Selling Colombian Food Out Of A Bedroom Window In Brooklyn
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- Through her project La TropiKitchen, Stephanie Bonnin makes handcrafted Colombian food and sells it from her apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Before COVID-19, Stephanie hosted pop-ups and dinner parties, but since the start of the pandemic, she's sold her arepas, enyucados, bollos, pasteles, and more directly from her bedroom window. Stephanie travels throughout Colombia to learn from local women about her country's varying culinary histories, from the Andes to the Amazon to major cities, then she takes this knowledge back to New York.

Hearing abuelita has passed from COVID was so sad, I started crying... may she Rest In Peace knowing she brought tons of people joy from her cooking ❤️
was not the covid....
@@thesapphirem5469 she literally said "abuelita passed from COVID" @5:00
Me too...
Indeed. Same here lost abuelita to Covid. :(
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
For everyone thinking that this video is going to get her evicted or shut down, FALSE. Stephanie moved last month to Europe to attend another renowned culinary school to further hone her skills.
What she's doing is typical in Colombia, many of our citizens make and sell food from home. I'm not saying that one way is right or wrong, I'm just pointing out that she's making Colombian food accessible in a culturally competent way. The people complaining are the same ones who would spend $5k on a trip to India but only eat at their hotel's buffet because the street food is "dirty". We all have different acceptable levels of risk and as a Colombian who has bought food from Stephanie before, I don't regret any of those tamales one bit!
Further proof that she’s doing for the love of food and to build her skills. That’s probably why she did this video. Also she’s barely even cooking in her kitchen. Looks like she’s doing it mostly at the community kitchen and just reheating and prepping at her house. No different than picking up home made from from your parents house.
Cierto. Y queremos segunda parte Vice.
I don't think anyone's thinking that
So she did get shut down lol
They obviously never been behind the scenes of some restaurants.
They wouldn't eat out again
Her place might be way better in terms of hygiene
I dunno why, but this woman Stephanie Bonnin is restoring my faith in the world today. There's lots of news about horrible people doing horrible things today. But there's this video of a woman doing a lot, working hard, cooking beautiful food, and for the right reasons. Thank you.
I bet there's tons of good stuff going on, but it's not shown. Only tragidies make headlines
RIP to Abuelita. Our grandmother’s prayers still cover us🙏🏾 we are a manifestation of our elders prayers, and Stephanie embodies this 100% Beautiful✨
Me too. My dad is from Barranquilla. After my abuelita passed my family hasn't been the same. ❤
She's my type of people!!! I love her fierceness, fearlessness, dexterity, authenticity, passion, drive!
Columbian ladies are wild af.
So many beautiful, talented, smart, creative women in this video that showed her the way too. She's something special for sure.
Seriously I learned so much about Colombia in these 13 minutes. She should have her own documentary to educate people.
Rip to the beautiful lady who's food is still bringing joy to the world.
Yeah that broke my heart hearing that. RIP señora.
What? Who died?
@@PITPOTSMEY the older lady who was teaching her the recipes and how to cook the food the authentic Columbian way. I think they say She passed of covid.
@Stephanie Barresi I know she was so selfless.
The way the cook laid on her was inspiring on how love and connection is the highest form of humility and respect for your friends and family.
God bless her soul.
Met her while interning a while back. So driven, so kind, and she let me borrow her cooking books :-)
@Sarah Wilson she pays her taxes just like you. she contributes to her community. what exactly did she do?
Look at her recent comment, she just hates Colombians, it seems. Qué triste jaja
@Sarah Wilson What an unnecessary comment from a racist, small-minded individual. Check your privilege Karen.
@Sarah Wilson youre the type of person to call the police on a child for selling water bottles just to go to Disney
Karen Wilson is gone 😂😂😂😂
Just FYI, she's a rockstar here in Colombia.
That's awesome!!! She's super fierce!!!
Doubt
Selling food illegally and VICE acts like it's special
@@Snarf_Le_Wombat Is subsistence and she does it with love, You dont know that...
donde? jamas habia oido de ella hasta ahora, y llevo trabajando de chef 15 años.
Her presentation is 5 star. I got hungry watching her food
I prefer mac Donald's
Thats 100 but her food doesnt look that good but her prestation is everthing
@@Donlightyearso basically her food looks good💀
I agree that food sure don’t look like homemade it’s like a restaurant
Where is she located? I hope to visit NYC ans visit her location she sure is an empowering female
This could be a Netflix special. Easily. Love it.
For sure
Maybe
Any woman who does old school cooking and takes it this serious down to the spices , the process, and ingredients u know the food gonna be delicious!! That tamale is huge and looks super tasty! Keep doing ur thing girl I wish her nothing but success!
This reminds me of a book called Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Hispanic culture is so vibrant, colorful, passionate, even aromatic if i dare say so myself. This woman can perfectly fit in that book.
jane29jeng I seen the movie, lol.
Where in the hell that E in "tamale" came from? TAMAL TAMAL TAMAL TAMAL
Dated a woman from Colombia. One of the best cooks I've ever met. To the point we compete with dishes lol A lot of women nowadays don't even know how to cook. All they know how to do is look cute for Instagram & spend money smh
I love this story & the fact that someone found it important enough to film & bring this story to us...Thank You. What a role model for women of any culture. She using what she knows & still she's learning & she said if she doesn't know how to make something she'll figure it out & she's made business & at the same time passing on her Colombian traditions. I Love it😆
For some reason, this woman who sells food from her bedroom, the food came out looking like it is from a high end restaurant. Not just looking delicious but plated beautifully. Wow!
If Stephanie called me Papi Chulo, you know I’m coming back everyday for Lunch!
😂🙏🏻
she fine too
🤣
RIP ABUELITA😭💔keep spreading Latino love around the world respects from Panamá
This is who we the people need feeding us not McDonald’s or bk.
Meh people like their crappy food 🤷🏻♀️
I totally agree with you
Lol! We would all be tiny if we ate food this earthly and natural.
Amen!
Mm but matdonalds so good
man that whole segment with her grandma and then learning she died of covid was sad as hell
she didn't say that was her grandmother. it most likely wasn't
@Serena Rios Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Because I don't wanna be that guy x) Seeing how grandma was living rather secluded and Stephanie being from NY ya know...
@@favelado3408 literal dijo abuela en el video lol
@@boogbear17 eso no quiere decir que fuera su abuela, alguna gente les dice abuelos a todos los viejos
That's not her grandma, and yes she probably gave the grandma covid but who cares when she is giving knowledge$$ and then she moves to Europe 😂
Also for the record 96% of that food is Native to the Americas...not sure wtf she's talking about
Que orgullo ver la berraquera de la mujer Colombiana, más aún saliendo del elemento de lo que se considera "típico" en el exterior. LA AMÉ. Muchas bendiciones
I’m from Texas I’m Mexican American and I believe that no one should forget or be embarrassed by there culture I’m glad that you love your culture I also love mines. Let’s pray that this pandemic ends so me and my wife can go to Brooklyn and try your Colombian foods.
This girl is a hustler and she's grinding to the top of her game. Good on her and wish her a most successful future in the industry.
I have a lil crush on her
Shes also an animal abuser with no good license

