I dunno why, but this woman Stephanie Bonnin is restoring my faith in the world today. There's lots of news about horrible people doing horrible things today. But there's this video of a woman doing a lot, working hard, cooking beautiful food, and for the right reasons. Thank you.
For everyone thinking that this video is going to get her evicted or shut down, FALSE. Stephanie moved last month to Europe to attend another renowned culinary school to further hone her skills. What she's doing is typical in Colombia, many of our citizens make and sell food from home. I'm not saying that one way is right or wrong, I'm just pointing out that she's making Colombian food accessible in a culturally competent way. The people complaining are the same ones who would spend $5k on a trip to India but only eat at their hotel's buffet because the street food is "dirty". We all have different acceptable levels of risk and as a Colombian who has bought food from Stephanie before, I don't regret any of those tamales one bit!
Further proof that she’s doing for the love of food and to build her skills. That’s probably why she did this video. Also she’s barely even cooking in her kitchen. Looks like she’s doing it mostly at the community kitchen and just reheating and prepping at her house. No different than picking up home made from from your parents house.
I’m not even Colombian and this almost brought me to tears by how passionate she is, you can tell. I also love to cook so you just know when someone just wants to make someone happy with food.
I have to say this chef is a very accomplished woman. She takes care of herself and her dreams. I believe the lesson to learn here is you can do anything you set your mind into.
People can do anything they set their minds to is a true statement, however ppl set their minds to the wrong things and wonder why it's not fulfilling. I feel its more about aligning with your true self, being authentic and following your heart. I can set mind to doing my Taxes yet it doesn't make me get out the bed in the morning.
Any woman who does old school cooking and takes it this serious down to the spices , the process, and ingredients u know the food gonna be delicious!! That tamale is huge and looks super tasty! Keep doing ur thing girl I wish her nothing but success!
This reminds me of a book called Like Water For Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. Hispanic culture is so vibrant, colorful, passionate, even aromatic if i dare say so myself. This woman can perfectly fit in that book.

This was SO inspiring she’s a true boss! I’m Congolese and unfortunately a lot of slaves were taken from our coast to South America and the Caribbean islands. We still cook a LOT of different dishes in leaves so that really resonated with me. ❤️
Most of Africa "traditional cooking " is done in leaves. We cut off a banana stem and place the leaves over a hot fire ( too soften them ) and the leaves is now a vessel for cooking pastel in. The same thing in Mexicano culture with tamales .

I can’t help but cry watching this...people who know and are connected with there culture are truly blessed. Being a young black women in America who know nothing of my culture or where I even came from makes me feel like a huge part of me is missing or gone 😞
I love this woman's energy and passion.
man that whole segment with her grandma and then learning she died of covid was sad as hell
she didn't say that was her grandmother. it most likely wasn't
@Serena Rios Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Because I don't wanna be that guy x) Seeing how grandma was living rather secluded and Stephanie being from NY ya know...
@@favelado3408 literal dijo abuela en el video lol
@@boogbear17 eso no quiere decir que fuera su abuela, alguna gente les dice abuelos a todos los viejos
That's not her grandma, and yes she probably gave the grandma covid but who cares when she is giving knowledge$$ and then she moves to Europe 😂
Also for the record 96% of that food is Native to the Americas...not sure wtf she's talking about
Just hearing her speak and watching put so much love and culture into her food made me tear up so much cuz it reminds me of 🇨🇴. I may not be born there but I am so proud to have blood from there que amor tu eres y que dios te bebdiga siempre muñeca.
Wasn't aware you could get a home cooking license. Going to look into this for my own foods. Her food looks superb. !
I dead ass wanna cry at how beautiful and homesick this made me feel I miss Colombia so much
Deadass b... me too
When she said her grandma passed from Covid that hithard
Classic sob story
COVID traveled from newyork to poor grandma house ...
@@suneelkumar5932 So you think there is no Covid already in Colombia?
too hard
Covid ain't real man, my uncle died of a heart problem and they wrote it off as covid. It's just a hugs bad flu going around and the government is using fear to control. The government tells us 'not to worry and thats it's under control'
No one hustles like New Yorkers 💯😩and the good looks amazing! I have to stop by if I visit NYC❤️
My son started his cooking out of my kitchen. He now owns a 15 million dollar Company. This is wonderful for you. Keep chasing your dream. Your an Inspiration. ♥️
@Veer Mistry My son is the owner of Eat Clean Bro.
LOL
just another way exploitation.. all those food deliverys pay people a low income and get rich themself.. 15 mio dollar company haha

