Snk and Capcom have never compromised the animation in their games. (Using sprites in other games is a different story *cough* capcom) I wish other fighting games put as much thought into their animations as SNK and Capcom.

I think "The Last Blade" series has one of the best Stories in the History of Fighting Games, that's very Rare these Days. Awesome Lore Video, this is probably the Best one yet.
I do love how people keep saying "both" Last Blade games. Am I the only one who remembers the existence of this little device called the Neo-Geo Pocket? (and yes the NGP Last Blade game is, IIRC, on the Switch as well. It's called Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny).
Also, the aftermath of the Last Blade 2 story, that you forgot to include. With Yuki and Shigen confirmed died, Zantetsu also died off-screen (somewhere around Last Blade 2). Despite his death, his grandson, Santa Kisaragi, will carry the legacy of Kisaragi clan.
I used to think so too until I learned about Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage for PS1. It takes place about 10-15 years after the main series and almost all the characters are new. So I would say that is the "true" Garou of Samsho.
I have always loved SNK lore they are probably the best fighting game story tellers and all the world building that each game has is simply amazing. Great job as per usual Shoryu
I never realized this but Moriya, Iori, Genjuro, Vice, Fiona, Vanessa, Kazuki ect...SNK has a history of making some badazz red headed characters lol. I know it's random, but that's the first thing I thought when I saw this video and Moriya. That being said, this was a great video. I'm surprised KOF let this story die since they were just beginning laying out the lore. Perhaps with more videos like this they will decide to one day bring it back? Thanks Shoryu!
There’s one other Last Blade game in the series of note, Beyond the Destiny for the NeoGeo Pocket Color, basically a remixed kinda variant of the main 2 games
I think SNK wants to revive Fatal Fury, and Last Blade. It all depends on the success of KOF XV, because they really need to implement Rollback netcode in their new KOF XV. Samsho 7 is an atrocity online.

Also I am pretty sure the producer for Guilty Gear worked on both of this and a lot of the last of the samurai showdown games and it shows you can see Sol and Ky in Moriya and Kaede.
In my opinion this game and the sequel are SNK's best games in terms of over all presentation, budget, and quality. I think it's better then Garou Mark Of The Wolves.
Also a fun fact that the dev's got wrong historically. Shinsengumi rarely "Fired' anyone. Their way was a strict code of bushido based on honour. If shikyo didn't run away on his own he'd probably have been forced to commit seppuku which was the Shinsengumi's custom. So I figure they sent Kojiro and Washizuka to assassinate him. Cos that's what they did with other people who ran off. Even the one time they did let some leave peacefully, they ended up having to assassinate them in the streets of Kyoto. They were very very very strict.
I've played hours after hours with the SNK games in the 90's and yet I've known The Last Blade only six months ago, playing at the mobile game "SNK Allstar". It's a pity, because I like so much the story, the characters and the graphics of these two games.

Well.. this is how much I love this series, and this video as well, that I don't want to stop hearing about this. This series needs a proper reboot, like please... this will already make my year if this is executed right - very slept on series.
This is one of my favorite games from SNK. I fell in love with the beautiful sprite art and detailed backgrounds, as well as the great soundtrack and the amazing characters. The one thing I never really knew about was the story. Thank you for making these videos for us. These games all had such great stories it was just so hard to figure out what they were all about, especially back in the 90s when all we had were the arcade games.
If The Last Blade gets a live action movie adaption, it should be done by the team who brought us Rurouni Kenshin movies series. Off course, it deserves anime treatment as well.
The end of the story of LB2 is so sad. Yuki sacrificed herself as a Witch to seal the gate.She realized who she really is when she sees the shine of the Gouyu on her neck.The story is about love,hate and fate.Everyone is connected because of the event of the Gate. Moriya loves Yuki but he never says a word about it. At the end of the story of LB1,Yuki and Moriya met on the bridge but they just passed by without saying anything.There are only regrets left in Moriya's lonely heart.

To be honest this is one of the first weapon base 2D games I ever played. also one of the first fighting game just not the first fighting game I played online and I played on keyboard as Morya lol.
This is a game that I completely missed when it was out back in the late nineties. I only learned about it when I went out and bought SNK games for my dream cast back in the early 2000's. During that time I also learned about garou mark of the wolves and I bought it too. Last blade, garou and samurai showdown could probably be considered the greatest classics for SNK fighting games and maybe even better than some of the other games outside SNK.
There are some characters who barely got any spotlight though. Like Amano and Lee. While Washizuka, Juzoh, and Zantetsu seemed like background characters most of the time.
Wow, hard to believe majority of us never heard of this game as the spiritual successor to Samurai Showdown. Its a pretty game and an engaging storyline that would work well as a nice little anime series. It'd be nice if they bring a third episode but I guess its okay with the way it is now. Good video - I enjoyed it.

I was asking for this one for awhile thanks Interesting as a kid I always thought that Kaede and the spirit of the dragon was two different people sharing the same body like Yugi and Yami from Yu-gi-oh. And last I used to think that Kagami's sword was the sword of secret treasure protected by Kusanagi's in KoF because of his confusing ending. And I don't think Setsuna died in his battle with Yuki. I think Yuki use her pendent to seal him away and close the gate but she failed in sealing Setsuna away, because he was way to powerful for her but that's just my opinion anyway. this game have to much loose ends and needs a sequel but that being said another amazing job I must contribute to your patreon on day for this, and keep those SNK's game Lore coming.

The Last Blade is sooo damn good. I wish they would make #3 or just reboot the Franchise. I had to get a Japanese import of both the games on my PS2 just to say I have a physical copy of the first game since I already had a physical copy of The Last Blade 2 for PS4.

They should give this series the samsho treatment. People life fast fighting games and I wouldn’t say this is fast but it’s more enjoyable than samsho to me and my cousins. I used to play the game as a kid but since it came out on switch we’ve been having a lot of fun with the first game
I loved the Last Blade series it's story was well thought and thanks for the video for clarifying things in the lore plus I remember playing LB2 with my friends at the arcade and it was a great time and the gameplay of the serues was really fun to play around with the characters and music are also well designed

Is Akari the most powerful being on earth? Does that mean if Akari's ending is considered canon then Kaede and others don't possess the actual powers of gods?

This game more accessible than Shamso and very fast paced. I was surprised when playing this on PS1 and dethroned Alpha 3 as my favorite 2D game

I know nothing of the story but I know that the games Sprite art is absolutely beautiful.

I have this game on the neo geo pocket color, and my favourite part of the game is the baseball mini game with Akari and Juzoh lol.

She was given the power of all four gods in her ending of Last Blade 1. While no one else other than Koryu got them all four.
Is Akari the most powerful being on earth? Does that mean if Akari's ending is considered canon then Kaede and others don't possess the actual powers of gods?

Alright. I still believe that Akari has hidden potential to control all four gods powers. I mean she can summon demons from Makai ( the other world / Hell ).
At least hibiki is coming to samsho soon . Which can give the franchise some reconization .
I remember when you defeating the last boss you will be asked to visit their website.. Maybe it's a reward.. But the site is down
And mushashi may be the weakest sub-boss in snk games lol
