I cannot believe one of the goods wasn’t THE CAST MEMBERS! I have such incredible interactions with cast members EVERY SINGLE TIME I ride this. They ham up the horror and camp, they give one liners as the doors close, some of them even slap their hands on the window and drag them down or do maniacal laughter…I mean that’s half the experience for me! They’re part of the world! They’re such an integral part of the story telling and world building, I love them all
the only time i've ever ridden it i was given the task of bringing the little number thing they use to see how long the wait time is to the cast member doing boarding. i can't remember the specifics of the interaction, but i remember it being so fun. and then afterwards i hung out in the gift shop for a REALLY long time, and one of the cast members there gave me a pin for getting his trivia question right (name all the movies based on a disney theme park ride). i will never ride ToT again because it scares me, but i wish i could because i love the vibes and the cast members so much!! (it's also my favorite on-ride photo of me of all time)
Former Tower of Terror cast member of the WDW attraction, saddest fact, WDW Tower of Terror had the record for the largest elevator system, however it was not originally the record holder; it obtained this record on 9/11/2001. :(
This podcast is ALWAYS a home run. THIS episode however, had me losing my MINNNDDDDDD laughing. I'm at work with my earbuds in, just crying with laughter at the audio of kids crying without moving their mouths and Garret's AI "Ryan Bergara" moment 💀💀💀😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
They better pass this on the smart phone test. No ride better exemplifies the entertaining you on “atmosphere” alone than the Tower of Terror. Standing in the lush overgrowth, with the old time music drifting softly through the distance, you feel like you’re standing in the overlap of two words: the first being the Hollywood Tower Hotel in its prime. You almost half expect to see a movie star walking along the path ahead toward the “tennis courts”. The other is the hotel in the present day. Standing in the shadow of a looming, sinister ruin, it feels haunted. It feels like you’re somewhere you’re not supposed to be. That queue is a work of art.
Tower of Terror had always been one of my absolute favorites. When Guardians opened my exact thoughts were at least it's on the West Coast. When I first rode Guardians I was like ok that was amazing Tower of Terror seems so dated now. A few months later I was in Tower again and the second I entered the queue, I immediately regretted even having that single negative thought. I hope Tower of Terror forgives me, because I will never forgive myself. Tower is a true 10/10. If it ever gets rumored to close, I'm chaining myself out there next to Ryan.
I absolutely love this ride and as someone with ADHD Garrett is my spirit animal. Would love a bonus mini episode with his experience of riding extraterrorestrial
Fun fact: For the mahjong game in the lobby, Disney brought in two professional mahjong players, had them start a game, abandoned it midway through, and covered it in cobwebs.
Garrett randomly liked one of my roller coaster videos on Insta ... it really made my day. I've been on the Tower of Terror rides in: Disneyland Paris, Tokyo DisneySea, Hollywood Studios, and California Adventure. The pre-show for the one in Japan is really cool. Controversial opinion ... I like the Guardian of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout redo of the ride.
This ride is the reason I love theme park rides. This ride is the reason I’m watching this podcast. I’m a ToT simp since 96 and if they ever threaten to change it, I’m chained up right next to Ryan.
I'd be so sad if it gets taken from DisneyWorld, I absolutely loved it at Disneyland and was heartbroken that it got reskinned. The theme is great and there are so few spooky rides left.
So... I am someone who has had nightmares of fallng to my death since I was very very little. I'm afraid of heights, depths, flying (although I have gotten past this as an adult), tall rides, and things such as bridges, and elevators... My wife had been to WDW as a small kid and all she remembered about the tower of terror was that she liked it. When she took me to WDW for my first time we got on it blind. From the outside it just looked like a sort of haunted house. I asked my then girlfriend how extreme the ride is, but she could't remember and didn't think it was anything crazy. I had ridden some roller coasters and didn;t think this could be anything near as scary. Also with it being an indoors dark ride it seemed fairly harmless. This was my second day at the Disney parks so my guard was way down seeing how friendly most of the rides were. So my demeanor was super relaxed and I was just thinking how cool the ride is as we buckled in (loosely - for crazy rides I like to cinch it way down), went up to the drive thru floor, into the doors on the other side, and then it suddenly zips you up. I just think whoa that was fast. The ride pauses. The windows open dramatically and the narrator hits his tagline. I see all the lights of Hollywood Studios down below. All the alarms imediately go off in my head realizing it just blasted us up a shaft way up high to a dramatic stop and that means we're going to drop. Not only does it drop, but it zips you up and down repeatedly and it feels like the only thing keeping me alive is this loose little lap belt as my butt, legs, feet, and back all come off the seat. I just remember having a death grip on that lap belt. The slow mo ride video shows me turning to my wife in panic and you cn read my lips saying "you lied to me!". 😂We did go back after being married three years later and she somehow got me to ride it again even though I repeatedly said in the years between that I would never ride that again. I was not happy waiting in line for it the second time, and couldn't enjoy the scenery leading up to the big finale. Objectively, it's a neat ride and I enjoy the engineering side of rides as well since I work in that field.
So happy with the World Class test result for this episode! The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror is in my top 3 favourite rides ever, probably the top spot most days. Fantastic episode guys! 😁
I freaked out when the DisneyWorld version started moving forward as I'd only ridden the Disneyland version, and scared the Hell out of my sister as she hadn't ridden either and didn't know why I was freaking out.
I went to tokyo Disneysea last week with friends who hadn’t ridden this ride. While i was over the fear of the drops, listening to my friends shouting and panicking when the ride started is one of the funniest things I had ever experienced. I love this ride so much
So with Tower of Terror having Seatbelts now, It opened with a Lap Bar per Row originally I believe. I would love to pay for a one night event where they just pull you down as fast as they can! Reinstalling the speed that was lost before opening as Mr. Watts' Dad said! That'd be thrilling and fun I think! Thanks for the great episode again FYA! D
What I find interesting is the parallells between the (non-IP based) Tokyo Tower of Terror storyline and the Guardians of the Galaxy version in California Adventure. In both, you have a sinister collector (Hightower/Tivan) who adds a small mischief maker (idol/Rocket) to his collection, which ultimately proves his undoing. The difference is that in Guardians, we are in cahoots with the mischief maker.
