Sin City resonated with me from day one when I first encountered it skimming through Dark Horse Presents. I remember thinking "this would be great in its own book" and as soon as it was released I started collecting religiously. I was a film noir and detective fiction fan, so Miller melded the best of both worlds bringing it to comics in such a bold fashion. Glad to see the omnibus has the thick matte paper like the comics. Something about that paper feels necessary to the pulp fiction reading experience.
I'm glad they're releasing via Deluxe formatting. I was fortunate to get the BIG Damn Omnibus when it released, but my cousin missed out. Might be a pricey endeavor
Thanks for the overview Omar, I got my copy in today and have the next three on preorder. Dark Horse really knows how to design a deluxe slipcased hardcover, this is impressive. At only around $50 each if preordered online I think they are well worth it. Also, DH really pay attention to the small details too. That interior sell sheet with the book did not have any glue or adhesive like I have seen on many other publishers books, and even the isbn sticker on the back of the slipcase removes easily without any residue.
I first came across Sin City in the pages of Dark Horse Presents because I was initially interested in John Byrne's Next Men. Fell in love with Sin City and picked up the singles as they came out. Then I picked up Bid Damn Sin City. This edition looks gorgeous but the $700 price tag for the whole set is too much for me when I already have the omni. But wow, what a set this will be!
I disagree that matte paper is better for black and white. Black and white 'pops' more on glossy paper. Matte paper is better for colour. The best example being DC's absolutes. I'm sticking with my Library Edition collection. What this version has over the Library Edition is the red edge of the books otherwise the Library Edition has better thicker glossy paper. I also think the brick design for the book cover and slipcase is 'busy'.
Respectfully disagree because it really depends on what type of colors we are talking about. When the product was made for example has a big impact on the type of paper they should use. Case in point. Look at the colors of Last God and how dull they are. Look at the black and white art found in the Fantagraphics collections of Dick Tracy for example of something that looks better because of the paper. Manga is another example when they get a deluxe treatment. There is a reason why Berserk even in the deluxe doesn’t use glossy paper. Really is case by case. Stick with the library editions honestly. This adds nothing to those. Since they are the same height.
@@NearMintCondition Thanks for taking the time to reply. I also like the thick paper of the Library Edition prevent seeing the art coming through the other side which you demonstrated with the Deluxe Edition. Love your channel.
Thanks for the review, Omar! I've been waiting for the series to get the deluxe collected treatment like this since the Big Damn Sin City is Too Damn Big. I'm not sure about getting the whole set yet but the hard goodbye always holds a special place in my heart so I will definitely grab this one.

Thx Uncanny Omar, love all your reviews. I already have Big Damn Sin City but unlike you, I can't afford to double dip. :). Even if I didn't have it, I would buy it for $99 on Amazon where it is available rather than spending $700 for the cash-grab. The only thing I see with these new editions that is interesting is the red gelding on the sides of the pages. Otherwise, no thank you. :)

Hey Omar! Any idea what the release schedule is for the other volumes? Great video as always. I've ordered one of these as it seems to me the best way to collect them. The Damn Big omni size is just too big and TPB's aren't as 'special'.
I really like this format over the Big Damn. This may be an unpopular opinion, but omnis can get too thick. And you're right about the matte, it fits the art so much better. Off topic, but you mentioned Marc Silvestri, have you seen the Cyber Force Complete Vol 1 Omni on Kickstarter?
I DO NOT HAVE 700 DOLLARS TO SPEND ON THIS COLLECTION. I DO NOT HAVE 700 DOLLARS TO SPEND ON THIS COLLECTION. I DO NOT HAVE 700 DOLLARS TO SPEND ON THIS COLLECTION. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! My arm is itchy now.
I own the single issues for a lot of Sin City, and the trades for Hard Goodbye, Yellow Bastard, and Dame to Kill For, since I've been a Sin City fan since around 1996. I've at times been interested in the Big Damn Sin City volume (I always thought it was like a Marvel or DC omnibus; didn't realize how big it was), but that glossy omnibus paper just doesn't feel right for Sin City. I actually really like the texture of the pages for the single issues of Sin City and the original trades that I own. I can't see myself upgrading for that reason alone, honestly. And the dialogue was outdated by 1990s standards too. It was intentionally done that way, I think probably done to give it a more film noir feel or something.
Super thick omnis can be a pain to read for sure. And Big Damn Sin City dwarfs any of my other omnis in sheer bulk. But in my opinion it's worth picking up, just because it's sooo big thats it's kinda fun. I like to pull it occasionally, just to show my friends how big it is.😉
Thanks for the review Omar. Stellar job and beautiful presentation. I’ll be passing on these sadly. Can’t justify the price point, especially for b&w art. I’ll just grab the paperbacks that are now solicited.
All I needed to know was that this new edition uses matte paper and Big Damn Sin City uses glossy. I’ll be getting this new edition. Matte all the way!
Man, 7 volumes are just too much. 50$ a volume is a more reasonable price, I think. I was mainly interested in this new edition because of the size, big damn is way too big (lmao) for me but I guess I'll pull the trigger on it, since it's worth for the price.
Dark Horse know how to design a great hardcover! Would have been great if the slipcase spine/s also spelled out Sin City, would look fantastic in the bookshelf. $700 is a huge commitment, would have to find some nice discounts to buy them all. Thanks Omar!
High price point, but it'll get people who really love this story (and thoughtfully deluxe design) to show their love with their money. I'm going to start trying to track down a set of the trades. They were always available at libraries because of movie popularity so I never bought any format.
I love Sin City, I have the smaller paperbacks. I would love to get the Big Damn version but this is a bit much. I wish this was more like the deluxe at $50 bucks. Are you going to get all of em?
