For example, when my step grandfather died shortly after my mother disowned me, I would hear what sounded like the screaming of someone being tortured or voices telling me I was going to die next, but my baseline hallucinations are people saying my name or trying to tell me things that I don't understand

Edit: Note, this is a bad idea - Nick’s voice is too soothing, I started to nod off and almost put out both my eyes on my knitting needles.
Also, I find it weirdly hilarious that the horrible cryptid could only speak in Russian at first. Considering the last video I saw before this one was of some Russian guys hand-feeding a wild polar bear, I could see them teaching a nightmare deer to speak, yeah.

Honestly, with any horror story that has some creature that's supposed to be similar to a real animal (in, this case a deer or moose), I always like to think that. Besides the obvious or pointed out differences, it still kinda acts like that animal.
Like, you leave out a bag of bird seeds or corn or something, and in the morning you wakeup and see this demonic looking deer-thing just, kinda chilling. Munching on some corn. Not really bothering you (assuming you're not the unfortunate souls that it's going after).
Dunno if that actually applies here but, I think it's funny to think about.
Anyways, great video man, keep up the awesome work. :D

I have a story idea that I've been working on for a while where this family adopts a hellhound, and the humor comes from that sort of thing- it's a demonic entity, but it's also a Big Puppy with Big Puppy Energy.

    • @adenowirus
      @adenowirus 3 года назад +30

Interestingly I've had a somewhat similar idea while watching the video. I thought that it would be fun if there was an unfiction series where amid some other trouble the characters notice that there's a strange creature stalking the area around their house (it wouldn't be their main concern, but rather an another problem to deal with, kinda like the Rake in EverymanHybrid), but over the course of days or weeks they slowly realise that it's not really hostile. Ideally it would end with a tweet announcing that one of the characters decided to leave some salmon out for it, accompanied by a blurry photo of said creature peacefully eating outside.

Also, as a person who’s interested in history of Soviet Union and who lives in a country that was once known as LSSR, it’s really cool to see that the first YT analogue series was connected to USSR!

9:51 I'd like to point out once again (I vaguely remember making the same point several yrs ago here on Night Mind) that прославленные лицемеры is not semantically identical to 'glorified hypocrites'. Russian phrase sounds unnatural and looks like a backwards translation from English. To put it simply, 'glorified hypocrites' is probably the intended meaning, but whoever put this text in the video most likely didn't speak Russian.
If you're making ARG or any creative project and intend to use Russian, please note that online-translation for Russian language if still far from perfection. It'd be more reliable to find a Russian person and ask them to translate a phrase or two; there are a lot of us Russians on the internet, a lot of us know English and interested in ARGs and such. Try r/russian, for example. Or maybe I can help. Good luck!

oh my god, i was thinking the exact same thing! i immediately knew it wasn't a russian person's work when they said "глядя на неприятности?" and translated it as "looking for trouble?". the actual meaning of the phrase would be something like "...while looking at trouble?" and the correct russian translation of the english phrase would sound more like "ищешь/ищете нериятности?". at least contact a person who actually speaks the language when making your arg, man!

I think my generation has accepted that the world will end because of human stupidity or whatever and grieves in its way, but I don't think I'll ever get the immediacy, the feeling people had that any moment could be _the_ moment. My reading on how the antler creature came to be is that it was indeed some sort of creature created by the Soviet Union, but as it was entirely loyal to them, it was probably a member of the party who really did want to do what they could to overthrow the American government.
However, once CH/SS was created, the mission was changed to first taking out CH/SS, and then returning to attacking US officials and whatnot.
But I believe some time in the late 80’s, the antlered creature was killed, but left behind a human widow, as the creature was formerly human itself. The widow was so distraught she begged the Soviets to let her take his place so she could have revenge, but they either declined, or collapsed before they could go through with it.
However, many years later, either the Russian Federation renewed the program or the program was recreated by some sort of shoddy group of scientists, and the widow was unleashed in 2016 so she could finally have her revenge. And the widow is Kadia.

I would like to see Night Mind do a deep dive into the Inscryption game as it starts as a deck-building video game, but then after you beat it for the first time the game adds in some unfiction via in-game videos and ARG mechanics leading you into doing other versions of the game as you play it. It should be interesting.

It's interesting how tonally different this is from most current analog horror. This reminds me far more of NOC+10 in the sense that it's immediately establishing a cohesive, singular narrative. Most analog horror is created to be more like self-contained shorts that fit together in a unified setting. There might be a meta-narrative, but it doesn't have a traditional Three Act structure.
Watching this series back, it made me realize what makes analog horror effective specifically for me: the fact that they are taped broadcasts of things at least somewhat reminiscent of things I could have watched when it was actually aired. CH/SS, as a result, isn't quite as effective for me as a horror project, but it still is a very clever and tightly written story that I appreciate all the same. Watching CH/SS feels more like I'm watching someone's dirty secrets instead. A different appeal to be sure, but the horror gets lost somewhere for me.

Y'know, Analog Horror is kind of like the Man Vs. Monster craze that started around the time Night Mind started. Every web series online featured a protagonist going up against a monster, typically with a found-footage style and light ARG elements. I'd argue CH/SS bridges the gap between the online horror of old and new. It's the perfect blend of Man Vs. Monster and Analog Horror, hitting a lot of the tropes of both and letting the two styles play off of each other.

You know so much about this field of content and what makes it effective it no doubt would be amazing. I think it's such an interesting discussion as to why analogue horror has exploded in the last few years. When you think of the market it appeals to, it's kids who know of VHS as a technology from the past, and then people like me who grew up with VHS and CRT's but had all but phased out before the end of childhood. I think it speaks to how so much horror can be distilled down to "old thing we don't understand" or "thing we knew from childhood but creepy". Really cool to see the evolution of horror demonstrating this in real time.
