The painter polls along with the pivoting block sanders is truly a great hack Slim, I'm a HUUUGE fan of that type of enjunuity... Thank you for sharing.
I am always surprised at the amount of hardware store stuff you can adapt into something! I love it!
So true! I love hitting the hardware/building stores to find something that I can use in my RV!
Slim, you needn’t be concerned about content. This video, along with your travels, hikes and history lessons ..... this is exactly what I enjoy. Thanks for posting!
Also life lessons ♥️
100%
One of my favorite John Steinbeck books is also “Travels with Charley” which I read 40 years ago and always thought I would like to also do. So in 2017 I traveled with Bella(little white boxer) from MA across the northern US to Idaho to Grand Tetons down to Northern New Mexico through Utah and Colorado and then a return to FL.
Found a copy at thrift store by Charles Kuralt, A Life on the Road. Growing up I always enjoyed watching his back road travels on CBS "On the Road" across America in a motorhome 40 yrs ago.
13:27 "I wouldn't say it's the ideal spot..." XD i just looked out my window onto the building across the street and then compared it to the picture i see in my screen: snow covered mountains, some trees with snow and a river with ice in a beautiful winter landscape. My friend, it might not be ideal, but its dang close in my eyes. XDXD You got "spoiled" with to many nice places. XD
Yeah my current view will be the neighbor's front door lol.
So true @billy. Was thinking the exact same thing.
Smart Potatohead ! I like how you tilt the panel.
Happy New Year Slim! Goldie in Jax Fl
Problem? Slim: I will fix it! You have to be one of the smartest men I have ever seen. You can find a solution to any problem.
I'm pretty sure SP is smart because he so resourceful. When Slim makes the few mistakes he has shared with us, Slim admits it and learns from it. Slim is methodical in his testing and trying which is another sign of how bright he is. Lastly, Slim has a great sense of humor which is always a sure sign of intelligence.
@@johnswof Yeah the curry joke, only he could make a joke like that
Very inventive. There is a saying: "necessity is the mother of invention" and Slim is the daddy. Well done Slim!!
You really do know how to think outside the box, are you sure that you wasn't an inventer in a previous life!
Travels with Charley is a GREAT book! I "read" it in Audio format a few years ago. I totally recommend this book on audio, the narrator was amazing. Such a poignant story. :)
Audiobooks are great in general, especially because it helps spread out and pace the book, at least for me.
I’m a very fast reader but sometimes I read too fast and miss things, so I’ve been rereading a lot of my favorite books as audiobooks and I’ve been appreciating it a lot more
Glad I'm not the only one who wanders around a hardware store brainstorming. ;-)
And oh, of course! Glue a fender washer down for a magnet. I know where that's going...
External FM Radio antenna tip was worth the video. THANKS!!
Great to see ya back on the tube!!!!!
Hooray! Another year of adventure and education with a favorite RV channel. As a lifelong radio geek I always bring several radios, especially shortwave. Happy New Year Slim Potato Head. Peace.
Hi, then maybe I could ask you, was there an actual physical connection between his radio and the outside aerial, that he had to route through the camper? (I've got absolutely zero experience or knowledge about radios to fall back on!) Thanks for answering, if you feel like it!
Wire
@@regular-joe Yes, the physical connection is what he plugged into the external antenna jack on the radio. That physical wire ran from inside the trailer to the outside where he had an exterior antenna magnetically stuck to the camper.
@@rebbeshort thanks, friend!
Travels with Charley has been one of my faves for decades! Great book that inspired my nomad tendencies!
“Not Cold” there ... would freeze the buns off this Southerner. LOL
True, but as a fellow Canadian, I can say most of us up here cannot handle the summer heat/humidity combo in the southern US & gulf states.
You won't know cold unless you spent several months up at Kavick base, located at 197 miles north of the arctic circle, in the state of Alaska. During the winter time, the temps go down as far as -40 to -70 degrees bellow 0. Its so cold, that if you took a pot of boiling water and tossed it outside in the air, it would instantly freeze into snow.
@@stellarproductions8888 ... I actually got stranded in Goose Bay (Canada) in -50 temps. Yep, it’s a kicker alright.
I know about Kavick ... There’s a woman behind every tree. LOL 😂
'The south' was 26' degrees outside this morning, and boy howdy does the humidity matter- felt like -26' in Colorado (conversely a 99' degree in Colorado feels like a happy May 82' in the south, lol).
