The Cameron-May-Johnson-Truss and Sunak tandem has been devastating for the United Kingdom. On the other hand, to put figures, tourism is 13% of the Spanish GDP, employing 2.6 million people. There are other important sectors in The Spanish economy, agriculture, highly technical, employs 800,000 people and is 3% of the Spanish GDP, the automotive sector employs three million people and is 12% of the GDP, the chemical industry, steel, energy, industrial processing and electronic and mechanical supplies, it is 30% of Spain's GDP, with 4 million employees, and a lake that surprises many foreigners, the Spanish military industry is the 7th in the world and the 4th in Europe, with tank manufacturing , warships, submarines, ammunition, artillery, military supplies and military vehicles. Not everything in Spain is Benidorm. :-)

I totally agree with you,it’s a great experience to go Europe and work in a hotel or factory, where ever opens your eyes and you mature at a young age, I did the same 50 years ago and ended up living in Colombia South America, they have taken that away from the youth of today, so wrong such a shame. I despise the government of the uk

😮 Typical UK gov … not thinking about our young people and only thinking about their Political Ambitions. My view is once this Conservative Government has gone the EU should re-engage on this topic. It would be good to get back to the freedom of movement we all enjoyed we used to enjoy. My hope is we get back into the EU again one day as one Europe 😊

Could it be that the bigger prize is to amend the 90/180 arbitrary rule itself? So the refusal is not about penalising young people but not allowing tinkering around the edges but trying to gain leverage to amend the whole thing. Staffing shortages mean businesses pressing for this. Maybe critical mass might work! Whole thing a shambles! I am still waiting for anyone to explain the rationale behind the 90/180 day rule??? Deafening silence is because there ain't one me thinks?

Meant to add that the underlying problem is the kind of bar type temp jobs young people might want for the summer etc would not qualify for a work visa as it stands at the moment? What might work is a temp work licence type thing? The UK has introduced these short term quota visas for workers in the agricultural sector. Maybe similar scheme might work for the hospitality sector? This is because you cant come as a tourist and then work - well legally that is!

Remainer here - although I’m very sad about Brexit, maybe the EU should mirror the 6 months allowance the UK gives to EU citizens as standard. This would allow older people to spend more money in EU countries over the sunnier winter periods and maybe help out the youngsters working over the summer.

Depends which country. Spain for example, the only workers I know of that had contracts of any kind were holiday reps who were employed through the UK. That’s not possible now and UK holiday companies have to recruit within the EU, people who already have residency and the right to work in whichever country they are recruiting in. Just one example.

It's all too easy to blame Brexit for everything.
Pre Brexit we both worked in France and Canada.
In France we were only allowed to work 800 hours a seasonal workers and in Canda we had to jump through hoops to work as temporary foreign workers, with a strict timeline to leave and many rules to follow.
There have always been rules about working in different countries, very often ignored pre Brexit and it seems the remainers have forgotten about those rules, or chose to just blame Brexit.
Those remainers who want freedom to travel and work around Europe also don't want foreigners taking jobs in the UK.
      Just my two pennysworth.

It would cost about 12,000,00 pounds per annum for my daughter to study in England!
It was free when I was a kid !
As newby’s you don’t understand what happened to CAM bank and how the EU forced the Spanish government to convert private debt into public debt, this was to save the big French and German banks from going bust and bringing down the Euro!
The same threat to turn off the ATM’s was made to the Spanish government as it was previously done to the Irish government!!!
There are no properties in Spain that have been for sale for a decade or more is there ..? Yes there is!
Lots of bank repossessions going to hit the market because people can’t afford their payments and add to a massive amount of ex Airbnb properties coming onto the market because of the government changes on short term keys should be a “Shark fest” for those that can ….!
