Battle of Avdiivka - Animated Analysis

- Опубликовано: 20 сен 2024
- The city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine always had a little more war history than the other nearby towns. Without exaggeration, the battles of various intensities raged around it for 10 years. Located in the heart of the Donetsk Region to the northwest of Donetsk itself, it became a frontline city not in 2022 or 2023 with the full-scale invasion, but in 2014, when Russia just started its proxy war against Ukraine, often called War in Donbas. Despite the 4 months long occupation in 2014, subsequent liberation by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and numerous attacks in 2017, Avdiivka remained under firm Ukrainian control, becoming an important outpost just on the outskirts of occupied Donetsk.

I followed this particular battle since it started, this video was really nice to get an understanding of the timeline and progression of the battle, it’s obvious a lot of research and hard work goes into these videos!
Bakhmut was crazy man, I wonder if it was more epic
Somehow he only gets Ukrainian footage 🤔
There are some inaccuracies, and the misleading information could easily be debunked, as it's heavily cherry-picked. But hey, you don't need to be factual as long as the video is plausible enough to be watched, right
@@Cika044 probably this is ukrainian channel
It's interesting seeing how Russia has changed their tactics since Avdiivka, now most Russian vehicles have EW protection, collums are swapped for 2-4 vehicles, the use of motorbikes and cope cages increased. Now Russia is 9km from Pokrovsk because they've implemented lessons from their mistakes shown in this video. But man, seeing whole columns getting shredded is scary.
7km from pokrosvk right now, pokrosvk is also already failing a a logistic hub due to drones
This comment is not entirely true. Columns are still used. Reference the past 3-4 weeks of offensive operations on both sides of the conflict
@@Lucas-qk8lc Where exactly ?
Some places are still using large columns although i agree with you overall. The k2 guys are currently fighting off both kinds off attacks. Couple motorcycles or 1 or 2 tanks with infantry or full on waves.
Yeah but that doesn't mean Russia's new tactics are less costly......in many ways they are way more costly. For example since avdiivka Russia has been using more motorbikes and buggies like you say but these are unprotected from literally any fire and the losses they take from these attacks are insane. They still resort to around the clock meat wave attacks in the form of small groups of 5-10 infantry at a time trying to creep up on positions. This happens every hour and the media only talks about Russia's success......they don't note that 9 out of 10 of russian attacks get obliterated by drones, small arms and other various types of artillery.
Always looking forward to more of these!
Today is a good day, especially with the Toropets News still going.
It was just one battalion of the Third assault brigade that was involved in the withdraw operation
Same with most units shown. It should specify "elements of X brigade", as it seems to be the norm in how units are used in this war.

I adore these videos, but could we see more videos of Ukrainian loses? I noticed it was massively downplayed and neglected, especially with the Ukrainian retreat from the city, i remember seeing videos of hundreds of Ukrainians walking through fields escaping, Ukraine lost something like ~800 from the withdrawal alone, not to mention men left in the city. Still loved the video, your mapping is something special.
There was also the abandoned equipment that could not be retrieved due to the the botched retreat at the last minute.
You typically arent going to see much that doesn't support the "UKRANSA!" narrative, Ive followed the war since it kicked off and noticed that even now the coverage is still slanted in UKR favor. RUS has stated that their MAIN objective is not the taking of territory but the destruction of UKR fighting ability, the slow and constant grind of machines and personnel is whats happening but all you hear about is UKR invading Kursk.
Yes......they walked through the fields escaping......that's what retreating is. Ukraine was ordered to retreat, they didn't just decide to run for it at the last minute. The numbers that were confirmed is 150 men were casualties from the beginning of the retreat to the end. There is this idea that Ukraine leaves their men no option to retreat, the units in avdiivka were given a specific timeframe to retreat and 3rdAB was brought in to allow for other units to retreat. It didn't go perfectly to plan but the losses were minimal if you consider how many would have been captured if there was a complete encirclement. There was some large positions that got encircled and captured. The reason there isn't much coverage of the Ukrainian losses is because the losses were so insanely disproportionate from the beginning of the avdiivka offensive and Ukraine was so vastly outnumbered that Ukrainian losses were not a question on people's minds. The russian propagandist who revealed Russia's losses was killed the next day.
I mean, there arent many other ways to "retreat" in open ground while not risking the vehicles to the superior russian firepower so they just had to

The title of the video should be battlefield of avdeeka from Ukrainian views.
I feel like this video isn’t really neutral on information given
Endless russian orcs meatwave and dumb rush assaults against brave ukrainians that only retreats when theyre outnumbered
There's plenty of footage of big failed assaults, the type of footage you saw of failed assault waves of Ukrainians during their Summer offensive in 2023 happens to Russia on a much more regular basis since the start of the war.

