The wyvern/dragon thing is so silly. We're playing a game where the naked raptors have mohawks and most dinosaurs can bite with a giant metal bit in their mouths.
I really really like how she made sure that the model feels heavy, as if its an actual animal having to put so much effort into its movements! It makes them look so so real! My only issue with the gliding is how the wings stay still while spread out, I feel like one or 2 little flaps of them would make it look sooo much better.
The wyvern/dragon discourse is always kinda funny to me because in my language there is only one word for dragon "dreki". Imo it's actually really handy in Ark that the vanilla ones are called wyverns and Kami calls her modded ones dragons, so when I'm playing with friends we know which creature we are talking about without going into details👌This animation overhaul is just amazing! I dont get the people who have to be petty about what the dragons are called. Wyvern is just a classification of dragon like ape is a classification of monkey. Calling these dragons and gorillas monkies is not wrong in any way. But that also only comes from our modern internet perception of dragons. So many beasts from snaillike to horselike are dragons. HTTYD calls everything a dragon and it has every common dragon bodyplan you can think of. Just chill people its not that deep.
@@p3wp3wCthulhuand a wyvern is a dragon with two wings and two legs therefore just as we can cal humans and monkeys primates we can call dragons and wyverns dragons
i feel like this was being recorded before the mod drops another update where zaldrir dragon now has age-dependent bone transform and 10% of wild dragons sleeping when landing
Yes you're right, if I remember correctly once I finished recording this and begun editing, Kami made the announcement about the bone deformations It's ok though, this video was all about the animation changes, and I'll be able to go over more of the feature changes in the next one ^^
Definitely a few things that I like better from the old animation. The Bite and fire breathing animations (without the clipping of course) *feel* better IMO because there's whole body movement to it; almost a lunge forwards that feels sharper. The new bite animation in particular is an improvement on the movement of the neck's musculature, but otherwise lacks a lot of the general physiological movement of the old bite that utilized much of the body. Similarly, the fire-breathing animation fixes the clipping but removes the powerful head/body movement that I imagine dragons would utilize in an actual breath attack. The glide animation is an absolute improvement; having the wind effect the wing membranes makes such a huge difference. The dive animation needs to combine that aspect with the old one IMO - I much preferred the wings tucking into the body as they retracted during the dive (similarly to how birds do IRL); now they seem to slide in horizontally, and it doesn't feel quite as polished, despite the improvements on the weighting and wing membranes themselves. Pretty much everything else is really good though - as you mentioned the hover animation does feel a little to float-y but the previous one was almost to bouncy too; needs to be somewhere in between.
LOVE how the wing-leather is billowing, now. Looks great. I personally MUCH prefer the old ground idle, though. The neck arch looks really uncomfortable and awkward in the new animation. The new walk/run is pretty neat. The fire breath on the ground doesn't involve the rest of the body anymore, so even though the gums are exposed (which is cool) I do wish there was more of a full-body exhale like the old one. Doesn't seem as dramatic or intimidating now, esp. being that the bite & breath now aim too high for most opponents. The wing and tail attacks are COOL. Is the landing animation working yet? And is it me, or are the wings a little larger? They don't look as short compared to the body but I'm not sure if that's just down to which tier of dragon this is! The new grab looks great!
Wyverns are a continuation of dragon folklore. Thus a dragon, in the same way that a lindwyrm or amphitere are versions of dragons. Not a classical European dragon, but still absolutely a dragon. I dont care if DnD or the Witcher says otherwise, those are some iterations that separate the two, but those iterations dont dictate the definition as a whole. Historically/culturally a wyvern is just a variety of dragon.
Wow, what really impresses me is that most people would have said the mod was done and beautiful, but Kami just kept pushing to make it better anyway. It was really good of you to cover all of her hard work. While I like the wyvern/dragon distinction for a DND game or other instance of modern world building, actual human mythology does not have have the hard delineations we prefer today. Many mythical dragons had the wyvern body plan but were not called wyverns because the distinction is something we codified in the modern era for modern world building. So to everyone who thought the distinction was worth a nasty comment in the last video, I say this kindly: FUCK OFF and lie down in traffic.
I have one very minor thing to point out, when it is walking/running on the ground the shoulders clip into the neck. Very minor detail and im not sure how to work around that but something for the creator to play with if she has time.
They're looking amazing! But I think if they were skins for the wyverns instead of a mod, it would be much better. Because then he could create new models like Vhagar, Vermithor, Caraxes from House of the Dragon and players could choose which skin to put on their wyvern and play on any server!
This is super cool. Only thing i still do not like is the bite, not as aggressive. And another one of my opinions, for fire breath, fire looks nice but movement of dragon upon firebreathing not as great. Everything else perfect. If this releases on official i will finally give ark another chance.
Someone explained to me that dragons have 4 legs and wyverns have 2 so that's just how I look at it lol. This is so good tho, great video and Kami did lovely as usual.
Wyverns don't breath fire while dragons do. I also like to look at it from a realistic point of view. If dragons were real, they wouldn't have 4 legs and 2 wings as no animal ever has.
