I remember when Carrie sang this song on American Idol and this was one of her best performances of the night. That's why people voted for her because they didn't care or listen to the judges. This is my second favorite performance from Carrie. The judges didn't like it because they liked Janis Joplin's better.
Why don’t more people know that she is singing the FAITH HILL version of this, not the Janis Joplin version! Yes Janis was the original but this arrangement is from Faith Hill’s album!
i dont get why you are all hating on carrie for singing this song, she was amazing!!! and i liked her singing this song, get over it, find a person singing it that you like but leave the people that you dont like, alone, it doesnt take long to type in a person that you like, that is all xx
Never got over the fact that NONE OF THEM knew she did Faith Hill’s version and Ryan had to correct them on the results show. 😂 Carrie killed it, and I loved Faiths version of this song.
It's too hard to imagine "Piece Of My Heart" without Janis Joplin's powerhouse delivery. Carrie isn't Janis (but then, who is?). Carrie excels on the songs that were made for her. She's a Country Star. Janis will always be a Blues and Rock Legend.
@@brianmelnick1117 Yeah, it was wrong of Faith Hill to cover it, and wrong of Carrie Underwood to cover THAT. Janis's performance is one of the all time great blues-rock vocals. Faith Hill took a song of raw, painful emotion and gave it all the passion of a Vasoline smiling beauty contestant at a county fair.
The biggest problem here is you can't listen to this song without hearing Janis Joplin's version. This was a Country version and it just didn't match up. She redeemed herself with her version of Heart's Alone where she proved she could do Rock.
tbcass bitch speak to yourself. I only heard faith hill when I first heard this performance. I have NEVER heard Janet joplens version all the way through and NEVER will. Janet joplen.SUCKS. Every word ever uttered out of Janet's mouth behind the microphone was pure shit. That bitch didn't have a lick of talent. I grew up being used to the faith hill version. Faith's first CD came out the same year i was born in 1993. Randy was fucking wrong. Her performance was perfect.
I dont understand why you people hate this. Carrie is an amazing singer no matter what she sings. I think she sang this song amazingly and you people who hate it dont know what singing is
I think this song gave us a first glimpse at her spunky side. She has such a sweet spirit but also there is something in her voice in this song that I love with her. It’s like she is saying don’t mess with this badass! Lol
another Amaerican Idol finalist Season 7 AMANDA OVERMYER is singing this same song PIECE OF MY HEART at all her concerts while on tour promoting her new Album SOLIDIFY (itunes).
I don't know, it sounded fine to me. I'm not a Joplin fan so I like this version better. Would be nice to hear her elaborate and get more scratchy and bluesy with though...
@SarraAzzam Carrie did her version based on the country version of this song, whereas Haley's performance was based off the original. Two very different songs. Haley's was great though.
Well Simon, Carrie did make you Millions and Millions you got lucky she came there to tryout..He will make money off her for along time still. And I do know Simon is a billionaire all these shows he owns or runs, Idol, America's got talent he's got a ton of shows ect, now X-Factor will be starting soon I watch all the UK ones here on youtube and love the show
haha watching these old ones crack me up, she was such a bad dancer. and looks so different yet still so unbelievably beautiful. ps:all denim outfit?? haha
All the criticism of stance and arrangement--keep in mind she is obeying the arrangers and such. Even song choices are not 100% the singers on these shows.
i love carrie and this really works but i'm a huge janis joplin and i would've loved her to sing with a little more rock.. face it carrie can sing pretty much any type of music
I'm Sorry to say I kinda agree with them for once she sang Piece Of my Heart that's a tough song to sing the Way Janis did it she sang it with Attitude with Rock feeling Carrie is a Country Girl so If she sing that kinda songs like that she has to become with it
Brian Hagaman also fucking janice NEVER sang a word in her life when she was alive and still don't today. Faith hill and Carrie Underwood have the only two versions worth listening to
@BloodyScot99 Haley could sing, which scared my wife, because she was a Lauren fan, but I could never stop thinking Haley was a petty fake person. I couldn't say why, just my instincts. If I'm wrong, it would be a rare mistake when judging character, but possible. A lot of people said Lauren was the fake one. I didn't get that feeling.
Are they all stoned? Faith hill did a version of this song and its obvious that was what she was doing. I didn't watch, just listened but I thought she did it like FH's version + put her own twist on it. I love Janis' version and haven't heard any of the others mentioned here. But She obviously did it like FH They're in the music business, haven't they ever heard Faith Hill singing this? And Simon's comment? You lost star quality? A cover band version? It was a Country version Simon! LOL
Liked Carrie Underwood's take on piece of my heart since Carrie tried copying Erma Franklin unlike the voice season 6's Bria Kelly which was doing this song like Janis Joplin
why does she stand in that awkward stance with her knees bent outward? its almost like she thought she wasnt allowed to move her feet throughout this performance
Haley was far better on this song and all around a better technical singer but Carrie has the prefect voice and twang for the country and pop country she does. When Carrie was on Idol she great looking but not sexy like she is now, while Haley may not be as pretty but far sexier and many women voters look for things to hater for because of it, while they may not even realize it.
She did. That's what the judges are complaining about. They had never heard of Faith Hill or her version and thought Carrie was just doing a bad Janis Joplin cover.
I thought it was interesting, having heard the comments from the judges, to go back and hear that little piece of an interview at the beginning, "I'm just a country girl from Oklahoma and I'm fine with that." [not her precise choice of words] I would go further and say that winking and the cleavage and all that are *not* part of her Oklahoma upbringing either, and deep down she is not "fine with *that*."
Carrie Underwood and faith hill have the only versions worth listening to for this song. Every word that has ever been uttered out of Janet joplens mouth behind a.microphone is.pure shit. I grew up being used to the faith hill version. Faith's first CD came out the same year I was born in 1993 and I have all of her CDs and tons of CDs from Tim including their recently released duet CD that has speak.to a girl on it. The CD is called the rest of our life
I think this song is supposed to evoke emotion....the only emotion I feel listening to this is wishing for it to end. And I feel the same way about faith hill's rendition.
This might be one of the reasons I was slightly biased against her vs. Bo Bice. I have always despised this upbeat version of Piece Of My Heart. It's not Carrie's fault, coming from her generations, but Faith Hill, as good as she is, ruined Janis' classic broken-heart blues song. It's not supposed to be happy damn it. But.... Carrie has made the most of her success on the show. I just hate this song.
Carrie is very talented, but I don't like this rendition of the song. It was too slow for my tastes, where as Piece of my Heart is supposed to be past and upbeat sounding. But still, I give her props.
Absolutely no feeling at all. This is not a country ditty nor is it a pop tune for American idol. Janis would not be pleased nor are her fans. It's not hard to play the song but you must feel the power of the delivery.
OMG she wrecked this fabulos Joplin song. Her physical performance did nothing for this song drop the big smiles, this is supose to be a soulful song. Don't mess with Janice, if you can't do her proud, don't do her !!!
I was sceptical when I read that Underwood had been singing Janis Joplin during an American reality show and I was right, this was just absolutely horrible. Respectless to such a talent as Janis Joplin and she didn't even do it well, this was dreadful from start to end.

