- Me and my husband will be driving around the base and at the same time seeing the beautiful full bloomed cherry blossom. Just having a cherry blossom inside the base is a plus and fell like you are in the Japan. I hope you will like the quick tour. Thank You!
We used to be stationed there over 30 yrs ago and it’s crazy How much it has changed. Thank you for this!!
Thank you for this! I grew up there 30 years ago from 1987-95 and while there's a lot of new stuff (A LOT more chain restaurants), there's so much that hasn't changed. The biggest surprise was the addition of the middle school.
We love Japan..hoping to be back
This is a nostalgia trip for me, remember walking around here as a kid when my father was stationed
When was your father stationed there and which ship was he on?
@@navychop6667 1996 - 2013, and he was on USS kitty hawk (CV-63) and after it was decommissioned, he was on the USS Independence (LCS-2)
@@morse8622 I remember when the Kitty Hawk (CV-63) replaced the Independence (CV-62). I was on the USS Vincennes (CG-49) between '97-'99.
@@navychop6667 Yeah I remember that also, I visited the ships often as a kid, too bad the Kitty Hawk (CV-63) got decommissioned, being a kid back then
I was a big fan of it.
@@navychop6667 I was in yoko from 90 to 94. Was on the Indy and also worked at navcommsta Watching this video is amazing to see all the changes!! Would of loved a chilis, Dunkin’, Popeyes etc back then!
Spent five years stationed in Yokosuka from 2015 to 2020, thank you for the memories!! 🌸🌸🌸
thank you for posting this!
日本人ですが、よろしくお願いします。
I am japanese. Thank you for the fun video.
I was stationed there on the USS Independence CV-62 from1992-1994. Great memories and thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, I miss being there - Nov 2001 - Aug 2004.
I’m sure it’s much better here now than before
The based changed a lot since 1975, but I did recognize a few things. The food court used to be the Navy Exchange.
Stationed here 2004-2007. One day a family return trip now the kids are grown; it'll for sure cost $$$ but it'll be worth it. Thanks for posting!
Yokosuka Naval Base. Lovely memories I have there.
Very nice, I missed them cherry blossoms! Nice house tour also..big difference from my 82-85 stay.
thank you. definitely a big difference even from us who was here 6 years ago
Brings back memories I was station there from 2000-2004
That s pretty nice .
Just can't get over the franchise fast food places on post. They have tv in English too! So many new buildings too. Haven't been inside the base since about 1970.
Thank you so much for this. I was stationed there back in 1994-98 when i was assigned to the USS Independence CV62.. and it brought back so many great memories. I was amazed at how some of the area changed.. sad in that the Thew gym was gone.. but.. seeing the ol base again was appreciated. :)
Is amazing was 28 years ago already lol.
My family lived on Gridley Lane in the early 1970s. I still remember the street lined with cherry trees. It was amazing in the spring. Of course, we climbed up in them (against parental orders) to sit among the blossoms. Amazing to think of it all just chugging along, 50 years later.
Woww!!! MEMORY LANE!!!😮😮😮
Thank you for this. I used to live here for about half of my life (8 to 16) when my father was stationed here from 2007 to 2015. I'm 23 now but it still feels like yesterday I was walking around the base! I instantly recognized every place in the video since I used to enjoy exploring the base by myself when I was kid, even off base sometimes. I wish I could go back, but sadly it's not possible unless I save up to visit sometime around Friendship Day since my ID is no longer military affiliated.
Mostly kids really love it here. They have the freedom and of course you can tell you are safe.
I miss this place. I lived there from 2010-2013. Did some middle school there and my first year of high school at Kinnick. Im 23 now and about to finish college. Time flies, I want to go back there some day!