What is the source of 16000 Russians KIA? I know there was some russian blogger that posted on Telegram that number but doesn't seem to be creditable source. Both sides closely keep their losses secret. And both sides sides greatly exaggerate the other side losses.
This blogger was ivolved in this war since 2014 and was seen as very credible by everyone involved.
16 000 was by the blogger that comitted suicide shortly after posting, and AFU claimed 17 000. No idea how much Russia says they lost

I manually counted 🇷🇺 infantry losses using hundreds-of-videos + pics from a 10-day period in mid-Feb. and identified 3,283 KIA + roughly 1,400 WIA. That’s nearly 5K casualties alone. IIRc, the UAF’s claims for 🇷🇺 losses during that 10-day period was circa 9k casualties. It took nearly two-weeks to examine all that media and cross-reference to make sure I wasn’t double counting anything. I’m sure there were also many casualties not visible on camera or simply never filmed.

The author watches a lot of Ukrainian propaganda. If he had reviewed Suvorov's battle when he took Izmail, he would have said that the Russians simply rushed in the hordes to the walls, and the Turks with the latest rifles, hid behind the walls built by the best engineers of the West and did not have time to fight them off, and the Turks had to take more advantageous positions inside the Izmail fortress and then they fought back there as harshly as possible, which affected the most enormous losses, which Suvorov made up for with newly mobilized Cossacks, and so the Russian Untermenschen (approved by hitler 👍) took Izmail.
For some reason, the Russian army turned out to be stronger, one small socialist country, the DPRK, can supply the entire Russian army with shells, while the entire NATO bloc with the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany cannot supply shells to Ukraine .
Some statements described by the author are refuted even by Western journalists who were physically in Avdiivka and showed how the Ukrainian army was fleeing uncontrollably from its positions, that the Ukrainian army had huge losses, there is also a video, where a bunch of wounded and killed Ukrainian fighters are lying around, there is a bunch of videos of captured Ukrainians, who, like the entire army of Paulus, for some reason were not executed, and of course no one will talk about these videos, because the Russians are not people , you know. But they do not show us this, because otherwise it will turn out that ... Oh, the Ukrainian army suffered a huge defeat, and not because “the Red Army men fled in hundreds to the machine guns in Stalingrad and the Germans ran out of ammunition.” Stop believing in Western propaganda.
At the same time, where is the objectivity, it is shown how the Ukrainians repel unsuccessful attacks of the Russian army in detail, and even individual “victories”, but the failures of the Ukrainians are not shown, why did the Ukrainians retreat, how did such a breakthrough happen?
"Retreated to stronger positions", "had to retreat". The only thing missing is news about the "bangs" that the Ukrainian military heard when the bombs landed, which did not bomb the retreating Ukrainian columns (which, by the way, is also a lie, there are geolocations of the strikes, anyone who followed the map knows this, the Ukrainians were unable to secretly bring out anything, everyone on the retreat road was bombed with everything possible, including the FPV drones of the Russian army) How did the breakthrough happen in this place, the Ukrainians have such modern (no) Bradley equipment? Who needs this objectivity.
banderovites are executed in the same way as the Red Army executed SS soldiers on the spot, it is completely normal to kill Ukrainian fascists. If you've watched enough Ukrainian propagandists that the Russians are "fascists", you just need to look at the flag of the 114th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and compare it with the flag that the Russians put on the Reichstag in 1945. What exactly is biased here? It's just a retelling of what happened lmao. The only thing I could say was one sided is combat footage. He showed plenty of failed russian assaults but didn't show footage of ukrainians retreating out of the city.
Losing meat waves after meat waves and losing tank waves after tank waves only gives phyrric victory. In the end Russian accomplishes very little and “saved” very little lives.
The Russians did not lose but how long did it take them to capture it, how much equipment and manpower did they lose?
At this point, he's just insulting Ukrainian heroes who actually lost heroically in battle. Like, I know Wagner is just a number, but damn... these Ukrainian heroes aren't even acknowledged for their sacrifice according to him, they simply disappeared and went missing
Narasi yang bagus.,apakah video ini sudah di upload sebelumnya atau ini baru?
Russia might have suffered heavier losses when they were storming the city at the beginning, but once they encircled the Ukrainians it was all over. It was a complete one side massacre in the end
what about the dozens of videos circulating on the internet showing dead bodies in what appeared to looked like a rout, you failed to mention it. You also failed to mention the heavy roll the new FAB played during the battle. again why?
Even the AFU soldiers there said they get pounded by ~90 FABs/ day
And he did not even mention that the inaccuracy of UMPK Fab is NOTHING compared to its explosion range. So why you have to spend trillions of USD to fix the goddamn wing of JDAM when you just spend extra Rubbles to insert more explosive to the bomb and negate its inaccuracy completely
Lessgo!! Now lets see an analysis on the intent of the Kursk advance and the capture of Bakhmut
Finally the most bloodest battle that has led to the current battles and the taking of the most fortified position in all of Ukraine this battle will be reviewed for years to come bravery all round. Don't care how you feel politically it takes guts to attack take such a fortress.
Too much "However".
"Ukraine came up with FPV Drones" *American military industrial complex laughing*
and they stopped laughing once they realized that ukraine were the ones to first implement kamikaze fpvs on a large scale in medium range combat an totally transformed how war is fought. The claim isnt that ukraine invented the airplane my dude.
@@erikholm8918 Ukraine only utilised these because the EU and American military staff were planning new strategies for ukraine to fight and supplied them with the know how lmao... The attack drone concept was already made and tested in the US and brought to Ukraine as proof of concept.
@@cptpayday2080 yes you are right, Ukrainians are to regarded to realize that kamikaze fpvs work they needed the USA for that.
@@erikholm8918 yea bro some backwater third world military just came up with the most sophisticated warfare method within minutes of being invaded
Combat FPV - an invention of ordinary soldiers of the Signum unit from the 93rd brigade of the AFU. Their first successful use was documented in July 2022, the video is available on RUclips. Ukrainian volunteer and blogger Sterneko has a video about FPV development, as he was the first to pay attention to this development and actively promoted and lobbied for it in the army.
Neither the US nor the EU dont have any relation to FPV, all parts were purchased from China by both sides, but now both sides have long established a full cycle of their production.