my favorite ride!! another "good" that i'm not sure was discussed in the ep is the way that they build anticipation when you're entering the second elevator shaft. that thin column of light combined with that harsh sliding sound and just pushing forward into complete darkness - possibly the eeriest effect in a disney park? gives me goosebumps every time
this is the first ride y'all have covered that I actually vividly remember going on (though I don't remember the queue at all). it's also one of the very few rides that I would still get on, I really shouldn't ride any rollercoaster for health reasons, but I love the feeling of falling so much that I would deal with the after effects willingly. I'm so glad to see it get a 10/10.(also the movie used to be a guilty pleasure of mine, though I haven't seen it in years)
“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is an area which we call .… The Twilight Zone.”
The first time I went on this ride as maybe a 6 or 7 year old? I was so scared I screamed for the entire drop sequence, but not like a fun scream or a regular kids “I’m scared” scream. I screamed a “I am being actually murdered, gruesomely, right now” kind of scream. So we have the on ride photo framed because I am dead center, red faced, mouth open, eyes filled with terror, and almost everyone in the car is turned to look at me thinking like, is someone being stabbed behind me? lmao
@@angelinadavis7924 i honestly didn’t even remember who he was at first when he was on the pod until i saw the video and was like ooohhhh i know that guy lol the way he apologizes every time he interrupts them or cuts someone off is so sweet haha
even with all the new rides i still think tower of terror is the BEST ride at hollywood studios, and also has one of the absolute best queues of any attraction ever. i love the touch of doing this episode in black and white, so perfect
When I was a CM at WDW I got to do a backstage tour of Tower of Terror (the only tour I ever landed a spot for) and can confirm that the secret book IS REAL. My name and hometown are proudly in that book 😌
if i could retheme the tower of the terror, it would be a wandavision theme hear me out. we keep the outside almost entirely the same but it’s now black and white, with some red details. or maybe half the building is modern and half is old. and on the inside, the story of the ride is that the building is under wanda’s hex and its falls are affected by her emotions. the ride would make you descend and ascend through her grief and trauma. and then the end of the ride is a fight between wanda and agatha, who’s been manipulating her grief throughout the ride. all the cast members will act as if they are within wanda’s hex as well
Once I was on ToT in WDW, we went through the dimension and ended up just facing a lit, brick wall for a hot minute before the drop. It felt broken (maybe it was lol) and was EXTREMELY scary tension right before the drop. Just so good.
From Wikipedia: On June 23, 2021, it was reported that Walt Disney Pictures was developing a new film based on the attraction, starring Scarlett Johansson, who would also produce the project through her production company, These Pictures, alongside Jonathan Lia, while Josh Cooley would write the script. Development on the film was initially canceled following Johansson's lawsuit against Disney after the company released the Marvel film Black Widow on the streaming service Disney+, but resumed after the lawsuit was settled.
I’m surprised there was no mention of how creepy and in character the employees are on this ride, they were all giving undead vibes and wouldn’t crack a smile no matter how hard you tried I loved it
WDW News Today did an event a few months back for the 35th anniversary of this ride and they flew in a bunch of MGM imagineers and had some segments about Tower which had a ton of great firsthand info and stories about how this ride came to be.
I rode this w/ only a bar holding us down, next to my Dad, who was a big guy. I went flying up, almost standing & he was holding me in terror while I "wooo'd" alll the way down😅
I just rode Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios for the first time last month. The theming, scenery, and ride experience are all top-tier. It's definitely in my top 5 rides out of all 4 Orlando parks.
Walt Disney knew that kids liked to be scared when they felt safe, such as watching one of his films. That’s why he put the scary scene in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when she’s running through the scary forest
Never got the pleasure of seeing the Tower of Terror in person, but I was obsessed with any type of gravity drop rides, as a child. Plus I love horror & The Twilight Zone. I would love to ride through the Tower someday.
Listening to the part about varying the drop timing at the top and having a voice over that they're having technical difficulties, it made me think of something I've seen at Rock'n'Rollercoaster. I've been in the single rider line a few times, which usually means a 10-15 minute wait once you reach the boarding area, watching trains launching. I distinctly remember walking out of the studio room into the boarding area to a stopped train. There was what sounded like a prerecorded announcement that said something along the lines of "Thank you for your patience, you will be departing... immediately" and as soon as they said immediately, the train took off with the riders screaming. I only saw this happen one time and hope to catch it again. Love the show. I can't remember if you've done a Rock'n'Rollercoaster episode, but if you haven't, I hope this comes up. I hope to catch you guys in the parks sometime.
I think they're going to leave the theme of it alone primarily because Hollywood Studios has a long list of other problems it has to solve before it starts messing around with rides that are still reliable, popular, and beloved. Like, once they finish putting the Monsters Inc land in, I'd guess that the next change would be retheming Rock n' Rollercoaster to something other than Aerosmith. Also, they've already got a Guardians ride in Florida. Only thing I can think of is that if Universal ever moves on from Marvel in Islands of Adventure, something might flip, but most of their current new plans for rides are family animated films, and they're not gonna take a family property and put it into a drop tower.
1:35:45 The idea of a dark ride themed as a haunted elevator without a drop would be super achievable for a lot of parks. If it hasn't been done before I'd love to see that
Now this is how you start a theme park experience breakdown information podcast
Bryon is really trying his best to keep this train running on time
Everyone praising Garrett and Ryan and I’m over here loving sweet, professional Byron
I love how this ep was basically just Garrett and Ryan complimenting each other while Byron talked about Tower of Terror lol
I loved the phone a friend little bit. It makes me wish that Byron’s mom (if comfortable) could be phoned since he often asks her anyways
I cannot believe one of the goods wasn’t THE CAST MEMBERS! I have such incredible interactions with cast members EVERY SINGLE TIME I ride this. Rip
damn
Way to bring the show down!! 🥁 (Elevator humor)
What about like the Empire State Building?
Really? I’m sure there are buildings with elevators much taller than the tower of terror all over the world.

