This was one of the most powerful moments I've ever experienced in a game. I don't know if I've ever felt connected to a game character like I did Arthur, and even though the ending wasn't spoiled for me during my first play through, I knew I was basically riding to my death in this scene, shit sucked in the best possible way.

Yea I've gotten attached to characters but nothing to the magnitude of what I feel for some of the characters on this game. and what really got me attached was having so much playing time with Arthur because I always explored alot in between missions and the conversations I had with the other characters and just Arthur trying to be the best guy he can but always being ended up in a rough situation.. he off all the gang I thought should live. Because if he could have survived after the gang he could have spent rest of his life trying to make up for it. Even tho you really can't make up for it but he could have tried.

The smile on his face says it all he finds peace within himself and is rewarded with his wish. To die on a hill top as the sun rises.

“Thank you, feller. You know there ain’t enough kindness in this world, that’s for sure.” I don’t know why but that short line and mission felt extremely meaningful, and then hearing it again as you saddle up for your final ride hit all the more. I remembered the man who said that as if I had actually met and aided him. That was the first mission I played as honorable. One reason why he is such a great character from the beginning to the end
When you start off, he’s like a kid, do what ya want sorta thing
    But that has consequences
And those near to him and to the player as you have to trust them too, by their good actions, slowly go bad
    (Dutch ya prideful prick)
Arthur realizes this change, and just as him, always been loyal to him just as Arthur always was (for 20 years)
Seeing this change as chapters go on, you still try to being your Dutch back, and keep on going
But when you see Dutch lie (Something he said he was never a man to do) and betray you but then denying it (Like when you were about to be captured by the Army but then Native Indian’s son comes in and saves you, but still gets shot himself) Dutch left you behind, and it cost a life of someone who didn’t really deserve this
At the end, Arthur still tries, and to make sure someone gets out and makes a life
Arthur saves John when they try to escape
Giving him everything, for Arthur he shouldn’t have anything left
When Arthur starts dying, after giving Dutch everything he had, to the last breathe
All that trying, just to die, and everything you have seen Arthur done, and now he dies trying to do the right thing, trying to save people, trying to warn someone even when they weren’t going to change
(Also for those confused about Dutch and him doubting Arthur when they still trying to find a place once they come back from the island, Dutch’s Pride got in the way of what he says is right)

At my first playthrough I hoped for a good ending thinking that he somehow survives TB, still this scene made me cry
My second playthrough, I already knew that this is going to be my last ride with Arthur. 2 days I tried to start this last mission. 2 days later, this last ride blew my eyes instantly after start of the song....

As I see this, this is a true man or honor, a soldier to Dutch, but a soldier who learned to question his orders and, ultimately, himself, and become wiser for it, wise enough to question the growing insanity of his master, the one he called his father, and his lackeys, that was once his brothers and sisters.
Arthur Morgan, from this day, until the day I die, know you have earned this proud Dane's salute and respect.

I think its interesting that Arthur could have just gone with Sadie and Abigail at this point. Could have left it all behind and died peacefully. Left the gang to be finished off by the Pinkertons. But that isn't who he is. Loyalty is everything to him. And even if Dutch doesn't understand that, Arthur still has to try to get him to see reason. Still has to try to make Micah account for his betrayal. He just can't let everything he had be destroyed like that.

Arthur is a grown man and makes grown up decisions he didn't have to do what he did so imo it's not really strauss's fault
The beauty in why it's Arthur's fault makes his redemption that much more meaningful honestly
His own kid died for almost the exact same reason as he went to beat Mr. Downes for and he paid the price for his actions
At least That's how I see it

    • @bosefareheart9699
      @bosefareheart9699 4 года назад

I agree. At the end, Arthur new the choices he made set him down his own path. Upon the moment of his final ride, he was past denial and casting off blame onto others. He even said "You don't get to go through life doing bad things and then get to expect good things to to happen for you". At this point he was at the most clear and accepting point in his life on this ride. Remember, he even thought John was dead at this point, until he made a dramatic entrance later at camp. He thought after he sent Abigail and Sadie to meet up with Tilly and Jack at Copperhead Landing, his journey of saving the innocent was through. He was riding towards Micah. Dutch. Destiny. Death. Fully prepared to give the ultimate exchange without requesting anything in return. Because it was how to set things right. It was just the way it is.

In my knowledge, If any of us know that they have very few time left then I'm sure most of us (including me) would most likely become more selfish and living most of what they have left for themselves. But very few of us despite not knowing what is next give a damn about others and try to make sacrifice and set things right for the time they have left. My friend Arthur... was one of them.
