  • Before Brad Bird had the Incredibles, one of his big claims to fame was the Simpsons, and their incredible strange music video. Does it still hold up? NC takes a look at, Do the Bartman.
    Support this week's charity - www.compassion...
    "Do the Bartman" is a song from the 1990 Simpsons album The Simpsons Sing the Blues. It was performed by The Simpsons cast member Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson), with backing vocals from Michael Jackson, alongside additional vocals from Dan Castellaneta (voice of Homer Simpson). A music video, directed by Brad Bird, was released for the song in 1991.

    Jackson being a fan or working on the song doesn't surprise me his fingers were in a lot of pies in the music industry, often uncredited. After all he got Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" its contract and even did the backing vocals after hearing it pitched for the first time.
    Man was a shrewd businessman and musician, and all we remember him for are bad jokes about kids and monkeys.

    I was listening to an interview Brad Bird did recently on Q, and the animation in Hungary was even more complication. Initially they were confident that they could animate it...because the only simpsons they'd seen were the Tracey Ullman shorts. They kinda went "oh shit" when bird showed them the simpsons at the time, but still managed to do it.

    You're absolutely right Nostalgia Critic about the old style of Simpsons animation! Heck, in modern Simpsons we don't even get animation sequences like when Homer had a heart attack! It was so dramatic, visually stunning and really a gem to behold! Some other honorable mentions would be Bart is a vampire, Homer eating the Guatemala peppers, and Homer sells his soul for a donut! Now those are fantastic!

The choreographer for the "Do The Bartman" music video, Michael Chambers is actually none other than "Boogaloo Shrimp" from the "Breakin'" movies! Isn't it just mind-blowing how the show's creators got Brad Bird, Michael Jackson, and freaking Boogaloo Shrimp from the Breakin' movies to work on the "Do The Bartman" music video. Geez! That's pretty amazing! Also, I hope you don't mind me asking; but could you maybe do a review of Cloud Atlas, or of Across The Universe sometime in the near future. After months of hearing various rumors and tidbits of information while trying to avoid getting too wrapped up in it because the details are quite sketchy and all over the place; I finally broke down and read about the Channel Awesome Controversy. I don't know what to think about it. Mostly, because I don't know the whole story and it MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be as dramatic as everyone is dragging it out to be; but hey that's not my place to judge... what do I know. However, I'm not going to stop watching Channel Awesome or Nostalgia Critic. I'm sorry to hear that many of the wonderful contributors to Channel Awesome have left due to such devastatingly shocking developments. I hope that the people still at Channel Awesome will work hard to make sure that things will get better at the company; and I hope that Doug, Rob, and company can eventually mend many of their relationships with those that have left who are upset and hurt. I would really like to see Doug eventually do another crossover again with people like the Angry Video Game Nerd, Black Nerd, Angry Joe, Some Jerk With A Camera, Linkara, Mike Jeavons, Film Brain, Chris Stuckmann, Lil Karibo (God I hope I didn't spell that wrong), MasakoX, etc... I hope that they can eventually put aside their enmity to make good videos together again for us; because when Doug collaborates with others, that's when his reviews are the most special and the most enjoyable to watch (well that and the commercial specials).

    What’s even more amazing was that this music video came out at the time when the Simpsons animation didn’t look that good. Around the time of the first two seasons. Look how good everyone and everything looks in the music video compared to those two seasons. It’s impressive.

    • @AndrewsMagicandMore
      @AndrewsMagicandMore 6 лет назад

      Genre Smith Productions That's because the show at the time was done by a different animation studio (Klasky-Csupo) - the one and the same animation studio that worked on "Rugrats" a year after the music video aired.
      It wasn't until 1992 when the show switched to using a different animation facility (Film Roman)
