One huge difference from a hotspot is that it can stream directly from HDMI. In this case, the data is going directly from the device instead of a wifi tether. This is important because conventional 5G plans will cap your data if you tether. If you're streaming over HDMI, that makes all the difference. You are no longer technically tethered. Data is going directly from the device. This means, if you get a tablet plan or a standard cell phone plan, you can benefit from not just unlimited data, but prioritized data speeds that you normally would not if you are tethered. What most people don't know about tethering is it really sucks. ISPs have done everything they can to cripple tethering and prioritize any other customer. Therefore, what most people want for streaming video is /NOT/ tethering. Really, anything but tethering will do. This can give it to people. If you get this device, it may cost a lot, but it may also save you a lot in data fees by not tethering.

I really wish this could do NVI. If it could convert my Sony alpha or Sony ZV into a NVI camera just by plugging in USB or HDMI, that would be utterly insane.

You can do similar with an ipad and elgato camlink 4k. What this combination does not offer that PDT-FP1 offers is the ability to operate in all environments, multi sim switching, multiple USB-C ports for transfer and charging. Those are enough to make this a better option; however, iPad + elgato camlink will allow 2 things PDT-FP1 does not. NVI + VPN. If you are on location, you can stream video directly to your NVI receiver using a VPN on an ipad. I am not for certain, but I doubt this is possible on PDT-FP1. If this is just an xperia phone, then it's running android. If you have full access to android OS including google play store, then that could really change everything. This would be a 1m times better than ipad + camlink.

If you can run Mevo Go on this device...my head would explode. I kinda want to buy this just to find out if that is a thing. If so, watch the market flip on its head.

Absolutely the antenna system in and two sims, made it a for broadcasters and professionals. I have a $1,000 Netgear hot spot which is 5G, is not much better than the M1 Netgear.
