- New footage has emerged of one of the escaped cavalry horses which appears to show the animal with an injured leg.
Four people have been taken to hospital after they were injured when a number of military horses broke loose and caused carnage in central London.
The animals, one of which appeared to be covered in blood, were seen running around Whitehall and Victoria, with two of the horses reaching as far as Limehouse and Shadwell.
Witnesses reported seeing a soldier falling to the ground, while an army spokesperson confirmed that a number of personnel and horses had been injured and were receiving medical attention.

Poor horse. Hope it recovers quickly.
It's fully recovered can't you see? That paint, I mean blood was coming from It's neck...all healed now of course or it would have been dead hours earlier

@@carmendarling4237 Wow!! & BTW i never ate any horse meat in that cheap meat scandal 10yrs or so ago either.
@@russell-di8jsMy mother visited the place my father was killed in after a US War Ship carrying VIP passengers, which evidently were far more important, so they torpedoed The Curosell in Narvik Norway. She took up employment as a children's nanny and house keeper. Her second employers had to rescue her from her first and they treated her exceeding well and as part of the family. Teaching and perfecting her Norwegian, cooking their cuisine and she always dined with them. The man was the Norwegian equivalent to being the owner of The Most VIP Newspaper in Oslo, so high prestige similar to The Times.
One day whilst eating with the family my mother asked what the meat was? She was answered in Norwegian but didn't understand. The woman stood up and told me mother to "Come" with her to the window. She pointed down below onto pastures where horses were and my mother felt nauseous and gulping back ran from the room.
My father is Norwegian and he has never eaten it and he dislikes a dry salty fish 🐟 dust specialist called "Lujefisk" which is held in high esteem by those who reside in the country. It's dried out and smothered in salt and hung outside for many months until no moisture remains! 😱👍🏻
This horse will get the best care ever, they are loved and cared for these soldiers, hope this beautiful horse recovers soon x
These horses will receive the very best veterinary care and the troopers that were injured will be well looked after too.
I don't mean to be contrary, I am just wondering; how do you know? Of course that is what they say, but what happens to the horses if they can't stand in those boxes by the gates or march through miles of the parade route?
@@11cabadger Exactly - this kind of trauma in road traffic impacts mean they will not be able to work again.. And this one put his leg through a bus window - glass cuts all over him.. likely if his leg is broken or ligaments severed that he will be pts... These animals are not kept as pets..
A concrete city is no place for a horse, it shouldn't have been there in the first place, then it wouldn't have had to be treated with veterinary care at all. It's simple animal abuse.
It's in stable condition. 🙂

Do you have a dog? Do any of your family or friends have a dog? Do you (or they) live in a city or town? Are you aware that some dog owners have only time to walk their pets at certain times of the day, sun, snow or rain etc, on hot, cold or wet concrete... Why single out horses which are both well-trained and well-cared for within their lives of duty...?
Any animal can freak out at loud unexpected noises. A dog being walked by his / her owner could just as easily shy away at the sorts of sounds which seems to have spooked those horses, and in so doing, just as easily and swiftly tug their owner into the road and under a bus or heavy goods vehicle.
Are you so against the ownership of animals that you deny the good they can do for their owners, sudden panics caused by accidental unexpected means aside?
Horses have evolved alongside mankind, first as being preyed upon for their meat values, then as "beasts of burden" til they carried men in war, taught children, horses are and become friends and family to us all.
Your attitude leaves much to be desired if your first and only consideration is for an animal who in just an instant returns to its natural habit of running from perceived danger - but seemingly none for the Troopers and passersby also injured during the stampede of a few startled equines.
I love horses as much as any would, especially having worked with, ridden, cared for so many, plus having taught others to do likewise, and I don't understand why they are to be denied the chances to live and work alongside people who care very much for their health and welfare.
_Where_ they live and work is not so much an issue as _how_ they are living and working, and who rides and cares for them.
Could you do better if you had them in your personal care, as well as they are currently cared for?
I think not...unless you keep several horses with a superb environment, feed them their hay and short feeds in gilded mangers, with water from the freshest, cleanest of containers, on fresh straw or shavings laid upon scrubbed floors within stables which have excellent ventilation - but no draughts, warm rugs for the coldest months, good lighting via inaccessible wiring, fire control, trained vets on standby, devoted grooms and well-made, well-fitting tack etc etc etc... have you these facilities, enabling you to improve upon the type of care the army horses enjoy?
If so, carry on ...but don't add to their woes by criticising their current levels of care due soley on a freak accident which occurs so very rarely that it stops London in part, and makes certain people who know little or nothing about horses want to complain, whilst perhaps their own pets wait indoors for an equal level of attention.
Awful to see it covered in Blood, hope it's ok.

