I don't know if you have a local library...but there's no need to buy books or movies. Your taxes pay for the library. They have free or discounted tickets to arts, culture and classes. Lots of things for children. You will find your people there to. It's a great way to meet people.
I have recently started, when I get a box in the house, I will fill it with things I’m no longer using and give it to Goodwill or a shelter. With Christmas a few weeks away, I’m getting plenty of boxes and so I have been through my closet and drawers to find things I don’t use but have held onto for some reason. One box in, one box out.
I’ve just completed a successful Low Buy year and it’s uplifting. For some reason, low buy is more successful over time than no buy as I step aside from consumerism. Whichever technique works for you, more power to you and I wish you the best of success.
I have done the same with books. I buy self help and decluttering books but haven’t read the previous ones yet. It’s a bad and expensive habit. I have promised myself to stop buying until I read the ones I have.
Im using the library more and using Spotify and audible . It’s helping with the book purchases. Right now i take a picture of the book cover qnd then later look at the library and audible app.
This is one of my favorite videos on this channel. And yes Instagram can very much about buying a lot of things you don't need! Life is much happier without too many items in your home!
I love this. I am 54 and always learning and adapting. Each season brings changes. I desire to be more minamilist. My husband isn’t but he has gotten so much better about getting rid of stuff.
Thank you Madeline for sharing these minimalist habits. One specific item you mentioned really resonates with me. That is to unfollow people who influence me to make purchases. I have come to realize that I am susceptible to wanting to buy items because someone I admire has them. This susceptibility lies with me and I need to distance myself from the sources of my weakness.
Yes, I’ve slowly started to realise that too, that sometimes I can feel influenced to buy things I later regret. Thank you so much for watching, Cristina 💛
After the crazy shopping I have been doing for the holidays (decor, gifts, gourmet food, baking supplies), a “ No Buy” January sounds like a great way to start off the new year. Thanks for the idea!
I have read Atomic Habits and found it to be helpful. I have also read Swedish Death Cleaning several times. I recently realized my RUclips watching has changed, no more Target, Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, thrift store hauls. Now I am into minimalist themed channels, educational and encouraging. I am 70 now, family and friends my age are moving into small apartments, nursing homes, or passing away. My decluttering is 2-pronged, the first, it is pleasant to live in simple, clean spaces and also, whatever I get rid of is making my adult children’s task easier, down the road when I am forced to live in a smaller space or pass away. My husband has a larger task, he was in construction for decades, now his health is limited so his new “hobby “ is selling (or giving away) tools. A heart wrenching task but a wise one. Thank you for being an encourager.

We gave some of the father in law's tools to a farm equipment repair business. Most were duplicates and oversized wrenches. We have downsized into senior apts. several years ago, sold the house. The yard got to be too much.
That’s so interesting, Carolyn. I’ve found the same, I used to watch lots of those haul videos (and I used to make some too), but I’ve shifted in the past couple years. Thank you for watching. 💛
To reduce, reuse, for the past 10 years I shop and consign at a consignment store. My state has a few locations. I usually find good stuff and depending on the quality I can often use and resell my items. And I almost always find what I need.
I agree with all of the advice here and actually already do most of them. I also like reading, so I had to restrict myself to only buying a new book when I have finished the previous one. It teaches patience, for sure. I'm also strict about what comes into my inbox and stick to newsletters that I actually read. I think the most important habit for me next year would be to be less busy. After a burnout in 2018, I've slowly recovered and was able to take on more stuff, but now I need to be careful not to fall into the same trap again. Thank you for these tips.
I really LOVE your videos. You are my favorite youtuber 🥰 thank you for making these videos for us 🙏 and thanks for sharing your tips, thoughts and ideas 😘 they are appreciated here 😊😊
Brilliant advice and help always. In the no buy months, can you still get food, toiletries and medicines? or do you stock up first? Blessings to you this christmas xxxxxxx
I love that you added lights to the shelves in the living room. Makes the space so cozy.
Thank you, Emily 😊

We do get some books from the library too. I do buy second hand books though when I can’t find them in the library x

Thank you for this. Love your videos ☺️
Thank you so much 💛
Great video
Thank you so much, Natalie 💛
May I please ask what lights did you use for the shelves in the living room?:)
I wish you were minimalist with the background music too.
terribly violent trend, that music everywhere. I am highly sensitive and find it exhausting😢

Absolutely, we still buy all necessities. It’s more about the items that are more a “want” than a “need” 💛
Hello, I’m new here. Like your videos. I was wondering if u are Hungarian? Your last name seems like. I’m Hungarian:)