every single one made with so much pride and confidence...you can taste pride..this is what makes america so great...inspirational.!!!
I'm loving the coverage of these restaurants mid-pandemic. Glad to see some thriving, especially small businesses!
Stephanie sounds like a resilient and cheerful person- with the current situation with the pandemic, this is gold. It is also graceful of her to follow her own culture & tradition.
She's just beautiful. Buen trabajo. Tu mejoras el mundo (and also ppl like you)!
She is a badass - amazing. This shows how immigrants add to the fabric of American society.
By undercutting legitimate businesses and devaluing labor? This happens alot in the construction and landscaping industries as well. Companies without licences or insurance driving down the cost of services meanwhile legitimate businesses and employees who follow the rules are the ones who suffer.
@@john2605 she has a legitimate business

Niceness!!! RIP to Grandma that passed, energy never dies, it's transformed from one form to another. I love our various indigenous cultures. Gwaan tru Empress!!!
I’m so proud of her. She’s so strong and hustling with all that she could. I hope she can open her own restaurant in the city because she’s such a hard worker serving amazing food! ❤️💕
I hate watching these food series and not being able to taste anything.
Must be horrible to live without being able to taste
Amorr Winterstorm It is but I still can smell see and feel. 🤷🏽♂️
You should try like I do.
I watched these kind of vids while I'm eating my meals. So, I won't disappointed with empty stomach. 😊

Indigenous food from meso america is always underrated.
Huge facts
I'm Colombian/Dominican and would love to try her food because it's not the typical food you can get at a local Colombian restaurant. I'm honestly not that familiar with meso american cuisine.
@califood3618 and I can see why. Chinese food is pretty darn good just like many foods around the world but my point is that we as Americans praise everyone elses food from a far, overlooking the healthy delicious food thats being made in our own yard for hundreds of years.
En México no. Es la mejor
@@efigueroa2526 si, eso es algo que me encanta de Mexico y Guatemala, eso dos paises son orgullos de su antes pasados. Aun que todo latino America tenemos indigenas.
Wow hats off to her! It so hard being a creative person whether that be with food or some other art and being passionate about it then pursuing that creative thing full time. Yes you can be fulfilled abs make lots of money as a doctor or lawyer but not everyone wants that. It takes a lot of guts, hard work and talent to go after a career that’s not certain. She’s an inspiration! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
From law school to cook. Much respect for the passion and hustle. Hope she comes out with a cookbook one day.
instead of saving Aurelia’s batch of tucupi for herself she shared it with the people 😭♥️
Two birds with one stone. Share what’s the most most most authentic/limited quantity and you won’t spoil yourself for lesser quality product in the future plus sharing cultural food with new people you want them to experience the best

As long as her neighbors are ok, then she really is not doing anybody any harm. Love to see this side of Colombian Culture getting attention.
True but the government is the problem they will take her down smh I hope she finds a way out of it cause she can't sell it out her bedroom in America if that was the case then we all would do it
I want this lady to be successful but the fact is rules have to be in place to be sure that her kitchen is hygienic, food is stored at correct temperatures, etc. It's all fine until a person dies from food poisoning.

A beautiful woman with a beautiful soul making beautiful food
This made me cry 10 times. This is passion. "People get mad and say I'm stealing the recipes of the old women of colombia" You mean what white people do all the time and get rich from? etc. chipotle.
Exactly lol
Exactly, shes not stealing anything, she's promoting her culture in the best way possible. All those recipes will be carried on to a new generation as they should.

If there is an upside to the pandemic, it is stories like this. I am so glad that authorities are looking the other way over home based chefs and theirfood. I feel safer eating food prepared as if for family than dining at an indoor restaurant. Thank you, Stephanie, for spreading community while finding a way to keep a safe distance. You're my hero of the week.
So much respect for this woman.
This is a great representation of someone’s culture, this chef needs to open her own restaurant.. I’ve always thought Queens had the best Colombian food, but just watching her create these dishes those places don’t come close.... so glad this video popped up, amazing... 🇵🇷 ✌🏼❤️

Colombians are some of the hardest working, friendly, and innovative people I know. The only risk in visiting Colombia is that you may never want to leave
I disagree. Very few are Lol my boyfriend is colombian but I’m not still we own a Colombian restaurant on Long Island in a large colombian community. The Colombians are so racist and will refuse service if you are NOT colombian. No joke. They say such nasty things to my non colombian workers and me. I can’t wait to leave honestly.
