters written by paul, peter, john. You will understand the real meaning of FAITH which Paul used.

False teachers are everywhere. And this man is no exception. John 3:18 Once you believe you can no longer be condemned. Unbelievers are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. This man believes Jesus died in vain, and we can save ourselves. He has not done the will of God. John 6:40 And this is the will of Him who sent me, that ALL that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day. John 3:16 is true, but most do not believe it. Most are trusting in what they do to save themselves. Matthew 7:21-23 They will still be boasting in their good works as they drop in to hell.
Salvation by works never works. Only by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. You can not boast in free. Romans

The following Scriptures expose and refute John Piper's errant view of salvation through the tainted lens of Calvinism:
John 5:24 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is PASSED from death unto life.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 3:20 - Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:28 - Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 4:2-6 - 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
    Romans 9:32 - Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
Romans 10:4 - For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Romans 11:6 - And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
Galatians 2:16 - Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Galatians 2:21 - I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Galatians 3:6 - Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
Galatians 5:4 - Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
    Titus 3:5 - Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Interesting to note that he *never once mentioned repentance.* He's actually preaching a *different gospel* than what Jesus told His disciples to preach:
⚫ "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that *repentance and remission of sins* should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." (Luke 24:45-47)
Yes, we've all sinned, and our sins have separated us from God (Is 59:1,2). So, how do we receive His mercy and grace? Through repentance, confessing *and forsaking* sin:
⚫ "He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13)
⚫ "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him . . . " (Isaiah 55:7)
Pastor John's message? Just "trust" that Jesus paid for all your sins, and you're "saved," instantly (no need to "endure to the end," Matthew 10:22). That "faith alone" message is popular but beware: "faith alone" is a sly sneaky way of saying neither repentance nor obedience are needed for salvation!
Truth is, we are commanded to repent, and *our sins remain - NOT blotted out - until we come to repentance:*
⚫ "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30)
⚫ "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19, NKJV).
That's right: our sins were not blotted out when Jesus died on the cross. Jesus made His death *available* to cover our death penalty. We can have that coverage, that mercy, that grace, that *redemption* IF we'll obey and come to Him on His terms, in repentance. Otherwise we will perish, paying our own death penalty. That's why Jesus warned:
⚫ "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:5)
So you see, your sins were not "paid for on the cross": you'll pay for them yourself unless you come to God in repentance. Yes, Jesus died for our sins as stated in 1 Cor 15:3. Jesus made His death available as a payment of our death penalty. He made His death available as a ransom payment for any and all who will come to Him in repentance, turning from sin that earns the death penalty in the first place.
If we'll come to repentance our past sins will be blotted out, and we'll have redemption from the death penalty we had earned for those past sins. Then, no longer separated from God by past sins - and no longer under condemnation - we'll enter justification with God. We are reconciled or made right with God. No longer separated, we can begin a new life - "times of refreshing" in "the presence of the Lord":
⚫ "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord" (Acts 3:19, NKJV).
How are we in "the presence of the Lord"? Through the gift of the holy spirit, given "to them that obey Him" and repent:
⚫ "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." (Acts 5:32)
⚫ "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)
Through the holy spirit Jesus leads us to overcome slavery to sin, preparing us to receive the gift of eternal life as one of His family, and to inherit the kingdom of God:
⚫ "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." (Jesus, in Revelation 3:19)
⚫ "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son." (Revelation 21:7)
Does entering justification mean you're saved? No. In this mortal life believers have "the hope of salvation." We'll be saved when we actually receive the promised gift of eternal life at Jesus' "revelation" or return. Justification and salvation are different things, at different times:
⚫ "But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, *the hope of salvation.*
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but *to obtain salvation* by our Lord Jesus Christ" (Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 5:8,9).
⚫ "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we *shall be saved,* even as they." (Acts 15: 11; Peter, speaking to apostles and elders about future salvation for both themselves and Gentiles.)
⚫ "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." (Paul, in Romans 5:9)
⚫ "And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life" (1 John 2:25).
⚫ "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" (1 Peter 1:13)
What if we revert back to a life of sin, no longer in repentance, no longer abiding in Him? Then we have fallen away from justification and have "failed of the grace of God" (Hebrews 6:4-6, 12:15). We're no longer on the "narrow way" that leads to eternal life. We have many warnings to "give diligence to make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10,11), to continue to abide in Him and to "remain in His goodness, otherwise thou also shalt be cut off":
⚫ "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." (Jesus, in John 15:6)
⚫ "For if God spared not the natural branches [the Israelites], take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." (Romans 11:21,22)
⚫ "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it." (Hebrews 4:1)
    ▬▬▬▬▬
So how does faith fit in? It is *through* faith - that God exists and rewards - that we could and might choose to "come to God" in repentance, confessing and forsaking sin. For *that* we receive His promised mercy and grace . . . NOT just because we *have* faith. Even with faith we could choose to remain in our old lives, preferring the approval and attractions of the world. There IS such a thing as dead faith.
Without faith that God exists and rewards we *could* not choose to come to Him:
⚫ "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith is given to us (Eph 2:8) to call us. Question is, will we answer the call, and "come to God" on His terms?

