As someone who decided to live in a small village in the French alps after years of living in huge cities, I can't stress enough how much it has impacted my life for the better. I kinda discovered how life is beautiful, simple, surrounded by people who try their best to make everything beautiful around them.

I think one of my favorite things to observe in life are the beautiful synchronicities that happen along our path. The fact that you "happened" to meet that wonderful couple who were so willing to host you in their own home who then "happened" to have friends who were selling their dream home, just goes to show that EVERYTHING is happening with a bigger divine plan behind it all. And the fact that you've been on this quest for deeper meaning, just goes to show how aligned you are in your purpose; you're quite literally living by example in order to bring people closer to themselves and discovering their deeper meaning in life. I love the universe and how every moment, big or small, is divinely orchestrated to "invisibly" guide us all on our individual paths!
Also, I feel like that studio would be the perfect place to set up an editing station and a sitting area where you can host guests on your podcast if you choose to continue doing that in the future. So beautiful!

I took a break from creating over the last few months and there has been this innate fear to jump back into creativity. I recently had to move and change jobs when I personally didn't want to. That move has left me with a bit of doubt in myself. Watching this series Nathaniel, looking at the changes you've made, and specifically talking about how you look at life as little experiments not to overwhelm yourself... those were words I needed to hear. That was the verbal encouragement that is pushing me into the leap of faith I want to take this week. I'm jumping back on the horse. I'm going to take control. I'm going to start experimenting again. Thank you!

It's honestly a great feeling, even though it can be terrifying. Stepping into the unknown, there are so many possibilities and things that can happen, you feel free, yet also very overwhelmed. I just moved back to a country I used to live in (Georgia 🇬🇪) and I've been struggling a lot more than I thought I would be. I worked so hard to get to this point, and now that I'm here, I've kind of just felt... frozen. But it's all part of life! Tell yourself that you're feeling excited and anticipating the next step instead of feeling fear. It's really helped.
Beautiful new home by the way! Looking forward to watching this next stage of your life unfold! I'm one of the viewers who have been around since the beginning! Also excited to see Martijn Doolaard in the next episode! ❤

And as always, thanks for sharing your journey...

It is probably quite obvious, but I will still say it. You should consider turning the garden-house/ex-ceramic-studio into a workshop while renovating! It has lots of space, it is already empty, it is nice to seperate the workshop from the part where the actual renovation takes place and the "openess" of the studio gives it a great atmossphere while working.

Wow watching your house IT LOOKS A LOT LIKE MINE I have to say :D.
Just from the styling of the build i can tell we don't live far from each another. In an area where... yes, lots of artists go, me included. Not too far from Paris, beautiful, affordable.
Welcome to the place Nathaniel. My experience for what it's worth:
    - the initial feeling of isolation coming from the city lasted something like 6 months for me. I distinctly remind reaching nowhere point for my Parisian friends, then turning left, driving another 20 minutes and then only home. The way you've been searching will probably make it shorter for you
    - all the issues you show are small issues. I have the same electric panel and... it works, you know :p One can see this is a house that was already maintained. The BIG things: thermal isolation, roofing, heating. A big house like that can be very expensive to heat. I can see a lot of your windows aren't great for isolation. That's the costliest thing. Roofing can be costly but you may possibly be already good here from what I see. Heating is complicated. Most things are expensive. On the plus side, none of those needs to be day 1. The house looks pretty much habitable as it is.
What I've learned is that when a house is old, it has been well loved. Only love maintain things through time.

Congratulations! I wish when I bought my old house in the French countryside, that I'd planted a walnut tree or two in that first year. Thankfully the land came with a number of fruit trees already, but I love walnuts however they take around 10 years before they start to give. If you think you're in it for the long haul, and have any additional trees/plants in mind that are long to mature, don't make my mistake - establish them as soon as possible!

Welcome to the renovating in France club, Nathaniel. And I also wanted to commend you on taking back the whole workflow process for your videos. While, as you said, it’s slower, I feel that like any other piece of art, it’s a reflection of your soul, your presence lives within each frame. And no one but you knows the essence of that moment captured. The nuances of life are the ones lived through your own curated eyes, edited under your unique direction, and displayed in your final work of art. Bravo.

Thanks for this video! What you mentioned at the end - about the house not being a renovation project but a new way to experiment and tell a story - that really resonated with me. I am about to begin a different journey - becoming a yoga teacher. And I sort of see this as a story to be told later, a new journey that does not end when I get the certification. The story the training is going to unfold is far more fascinating than just going from A to B.
Good luck with your new story unfolding now!

This reminds me of when I bought a circa 1851 German school house (in Australia). I too wondered if it was going to be a forever house, but after 3 years and a lot of money in renovations I missed being closer to people. But it was an experience I will never forget and neither will my children. All the best with this new venture Nathaniel 🙂

I wish you all the best Nathaniel, on this new chapter of your journey. Opening your heart and home to neighbours and locals, as you've already done, will bring a wealth of information (and useful contacts) to help with the renovation. It's a beautiful space for you to create/contemplate.
It also holds tremendous potential as a creative retreat - as you've imagined I'm sure! Seasonal retreats would utilise the extra space, so you can still enjoy the peace you crave, while meeting new people. It's a wonderful next step and I look forward to the art, music etc this setting will inspire. :)

Go for it! I did the same thing in Vermont - old house needed fixing it took us three years to fix but I am still living in it and I love it so much with the studio and gardens! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your journey I was born and raised in Paris and lived in France for a while.

what a beautiful property! cannot wait to see what you do with it. If I could offer a recommendation...renovate one of the outbuildings first & convert it to a studio/1bed apt. you could then rent it out through airbnb or vrbo to like minded people and use the income to renovate the rest of the property. Good luck!

You need experiences to tell stories. You have vision, creativity and an appreciation of beauty, which your new surroundings have in great quantity. I think for you in this time you have found a consuming project which will give you literally hundreds for stories. Some may be triumphant, some horror, but what an adventure. Enjoy it all. Best of good wishes from Missouri, USA.

This house and property looks gorgeous. I cant believe you bought a house. I am stoked for the beautiful films youll create while maintaining the history and charm of the house. There is no better fit than another artist to create a new home there❤