i remember going here with my cousins dad to visit her when she was in the U.S. Navy, back in the’90s
i was like 14 or 15, we tour her vessel, Yokosuka, and ate lot’s of piyoko
Wow talk about nostalgic brings back memories my father was stationed in Yokosuka from 94-2000 then retired out there living in the economy now my parents came back home to San Diego me and my sister graduated from Kinnick High School funny enough I enlisted in the Air Force at Yokota AFB...good memories hopefully one day my kids and my parents can take one last travel to Yokosuka. Thanks
Wow! We had a good memory leaving In Yokosuka Naval Base full of Cherry Blossom , they real look matured trees now , they used to look small and skinny trees way back 1972-74 when my father got newly promoted as a Navy Chief officer in the base. You passed by in the Bay Area where we used to leave in Navy Housing Bldg close To Yokosuka HS, I think they used call Sullivan Jr HS. Right over looking in monkey island. I seen Benny Decker , Nile Kinnick HS. Tunnels where I used get a ticket riding my bicycles under tunnel. Do you still see yacht club where you go sailing by the Bay Area ? I love that place for sailing and fishing. Thanks a lot for sharing.
I was stationed at the Naval Hospital there and used to run up that hill. That was in the 90s.
My last time at Yokosuka Naval Base was Sept. '82....I spent my whole 4 years over there (Jan. '79 - Sept. '82)....was stationed on the USS Francis Hammond (FF-1067) and then I transferred to the USS White Plains (AFS-4)....so much has changed since then....would love to go back someday and see the base again....thanks for the trip down memory lane....Salamat po!!
Thank you! A lot has changed but I still managed to recognise about 80% of it since 93. The old Marine barracks is now a navy federal, that's weird. If you did a video from club A to the Carrier, taking a right off of King St., cutting through the back alley behind the cpo club / b39 and coming out on Howard St. by the MP HQ , you would have a few hundred views from me alone. Film it slow with a lot of the surroundings. Title it "Yokosuka from club A to the Carrier". Since 1983, I can't imagine how many tens of thousands of us made that 18 minute walk countless times and would love to do it again.
Sure I will do it as soon as I’m done uploading the tours I did previously
Nice place like to visit there soon
you are always welcome to come here😊
Thanks for showing the place. I was a (DK) after boot camp stationed at PSD formerly bldg G110 back in 1975. I can't recognized the place now, the only new things we have then were the housing towers for family.
Hi, new subscriber here. I lived in Yokosuka for 14 years. A small request, My son was born at the hospital on base and he would love to see it. If you could include it in your next drive around base we would greatly appreciate it.
I actually did but I just missed uploading it with the video. I will try to make another video with the hospital on it. Thank you for subscribing😊
@@lutztrvl6734 that would be great! Thank you 😊

Stationed on both the USS Parsons DDG 33 and USS Midway in 72-74 and 77-80. My oldest daughter born in the hospital. Thanks for the update ☺️.
Thank you for the video! I was stationed on the USS Midway (CV-41) from 89-91. The base is so different now. I lived in Rokuban Tower for a year. Do they still have the taxis on base?
Yes, taxis are still available on base
Omg it looks the same from 1997. I return this week
I was stationed on the USS Midway 82-85. I miss it!
Ohh Love the area if you are station down in mainland Japan,,everything you can go you can see lucky to travel by train ,,and this Covid19 cases making people hard to get most Restrictions On Base and Thanks for Sharing...i Used to work in the Commissary But i Visited Yukuska every now and Then
I have not been there since 1989..stationed their as a Marine @ Marine barracks which is now the NFCU..
Yokosuka Naval Base has changed a lot compared to when I was stationed there in 1974-76. There are too many buildings erected since then that I could hardly find my bearing. The go to place back then was the Navy Exchange.
I was station there for Operation Noble Eagle, as part of the base police. Had to deal with the Kittyhawk a lot.
I was stationed there on the 🇺🇸 US kittyhawk CV 63 from 2000 to 2003.
Do they still have BLDG A33 sight and sound. Where you could listen to stereo systems and mail it out without leaving the store.
That was my spot in the 80's.