I hear ya. It was 70 today in the Phoenix area... 66 inside the house and I’m freezing. I’ve been wearing long sleeves and a jacket indoors for most of the day.
Warming that sauce was amazing, more cooking videos on please, like that.
eat when you are hungry, not when the clock tells you to eat ;-)
"it looks like vomit" :D LOL well looks can be deceiving
My son and his wife have a new baby and we were talking about if they woke her up to feed her and I told them, I wouldn't, she will let them know when she's hungry. And they need sleep while they can get it.
I added a comment and now it's not here. Wth
Happy New Year Slim. May 2021 be the best year for travels and adventures. Until 2022 comes along ;^)
Man after my own heart. Go to the hardware store and browse until i find something to fill the need I have.
Alberta is a beautiful provence. A couple years as go, I got to meet some great farmers on the rich prairies, and visit the rockies as well.
Another excellent travel memoir: BLUE HIGHWAYS by William Least Heat Moon.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos! Great idea for the solar panel.
Seems like this guy never runs out of ideas. 😁keep em coming.
As always...awesome fix for the solar panel. You have a gift, mate. I’ll try the Travels with Charlie, it’s available on audiobooks...yea!
Slim ya need to watch those painter poles. The more you loosen and tighten them the grummets inside will start to give way. I wouldn't want that expensive solar to come crashing down.
Vindaloo is actually portugese ... when they came to Goa and kerala they introduced this ... pork vindaloo is awesome... 😊
Indian s are everywhere
yes but there are subtle difference with the Portuguese which mainly uses wine vinegar vs the Indian version which replaces it with regular vinegar and some more spices iirc
I love Goan food most of all the Indian cuisines, so good
I did not know this, but next time we have Indian everyone will know this.
Your inventions are fascinating! Thank you for coming to share more of them with us.
I like how you look back towards the back seat like we are in the car with you. I wanted to look out the window!
We were 😁
@@ShandeleReynolds scoot over I wanna see out the window too ;)
Slim, I’m always so impressed by your creativity to solving problems. Enjoy your winter camping!
You never cease to amaze me! You are brilliant! All of your videos are so interesting...and educational...with a touch of humor. I just love every one of them. Stay safe. 👍👍👍👍👍😁
Happy New Year!
I'm glad you discovered the Tasty Bite meals. I love them
I love your tinkering!
brilliant! haha, someone commented "Smart Potatohead... " right on!
Once again I have enjoyed your latest installment while I have stopped for lunch. I really like your engineered solutions, totally practical and very cost effective.
Good luck and safe travels.
David in the UK.
John put his laundry in a bucket with soap and water in the back of that truck and it agitated around as he drove along. You and he have a lot in common as far as ingenuity goes. Thanks, Slim, for always giving us something to think about, plus a little nature to sooth our souls. Love your channel.
The sun will make your vent cover rot.I purchased an aluminum replacement that will last forever but eliminate any light. Only cost alittle more.
Great idea. What is the vent cover you purchased?
@@ericskarl5855 Ventline BV0534-00 Mill Dome Assembly for V2110 Ventadome
"I splurged $13 bucks for the antenna" lol so good love it
Brave experimental Slim out in the cold weather burr. Slim you and I are alike with quick easy meals. I'd like to see you add a few fruits to your diet lol. Be safe
second that! Blueberries = Brainberries - Eat 'em every morning Slim, freeze dried version!
@@BlissFortress why freeze dried??
@@ShandeleReynolds because he's on the road all the time and will store better than fresh or frozen.
I hope you remembered to turn off the light in your cabinet ! :-)
By the way, I love almost all the Tasty Bite products - I usually get the canned ones: Madras Sambar & Punjabe Chole. They don't look that great but, honestly, neither does pizza sometimes.
2pm UK time early boy Today slim earth potato
Have you ever thought of extending your Solar real-estate to the Jeep? Wondering if that would help? Great video and Happy New Year!
The camper is my base so I use the jeep to explore. Best for me to keep all solar at camp. Thanks! SP
I'm not ready to attach my solar panels to my Rpod..looking for ideas to somehow have them on a platform on my truck bed. Need to be able to raise, lower and turn panels.
@@patsykluting-lucas3804 Have you seen the solar panel on "Far Beyond Ordinary " minivan? That gives more headroom and tilts 4 ways.
