A BIKER’S GUIDE TO MYANMAR

To enter Myanmar by road, you will need to apply for a visa in advance. The Myanmar Embassy is located in New Delhi, Mumbai & Kolkata and it takes a few days to process your visa. We advise that you process this directly, rather than through an agent.
Documents you need for your Myanmar Visa:
1. Filled Visa form
2. Passport & photocopy
3. Photographs (2 nos.)
4. Bike RC (original)
5. Bike Insurance
6. International Driving License
Additionally, your agent in Myanmar will need to provide you:
1. His license & ID card.
2. Hotel confirmation
3. Plan for each day, when in Myanmar
4. Police Permission for your presence in Myanmar
Your visa will be processed within 1 to 3 days, after you submit the above papers. We applied for the visa at Delhi. The officials are very friendly and extremely cooperative.
Check Posts in India, when crossing the border on bike via Manipur into Myanmar:
1. Manipur-Mao Check Post: Foreigners need to register and get a stamp in their passport
2. Imphal: Tengnoupal Check Post: Need entry for foreigners & Indians
3. Khudengthabi Check Post: Need entry for foreigners & Indians
Based on our ride through Myanmar, here is a list of a few things you will need to keep in mind:
Narrow roads - Be careful of children and local bikes crossing the roads
Right hand drive
Quality of petrol is not great, hence carry Octane Booster to add to your petrol
In Myanmar, they call petrol ‘Diesel Octane 95’
Be prepared to eat heavy and oily food
The people are very sweet, friendly and honest.