Very nice video of on base in Yokosuka. I was stationed there on Midway from 86' to 91'. First meal I actually had on base when reporting for duty was at that McDonald's on base. Sad but when I was stationed there, no one really wanted to take vids of the base. Because it was a super boring place to be. A number of years later, I had traveled back to Japan as a civilian and went on base with a friend of mine who was still stationed there. The big different between when I was stationed there and now is, they have so many things to do on base now, compared to how it was back then in the late 80's. Back in the late 80's, all we had on base in way of food was McDonald's, The Seaside Club, Club Alliance, and the little hamburger shack near the Chief's Club. We also had the Benny Decker Movie theater near the Navy Exchange and the other movie theater near A-33 (high end electronics store). So hardly anyone stayed on base for very long when on liberty unless living in on-base housing because there wasn't much to do. Now, most will stay on base since there is so much more to do and it's much cheaper to do it on base compared to off base. Off base is where I shot most of my home vids. If you want to see a little of the base and off base from the late 80's, I've got some vids posted on youtube you can check out. I'll be putting more up soon. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I will definitely check your videos.
@@lutztrvl6734 I actually love being in Yokosuka. I tried to get a civilian job on base there in 2009 but that was next to impossible. Thanks for your vids of Japan.
Loved eating at seaside and also club alliance. I heard a chilis is where seaside was at.
@@7789rc It wouldn't surprise me. There are so many eateries on base now.
@@SoGoYoko to get Popeyes back then We had to drive to yokoto base for it.
Hey just to let you know, this is probably a security issue showing the base. Especially with the shipyard area.
Agree. Pointing out everything😂😂😂
I was station there for three years
I was CFAY security there '95 to '98. I see some traffic lights were installed. Back then I was the traffic light with orange gloves and a whistle. EVERY MORNING AND AFTERNOON. RAIN OR SHINE.
I rly wanna visit here, I’m Japanese so it’s difficult tho
I live in Yokosuka too
I was there way back in 80's. The base look much bigger with all the bldgs. Where are the ships?? We came over on ship & stayed for about 2 months. Do they still have the soul food restaurant not far from base out in town??
I’ve just showed a little part of the carrier...it’s along that area which is the water front
I was stationed there on the U.S.S. Vincesses between '97-'99.
Legendary sites for the biggest marines war at Pacific..
Is the arcade still across from the exchange around the corner from tacobell and the videostore?
I’m sorry I have not noticed it…Tacobell is still there but not the video store
@@lutztrvl6734 this was like tucked into the back of the building off to the left side facing the exchange. I don't even remember if there was a sign. Hardly anybody used it.
Edit: if memory and google maps serve me well it should be on the corner of green bay dr and leahy st. To the right facing the exchange.
My family lived in the Sanban tower. We were there in 2008-2011. We got evacuated when the earthquake and tsunami hit us.
that was scary but I hope you had a great time before the earthquake happens
I was there on the USS Midway
ill be there soon lol
you will definitely love it here😍
Stationed there 1977-80. USS PARSONS DDG-33.
USS Kitty-Hawk 1999-2004, shore Duty CFAY 2004-2008. I would love to see what the Honch looks like now, are all my chu-hai stands still serving sailors, I love handing out in Dobuita street. I will be back to watch more of your videos. Salamat Po
Thanks for watching! Sure I will do that for you soon
USS Vincennes (CG-49) Aug ‘97 thru NOV 2000.
Do you remember ENS/LTjg Hunt? DISBO & FSO? Well, that's me! I sure miss the Vinny days, had a blast.
My first duty station on the USS Midway.
USS Midway (CV-41), 12/89 - 12/91. Rode her all the way to San DIego.
I am not sure about inside of the base
Hi. Is it allowed to go there inside like: tourist or bawal? 😊
Their are times that base are open to the public, probably twice a year.
I've been there very nice place
pohon...ari na
Hi po Sana ma meet po kayo namin jan sa on September.
hi! See you then😊
Isn’t this against the rules? Your not really allowed to record on the base or show parts of the base. Restricted as always but that’s that. Can’t you get in trouble for this? Anyways I’m still living in japan on base. I make RUclips too. If I see you I’ll say hi 😁
I don’t think so because I’m just showing the base how pretty it is when cherry blossoms are in full bloom without getting inside an installation and people around without their permission. Doing RUclips is for my documentary purposes especially on the travels we have been too. I highly appreciate it if they will like and watch my videos and nothing more than that. Just❤️
@@lutztrvl6734 I think it is a security issue regarding other countries who don't have our best interests knowing the exact locations of certain departments on base.... it may be for your personal enjoyment/memories but this could affect the US at one point.........
@@em478w anything shown here can be seen on Google maps
