  • In today's video we are touring Horiteien in Tsuwano, Shimane prefecture, Japan. This house dates back to 1785, and was built by the 15th generation of the Hori family; Hiro Toujyuro.
The Hori family earned their wealth from copper. The 15th generation's luck in finding a new source of copper as well as his business acumen allowed the family to live in fine style. Mr. Hori became known as the copper king by the people in the region.
Mr. Hori also used his wealth to pursue other business and philanthropic work such as helping to build a hospital and a paper company.
The grounds also contain a Meiji era tea house built in a traditional style for guests. The sight in the fall is amazing. This sight had also been declared a scenic point of interest by the government.
