    @ratherbeboating10 25 дней назад +5

I had jones spec out the cam for my 388. Seemingly nice grind, nothing crazy. Told him what I wanted to do then asked if I was being realistic. He recommended something a little more tame for the street. Engine isn't finished yet but I gave him every data point he asked for. Great to deal with and got me all the ancillary parts too.
Love the video Eric as always. I remember a while back reading about a few grinders in a contest with Vizard and in the end no runs were made as the grinds were all nearly identical. I suspect those who are truly good will end up splitting hairs. It's the alleged experts who'll be all over the map...

I'm no camshaft expert by any means but I'm thinking tighter LSA is more important on heads like OEM cast iron SBF. Wider LSA in my mind like 112 is better for more efficient aluminum heads. By no means a LS boy here, SBF all the way but I'd hazard a guess for 408 LS at 8.6 dynamic on pump gas, 250@.050 intake 256@ .050 exhaust .650 lift at the valve, 112 LSA. You're welcome to tear my comment apart viewers 😊

I can budget for one. I will probably have it ground by Cam Motion or Jones. Most likely will be a 8660 core, three bolt. I can probably get this going in the next week. I have no problem with the timing points being shown, and I will give what I think will be a good installed centerline. I will base the cam on your provided engine specs, as well as your stated 4000 to 7000 rpm test range. If I have a question on any parameters I will ask you. I want to be clear and agree on the parameters.

@@v8packardI do not have a horse in the race because I am just a hobbyist without the deep pockets to do this. I ran through some engine modeling and have a fairly similar LSA point. Hello Eric, people are the same everywhere - there is always a mix of mostly decent folk, with the occasional loudmouth, braggart and troll thrown in to cause some upset and chaos. As a 17 year old in Australia in the very early 1980's, I purchased a very secondhand 1969 Holden with a 253 CID V8 that some absolute wizard had put together. After I replaced the 2 barrel stromberg with a 500 Holley, it turned the power even more! People either loved or hated these little V8s based on little more than someone else's opinion. I was always happy to change someone's mind by taking them for a run, or have a little race (conducted on a closed road with all safety precautions etc....of course). Excuses become a very important fallback position when presented with evidence - one guy who I beat five times in a row because; I obviously jumped the start, he spun off the start, the starter allowed me to cheat, thought he saw a kangaroo and backed off, finally concluded that his car needed a better tune and we would run again (he never showed for rerun number 6).
I suspect that a couple of fair-minded people might accept your challenge, however I look forward to the excuse-making troll who proclaims you "didn't do it right." I hope he gets locked out of his Dad's pornhub account.

@@jimwilson4639I what Eric is dealing with is the GM LS platform is 2 decades and some years old. You got guys like me that have already and still grudge race LS motors that means if my car is a 2000 Z28. People like me already know an been through every possible trick , performance product the world has to offer I ran 80s 5.8s in a full weight sbe Gen 3 Th400 4k stall small tire with a plate kit way bk years ago of course people like me are gonna have some input I was 20 years old then and now I'm way faster than that . Then you have the mid way through crowed that LS also put deep memorys in their minds and they may still race idn. But Richard Holder already did 1000s of GM LS combo testing. That's another hurdle Eric has to climb over look I think 💬 Eric is Stright up and the fact he is in tune with his subs show me that he's actually better at RUclips than some of these guys that been at it longer than him. Why couse he is the only guy that does RUclips in a non it's bout me im right y'all dumb selfish push his own agenda Way. That's very rare on RUclips.

Howard's may have his lobe designs, but that's just half of it. You also need Harold to tell you which lobes you need, and what LSA you need to grind it on.

I like this idea, more so if you were to use cams with different lobe profiles , not just different valve events.
If you use 2 cam motion cams , I’m pretty sure they will have the same profile, just different valve events.

Thank you for the great videos I have learned a lot and heard a lot people parrot crap they have seen on youtube just as you have called it. I know 0.0 or less about cams. I'm going to rebuild a buick 455 for a 1972 Skylark. I don't know what compression ratio and cam to go with. But I just want a fun engine that will spin to 6,000+ or I may just put a LS in it. I'm 58 and I will figure out. keep up the great work. Please keep calling out all the BS that is the most fun.

Here is a variable between crankshaft hp and track.
Suspension flex, sprung weight, torque converter actuation.
    Streetcar drive train
    Dirtcar hookup Suspension flex
    Dragcar Suspension flex
These variables matter. Do you suppose each set might benefit from carburetor vs street injection and strip induction and cam timing.
David V has racing experience building
And not everybody could dyno motors back in the 70-80's.
Those days particularly circle track are where the myths come from.
Now, every other builder has dyno or access to one.

With a turbo on a 706/862 head 4.8/5.3/5.7...it's a pretty good cam, especially for the money. You can stick it in with a simple 1218 spring swap, doesn't require any trick valvetrain mods, spools reasonably well, makes decent peak power, has a nice lope, doesn't valve float, doesn't drop valves, acceptable driveability and fuel economy. Its not the most trick, fancy, cutting edge cam but, for $100-200 plus $150-200 springs it just works, especially with a GT45, VS7875, S475/S480. Certainly capable of more power than most people can really use or put down, definitely on the street and using pump fuel in a throwaway small bore junkyard LS.
