Presumably because she grew up in the US and wasn't as familiar with the Korean music industry or kpop she said she wanted to focus on music more in keeping with her US tastes (reflected in the fact this is in English and quite different to Kpop) and her influences, so she was put under the care of YG creative director SINXITY. When AXIS was created, Katie was asked if she wanted to remain at YG or go with SINXITY to AXIS - she chose to stay with the team that had been working with her. This single and all her other preparation is the result of her work while at YG not just something created after she left. YG is financing, promoting and distributing this debut as part of his obligation to the winners prize.

Kanye has the show at Madison Square Garden. And specifically the set where lots of Korean rappers were standing on a big cube, mirrors Asian hip hop culture with the west. I’ve been learning more about fashion and a lot of K-POP music videos take a big chunk of inspiration directly from fashion concepts. I.e. the cereal scenes in Blackpink’s Kill This Love, Samuel’s Eye Candy, and Jessi’s debut song (cannot remember the name apologies) are directly inspired by one of Karl Lagerfeld’s 2015 Chanel show, where it was a supermarket and every item on the shelves was real and labeled with the Chanel logo completely custom on everything. Just thought as a producer you would totally love this fact and wanted to share with your viewers as well coming back to marathon your incredible content 😁)
The video, song, and lyrics surprised me completely, but in a great way. It's very fresh and different. It may be a little risky to debut with this song, but I think it's unique and a choice that definitely drew me in (and probably a lot of fans who enjoy western music).
