This was my first bike in 1988. I jetted it, popped on a 4 into one jardine I think exhaust and loved it My best friend crashed it but I fixed it back up and rode it another three years. I just loved it.
persimmons red I had one new purchased for $2769 from Performance Cycle Shrewsbury Ma. I believe the man's name was Phil Harter. my two older brothers all bought bikes that day as well. My brother Mike bought the 79 SR 650 the same color as yours, I bought 79 SR 650 Persimmons Red, and my oldest brother Mark bought the 79 ltd 1000 black if memory serves me right ...it was a fun day. I was the young buck and I had to have the Kerker and K&N's The MC never ran great after that but it sounded badass. That was the beginning of a long ride....1979 till now
Thanks for sharing, it sounds like a great memory. Mine sounds the same with the Kerker, 30mph sounds like you're going a 100. This bike to me has always been priceless for many reasons and it certainly fueled my motorcycle addiction.
Awesome re-find. Keep it alive. I have a '76 RD400 that was original and I did upgrade it with parts that I couldn't afford when I had my old RD in the 70's. I do still have all the stock parts but, also never going to sell it so not worried about resale value. Sounds like you need to pass this on to your kid if you have one.
I was amazed to see this. The SR650 is my all time favorite bike. Even outpacing my Kaw 1000. Unfortunately it lost out to my nassau blue Corvettre and was sold years ago.
I got that same bike in 95 from the original owner with 11.000 miles on it. I paid $650 . I just got the 22 z650 sr in emerald green and gold wheels. Don't let that bike go, you'll regret it like I do.
Very cool story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Ride safe and enjoy.
In the UK we were of the understanding that SR stood for ‘Street Racer’ We had the purple one as well plus a light metallic blue

What an amazing story and memories. So glad that you were able to get the bike back but the paperwork itself has a great sentimental history.
Yes it does. It’s always a great story to tell. I’m glad I finally documented it on video! Thanks for watching

Absolutely this bike is never going anywhere. I would like to go through it again and fix it up 100% when I have more time and money .
Damn that bike is beautiful. I love when bikes / cars are cared for this much over the years.
Thank you , I’m thrilled to have it still in this condition. It’s something I’ll be keeping forever.