First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Romans3:26-28 For He is the just and the justifier of them that BELIEVE in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? By the law of works? Nay, but by the law of FAITH. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by FAITH apart from the deeds of the law.
Romans 4:5-8 But to him that worketh not, but believeth in Him who justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. I sincerely hope you read the verses below very carefully and meditate on them for your soul's sake:
First by believing we are JUSTIFIED and then we are REQUIRED a life of SANCTIFICATION, BUT what happens then afterwards if you fall away? Nobody is guaranteed eternal life until they have finished their race!
4 For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, [d]since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.- Hebrews 6:4-6
24 “But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them HE WILL DIE.
      - Ezekiel 18:24
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth DEATH.
      James 1:15
16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life-to those who commit sins THAT DO NOT LEAD TO DEATH. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.
      - 1 John 5:16
20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them. 22 [h]It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, to wallowing in the mire.”- 2Peter 2:20-22
WHAT IS THIS DEATH THEN, SURELY MAN IS DESTINED TO DIE (PHYSICALLY).
8 But for the cowardly and [a]unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and [b]brimstone, which is the SECOND DEATH.”
      - Revelation 21:8
YES, YOU MAY HAVE BEEN SAVED BY GRACE FROM THE FIRST SPIRITUAL DEATH WHICH IS MENTIONED IN (Ephesians 2:8-9 and other letters that Paul wrote about) BUT IF YOU TURN AWAY YOU WILL ALSO BE SUBJECTED TO THE SECOND SPIRITUAL DEATH!
SALVATION Step 1 - from the first spiritual death, we were DEAD in SIN (Ephesians 2:5-6, just above the famous 8 and 9 verse). We are redeemed from SIN! (Colossians 1:13-14)
SALVATION Step 2 - from the second spiritual death which is ETERNAL LIFE which requires perseverance, good works, to OBEY CHRIST's LAWS. WE NEED TO FINISH THE RACE like what the Apostle Paul did towards the end of his life, it is only then he claimed that he will receive eternal life. NOT DURING his RACE BUT WHEN HE FINISHED his RACE!
      Compare 1Corinthians 9:24-26 VERSUS 2Timothy 4:6-8
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
      1Corinthians 9:24-26
ONLY AT THIS POINT the apostle PAUL can confidently say that he will get his REWARD
6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
      - 2Timothy 4-6-8
      IN CONCLUSION
11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. HE WHO OVERCOMES WILL NOT BE HURT BY THE SECOND DEATH’
      - Revelation 2:11
6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; OVER THESE THE SECOND DEATH HAS NO POWER, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

