Thank you for the video. Management at Ph.D. level is not an escape from hard work since you are pushing the boundary of knowledge. Even if you succeed obtaining Doctor of Management, the challenge you ran away from awaits you in the future. For example, you found it difficult as a computer science student, and then you did a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems (MIS). Those with PhD in Computer Science would still apply for a teaching position in MIS. Similarly, those with a PhD in Industry Engineering can still apply for a faculty position as Project Management lecturer (with a postdoc in school of management). This also applies to research grant applications, MIS and Computer Science always compete. By the way, Management lecturing positions are not generally advertised because it passively serves a career bridge for staff who may not perform very well in the faculty of engineering as an internal recruitment process. This is the same reason the university library does not advertise the vacancies. The spouse and children of professors fill up these positions; this is by the way… Lastly, the pay gap...
My point was the management is more general than say a PhD in fluid mechanics where you end up trying to solve partial differential equations or in machine learning where you may spend 5 years on the vanishing gradient problem. Students who have broader research interests may benefit from degrees in quantitative areas of business and management while contributing to these areas. They can also get industry jobs. There are a plethora of jobs in operations research and information systems for example.
