The coverage these journalists provide requires courage. I can’t even imagine willingly choosing to report in areas where the threat of imprisonment or death is always present. What they have is more than just a job, it’s a calling

Why doesn't MSNBC, NBC, Fox News, CNN, NPR, cover this? And the other 2-3 other U.S. Hostages in Moscow.

Never again will I visit Russia. I was there in summer of 2013 by private invitation. I still have my visa. My host family was so incredibly nice to me. I was required to register with the local city hall within 7 days of my arrival. While I was there, I remember a police officer watching me with a lot of interest. My American accent is very noticeable. Looking back on that occasion, I wonder how close was I to becoming one of Putin's hostages?
I remember my host mom saying after we left city hall that if the police officer had approached me she was planning to start punching the guy while Yaromir and I ran away.

"Who needs me?" You are asking and calling me a clown as well. I'll answer:
I'm sure it was the monetary reward offered by the FSB for finding foreign nationals that was on the cop's mind. Putin has been stockpiling hostages for years. He doesn't need "me" for anything in particular. He needs other countries citizens for pawns.

@@genebrotherton9056LOL Thank you for not coming to Russia again. If you didn't like it here, we will only be happy if you don't visit our country again.

@@user-zb7ev2xe5d Wrong. I did like it there. I don't like the feeling that I'll be snatched up by desperate police officers who might want some extra cash to then be used as a tool by the Russian government.

Never forget Biden got back that paragon of America loving "female" basketball player all the while knowing this fellow American and others are in the same position as she was. Ok, maybe she wasn't as America loving as he is, but she plays basketball, what does he do?

I have little sympathy for Americans that go to Russia, Iran, NK, etc against State Dept warnings and then expect the US Government to give up a bunch of criminals or other concessions to get them out. I have no problem with people learning lessons the hard way. Sorry, WSJ. You and your staff need to make better decisions.

He was a journalist literally accredited by Russia and doing his job. I understand if it was someone else going there for a vacation, but Evan's situation is completely different and unexpected.
Journalists report from war zones and far more dangerous locations.
