What people who say 'I could do that' is that these iconic and groundbreaking paintings were created long before anyone even thought of creating this kind of art. They are almost exclusively originals for their time. That's what makes them so valuable. For example, if Neil Armstrong painted something on the moon it would be as expensive as these pieces even if it looked like garbage. It goes way beyond artistic skill as it is understood generally. That's part of the art of it.

Yes, everyone here should watch the famous art critic Robert Hughes last great documentary, The Curse of Mona Lisa, as Hughes covers great modern art history, and the cause of the wretched auction world destroying the true worth of great art. The hour and 20-minute documentary used to be available for free in Vimeo videos but it was taken down after being put up originally by the woman that produced it with Hughes. It's really a great art source if information, and well narrated by the late great art critic Robert Hughes. As a technical artist, it's one of my favorite films to show the process of the modern art world auctions and managers as corrupted by money. I recommend it for everyone.

I can’t get behind Jackson Pollock. I have a super huge respect for art as a graphic designer, but I can’t say I understand abstract art like that. Splattering hundreds of layers of paint on a canvas and selling for a price point of hundreds of millions. There just doesn’t seem to be much artistic talent or expression behind that. Now masterful works of art like the ceilings of the 16th Chapel and intricate oil paintings, speak to me on a much higher level.

There was a painting that I got to hold in the early 1980s. After baseball practice one of my parents friends would babysit me. I was only 6yrs old at the time. He had a couple of paintings sitting in the corner and since my mother painted, I asked if I could look at them. The man said yes. I grew up in Baton Rouge Louisiana and out of respect, I wont say his name nor where he lived. Just know that he lived in south Baton Rouge. I asked him about this one old painting, i wanted to know how old it was. He just answered older than me and him put together. Lol. Well my mother got there to pick me up and I told her about the painting akd she said, son painting has been around since the cavemen and is still going on today, so for him to have an old painting is not unusual. Well years later he passed away and the pai ting was sould for a few thousand dollars. I called me mom and told her that painting was sold for a pretty goos amount of money.. What was sickening about this, i asked him how much was that painting and the other 2 were worth? He told me that he didnt know but if someone offered him a thousand dollars, they could have them. Lol. Well this painting that I liked so much. That painting ended up selling a few times and the last time it sold, it went over $400,000,000 dollars. It was a freaking Leonardo Davinci. Someone from Dubai bought that painting. So it went a tad higher than the #1 spot on this list.
So I am not sure if this list was done before or after this painting was sold. I wished my mother was alive to see and hear how much that painting that i like so much went for.

I think Pablo Picasso is probably the biggest artist of all time,i don’t know if anybody has ever said it but,I believe he’s the most famous do to overall sales and fame, most of his works are popular, not just one single painting that’s the best,I mean overall, that matters more in my opinion,he’s not a one hit wonder,he made nothing but masterpieces in most paintings, meaning most times he had a new canvas,it was a masterpiece,I’ve always reached for that in my work, make them all equally good,I used to hate him because people called me Pablo Picasso lol then as I got older I started to realize that we had more than a name in common, funny enough the older I’ve gotten the more my work looks like his work and has made me realize that I was wrong,he didn’t get worse as he got older,he became a master,a genius at his prime,my work has reversed back to simplicity with a strong story,i some how went trough he’s journey of fine art to abstract genius, challenging myself to make tricky difficult but interesting paintings to read,I didn’t study his work till I understood his journey, meaning I’ve never copied him but damn it,I can’t deny the resemblance and i don’t mind it,I think he would be proud because you can tell I’m not a copy cat,to me that’s important in an artist,I didn’t need anyone to tell me I had reached mastery, the minute I started painting perfect painting after perfect painting like it was nothing,I realized I had reached a new level.