@@patsykluting-lucas3804 get a rack like goes on top of Jeep's or whatever and put them on the sides of the truck bed, then attach the panels to them and fix them so you can tilt them from front to back or side to side.
By the way thanks for that Idea. If I choose a camper to travel in that would be perfect. Even if I choose to put a camper on my truck or switch to an SUV.
@@ShandeleReynolds thanks I'll check it out. I'm not as talented as Slim however I do attempt to create something rather than overpay for camping equipment. The down side is I'd need to remove (?) When exploring with truck and leaving Rpod in camp.
Ingenious solution... great video. I've been enjoying your channel. As for additional content ideas, I'd like to see one regarding security... have you had any theft issues while camping? becoming a bit of a problem here in the Southwest... do you secure your valuables (computer, camera equipment, ladder, etc) in your Jeep when away from camp?
I would love to have an idea approx. where you film each time. I know that there could be crazies around anywhere. So exact location is not necessary....Being from Calgary now I think you were stopped the first night at the Badlands valley on the way to Drumheller, and the second near Banff overlooking the Bow river.
One of your older videos looked to be near Strathmore....Most of them I don't know where you are.
Really enjoy and look forward to ALL your videos .Thank you.
awesome video as always I going to steal some stuff lol. the solar panel very Kool. the window coverings with clear plastic very cool. insulating the bins awesome idea. yeah you don't have to worry about content very cool video great ideas 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦
You might try an older Grundig YB400 radio (before china bought them). It has great FM sound quality, and can pickup ham radio operators with SSB. Gives you company.
Oh, Slim! I could have done without the reference to vomit. A simple "tastes better than it looks" would suffice. Lol. Love your videos anyway. You're a treasure.
Thanks for the book recommendation it has been on my "want to read" list for a while so now I'll read it!
ETA: Thanks for the video - I am very glad you decided to put your travel adventures together for this.
My friend i may not always comment on your videos but do know i really enjoy them..... as always u give such amazing tips ... Never feel it's not enough cuz it new stuff each time for us ...and even if u just sit there on your chair looking in to the wild it means a lot cuz from my comfort of my chair im imagining im there 😍..so thank you
Looks like vomit! What a way with words. You won’t be getting any James Beard culinary awards anytime soon! Another interesting video. Safe travels and Happy New Year!
My Dad always bought that Popular Mechanics magazine...Slim 🥔 reminds me of that. An alltime top favorite book of mine, and movies/plays is Of Mice and Men. I thought for sure that book Slim🥔 picked up was a old Western🤠, I don't read anything modern, I prefer older books. I just showed hubby a book series I have from a guy in the 70s, about travelling Vancouver Island.
That sir is very ingenious and quite appropriate I’m good looking tweak it out that’s great good job
I always get something useful from your videos. Today I got info about the external FM antenna, the great book recommendation, and the Tasty Bite Indian food. Haha! I had to rewind and make sure you said the word vomit. You've made the interior of your camper very cozy, nicely decorated. Even the look of your bedside lamp and clock make it look very home-y. Appreciate all of your videos! Keep them coming 🙂👍🏼
I just pulled my little trailer out of storage to play with today! Great timing!
Hi, dear Slim! You really are a genius with your tilt panel! I just love the story of Steinbeck with his french dog and his camper truck. Always a great pleasure to watch your videos.
What miles per gallon number do you get when pulling the camper on highway? Thanks
Thank you my friend you have a very good brainstorming
Hi Slim ... On the radio - well-known Canadian blues guitarist ... Colin James! Saw him in concert in a small hall in Bala, Ontario - one of the best I've ever been too - came on stage at 11:00 PM and finished at 2:30 am. Good idea on tilting the solar panel using adjustable supports. Cheers, Steve
The Kee to Bala! I used to work there summers when I was in college. I miss going there.
Color matched boots and jacket. I've been hanging around with my wife too much. Thanks again for another enjoyable video.
Thank you. Very clever solutions as usual. Travels with Charley is one of my favorite books as well!
Great video and great ideas . 👍👍👍 I read Travels with Charlie when I was 15 and I loved the book and now I’m going to reread it at 65. Thanks and
Happy New Year
Have you ever thought of a camper van? For the few requirements you have that seems perfect. Obviously not now with a new camper. But when you were looking to upgrade.
