I'm so disappointed that emily perceives crying and distress as weak. Having a shitty year, with the man you love dying and doing other depressing stufft, allows you to be sad. Strength doesn't mean tou can't be sad.
That's what some of the hate for season 3 came from that people don't understand. It not that some of just out of no where hated felicity but her character became weaker and different from season 2. Like yea witness Sara died but when we saw the old Felicity in the arrow/flash crossover and how didn't cry when mentioning what's going that's the felicity we want to see who hopefully comes back in season 4.
TheVigilanteT you missed the point i was making : crying does NOT mean you're weak. What do you want guys ? For ehr to be happy bubbly and quirky ALL THE TIME ?! she can't..She's human..She couldn't because everything went to shit in s3... the season was FAR FROM GOOD....But calling her a whiny bitch makes me sad..Because it's always like that with female characters...people like them as long as they're only ONE DIMENSIONAL...When they're smart and witty or like Black Widow when they're super strong...BUT God help they have other emotions.... S3 was wayyy too dark, the wrtr shave admitted it...they kid of fucked up, they went to fr down the depresion line... It would have been weird for her to still be bubbly..I mean if she had been liek that people wold have said that she didn't gave a shit about oliver...
Alexfolledemoi Felicity as many consider is the light of the team so unfortunately she was look up to being the strong female character. Not saying she couldn't be sad but crying the throughout the other half of the series isn't her character.
TheVigilanteT That's debatable. It's because as the heart of the team, she's highly emphatic and cares for people. Her drive as a hero stems out of those values. I feel the authentic thing would have been to have all for all those crappy things happened too her and the ones she loves, and for her to not be emotionally affected by them. That's definitely in her character. It seems authentic to me for Felicity to allow herself to feel and express how she was feeling. I understand the happy banter side is one of her universally liked traits, but I think it was fair to show that there are more sides to her character. It adds depth to her character, making less of a nerdy archetype. I think people has this set ideas of what a strong female character is and how it should be portrayed, that it limits female characters and doesn't do females any service. Vulnerability (which I think was what Felicity showed on S3) isn't weakness. Inaction is. Felicity was never paralyzed by tears. Everyone on S3 went through some sort of identity crisis, exploring where they stood, what they believed in, what they wanted out of life. What Emily mentioned is that, in the process of finding her way, Felicity may have not been entirely "authentic" (meaning, not entirely herself.) Which can be a disappointment, but that's also fair and human. What's not fair is to single out her character for going through her own journey, just as the rest did. The good news is the characters came out of S3 on top. That was just the season's arc. In many ways, S3 was purging... cathartic....because those tough questions of identity have been addressed and answered.
She's amazing! Thank you, Laurel!
Emily is such a ray of sunshine to say the least. I love her so much! Keen for Season 4!

Crying is a weakness in this fandom. Laurel was trashesdor crying and mourning.
