By themselves they sound okay, but I find the expressiveness and dynamics of the concert grand to be limited. The sound is too boomy in the lower register and not articulate enough. When I pound on the keys, it gets a bit brighter and there I'd this electro piano "tine" sound. I'm used to the Steinway D samples in my Kurzweil K2600RS. That thing really plays like a piano.
I've sprung for the Montage 8 and am hoping the pianos in that are much better. It shouldn't be too hard to beat 1990s technology.

This rack unit is over 10 years old you know

In reality they could've built this unit in the late 90's honestly. I dont think it's advanced far beyond that

@@colelewis9940 Cole Lewis I find that musical instrument tech is old even when newly released. My Korg Kronos is based on 20 year old processor design, too. Now my Kurzweil K2600RS was pretty advanced for 1995, given it has 128MB of RAM, more than my graphics editing PC at the time.
But for some reason, the processing power in musical instruments of most makers lags way behind. I also have a Roland Integra-7 that is using samples from the 80s and sounds a lot like my old CM-64.
Something truly advanced would be nice.

@@basspig I think guitar processors like the axe fx could be called advanced. The kronos is I would say 15 years old in design. I feel like synth design hasnt changed as much comparatively because people are happy with the sounds already for the most part.

@@colelewis9940 Having owned both the Yamaha Montage and the Kronos, I can say that I prefer the synthy sounds of the Montage much better. They are more futuristic and complex long period sounds that evolve over time and have many complex sounds mixed together in varying ratios. I cannot seem to create such sophisticated sounds with Kronos. It sounds like 70s/80s synths (excepting the Yamaha CS80, which I wish it could emulate). The Kronos is good with acoustic instruments through, especially piano and drums. It simply has the most realistic acoustic piano sound of any electronic instrument I've tried out. I like the way the effects system works and no apparent limits to number of effects, as well as ease of use. But I wish it could do realistic acoustic guitars like Montage and those spacey, complex sounds like some of the patches on Montage.