On the other hand, we are exhorted in the letter that we should walk after the Spirit, and in the newness of life because of the new birth we received from God (see Romans 6:1-4). The last judgement is simply a restatement of that sentence of "not-guilty", with rewards pertaining to good works of course. Piper is making a necessary distinction between what is necessary and what is instrumental. Faith alone is instrumental, but it is not the only thing necessary for salvation. As stated in the Westminster Confession: " Although repentance be not to be rested in, as any satisfaction for sin, or any cause of the pardon thereof, which is the act of God’s free grace in Christ; yet it is of such necessity to all sinners, that none may expect pardon without it" To illustrate, consider calcium and vitamin D. Your doctor may prescribe calcium to keep your bones from going brittle (though there is little evidence that this works, but let's just assume it does for argument). You go to your pharmacist to purchase calcium, but your pharmacist recommends Vit D as well, explaining that calcium alone will do you no good, because your body needs Vit D to digest the calcium. The vitamin D is necessary, but it isn't instrumental in stopping bone loss, only the calcium is instrumental. In the same way, the Westminster Confession states that faith alone is instrumental in justifying a person before God, but it is necessary to repent and be baptized as well (Acts 2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

@@TheBibleSays thank you, but you need to analyze the context of James. Context is all that matters when you study the bible. James 2 is about "show me your faith without works and i'll show you mine by my works" God sees the heart and knows all. He doesn't need outward displays to know someone genuinely trusts him.
MAN judges by outer appearance so that's what James is talking about. Proving yourself to be a believer by your deeds. Don't look in a mirror and forget. Look at the word and DO it. That is what will benefit the church and the lost. It's not at all about HOW you get saved. It's not a salvific formula.
If you want to go on reading "saved" as always meaning from hell, you must have a problem with James where it says "one who turns a brother from his sin saves him!" so now Jesus isn't the only savior! And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for *now I know that thou fearest God,* seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me." (Genesis 22:11,12). Nothing to do with being justified to men.
True believers are those who - like Abraham - act on their faith and obey God. Jesus is "the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Hebrews 5:9).
We shall be "saved" - saved from ever perishing in death - when we actually receive the gift of eternal life at Jesus' return. Otherwise we'll perish, suffering the second death, after which there is no more hope of life or resurrection. Salvation is not about - and never was about - *_where_* we'll spend eternity. We won't even *_have_* an eternity - of any sort, anywhere - unless we receive the gift of eternal life.
Yes, there are multiple contexts and meanings for "saved." Believers *have been* saved, redeemed, from perishing as the wages of their past sins (Romans 3:25; 2 Peter 1:9). Now in justification (Romans 5:9), they *are being* saved . . . saved from slavery to sin - through Him. While they remain in justification and grace they have "the hope of salvation" (1 Thess 5:8,9). If they endure to the end they *shall be* saved when they receive the gift of eternal life at Jesus' return (1 Peter 1:13).

Let me add more on this ...

Please pray for me I had a radical transformation out of doom and hopelessness and into the hope and fellowship of God by His sovereign grace but because of the depravity of my “old man” I still struggle with some sins that I practice. I’m striving for that holiness and to live out my faith working through love.

When we accept Christ died on the cross so we could receive the gift of salvation, I feel we strive to walk as Christ walked. We walk in faith, love, peace, being humble, etc. Once we receive the Holy Spirit, I believe "works" are forthcoming because we love Christ and the Holy Father. Doing works, without the gift of salvation, will not get us into heaven. Only by using our free will and believing Christ died for our sins will get is into heaven. Again, works are the fruit of your faith. I pray a lot to walk the path of Christ and ask the Holy Spirit to guide me to being kind, loving, faithful, etc. All of these are what Christ was and did on earth. Sometimes things tend to sound so much more complicated than it really is. God bless 💓

Jesus Gave us His Gospel. Jesus said.."Obey My Sayings and Seek ME for Provision EveryDay..and the Father Will protect you from evil." I do not understand why there is even a question? Jesus told us clearly. You will not be Saved until you are doing this. Because you cannot be "saved from your sins" until you know what they are and stop doing them. This is what Jesus Said. Why do people not know? And why do not pastors tell people the Truth?