I like having my living quarters separate and detached while I do the backroads in my Jeep. Thanks! SP
@@SlimPotatohead I started browsing RUclips last year looking for ideas on camper van conversions then stumbled on your early Aliner videos (and have watched everything since!) and I have to say I’m now thinking you’ve got the right idea: separating your accommodation from your “exploring” vehicle. Wasn’t familiar with the Aliner but like the headroom - at 6’9” there aren’t many options for the freakishly tall - although still don’t think the bed would work :(
Nice video Slim, I can get hours of entertainment messing about with a radio and a length of copper wire, good to see you out and about again.
The coyote never had good luck with Acme brand products...lol.. I know you mean standard or universal type of thread, and i love to see your creativity!
Following slim is like taking a trip without actually taking a trip...😆
Spicy food on a cold day, great idea.
"Blue Highways" by William Least Heat-Moon, published in 1982.
Wow! I remember that sound as you walk on the snow. Whew, I had to leave the cold. I sure do enjoy viewing your videos though. Great information you put on here 👍🏼
So good ro see you again!
Jupiter's Travels, if you haven't read that decades ago.
hello from the sunny vibrant ozarks!! what to the wood stove?
I really enjoy your videos - from California
Absolutely love your ingenuity - great modification on the tilting solar panel - I'm betting you're going to get a lot more power out of it now. You are the epitomy of the old saying "if there's a will, there's a way".
Happy new year slim,👍👍
Happy New Year to you. Safe travels this year. Oh the places you will go!
We like to cook in our camper when it is dark outside. Helps to heat up the place, too!
You are a clever man. Thanks for all the great ideas!
I really like your videos. Great work enjoy your life 🍻
Always worthwhile. Thanks
It's good you're in Alberta when it came to finding wingnuts for those solar poles... plenty available here ( coming from a born and bred Albertan)
Slim: "It's cold out." 🙄
It is winter camping so not sure what he was expecting. 😉
Another great vid. Thank you always entertaining. The extension poles are a great idea. I do have a question. Could you leave the poles installed and just push the panel up from the twist lock position?
Good question John. I hope to replace the frame braces with two extendable poles. dual purpose. But I need to slide the panel a couple of inches first so the back doesnt interfere. Thanks! SP
When are you going to be prepared for a storm? I want to see how you hunker down for a few days of winter storm. Take care and stay safe, my friend.
Going into a storm at the beggining of snow season is just plain silly as the roads may not be cleared again until April. Spring you can take more risks. Thanks! SP
Thanks for the book recommendation. I really love Vagabonding by Rolf Potts.
I drink my coffee from a Steinbeck Museum mug! Rocinante was his camper’s nickname.
It takes a real man to coordinate his boots to his jacket. Purple at that, Lol
Blue??
Thanks for the sunshine, lol
Like the way you think. Your very creative. Especially the window insulation idea. Perfect.
Just what I needed after this crazy day in the US. I love your ingenuity! What mug was it? You have mercy?
I love how you rigged the solar panel! Amazing what you can find in a hardware store!
Thank you for your videos
I like winter when it's not too cold... it's not a joke!
Seeing the Steinbeck novel in your video and being a traveler I checked Amazon.ca and found the complete works of Steinbeck for Kindle edition for $1.99 CAD. What a buy. I now have over 5000 pages to delve into. Thanks for the videos. TrailWizard
He's one of my faves. Check out Tortilla Flats, Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday, and In Dubious Battle.
"The Grapes of Wrath" brings to mind SCTV's "The Grapes of Mud". Check it out. 😅
♥️ Travels with Charlie!
Going to get the book looks interesting. Make sure the extension poles don’t slip adding a hose clamp. 😎😎
When are you going back to AZ? I miss your videos camping out in the desert
Whenever the Canadian border opens up again.
Your creative engineering blows me away! You innovate things that have inspired me for years. Thanks for documenting all of the various things that you have come up with over your journeys.❤
By the way, have you ever considered getting a night vision yrail cam to check out the night time wildlife? I can't recommend one over another, but it would be interesting to see what comes along.
Happy new year to you slim. Does that radio have weather on it?
You may think that is a nothing video. But I (and obviously many others) enjoy the simplicity of just being able to get out and explore nature in these times of uncertainty and lockdown. Stay safe. And thanks !
Real life on the road. Nice to see you back. Brilliant solar panel lift. 🚗🌞