Bless her heart. But she stayed strong and came back bigger than ever.
Carrie def deserved to win season 4 of America , her music is so beautiful.
She can sing anything amazing

💘💖 SHE'S MINT 💖💘 💖 OH YEAH 💖
she's singing it the way faith hill did when she covered it. obviously not the Janis Joplin.
She did such a wonderful job

countrygirl country musiclover LMAO you have real issues.
I mean, I never heard the Janis Joplin version so... I hear Carrie just fine. And she was perfect. :D
Clearly the judges didn't do their homework because Faith Hill did a superb country version of this song that hit #1, so.......
I dont understand why you people hate this. Carrie is an amazing singer no matter what she sings. I think she sang this song amazingly and you people who hate it dont know what singing is

haha watching these old ones crack me up, she was such a bad dancer. and looks so different yet still so unbelievably beautiful. ps:all denim outfit?? haha
she is thinking so hard
I love kree too.
The song was wriitten and originally recorded by Erma Franklin, Aretha Franklin's sister
All the criticism of stance and arrangement--keep in mind she is obeying the arrangers and such. Even song choices are not 100% the singers on these shows.
Original artist: Erma Franklin
The late Aretha's sister
ryan is so funny "aww your holding me thats a first this season" lmao

Brian Hagaman also fucking janice NEVER sang a word in her life when she was alive and still don't today. Faith hill and Carrie Underwood have the only two versions worth listening to
@MsDominic20 Well Faith Hill did a country version so there is one.
faith hills version is my fav
@firstsharlord
It's not a Joplin song. It's an Erma (Aretha's sister) Franklin song. Joplin ripped off Erma and crucified it.
That was different. I prefer the Rock version. I like her tone. My compliment Sandwich lol.
Wow this is WAY better than that other girl who sings this I just heard it live she was bad!
@BloodyScot99
Haley could sing, which scared my wife, because she was a Lauren fan, but I could never stop thinking Haley was a petty fake person. I couldn't say why, just my instincts. I would like to know what do you think about Magdi's interpretation?
not bad but i still like the original version as far as the style goes being tht it's rock. but great job carrie :]
I personally think she took all of the grit and emotion out of the song

@MsDominic20 the only thing that turns this into a country song is that it is painful to watch her sing it
Listen to this, don't watch it. It's hard to watch her act cheesy when she turned out so great in the end!
I love Kree's version. :)
I hope you’ve learned how to spell since this comment 8 years ago
Watch this back to back with Haley Reinhart's performance of the same song
she just blown it
That smile at 0:30 kinda sunk the song for me. It's a serious, almost depressing song, and she didn't give it that.
She should've sang Faith Hill's arrangement of piece of my heart not Janice Joplin's
She did. That's what the judges are complaining about. They had never heard of Faith Hill or her version and thought Carrie was just doing a bad Janis Joplin cover.
She did lol have you not heard the song?!
what the fuck i think janis' version is the best. forever.
she's too sweet for this song, that's the problem. She needs more grit to pull this off, which i have seen her do with her guns n' roses covers.