Good analysis!
If the US approves the budget, Advicka will remain an unassailable fortress.
Avdeevka is far behind the frontline right now 😁
@@suyashtiwari8444 oh yeah, 13 km of the nearest Ukrainian positions, a lot in 7 months of active offensive battles since the capture of Avdiivka
@@NorthernForest33 is actualy 25-30 km away and advances of hundred of kilometers are not really expected in attritional warfare.
It's only slowdown the progress, the most fault was concentrated everything for the offensive on entire front while politicians cannot keep their mouth shut about it. Kursk operation gained initial success because no one talked about it, but the offensive that cost Ukraine everything be told on TV, social networks and on congress of every nation Zelensky moved to already gave Russia enough information to counter it. Beside, they started too late, enough for Russia to fully applied defense-in-depth tactic. This let to many positions around Adivka did not be fortified in-time, footages showed many trenches were single-line and has very little or no connection, many even without obstacles outside, it is a sign of quickly digging.
@@okyes3717 1 minute of checking and the result is 13 km to the nearest Ukrainian positions in the Alexandropol area. This is the point, this is a war of attrition, only the attacking army suffers more losses, except in cases where the attacking army has complete dominance, as it was in the American-Iraqi war, in this war Russia does not have such an advantage, otherwise this war would have already ended
Fabs are better than American Jdams. Why? They are cheap and can be spammed
When the video starts with "... in 2014 when Russia just started its proxy war in Ukraine..." you know you have to take what comes next with a grain of salt.
Channels like this one, Kings and Generals, etc. that purport to do battle analysis should leave out the propaganda as it would grant them more credibility.
For those that are interested in the conflict as a whole I would refer you to Col. McGregor, Col. Wilkerson, Larry Johnson, Ray McGovern, Prof. Mearsheimer and many other regular guests of the Judge Napolitano's Judging Freedom show.
YESS FINALLY WE GOONA WITNESS THIS BATTLE
Someone know what all these markings on Russian vehicles means ? I know the basic one like O and V but the O in triangle ?
This must be lies, SURELY it didn't take the 2nd best army in the world a year to take a single city right in some poor weak country right?!?!?
instant like!
Hey I like your videos and one more thing I want to tell you Miss some things there are a couple of occasions you miss in this battle when was Russian they got startling and also to they were using Jammers for take out cons and also take out drones that's why the Koreans have a hard time getting orders on radio and with drones just wanted to tell you that police reply when you have a chance to don't worry I like your videos
Great !
is the ukrainean drone reconnaissance using discord to display the footage?
Yea some units use discord as a means to communicate and display what drone/reconnessance units see, so they can coordinate with artillery units.
only show a russian losses. nah
On the capturing ruins part this war a siege were the besieged do not surrender get hammered out by the ones laying the seige the cities end after the wars then get repaired this is what the Mosul suffered from while ISIS held it.
Fuck yes! Love your channel keep it up brother! I love waking up with coffe and watch a breakdown of todays fucked up world.. much love man!
Welcome to the Russian Federation, Avdeyevka!
quite informative video, just wish you’d equally cover failures on BOTH sides more
“Fun fact” is you can say it that way. After the battle of Bahkmut Russia had to pause the progress to recuperate and consolidate forces, in contrast the siege of Avdiivka keeps with momentum hinting that the casualties of 1 of the sides are complete fabricated, either Russia lost less personnel that people speculated or Ukraine suffered much more that they portrayed it, either way you cannot scape of logical thought here
holy low iq
And I think causalities of Ukraine was much higher, remember Orychentyne disaster? Many theorized that the real reason was because the unit supposed to replace the guard moved out of their shift did not exist anymore.