@@balianofibelin1 Well he was lying. No surprise there. The horses are in a "serious condition".
A statement has been released stating that the horses were back at the barracks and being looked after by the vets.
And I have a question for you Do you own horses?
Because if you do then you would know that sometimes, something looks really bad and once cleaned up, it is not as bad as you first think
Blame the builders for throwing rubble down a chute into a skip as they were going past, not the riders
That makes a hell of a noise- especially in echoey city streets. Plume of dust, too most likely.
Builders were working behind thick mesh to keep any dust from flying about it's not anyone's fault, horses spook trust me on that one I have hit the ground soooo many times, you never know how they are going to react
No tack on runaway horses so they were probably held by riders on other horses & it'd be easier for these to run.

Horses are not used in wars anymore and should never have been leave these magnificent animals alone and leave wars to the cruelty of man.
If I see paintings of battles - it's the horses I feel sorry for... (I know they're not alive now, but at one time there were horses on the battlefield)
On the basis on one unfortunate event you want to end all cerimonial horses? What about the childrens hampsters? Will you come for those as well?
Your comment is so stupid on so many levels had we left them alone then you'd probably still be working the fields from morning to night just to feed yourself and horses would be the least of your worries I'd even suggest there's a strong possibility you wouldn't even exist it's like saying "fire is majestic it should be left alone" we'd still be living in caves, I'm certain if you lived in the 1400s for 2 years and I said you could go home but the horses would be treated even worse then before you'd still take the deal.

Grey. It's a Grey horse. No such thing as a White horse. Something new you've learnt today.
@susan9188. Yes, you’re correct that the horse in this video is gray but you’re incorrect that there are no white horses. True white horses are rare but they do exist. True white horses are born white with pink skin & blue or amber colored eyes. There have been several true white Thoroughbreds (descendants of a horse named Patchen Wilkes) & Quarter Horses. There’s actually a breed called the American White Horse. Now, you’ve learned something today.

If you look up the history they have been doing this everyday for 150 years. The horses have the best care in the world. They exercise in nearby park. The Guards are serving Soldiers so are the Horses. They have their own Vets. They do 1 hour in rotation in Horse Guard Parade. Tourists are a pain here. There was workmen nearby they dropped something from a great hight that spooked the Soldiers.
The best care in the world would not involve bringing them to a city for tourists to gawp at.
Poor sweet horse 😢❤😢 hope everyone is being gentle and reassuring and that h cavalry horses are adopted out to KIND people after suffering trauma and injury.

What exactly was disturbing in this video……the horse willingly and gently raising his leg??……concerned persons treating him?
I'm thinking it was probably the leftover blood smears. A truly potent trigger for the poor fragile snoflayks of the world who wouldn't know which end of a horse to feed, let alone how to deal with even the most minor injury to one. Their heads would likely explode on the spot if they'd ever seen some of the stuff that my 50+ years of making my living with horses has exposed me to... Horses are ABSOLUTE GENIUSES at finding ways to get themselves bunged up!
Shocked to see how scared it was. Hope they give him the best vet care and reward him with a well deserved early retirement. Please, don't put him down!
These are massive horses. They get the absolute top notch vet services, physical conditioning and training. A war horse will not stop. They will be so well cared for and back healed in no time.
I know he will be getting the best care in the country . I hope the firm are fined , they must have heard the horses , could not stop for 5 minutes to allow them to pass
Poor thing, he must of been terrified.

