Really interesting watch, thanks Ewan. Appreciate that you listed the UK rankings - gives me a frame of reference for understanding what it takes to compete at that level
@@EverythingPadel If you have the means, could you try to participate in a dutch tournament once to see how it stacks up with the UK? Could be a nice venture.
Great level and great analysis Ewan! Keep up the good content and keep pushing your padel level, as you said, another day both of you win that points and advance to the next round
Hindsight is always 20/20 bro! Don't beat yourself up too much, you and Stan both played brilliantly! Would love to see you guys playing another tournament together 💪
WOW What an absolutely intense second game! Really well played from both of you. Feel like that match point ball was in but we live to fight another day.
Great video as always! Looking at the clips in the video, I can’t help but notice that you guys seem to switch between opponents quite often when deciding who to aim for. Especially when Stan hits a backhand volley, it seems like he almost always plays it crosscourt, even when the opponent parallel to him is out of position due to the previous volley. Loving these videos so much and looking forward to seeing more of Stan-he seems so solid!
Really coming into your own on the drive side pal. I think in a tourney as important as that new balls should be used every match. Stan has a lovely kick and that would have opened the scores I think. Big improvement on the right as with the opportunities you opened up for him he would have e been able to kill a lot of those balls on another day. Think you can make a big difference on the right lad. Well done boyo ✌️✌️
Do you have a video on which side you should take with your partner? i.e. what attributes are better on either side and which shot types you are more likely to be using/taking?
def yeah u should practice to always be positive bec when i was screwing up i got rly agitated bec of the balls i was selling so then i just switched to being insanely positive and it works for me and i hope works for u too
@@EverythingPadel I agree, you have the profile to become a really strong right side player. I'm a right side player as well. Things you could implement in the near future: 1/ apply even more side spin to your viboras and use more variation with it. Try to decrease the speed/power with a few % now and then, and make sure they stay really low, with a lot of effect. Very effective shot in the middle. Play vibora's parallel, middle and cross, to their BH. 2/ Play at least 2 or 3 times to the same player to put them under pressure. I saw you sometimes switching up, which puts you potentially in disadvantage. 3/ you can and should finish points as a right side player, but only on the really easy points (smash or pop out opportunity, aggressive volley opportunity) -> if not, keep preparing for your partner to kill the point. 4/ use the lob & chiquita a lot, especially to the middle (BH of right sided opponent). Over time you will notice you will become very good at this and you can gradually get more aggressive and attack with more confidence.
Hey Ewan. First of all I wanna say that I love these tournament videos with the voice overs. Really does teach you a lot as it provides in game insight. Also is it possible to mention each player’s racket beforehand? As a new player to Padel, been playing it for 3 months, people’s choices of rackets interest me.
So nice to see the UK way of playing padel. I’m at a similar level in Sweden but our rally’s are way shorter with too many smashes and way too much risk involved in the game!
Hey Ewan, very well played! :-) if it was not clear if the ball was in or out, that point should have been repeated. Because as the right player stopped playing, this will looses your focuses on your shot.
Could you make a video on how to play the right side now that you might try being a more right sided player? as most videos on YT and in general I think yours too are more swayed to players on the Left side. It would greatly help thanks
Tough to see but like you said, last ball looks good from bc of the bounce. Sick vid and love your consistency...that's kinda my goal. How often do you play per week? Cheers and keep up the good content.
Great video! A thought, do you think you could stand closer to the side glass when receiving serves? Just feel like you would be better placed to return them from the glass? Of course I didn't see how many balls you did return from this position.
Ewan, have you ever tried or used the Adidas Metalbone Carbon ctrl 3.3? What’s your (expert) review? Recommendable for an intermediate player or not? Thanks a lot!
Great games, the second game could go either way, you played great together! Come to Spain to play a tournament, there are tons every weekend , See you in Mallorca!
great video. In the last video the level was close so the macth was decided on details. I think your level of agression is ok but Stan was to improve the vibora... His defende is very good but it had alot of balls to put spice on it and he just played to safe. Its normal, its something you will improve with time and more games in those type of situations. Its not easy to risck in knock out Tournament.
Impressive consistency, I guess its the way to win in such slow conditions. I have never seen so few smashes at such a high padel level, and the few that were attempted seemed so weak (but I know its the weather/ball conditions, not the player' skill or lack of). Rankings are extremely important for someone not from the UK (but with ties to the UK) as myslef, because internationally UK players haven't made a name for themselves as far as i know. Rankings thus enable people like me to situate the engagement. BTW does anyone know if padel tournaments around southampton (where i have family members) are numerous ?
Hi Ewan quesiton: Often times I'm told to defend on the right side to stand in the corner and my racket should touch the glass but you defend so often pretty far away from the side glass and u do it soo wel. How come you dont stand closer to the side glass?
A lot of the time I’m closer to the middle because Josh and Stan are hitting across, I need to protect the middle a bit. Across to Tommy I go nearer the glass to protect the corner

Obviously you're playing at a decent level already. Congrats on the performance in this tournament After rewatching some of the points I noticed you give your opponents to much easy balls when you're at the net. Your volleys aren't deep enough. They bounce in front or at the white line. Because of this your opponent gets too many options to push you guys back again. Hence why you get so much long rallies. Maybe something to consider for future matches 😊
im myself a good player in austria - but the difference in playstyle is so crazy to look at. in these matches 90% of balls are played with exact same speed back and forth... there is no smash, no vibora, no stops - just the same speed all over again. watching this I suggest try sometimes slow volley, fast volley (attacking) - which you dont see in this video AT ALL, surprise smashes etc. - i dont want to bash you, but to think about what you can add to your arsenal... when i play with my friends every 4-5th point is won with smashing outside or playing such a fast vibora that is not returnable
Think you need to really take a look at your weaknesses and actively practice on them. By the vids ive watched its probs your overheads. If they can be improved by another 20% your going to win alot more.
Well played. In my opinion you lacked agressivness with both overhead and volleys. Especially, very goodband consistente player, buy It you play on ln the left you have to be more capable in pushing and in general varying the speed of the shots.