Garrett + Ryan = Herding Cats when it comes to staying on topic AND I'm here for it!! I love both separately, so together is just pure *chefs kiss*
Garrett seems so sweet lol
I love that y’all kept it black and white and perfect Halloween Episode

This has to be my favorite episode so far! Great job!
BEST INTRO SO FAR!
This ride is the reason I love theme park rides. This ride is the reason I’m watching this podcast. I’m a ToT simp since 96 and if they ever threaten to change it, I’m chained up right next to Ryan.
Love a Garrett Watts episode!
YAY! Garrett is one of my favorite guests! Great episode!!
okay the black and white is SO GOOD, fucking love this so much
WOW 👏 👏 👏 The intro >>>>>> 100/10
I'd be so sad if it gets taken from DisneyWorld, I absolutely loved it at Disneyland and was heartbroken that it got reskinned. The theme is great and there are so few spooky rides left.
I love that Ryan loves the "To Serve Man" ep of the Twilight Zone
"wow, how does this incredible technology work?"
"so, like, have you ever hypnotized a chicken?"
giggling and kicking my feet rn this is SUCH a treat for halloween week. love u FYAholes and garrett!!
I don't know what made this day better
Tower of Terror episode or Universal revealing the animatronics for Monsters Unchained
1:26:59 I know they did something like that for a tv spot when the ride first opened with Late Comedian and Actor Gilbert Gottfried
While Garrett isn’t the foremost expert in all things amusement/theme parks, I love that he really brings the ADHD out of everyone.
Byron's rendition of hot to go was in fact horrifying
Amazing intro. You just know it's gonna be world-class when you have an intro like that.

