Hello Eric, people are the same everywhere - there is always a mix of mostly decent folk, with the occasional loudmouth, braggart and troll thrown in to cause some upset and chaos. As a 17 year old in Australia in the very early 1980's, I purchased a very secondhand 1969 Holden with a 253 CID V8 that some absolute wizard had put together. After I replaced the 2 barrel stromberg with a 500 Holley, it turned the power even more! People either loved or hated these little V8s based on little more than someone else's opinion. Here is a variable between crankshaft hp and track. Suspension flex, sprung weight, torque converter actuation. Streetcar drive train Dirtcar hookup Suspension flex Dragcar Suspension flex These variables matter. Do you suppose each set might benefit from carburetor vs street injection and strip induction and cam timing. David V has racing experience building And not everybody could dyno motors back in the 70-80's. Those days particularly circle track are where the myths come from. Now, every other builder has dyno or access to one. Just my 2 cents worth
Carb Vs EFI , I like the Carb decision , too many variables with EFI......I'm hoping Mike Jones sends in a cam, or two. LSHR76370 with 1.7 rockers is a power house beast of a cam. I see Chris Struab(sp) responded in the Comments .
I want to send one in but not because I think I’m great….. but because I have one camshaft that’s not in an engine and I *think* it will do ok. So can I send it in even if I don’t think I’m great?
With a turbo on a 706/862 head 4.8/5.3/5.7...it's a pretty good cam, especially for the money. You can stick it in with a simple 1218 spring swap, doesn't require any trick valvetrain mods, spools reasonably well, makes decent peak power, has a nice lope, doesn't valve float, doesn't drop valves, acceptable driveability and fuel economy. Its not the most trick, fancy, cutting edge cam but, for $100-200 plus $150-200 springs it just works, especially with a GT45, VS7875, S475/S480. Certainly capable of more power than most people can really use or put down, definitely on the street and using pump fuel in a throwaway small bore junkyard LS.
Admire you for doing this and the concept. I agree with you (I hope I’m wrong) I doubt you will see many cams only because some will hate that they are not in control of the test and may feel there is more to lose than gain. Good luck.

Very interesting Eric, I’m one of your fan

This will be interesting. Id love to enter but im in Australia, it would cost me AU$1500 or so to grind a cam and return ship it !
Same. Be good to submit a cam selected using 2024 technology v 1980's rules of thumb.
If you want why not tell Eric the specs and he will have it grind it for you in America so you don't have to do long shipping other than shipping back over course but I don't know how to make it easier or have you been involved you would have to talk to Eric about that 1
Call a USA cam grinder to grind the cam you want and ship it.

Bet an American flying back will bring it over for you

Here is a variable between crankshaft hp and track.
Suspension flex, sprung weight, torque converter actuation.
Streetcar drive train
Dirtcar hookup Suspension flex
Dragcar Suspension flex
These variables matter. Do you suppose each set might benefit from carburetor vs street injection and strip induction and cam timing.

And not everybody could dyno motors back in the 70-80's.
Those days particularly circle track are where the myths come from.
Now, every other builder has dyno or access to one.
Just my 2 cents worth
It would be awesome to have Pete Harrell compete
Powell Cams
Carb Vs EFI , I like the Carb decision , too many variables with EFI......I'm hoping Mike Jones sends in a cam, or two. LSHR76370 with 1.7 rockers is a power house beast of a cam. I see Chris Struab(sp) responded in the Comments .
I want to send one in but not because I think I’m great….. but because I have one camshaft that’s not in an engine and I *think* it will do ok. So can I send it in even if I don’t think I’m great?
Yes. $100 for buy in ensures it’s entered. Right now you might have to beat one cam.
I think that would be awesome if you have the money to spare. Always interesting to see where you stand.
@@WeingartnerRacing thanks man I will in fact do this! This is fun! Such a cool idea! It would be great if some real cam guys actually partake 🙏
Ain't nobody beatin my sloppy stage 2!
🤣
Admire you for doing this and the concept. I agree with you (I hope I’m wrong) I doubt you will see many cams only because some will hate that they are not in control of the test and may feel there is more to lose than gain. Good luck.
I fuckin' love it! THANKS ERIC!
Awesome challenge to follow! Can’t wait to compare my best guess on specs to the winner!
I hope some people step up and take the challenge.
I'm no expert. That's why I try to watch vids and read to try and learn more. I did see a video that said tighter lsa helped low end torque but I'm not sure yet if that's valid....that's why I keep researching and trying to learn while I'm slowly building my project