speedy and full recovery to all horses and riders. i have a horse i can relate. bloody construction work.
Construction work in a city. How unusual and unexpected!
Those are guards used on the legs during transit. Look for the bus pictures and you will see that his chest is the injury location.
Thank you! The Independent seems to be the only news outlet answering the question, What happened to the bloodied horse?
Will we know what they ultimately do to the horses? Peaceful retirement or "euthanasia".
As a horseman with 50+ years of experience, likely neither - Unless there's something such as a joint injury (which doesn't appear to be the case in any of the footage of the event I've seen so far) he'll probably be back on duty in 2-3 weeks, tops. Horses, especially light-colored ones, tend to look like they've been attacked by a madman with a chainsaw, even when the actual wound is something you can cover with the end of your thumb. I expect he's gonna be tender on his feet for a bit (running a horse on pavement is a good way to make them sore) but otherwise, no big deal. Depending on exactly how bad the rider hit when he came off, the horse may be ready for duty again before the rider is.
When they retire there is a property where both the horses and police horses go and it is absolutely beautiful and they are very well looked after
@@balianofibelin1 thanks, I hope so. (BTW I never believed Richard I's slander 😉)

perfect example of a real story. Someone with cellphone recorded it even in an empty street .

I amazed it kept running with that injury!
Adrenaline... It anaesthetises initial pain / soreness...any pain, soreness or discomfort will be eased by the vet applying suitable treatment to aid healing with the horse/s allowed and encouraged to rest til any non-life threatening injuries heal enough to gently be exercised to get muscles and tendons fit again. Bones can be set especially if not weight-bearing but ligaments and tendons are harder to heal. Cantering or galloping on hard surfaces such as London's roads and pavements are harder in horses legs and gloves than sand or grass if course plus standard shoes tend to slip which is why a lot of farriers shoe, using non-slip devices if the horse needs to work on hard surfaces, or in other slippery conditions. Showjumpers or Eventers often wear studs in their shoes to help grip on fast surfaces too. These are then unscrewed after their particular activity. Horses have been known not just to spook at weird / loud noises or unrecognisable 'dangers' such as black or white plastic bags stuck but windblown in hedgerows or trees or they decide to run in their field, jump out of their field and canter into their stable yard, slipping on the change of surface underfoot from dirt to concrete, like the sadly late champion racehorse
'Kauto Star' whi jumped out of his field and did exactly as described above, breaking his hip in the fall and during his surgery unfortunately he took a turn for the worst and had to be eunanised. Another beautiful racehorse colt ('Rewilding') literally broke his leg just on the run in at a race and obviously had to be euthanised in the spot. It's very sad but horses, despite their size and seemingly strong bodies are fragile in some senses, in that, for example, they have delicate digestives systems and require specialised feeding and routines suited to the work they do - or don't do, as they still need specialist feeding and routines even if not in work, or they could suffer digestives problems such as _colic_ or _scald_ or issues leading to _intersussection_ (sp) - the first and last of those conditions can easily be life-threatening. Owning / keeping horses is not for the 'faint of heart'. They're not only expensive in a lot of cases to buy (but unfortunately not always) but expensive to keep / care for. People who do must be prepared for the life of their horses (or ponies) to be filled with love, and lots of work and care if they and their animals are to enjoy long and happy lives..,but unfortunately, luck also seems to play a part, as it does, indeed, for most of us. Here's hoping all will be well, if not soon, then after a period of rest, treatment and continued love...and to the Troopers too. 🏴🤔🇬🇧❤️🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴❤️🖖
You better not be abusing those horses.
Sorry cue me in here ! Is it from where the horse was previously or did he/she accidentally collide into a car or bus ? In any event, glad they were treated and things get better
Love you, London 👍🆘✝️🚄⛑️
Do we know what spooked them, and are the soldier and the horses all ok?
I read a report that said some building work nearby spooked them. Four soldiers were thrown off. Three had to go to hospital with injuries but aren't life threatening and the fourth soldier was unhurt.
It was Rishi Sunak's voice.
I'm so glad they are safe..it was frightening watching them running scared in the streets..
A few swims in the pool to exercise it without putting pressue on the joints and it will be right as rain. Horses are tough creatures and pretty resilient. Some of these comments don't give the horses the respect or credit they are due. Nor the people who look after them. These things happen and they recover with the correct care, which they are getting.
If they can't fix it, they will put him down. Which is humane. Poor horse.

