Hey mate. Firstly thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. It shows like hell and I’m grateful there are ppl like you giving attention to these niche items. Also I hope I’m not out of line here but I wanted to comment that your English has improved so much and I commend you for putting effort in that aspect ( not that your English was ever bad, just a small detail I noticed and wanted to comment on, In case it’s something you’ve been working on so that you know it doesn’t go unnoticed). Cheers mate
Love the video. However, it was difficult for me to follow it sometimes because the product names are identical except for one letter. It would be nice if you called them “color version” vs “black and white”. This way it automatically draws a picture on my head.
I enjoy and value your reviews on all things connected to e-reading devices. Most are products that I won't purchase, but I like learning about how this technology works. And I would like to compliment you on the progress of your English enunciation. You have come a long way and it reflects much study and practice on your part. I see a wider audience and much success in your future. 🙂
The battery life is the clincher: 50 hrs vs 8hrs. Even my Samsung tablet has better battery life than Note Air 3 C. That's really bad for an eReader. Great summary and good coverage of practical points that matter to users, thank you!
Dude. Thanks for the QUICK answer part. Noone does it and you have to watch the whole clip if you want to lear something specific. I liked and subscribed. Great reviewing.
thank you for getting straight to the point! most reviews or comparisons these days dont alwasy give an overall answer so it really saves me time. if you're interested at all im thinking of getting the note air 3 for schoolwork
Depends on what you need. If you don't need the frontlight and mainly need notetaking, than I'd recommend waiting. The A6X2 is already pretty great and I suspect the A5X2 won't be any different. And if it unexpectedly isn't good, you can still get one of the Boox tablets.
Excellent and very detailed review! I will add that, spending time looking at both, it seems that color model has more issues (e.g. dead pixels) than B/W model. That also played in my decision to go with the Air 3
Dude, I am in Brazil and this things here are crazy expensive, I've been saving up for the color version, however on the first 3 minutes of your video I've changed my mind, you should give classes on how to make proper review vídeos, you're great.
Yes, that's the most likely explanation at this point. However, if that's the case, I wonder why E-Ink keeps talking about Carta technology if they are actually using Mobius-displays as the base for Kaleido. But it wouldn't be the first time that the E Ink Holdings isn't consistent with the naming of its displays.
I carry an iPad, a laptop, a smaller android tablet, all the chargers, cords, external battery pack and my paper planner in a backpack. Now that I carry a Boox and paper planner, so the weight differences do not matter in the least. At least to me. Thanks for the video.
I think E-Ink still has a long way to go but it is getting better for sure. I think 2 things really need to be improved and thats color, and refresh rate. Maybe battery after all of that but I dont think battery will be much of a problem. I personally hope that we discover some breakthru that makes E-Ink better then traditional displays and that everything shifts to it lol.. but thats thinking big
Has anyone done a tear down of these devices? I've never seen it. Maybe the battery specs are also not as advertised and one is heavier due to the battery differences.
Very nice Review, thanx for that! Im thinking about, to buy an e-Reader / Tablet for reading Mangas mainly and for PDFs for university. I would like to know, if it's possible to turn the Air 3 C into a "Black and White" mode, or does the PPI change, depending on the area, if there is colour, or not?
Thanks :) Switching to grayscale is only possible through a workaround with the developer settings, but that's just done via software and the RGB-filter on top of the E-Ink screen is still darkening the display. So not really all that useful. The resolution just depends on the content. Black and greyscale are always rendered in 300 ppi and colors are rendered in 150 ppi because the resolution of the RGB-filter is lower. So on the same page you can have 300 ppi black text and a 150 ppi colored text/image.
Leaving aside battery life, is the Note Air 3 still a better choice? Since I mainly read in the dark, I'm concerned that the extra screen brightness might be a problem.
Is the lower resolution of the Note Air 3 noticeable when reading normal text or manga? I was really considering the GO 10.3 but trading the backlight for the higher resolution seems like a deal breaker.
I'd say mostly it's not noticeable. If you put 227 ppi and 300 ppi screens side by side you obviously notice the difference, but on it's own 227 ppi on the Note Air 3 are good enough for pretty much all applications imho. 300 ppi are obviously better, but I wouldn't trade the frontlight for it. If you can wait, I suspect Boox will release a 300 ppi tablet with a frontlight (Note Air 3 Plus maybe?) at the end of the year. But that's just speculation on my part.
@@ChalidRaqami thanks for the info. I tried to get the Note Air 3 but it seems to be out of stock in Canada. I found a site that has a good return policy so I'll try the Go 10.3 and send it back if the front light is an issue. I'm mostly going to be using it for reading manga so i expect it will be fine.
Google Play integration is exactly the same on both. You can log in and start downloading and installing apps. Pretty straight forward. The web browsing and app performance are a bit harder to judge. In terms of raw performance, both tablets are identical (same chip, same geekbench 6 score within the margin of error). But the Note Air 3C still has the upper hand because of the Boox Super Refresh (BSR) technology, because it's not only faster with the "Ultra fast"-mode, but also feels more responsive to input and has less ghosting compared to the X-mode on the Note Air 3. Especially scrolling actions seem to be quicker to respond with BSR and the fastest display mode. So I'd say the Note Air 3C is better in that regard.
@@ChalidRaqami Appreciated. I spend much of my time writing on my Supernote and the rest researching with my Macbook Air, and I'd like to spend less time on the Mac as I find it exhausting. There's also a bible program I'd like to install and possibly some writing software, thus my interest in the Play Store integration.
Can i take the colored version and disable the colors? Because i dont want light coming off the screen. If there's gonna be light getting off the screen i won't even think about buying it
@@ChalidRaqami May I ask another question. It seems like a lot of people have bad experiences with Boox support and broken screens? How do you see this issue? Are there currently ACTUAL alternatives to the Boox line up? B/W or Color, 10.3+ inches, Android 12+? It seems like it's either a locked eco system or a bad chip+old Android? Danke!
What's the difference with third party note apps. Say I want to use OneNote instead of the native app? Does the graphics card on the 3C improve that compared to the 3 mono? I have the 3C and I've got it going OK with OneNote but I'd consider the 3 mono for the better battery if OneNote performs the same.
In terms of pen latency both are very similar. But on the Note Air 3, the screen refreshes after each stroke, which is not happening with the Note Air 3C. So I'd say it's more comfortable to use on the Note Air 3C.
They are very similar overall, but because of the slightly lower latency and better pressure sensitivity (with tilting detection) I'd say the Boox Note Air 3C is a bit better.
Does it allow to connect Bluetooth? Also, you say 50h battery life turning 15 pages but how does that compare with remarkable 2? I have one which I like and I love the battery life but it would be nice with android and also a front light as using it in bed without any light is a huge plus
Yes, the Boox devices typically all allow to connect mice and keyboards via bluetooth. I'd say battery life on the Remarkable 2 is a bit better at the end of the day, because it doesn't have a frontlight. But writing a lot on the Remarkable or the Note Air 3 (not the 3C) will result in similar run times in my experience. So around 4-5 days of usage when writing 3-4 hours per day. Just keep in mind that these are rough estimates because WiFi signal strength and what else you do on the devices can have a huge impact. Writing less with either one will significantly increase battery life for example (as mentioned in the video).

No, that's unfortuntely not possible with this kind of tech. PocketBook ereaders allow to turn down the color saturation to 0, so everything turns to greyscale. But the RGB-layer is still on top of the screen so it doesn't really look different in terms of crispness. So With E-Ink Kaleido 3 there's no B&W mode that helps with the color filter. It will be possible with E-Ink Gallery devices though.