Four legged dragons come primarily from D&D. In that setting all the "true dragons" have 4 legs. Wyverns have 2 legs and are distant animalistic cousins while true dragons are extremely intelligent creatures capable of speech and spellcasting.
Id love to aee what other dragons you can model after. Saphira from the eragon series, draco from dragonheart.... Even others from game of thrones like caraxes, meleys and vermithor. Or even vhaegar. How cool would that be?!?
Wait someone actually got butt hurt about a mod 😂 some people need to get a grip. Anyways love your work and love how you highlight mods makes it so easy for me to decide if I want the mod or not. Keep it up 😊
When I saw the video, I clicked with a single thought in mind: Old Valyria. Sorry, it was stronger than me, I swore I would see something similar to A Song of Ice and Fire universe 😅
The distinction between Wyvern and Dragon is only really relevant when you're trying to include both in a setting and you need them to be distinct. I personally like it when they're treated as unique species, but then, I am a fan of ecosystems and the many variatons of evolution.
How I usually tell the difference between dragons and wyverns is that dragons usually breath fire. Meanwhile wyverns are venomous or can shoot some sort of acid instead of fire.
When Asa's Aberration Released, i Uninstalled AsA bcs i really didnt liked the map, Now. Thanks To This Mod, And you, i am Reinstalling it, Thank you ❤
At this point i'd love for capcom to bring a new elder dragon to MH but its actually a flying wyvern, this and Akantor/Ukanlos being wyverns would be hilarious Also this mod was awsome then but damn is it absolutly gorgeous now
I prefer the old biting animation, the new one felt a bit too short and soft. Everything else new looks amazing. PS: indeed, the idle hovering animation might benefit from slightly faster wing flap.
Okay Im be real in regards to the whole "wyver dragon" thing. It does not matter. A dragon can literally be anything, a cursed human, a natural animal, an devine godlike being, a pet etc... It doesnt matter how many limbs it has, breath weapon or not, if it flies or swims there still dragons. And yes a wyvern can technically be a type of dragon, but frankly the best thing to do is to just look at what they are in their respective settings, by the creators of the settings. For example in Game of Thrones Martin calls his 4 limbed dragons "dragons" cause thats what they are, hell many forget that wyverns do exist in that settting too but they have alot of difrences with dragons. Only reason they have 4 limbs is because of the setting being more grounded and realistic. In Monster Hunter things like Rathalos are called wyverns while stuff like Safi Jiva are elder dragons, here the notable difrence is the 4 limbs to 6 limbs but theres more thing again that make em stand out largely in their ecology and biology. So yeah thats my two cents on that. Anyhow the new animations look awesome, fantastic work by Kami
I feel with the hovering animation it is a bit too slow it if dropped in height slightly during it then raised back up it would make more sense but the body is very central.
I love your videos you really appreciate all aspects of the creatures you do overviews about. Also the dragons we often see with four legs and wings is widely seen in European culture not all cultures. Also if people can now consider gender to be a man made construct then so is the term dragon.
It's all the same model but a different shade of colors? I hope that's not the case. Is she working on various different variants? The part of unique is different looks..
When it comes to the wyvern and dragon debate. I have my own opinion/dragon headcanon lol. Dragons and wyverns are relatives but not apart of the same genus. Wyverns don't have any special element ability besides being venomous and walk like modern birds with their back legs and wings tucked to the side. While dragons have a subspecies of the same genus where it takes more akin to wyverns but they walk on their wings; like a monstrous nightmare!
The front is cool but the back is absurdly disproportionate. It looks like two types of dragons that have been glued together, you can't see it from above, but from below and to the side it's obvious. But it's cool, I can pack more, but if I leave it like that I'll still use it
Can't wait til these get an ai attack for the breath weapon. Tried an army of dragon's against the manticore before I realized they can't use the the breath weapon on their own. It didn't go well...
One thing that bothers me of this mod is the flyinng animations. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing, but... Flying animals glide at top speed not at lower speeds. So IMO the animations should be inverted. The "slow" flying should be the wing flapping and the "fast" flight should be the gliding
The wyvern/dragon thing is so silly. We're playing a game where the naked raptors have mohawks and most dinosaurs can bite with a giant metal bit in their mouths.

You are right that Wyverns, Wyrms, Hydras, Drakes etc are all species of dragons but apes, monkeys and humans are all primates, and not all monkeys.
@p3wp3wCthulhu i shall guide you to Clint's reptiles video on explaining why we are in fact monkey.
@@DracoJ I love Clint's Reptiles! But we are in fact fish.
@@p3wp3wCthulhu and similar to bagels!