The Militrary need to urgently review how they manage service horses undertaking road work within the context of modern day challenges. The events earlier this week may have been avoided if a pre-ride reconesance excercise had taken place. This is a must in today's London. The Militrary need to work with the mounted police regarding safety in preparing horses for public duty and roadwork. Hi VIS(ability) PPE was missing from both horses and riders. This may have caught the eye of the construction workers prompting them to stop work whilst the troop passed by. The police use PPE effectively for horse and rider. The army needs to realise that safety comes before traditional exercise dress. Following the British Horse Society Riding and Road Safety Guidelines for a start. An outcome from these events must be that Hi VIS PPE is mandatory for roadwork..
If the Royal horses escape in a process, it could symbolize a loss of control or authority. Horses are often seen as powerful and majestic creatures, so their escape could represent a break in tradition or disruption in a structured environment. It may also suggest a need for swift action to rectify the situation and regain stability. In a broader sense, it could serve as a metaphor for unexpected challenges or obstacles that one must face and overcome in a position of power or authority.
Horse cantering on asphalt without being in flight mode or ridden, can become seriously lame, right up to long term tendon injury and pedal bone fractures (bone in the hoof) unfit for riding is the outcome. (At best!!)
Horse shoes on asphalt is like ice skating, no grip! but THIS today... omg!! The site of the white horse broke my heart! I think the traffic needs to be like the one in Newmarket. Horses before cars but more intensified in London. Its a no-brainer that there's too much traffic and city noise compared to 20/30 years ago. Its madness and utter negligence and all that for an antiquated show for tourists and the odd royal celebration at best. If you want to keep up tradition adapt it to modern traffic to assure safety for all, for gods sake!
Edit* _grey_ horse (_not_ white) white horses have pink skin and are seen less often. Grey horses have grey or black skin - like the Austrian school of Equitation ha "white" stallions - Lipizzanwr horses are usually born black or brown, some whiten as they age and around twelve years of age - if still stallions - they are trained and ridden in the School. They look white but called grey as they retain their black skins. However, usually army horses and police horses are geldings
(or mares) and the stallions being gelded will make them better suited to their regular work duties and make them easier to handle.
Stallions are kept for breeding and their work duties differ from horses in general usage. (Sorry, got slightly distracted from the original point!) 🤔🐴🏴❤️🇬🇧🐎🖖
How are the horses today. Have heard NOTHING in the news
I’m sure that poor horse will be very well cared for. He looks relieved to have the gustos around him. Those horses are unlikely to be safe in the London streets again thanks to the actions of those builders
Get well soon.
As I stated before horses should never have been used in wars and should not be paraded as so they whom disagree look what just happened.
Omg. That's very upsetting
Beautiful horse Iam happy it’s going to be ok🙏🏻
Who told you that. They are in a serious condition according to latest reports.
So noble animal!!!.
Why can't there be full reporting as to WHY in particular, that white horse was so covered in blood, loads on its chest and also blood running down one leg? What exact injuries occurred and how, if so much blood ended up on its chest?? Were they accidentally inflicted by, perhaps the sword of the mounted soldier, as he fell, or from spurrs etc? So much info is missing about this. Plus considering we are so observed everywhere we go by cctv, there is no video footage of what happened??? For the reasons above, I don't believe they were spooked by builders making too much noise. It must have been something else...
I used to have a horse when I was a teenager and I was taught to loop my arm through the reigns as I fell. This did work to stop the horse bolting but with the uniforms they have to wear and carrying a sword, that would be next to impossible to achieve, I imagine! And even if he did find a way to do that, if the black horse bolted first and the white horse was determined to follow, there’s nothing on gods green earth that would have stopped him/her. I feel terrible for both the white horse and rider, there was just so much blood!
How, did the horse get hurt and where did the blood come from ??????
Most commenters think this light horse is the one who crashed into the front window of a bus, but it's not. There's a clip of that actual incident: The light horse was already bloodied at that time; and it was one of two black horses running a few seconds ahead who hit the bus.
At this stage, the only people who have any chance at all of actually knowing the answer to that wuestion haven't (and likely won't bother wasting the effort) said anything abotut how, when, or where the injury that caused the bleeding happened. As I've said elsewhere, chances are *VERY* high that the actual cut/poke/whatever is quite minor, but on a light-colored horse, even the equivalent of a "skinned knee" frequently looks like the critter was attacked by a madman with a chainsaw.
😢
How did it get blood all over it's chest from an injured hind leg?!???