When she said her grandma passed from Covid that hithard
Classic sob story
COVID traveled from newyork to poor grandma house ...
@@suneelkumar5932 So you think there is no Covid already in Colombia?
too hard
Covid ain't real man, my uncle died of a heart problem and they wrote it off as covid. It's just a hugs bad flu going around and the government is using fear to control. The government tells us 'not to worry and thats it's under control'
Such an uplifting video, this woman knows her food, every bit of her heart goes into her business. I've never had columbian food before but it looks so GOOD!
Love what you say, but please is Colombia not Columbia!!!
Colombia is such a rich country in every single level , and I am so happy to see Colombian gastronomy being exposed beside bandeja paisa and ajiaco . Our indigenous roots are so wise and beautiful
I could watch her all day. How inspiring she is! The food looks amazing and Stephanie is giving me serious hope for the human race. We need more women like this
This makes me so proud to be Colombian!!
The passion and emotion that i saw today, she has found her purpose.. and nothing can beat it
Dag I wanna go right away, but she's not here. She'll be back in Spring. I'll be ready. BTW RIP to her abuela.
Same. I was like I know what lunch is going to be tomorrow! Oh well, something to look forward to!
RIP, abuela 🙏🏿
"You name it, we have it, and if I dont I'll figure it out!"
🗣This Girl👆Is Drop Dead Gorgeous☺️
Que orgullo de mujer, representas todo lo bonito de la costa y Colombia, buena actitud, echada pa'lante, guerrera y pilosa. Un gran abrazo y muchas bendiciones.
No one hustles like New Yorkers 💯😩and the good looks amazing! I have to stop by if I visit NYC❤️
Colombians are some of the hardest working, friendly, and innovative people I know. The only risk in visiting Colombia is that you may never want to leave
I disagree. Very few are Lol my boyfriend is colombian but I’m not still we own a Colombian restaurant on Long Island in a large colombian community. The Colombians are so racist and will refuse service if you are NOT colombian. No joke. They say such nasty things to my non colombian workers and me. I can’t wait to leave honestly.
@@dsanti06 Colombians in Colombia are nice.
@@dsanti06 Also, I think you mean xenophobic, since Colombian is not a race but a nationality. Sad to hear that my fellow Colombians are leaving a bad impression. To be fair here we have kind of a bad image of gringos as well. Colombians born and raised in Colombia tend to be very nice.
@@dsanti06 I’m glad you think your anecdotal evidence speaks for all people. Great way of thinking.
@@dsanti06 Long Island is the problem in that sentence.
I can’t help but cry watching this...people who know and are connected with there culture are truly blessed. Being a young black women in America who know nothing of my culture or where I even came from makes me feel like a huge part of me is missing or gone 😞
I'm loving the coverage of these restaurants mid-pandemic. Glad to see some thriving, especially small businesses!
I love watching my Latinos winning out there.... I wish nothing but the best for you parecera... Greetings from DR ❤️🇩🇴
Stephanie sounds like a resilient and cheerful person- with the current situation with the pandemic, this is gold. It is also graceful of her to follow her own culture & tradition.
She's just beautiful. Buen trabajo. Tu mejoras el mundo (and also ppl like you)!
I’m so proud of her. She’s so strong and hustling with all that she could. I hope she can open her own restaurant in the city because she’s such a hard worker serving amazing food! ❤️💕
It just broke my heart when you said the abuelita passed from covid!! Oh my god
Beautiful..this bought tears to my eyes..R.I.P. to MaMa..💓🌻💐
Same! Shows the tenacity of the human spirit. She brought her entire community together through food. Such a gift and a blessing
Best of luck to this lady. I am from the US and have lived/worked in Colombia for about 8 years now. Love it and the people are among the friendliest I have met in over 20 years abroad; anywhere. I intend to get my residency here.
She seems so kind and kind hearted as well as someone fun to hang out with. Shes seriously an inspiration.
Shes out here spreading her culture and making her grandma proud we need more people like this❤
A beautiful woman with a beautiful soul making beautiful food
So much love in this video . This is how the world gotta be . Kind and happy
My great grandma helped my grandma a lot in her catering business, I wish I was taught how to cook but I was told that wasn’t for me and I enjoyed learning and I wish I knew how to cook like this young old soul.. 💛
So much respect for this woman.
This is a great representation of someone’s culture, this chef needs to open her own restaurant.. I’ve always thought Queens had the best Colombian food, but just watching her create these dishes those places don’t come close.... so glad this video popped up, amazing... 🇵🇷 ✌🏼❤️
This is why New York is New York, one of a kind in the world. Go, girl, you make the world go round.
Such an emotional connection to this. I'm an American born Colombian but my whole life has been filled with this kind of energy. Bless this woman for sharing the culture. I wish to do the same in my own way.
I wish i could like this a million times her essence is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️ she’s raw and real i would watch a travel cooking show starring her
Niceness!!! RIP to Grandma that passed, energy never dies, it's transformed from one form to another. I love our various indigenous cultures. Gwaan tru Empress!!!
literally beautiful, everything about her and her food and her passion giving me butterflies
Such an inspirational story for women . Taking ingenuity and forging your own path. The biggest message is follow your heart and it will open doors for you!
If I was her neighbor, I'd always be hungry from the odors from her back yard.
If I was her neighbor I'd never cook dinner id always order from her lol
True
If I was her neighbor; I would never cook. I will pay my entire bill for the month and knock her window for my food by 7am
@A mrw. tell it like it is
I know right- the food looks delicious 😂
@AP, Aroma you mean. Aroma.
Why am i tearing up when you said “ Guess what im a Colombian woman, and it’s not that way. “ que mi dios me la quiede por ese orgullo que tiene para nuestro pais .
I'm mexican and my grandma passed away due to covid as well, she was a great cooker, everyone loved her mole verde
i see a lot of similarity with Congolese food from Kisangani
*Coming from Africa the Motherland*
You are totally right , Colombian food has huge African influence, the afrocolombians are huge part of our culture .