@@p3wp3wCthulhuand a wyvern is a dragon with two wings and two legs therefore just as we can cal humans and monkeys primates we can call dragons and wyverns dragons
It's going to be very interesting all the new things that she adds to his mod over time, she's on the right track. 👍🏽
i feel like this was being recorded before the mod drops another update where zaldrir dragon now has age-dependent bone transform and 10% of wild dragons sleeping when landing
It defo was. These updates are nice but Kami works so quick they aren’t relevant for more than a day or so at best IF THAT lol
@@spicypineapple2778 crazy
Yes you're right, if I remember correctly once I finished recording this and begun editing, Kami made the announcement about the bone deformations
It's ok though, this video was all about the animation changes, and I'll be able to go over more of the feature changes in the next one ^^
This goes so hard wth I didn't even know custom animations were a thing in Ark mods.
I can’t wait! I saw an image of vheagar. IM BEGGING TO TIDE VHEAGAR!
This work in progress is literally better then any flying creature the devs have added themselves.
Thx for the updated video!!!
Thanks for watching, hope it helped :D
they are so obviously GOT dragons and i would love it if that drogon roar from season 7 was used from the Spoils of war episode
would be so epic
How do you increase their tier from juve to young, and so on?
Best
Dragon
Mod
EVER
5:33 the walking animation totally lets me feel like a hobbit that has to run away.
QUICK!!
I hope in the future we there's more Horn/crest variations
This is super cool. Only thing i still do not like is the bite, not as aggressive. And another one of my opinions, for fire breath, fire looks nice but movement of dragon upon firebreathing not as great. Everything else perfect. If this releases on official i will finally give ark another chance.
Wyvrens are a alt species of dragons just like how lions and tigers are pretty much all cats (felines) just like our domesticated cats
Nice I love dragons, Atlas game and there on the server gaming Evolved server built the Dragon Stone castle.
This Dragon is a modern model without a stomach. But the rest looks really cool.
Id love to aee what other dragons you can model after. Saphira from the eragon series, draco from dragonheart.... Even others from game of thrones like caraxes, meleys and vermithor. Or even vhaegar. How cool would that be?!?
I’m OBSESSED
Wait someone actually got butt hurt about a mod 😂 some people need to get a grip.
Anyways love your work and love how you highlight mods makes it so easy for me to decide if I want the mod or not.
Keep it up 😊
I hope we're getting different types of dragons. i like syrax. i mean different forms like more syrax one or more Vhagar
Wow this looks amazing, the dragons remind me of GoT - only 1min in so if this is mentioned my bad ahahaha
Looks good. Legs feel like should be thicker seem skinny leged for its boday
5:08 I prefer the arms of the older one since they are more muscular and beefy but I like the new ones webbing
When I saw the video, I clicked with a single thought in mind: Old Valyria. Sorry, it was stronger than me, I swore I would see something similar to A Song of Ice and Fire universe 😅
Also, another great revisit highlight video! 🎉 cheers
I wish this was in Official such an awesome mod
When Asa's Aberration Released, i Uninstalled AsA bcs i really didnt liked the map, Now. Thanks To This Mod, And you, i am Reinstalling it, Thank you ❤
At this point i'd love for capcom to bring a new elder dragon to MH but its actually a flying wyvern, this and Akantor/Ukanlos being wyverns would be hilarious
Also this mod was awsome then but damn is it absolutly gorgeous now
So just to clarify this adds a new creature and not necessarily removes/replaces the wyverns in vanilla?
woo!!! big flying reptiles!!!
I prefer the old biting animation, the new one felt a bit too short and soft. Everything else new looks amazing. PS: indeed, the idle hovering animation might benefit from slightly faster wing flap.
can these guys be used in the manticore fight and are they breedable
I consider Wyverns dragons, but they're just "lesser" dragons compared to 4 legged ones. I think 4 legged dragons are the cutest lol.
I've been away from Ark for awhile, but is that model from the mod or is that how they look in ASA? I've only played ASE.
You, who is reading this comment. I just wanted you to know you're awesome, and you will always be awesome.
FOR THE EPIC GLORY OF THE DARKEDGE CLAN!!!
so glad to see rebecca isn't a ase purist
This mod looks better then the Flamestalker & Inferno in Day of Dragons. same with animations.
I don't know how, but my dragon hv the glow from Aberration, Aberrat Zaldrir Dragon. Nice!!
But it's cool, I can pack more, but if I leave it like that I'll still use it
I think the wings should be bigger or the body smaller just to make it more realistic
I don’t know about any of you all but I believe the aberrant stripes should exist on the dragons and have there own color region
For the love of God is this coming to console?!?!? I would legitimately pay for this
Do the dragons flap their wings mode when not gliding or sprinting?
Can't wait til these get an ai attack for the breath weapon. Tried an army of dragon's against the manticore before I realized they can't use the the breath weapon on their own. It didn't go well...
One thing that bothers me of this mod is the flyinng animations. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing, but... Flying animals glide at top speed not at lower speeds. So IMO the animations should be inverted. The "slow" flying should be the wing flapping and the "fast" flight should be the gliding
Hello Darkedge I'm coming at you because I would like to know how to disable the auto flight on Xbox controller if it is possible of course 🙏
In game of thrones the dragons are real dragons as it’s built into their lore. They’re mythical creatures that were bred from fire wyrms and wyverns.
After taming they don’t breathe fire on there on u have to do it manually
I saw Vermithor👀