feel like we need a babysitter when garrett is on...
Haunted Mansion Tower... as an extension for the Mansion. That would be awesome.
LOVE THIS OPENING!!
So happy with the World Class test result for this episode! The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror is in my top 3 favourite rides ever, probably the top spot most days.
Fantastic episode guys! 😁

"We're better than this aren't we?"
Yes Garrett we are 🖤
i rode the tower of terror like 11 times in a row the one time i went & i don’t think i’ll ever have that level of euphoria again
You guys are awesome! Love the content. Keep it up. Theme Park sickos!!
always love when Garett is on bc its just pure ramblings and I love it
Happy 50th episode 😀

The back middle seat always had a seat belt. Fun fact: The Japanese ToT uses over the shoulder seat belts like a car.
I love this podcast SOOO MUCH. About to join the fourth wall ❤️so much love from a long time supporter
That intro tho, like who is this diva I’m obsessed
What I find interesting is the parallells between the (non-IP based) Tokyo Tower of Terror storyline and the Guardians of the Galaxy version in California Adventure. In both, you have a sinister collector (Hightower/Tivan) who adds a small mischief maker (idol/Rocket) to his collection, which ultimately proves his undoing. The difference is that in Guardians, we are in cahoots with the mischief maker.
Alright, now we need to get Garrett's dad as an official guest
Whatttttttttt my favorite boyssss ❤❤ GARRETT
I never realized how small the Tiki Room is😅 But hey, it's cozy. Who doesn't love cozy❤
YES and I was having such a rough morning😫you guys make me so happy haha
This is the most enthusiastic guest on the show 🤣👍👻
Garrett’s dad needs to be on the podcast as a guest
How did I just find this channel? Hell yes, I'm in!!
my favorite ride!! another "good" that i'm not sure was discussed in the ep is the way that they build anticipation when you're entering the second elevator shaft. that thin column of light combined with that harsh sliding sound and just pushing forward into complete darkness - possibly the eeriest effect in a disney park? gives me goosebumps every time
this is the first ride y'all have covered that I actually vividly remember going on (though I don't remember the queue at all). it's also one of the very few rides that I would still get on, I really shouldn't ride any rollercoaster for health reasons, but I love the feeling of falling so much that I would deal with the after effects willingly. that intro ateee lol made my day
“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. So we have the on ride photo framed because I am dead center, red faced, mouth open, eyes filled with terror, and almost everyone in the car is turned to look at me thinking like, is someone being stabbed behind me? lmao

I like tower more than guardians because of the dark ride element of it. I like how you travel to a different location
Happy Tuesday!!
There was already a Wonka boat ride and a great glass elevator ride at Alton Towers from ‘06 to ‘15!
Episodes with Garrett are the absolute best. Please make him a regular on the show💯💯💯
That opening almost made me spit my coffee out. Fan-fucking-tastic.
I love Garrett so much 😭 I’m so happy yall make content together
I love the black and white throwback, amazing.
I’m still verrrrry salty that they took it away in California. 😢
I’m surprised there was no mention of how creepy and in character the employees are on this ride, they were all giving undead vibes and wouldn’t crack a smile no matter how hard you tried I loved it

Randomly stumbled upon this thanks to the Garrett feature and I’m so happy! Can’t wait to watch more episodes
Dude said “I speak in hyper bowl” 😂
as a huge james mcavoy fan you guys talking about split made my entire day i was screaming the whole time
never heard about them clapping after each take so i’m not sure if that’s true