Anybody that followed the battle in detail knows russia took heavy losses in the beginning of the battle but once russia broke thru the defensive lines the Ukrainens got wrecked afterwards . The russians didnt have a choice but use brute force to dislodge the Ukrainens out of there defensive positions . In war you have accept your going to take losses theres no such thing as a perfect victory. At the end of the day Ukraine lost the battle and payed a heavy price trying hold advika. To say Ukraine didnt take heavy losses is ludicrous. Ukraine thru everything they had to hold advika and still lost . Advika paved the way to prokrosk .
There are tactics and strategies that have been in place for decades to minimize the expected losses during these sorts of operations however.
Comparing Russia's performance in Ukraine so far to something like Desert Storm is such a vivid difference that it's hard to grasp for many.
Russia theoretically has the same equipment and potential to replicate the advantages of the Coalition powers in the Gulf War, but don't due to misappropriation of resources and a clear lack of inter-service co-operation.
Air power is held back to such a limited capacity due to Russia's inability to achieve air supremacy despite having the resources and equipment possible to do so.
This is why I don't think Russia deserves the title of second 'greatest' power militarily, since it can't seem to provide any precedence to the claim.
@@aussie870 camparing desert storm to Ukraine is like comparing apples and oranges. Huge difference between the two . Ukraine is a nato backed army . The iraqi army was a hyped up army by the west to make it seem like they defeated a great adversary but reality the iraqi army was complete garbage from the start. Without nato support and preporation the Ukrainen army would of suffered the same fate and that is the truth . Nato intelligence and satellites is the main reason why Ukraine knows when and where the russians are going to attack without it ukraine would be blind as a bat . There is many other things nato offers to ukraine aswell that you have to take into consideration. Without nato support the Ukrainen army would of been defeated very easily most likely within 6 months . So russian tactics and stragetys would of worked if nato never got involved. Its hard to defeat an enemy that can see your every move coming from miles away .
Not big on a lot of the explicitly pro-ukrainian youtubers. But aside from preferentially only mentioning war crimes from one side, you provide some very, very valuable/comprehensive post-battle analysis. I really like your overviews. Its easy to get lost on the day-to-day detail and forget the bigger picture imo.
the thing is, obviously both sides commit warcrimes. but theres definitely one side that is commiting not only more and more gruesome ones, but thats also openly bragging about them to an extent that is just sick.
@@kasii5331 I don't know man, the number of videos from Ukraine drones executing wounded russians soldiers on X and telegram is massive. And such videos are realease almost every days, with entire channels or accounts dedicated to it.
I largerly prefer Ukraine than Russia, as Ukraine has a better democracy and improved a lot before the war. But I will not forget than Ukrainians share a lot of cultural aspects with Russians and were countrymen for a long time before their independence. Knowing that, I am skeptical to Ukrainians being that more innocent than Russians.
both sides do that because its almost impossible to safely evacuate POWs back to friendly lines

The amount of cope is so obvious. If you care that much, you should probably go and fight instead of being a crybaby and straight up pulling claims from your ass.
Russians literally using the good old ”keep attacking until they run out of ammunition” tactic to great effect here
Are you stupid or something
КАК?
Thats what this video wanted you to believe it. In reality, is not how russia win this heavily fortresses stronghold city
My friend was in Avdeevka just before its capture, he was a machine gunner of the 3rd assault brigade, he was in position for three days and, according to his story, he killed a lot of Russian soldiers. He received a bullet wound to the head and miraculously survived. It was a big mistake to bring in the 3rd Assault Brigade at the end of events; many guys died.
sorry, I wrote through a translator))
I can confirm Macestun was first
The Russians did an outstanding job conquering this stronghold which was heavily defended. They are the most experienced country in modern war right now.
Unfortunately, the commentator is quite the fan of Ukrainian regime seems like. Very one sided.
Ukraine defender with many brigades and regiment is combat ineffective. This causes AFU is in deep trouble with gap between war of attrition and war of getting meat grinders (force conscript).
Why regime bro? Ins't the kremlin a regime by default?
it was far from a controlled retreat it looked like a run as fast as you can in the opposite direction of the russians retreat