She is beautiful! Looks like Frida Kahlo and is as badass.
Love her! Everything she does! Blessings to all the abuelas that guided us all to help separate the wisdom of good medicine. May the abuela who loss her life from Covid, be in peace.

This is the type of person who makes good use of her talents and energy despite whatever is throw at her.
Inspiring to watch.

Yes Stephanie, that IS the way it is. Your food is simply another side of the reality.
Exactly !!! This is what we are ; beautiful people, full of love to share with others, hard workers and more much more
In the Bronx many people do this. I support them 💯 the food is great. God bless this lady and I hope the best for her and her business.

I am from New York and miss Colombian food so much and Puerto Rican food. Next time I go to visit family in New York I’m gonna make sure I find you and get some of this lovely food you’re making. God bless. I don’t know you but I love you. Keep up the good work can’t wait to visit. I relayed to you so much
Damm she's rocking it.
When the chef talked about cocaine, the editor of this video decided to cut to the old woman grinding yuca. Misleading and sensationalistic.
I noticed that too!!!
They did edit this though. So they probably did it as a forshadowing moment.
Right?! I got confused for a second... I'm like the woman's grinding yucca! 😐 Besides that, they did a great job showing Colombia from her perspective. I am looking forward to visiting Colombia one day because of this video/interview.
I saw that too
But I don’t think it was malicious
Absolutely beautiful. I can taste the energy of her food from here. Not Columbian but I feel proud of her for exercising her humanity so beautifully.
Beautiful. This is what I miss about the city life. Experience of culture and food
I liked when that lady hugged her from the window. 😄
"me importa un culo" My favorite part of this video.
She is beautiful...talented...and most importantly dedicated/passionate in her cooking....she is already rocking....
I met them a few months ago in Colombia. We loved it. ☺️
Beautiful human beings working for what they deserve and so much for❤️
Inspiring indeed. Nothing can stop you if you are determined and believe in yourself. Not even your enemies or any other drawbacks, you simply walk on them and move on 💖
The best food in Colombia is from Barranquilla, and Cartagena!!
This is REAL food. REAL cooking. REAL CHEF.
The food, the story, the production... everything about this video was great.
